Who are these people who are still buying physical copies of mario kart and gtaV? How the hell are they in the top 10? What has happened in these peoples lives that they have now decided to buy these games? And there seems to be quite a few of them. Would be fascinating to see a movie about this
@Vexx234 how did you feel about botw expansion? Id argue botw was a full package and the dlc was pretty derivative, just like an old timey expansion pass. How about new mario kart courses? I think nintendo has done a pretty good job with dlc.
@NinjaNicky this aint new. Gameboy games cost as much as a full pc game. Did i buy a lot of gameboy games? No, i bought pc games. If it aint worth it then dont buy it. Easy peasy
Am i the only one who remembers expansion packs? There was age of empires 2 and then they came out with age of empires 2: age of kings which required the base game. Isn't that exactly the same as dlc? We just have a new word for it.
When i was a kid a bag o candy cost 0.8€, today it costs 1.5€ and the bag is smaller. Games have cost 50€ for as long as i can remember. Do i like it that prices go up? No. Is it innevitable? Yes.
@PushMyGran1986 if a company is listed in the stock market, anyone can decide to buy 50.1% of it and then run it. They don't need permission. It's called a hostile takeover.
It can get really absurd at times. Xerox tried to forcifully buy HP a few years ago even though HP is 4-5tiles bigger than xerox. They just decided to take out a huge loan and pay it back with the money HP had stashed in their reserves.
@Silly_G indeed. I have all my original consoles since NES still intact, i play less than ever and yet the joy cons are the only controllers that have broken in my use
@Whitestrider gg wp. I do agree on one thing. Nintendo isn't the fuzzy company they want people to see them as. I'm not arguing what they are doing is necessarily moraly right. But business wise it is, and thats the only thing they care about.
@Whitestrider Let's try a different approach. Why do you think Nintendo is doing this? There's always bad pr associated cos people like you don't understand how a business works. They need to pay a laywer to write the letter and follow up etc. Doing nothing would be easier and cheaper. The point of a company is to make money. Why would you say they are doing this? What is the motive?
@Whitestrider again, why are you mad? Is this your project? I am the one presenting evidence and your argument is "no, because i am angry and i am using the most caps lock so i am correct". You haven't presented a single argument as to why the things i'm presenting are not relevant.
@Whitestrider why are you so mad? How is a game any different than any other product. An ip is an ip, the law doesn't differentiate between goods or services. These ips are worth millions so why risk losibg it just so you dont hurt someones feelings who should have the 2 brain cells required to know that this would happen. Look at axiom verge. Totally a metroid game but he was smart enough to call it something else.
@Whitestrider it's not about one fan game but where do you draw the line? 1 game? 5? 20? If you allow these things to exist you set a presedence where it is ok. Nintendo games are so popular people keep making fan games and at some point when theres 20different pokemon fan games it becomes more difficult to suddenly tell others they can't do it. The trademark is then considered watered down and you can't get it back at that point.
How are the examples any different? If enough metroid games are made by others then one can argue that it's just a genre of game at this point.
@Whitestrider It's doing fine right now, but 30-40years down the line who knows what the state of dragon ball is if they keep letting people using it for free.
And the examples i gave is actually companies making products for profit using a name that once was a trademark. Its much worse than a "fan" product for no profit and yet it is indeed legal because the trademark was watered down
The thing about trademarks is that a company can not pick and choose when to enforce them. If nintendo let's this exist then they have much harder time to defend their IP in the future. Someone else can make a game and then point at this and ask why is this being allowed if theirs isn't. In years there might soon be dozens of fan projects watering down the IP. After this their trademark is worthless and they can not enforce it anymore.
For many companies, trademarks are important business assets built through goodwill and reputation. However, a failure to enforce a trademark by monitoring the mark for misuses will result in a weakening of the mark and loss of distinctiveness, which can lead to a loss of the trademark.
If you ain't got a switch, i feel like 50€ more for the new one is a no brainer. If your switch is still working, it doesnt feel even remotely smart to buy a new one, unless you can sell your old one for a decent price
Time to move with the times gramps. You only need to look at sonys latest numbers to see why this is. They made 55% of their revenue from digital games and dlc. Physical releases? 5%.
I used to love physical but let's face it, im way too old to go and pick up a cart and put it in the machine. So much more convenient to just press button and play. Digital sales happen all the time. Retail? Barely ever.
Look on the bright side, less games to buy for a full switch library 😘
Animal crossing is like a free to play mobilegame, except when you are tired of waiting, you still have to wait. You cant even pay yourself out of that crap
I remember playing Teslagrad on wii U. I got mad because the bosses made cheap attacks making it a trial and error game. Made a mean comment on their miiverse and they replied to it. I felt so bad... dont be mean on the interwebs kids!
Never understoond why people like Mega man 3. It has some of the most boring weapons with snake man and top man. A lot of the maps blink because there are too many things going on. Not saying its a bad game, just saying it doesnt come close to the 2 best megaman games, 2 and 4
Best multiplayer? How about worst multiplayer? It seems like not a single reviewer has a family because trying to share an island with 4 people is just utter garbage. Everyone gets just a tiny portion of a tiny map and it just ends up being a crappy mishmash of random stuff. Whoever starts the day gets all the fossils. Whoever opens up the game when that art dude is in town gets the only real piece of art. The list goes on and on with how this is designed as a 1person per switch game
Boxes are just sooooooooooooo expensive and most of the time really frail. AND take up more space. If i had infinite money, yes please. But since i dont, i only get boxes etc for games i REALLY like
And naturally im talking old games. Do people even throw away disc boxes?

Poor Wii U was left out of the slide of old products xD

Here's a list of products that where trademarks but got watered down because they became too popular and where not defended. It happens all the time.
