Re: Nintendo Badge Arcade 'Free Plays' Might Be Over For Good

FlaviusFire

@Bret It's a grab-claw gacha kinda thing, win badges and you put them on your home menu and on top of folders and stuff, it integrates directly with the 3DS home menu UI and everything, free-to-play and they used to have weekly updates and new dialogue and it was quite the experience before the 3DS ended production

Re: Video: Some Of Us Prefer Zelda: Majora's Mask Over Ocarina Of Time Because We're Right

FlaviusFire

@kurtasbestos That's how it was for me too, I refused to play MM until I beat OoT. To be honest, Majora's Mask is the sequel, but it doesn't carry over a whole ton from the original game in terms of story. If you really want to try Majora's Mask, maybe just watch a story summary of Ocarina of Time on YouTube first. They're different enough games that they can be enjoyed as separate experiences.

Re: Video: Some Of Us Prefer Zelda: Majora's Mask Over Ocarina Of Time Because We're Right

I played both on my 3DS, they were the second two Zelda games I played after A Link Between Worlds. I played through OoT first and loved it, and then I started playing through MM and man oh man... I don't think I was quite old enough at the time to really process the dark themes that game was dealing with but I certainly picked up on the atmosphere, especially in the final boss.

I replayed OoT in Master Quest mode, although I don't remember if I ever beat it. The shadow temple was the hardest dungeon for me the first time around and in Master Quest I think it got the better of me. I think I started replaying Majora's Mask but never beat it. Watching theory videos on them later and honestly reading a fair amount of fanfiction really brought home to me how me how much I love both, but especially MM. Thematically it's one of the most mature games I've ever played, right up there with DDLC and Celeste. The time mechanic was always fascinating to me, and I remember all the dungeons to this day.

So they're both great games, but trying to compare them isn't the easiest since they're trying to do different things. I believe I personally enjoyed Majora's Mask more. Ocarina of Time is a pleasent memory I don't think much about, but I will catch myself reflecting on the story of Majora's Mask.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think Of The February 2022 Nintendo Direct?

FlaviusFire

I loved it. No interest in the RPGs, was disturbed by but enjoyed the new Kirby footage. The surprises for me were Portal 1/2, No Man's Sky, Mario Strikers, and MK8D DLC. I've already played both Portal games to bits on Steam and if I get No Man's Sky it'll be on Steam too, but it was cool to see them both running on the Switch (No Man's Sky looked to be performing impressively). Mario Strikers made my jaw drop, more on my friend's behalf than mine but looking into it I may very well get it if I can find people to play with. MK8D DLC was the biggest thing for me, was not expecting it at ALL and I've already preordered. MK is one of my favorite games.

Mentioned it already, but I'm sUper excited for the next Kirby game. I love the series so much, and already loving 3D platforms it's almost certainly a day 1 purchase for me, as long as reviews show that they've done a good job matching the Kirby mechanics to 3D space. I don't have any serious concerns though.

Oh, the Switch Sports surprised me too. I doubt I'll get it but it's really cool to see them finally making it.

Re: Minecraft's Caves And Cliffs Update Gets Split Into Two Parts

FlaviusFire

@VoidofLight @darkswabber - The devs have described the Warden as an environmental hazard more than anything, it's incredibly powerful (is able to kill you in two hits with full Netherite armor) so it can come across as a boss, but they've said that they're not even sure yet if they'll have it drop anything when killed, as they mean for players to try to avoid it rather than try to attack it at all. I hope that clarifies. 😁

Re: Minecraft's Caves And Cliffs Update Gets Split Into Two Parts

FlaviusFire

@SNEED - Minecraft just doesn't run incredibly well on the Switch, never has. Bedrock Edition runs a lot better on Windows or even a phone, and the system certainly doesn't need to be restarted to exit the game.

Some of the basic game differences between Java and Bedrock is the coding language, as you already mentioned, as a result Bedrock runs better on low-spec systems. Bedrock Edition has much more officially supported modding, which makes up for its lower capabilities within the command block engine. It also supports ray-tracing, which if you have the GPU for it is genuinely a sight to behold, with the right RTX textures.

