Re: Konami Just Revealed The PC Engine / TurboGrafx-16 Mini

EvilRegal

I'm with the "no Rondo, no buy" crowd. I want to add it to my "Minis" collection, but that would be an unforgivable omission. Why wouldn't they announce it for the western version at the same time as the Japanese version, though? Does that deconfirm it, and the other Japanese games?

@Ferkner On a side note, love the GamePro dude 5.0 review face! Man, I miss GamePro...

Re: Contra Anniversary Collection Is Available On The Switch eShop Right Now

EvilRegal

@MasterLEON Thankfully, the xenomor... um, random alien still has its lines. As for our heroes, there isn't even captioning to tell us what they're saying! This is one of the weirdest omissions from a retro game that I can remember, and I'm a retro junkie as someone who started gaming in the early 80s. Not a game changer, but just very disappointing to a purist like myself. It's not likely I'll stick around to watch attract mode, unless it were to be patched back in, lol.

Only thing I can think of is it being some royalties issue on voice recordings. Any other thoughts on why?

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (May 18th)

EvilRegal

Playing Castlevania, Castlevania, and (yes) Castlevania! I've waited some 25 years to play Bloodlines. As an SNES kid, that was one thing I missed out on being on Team Nintendo during the Console Wars. Oh, and spending some time getting that Game Boy Tetris theme in Tetris 99!

Then, watching the Mad Queen go DOWN tomorrow!!!

Re: Vote For Your Favourite Game Boy Games!

EvilRegal

Any love for Raging Fighter? I thought it was a pretty good, deep fighting game; especially with the Game Boy's limitations! Man, I wish we'd gotten a Super Nintendo version. If Konami had tried harder, it could've been their answer to Street Fighter II.

Re: New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe Japanese Sales Prove Plumber Port Profitability

EvilRegal

Here's my problem with the Wii U ports, as someone who bought the Wii U, and buys every new generation of Nintendo console or handheld: Those of us who did support Nintendo during the Wii U days may pay for the console's lack of success, by not seeing proper sequels to some games until the Switch's successor.

A lot of Nintendo's franchises see one entry per generation, like Mario Kart. We should be looking forward to Mario Kart 9 and New Super Mario Bros. Switch. However, since Nintendo didn't get the sales for Mario Kart 8 and NSMBU that it may've wanted due to Wii U's failures, now it's trying to get those sales from the Switch generation. And it's getting them. MK8 Deluxe and NSMBU Deluxe (for example) are selling like proverbial hotcakes. While it's getting great numbers from enhanced Wii U ports, what reason does it have to possibly cannibalize sales by putting out proper sequels anytime soon? So, it kind of feels like those who skipped Wii U are being allowed the chance to catch up, while those of us who remained loyal to Nintendo might be punished for Wii U's lack of success, by missing out on proper sequels for this generation.

Since MK8 Deluxe came out so early in the Switch's life, I guess there's a chance of seeing MK9 this generation. However, I don't see a proper 2D Mario followup coming until next generation, with NSMBU Deluxe & Super Mario Maker 2 out here in the Switch's 3rd year. The next 3D Zelda... I don't know if we'll see a proper 3D Zelda until Switch's successor, or not (I consider BotW a Wii U game), with the development time they take. I am relieved to see 2D Zelda live on, with the Link's Awakening remake. That was a concern of mine, with Nintendo integrating console & handheld with the Switch.

I know Nintendo doesn't "owe" anybody anything for loyalty, but it would be nice to get to see proper sequels for our beloved franchises each generation, regardless of how a generation's system performs. Good for those who are getting the chance to play these gems for the first time, but I do feel a little abandoned, as a loyal Nintendo supporter.

Re: YouTube Has Officially Arrived On Nintendo Switch

EvilRegal

You thought Smash had a gazillion fake leaks? Welcome to the world of people watching, for example, a Red Dead Redemption 2 Lets Play video, and trying to pass off screenshots online as it being a RDR2 port playing on Switch!

All Switch leaks now need to be held to a higher standard, or BS. :3

Re: Hamster Adding Even More Games To The Arcade Archives On Switch

EvilRegal

I was so happy to see DK Jr. on the article thumbnail. DK Jr. was the VERY FIRST arcade game I played, at a Colorado Springs arcade called Nickels & Dimes, in 1984, back when I was 7 years old! So, it'll be special to me, owning the arcade version. The NES version was also the first NES game I played!

The only thing to me that really fees missing from Switch, preventing it from being the ULTIMATE retro system is the absence of the Konami games. Dammit, Pachinkonami, why do you always have to be the odd-man-out these days? You break my heart... If Hamster ever brings out the Konami library from PS4 Arcade Archives, then the Switch will be THE system for retro gamers like myself, IMHO!

Re: Final Fantasy VII Is Finally Coming To A Nintendo Console

EvilRegal

The Final Fantasy fan of 28 years in me is shedding manly Nintendo tears! I can't believe it... FF VII on a Nintendo console!

I guess I don't have to look at Cloud on Smash Bros. character select screens like a yellow-haired stepchild anymore... I'll still beat him up like one, tho.

Also... I guess this deconfirms Terra, or any other FF rep