So in a way, a lot of the fundamental game differences do come down to the coding language, Java is more customizable so there's more mods, well Bedrock is a bit more grounded, which is why the mod support is much more official, cuz it would be a lot harder to do unofficially. It's also grounded in the sense that it'll be easier to be built upon, in fact it probably will be the version of the game supported long into the future.

So yeah, in the end it just comes down to personal preference. I've messed with both a great deal and end up preferring Bedrock Edition (mostly due to built-in ray-tracing and a more straightforward command system) but it's really a matter of personal preference. If you've never tried Bedrock Edition I'd give it a try, especially if you've got an RTX card or a really high-end AMD card. I hope that clarifies. 😁

Re: Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury Was The Best-Selling Game Of February (US)

FlaviusFire

AND IT DESERVES IT! I was one of those purchases and it's the best $60 I've spent in a while. I love Mario games, loved 3D Land, and this has lived up to my expectations 100%. Haven't touched Bowser's Fury yet (am trying to 100% 3D World first, am pretty close, in Star World with all levels golden flag, 3 stars, and stamp on every previous level, still have to play through the others with characters other than Mario though) but I'm looking forward to getting to it!

Re: What Exactly Is Going On With GameStop's Stock Prices?

FlaviusFire

I'm not gonna pretend to understand all the economic arguments above, but I will say this. If people were perfect then any form of government or economy would work, but unfortunately people are very much NOT perfect. As such, I prefer whatever works longer, and capitalism, despite all its evils, seems to make people happier for the time being. I personally can't fully agree with either the left or right side of things politically, so. Perhaps ignore me XD

Re: Nintendo Shares New Info About Bowser's Fury Mode In Super Mario 3D World

FlaviusFire

First of all, this looks awesome.

Secondly, those of you who keep judging this on terms of '$60 to double dip', no, you seem to forget that most people haven't played this game before and for them it's definitely not double dipping. If you already have the Wii U version there's no need for you to buy this, I wouldn't. Nintendo's goal here is not for everyone to re-buy their game, it's to make profit from everyone who never got to play it. For the vast majority of people, this is in fact a NEW game.

Re: Bowser's Fury Details Revealed: "Free-Roam" Gameplay, amiibo Unlocks, Co-Op And More Explained

FlaviusFire

I don't recall them saying it was short in the video, but I probably missed it. I am curious however why people are so mad about that, this isn't a new Mario game, it's an addon to make it a little more interesting and more than a port. Don't get your hopes up so much XD

I plan to get this on day one (as I've commented in multiple articles), I played bits and pieces of the original at the houses of friends who had a Wii U. 3D Land is one of the three Mario games I've 100%ed and I imagine I'll probably 100% this one as well, I'm gonna have so much fun with this. ^_^

Re: Feature: Remembering Super Mario 3D Land, 3D World’s Oft-Forgotten Predecessor

FlaviusFire

One of my favorite games, the first game I ever 100%ed. It's why I'm so excited for the Switch port of 3D World. After playing Odyssey though and revisiting this game the movement felt incredibly limiting, so if they ever port it they need to smooth all of that out, similar to the rumors that the 3D World port is getting more Odyssey-style movement. It's a fantastic game though, 3D Mario is life XD

Also, someone above mentioned the final boss sequence of this game, and holy darn... It's probably my favorite ending sequence of any game I've played, definitely my top 'final boss fight'.

Re: Kirby Developer HAL Laboratory Teases New Projects For 2021

FlaviusFire

To all those wishing Sakurai would return to Kirby, his comments about Marx during the Sephiroth presentation did not by any means go unnoticed to me. For those of you who missed it, he mentioned that he wanted to make that fight even freakier but was ultimately limited by Nintendo's age restrictions 🤣

My point being, I'd love to see it.

Re: Zelda Fan Recreates Breath Of The Wild Map In Minecraft

FlaviusFire

No one else is noting it, so I'ma bring it up. Theoretically speaking it could run on the Switch, but there's no way to put it ON the Switch. Unless, perhaps, you have a realm, upload the world to that, and redownload it on the Switch, but that's a rather expensive workaround for just importing a Minecraft world.

So, for all intents and purposes, no, you cannot actually play this map on the Switch.
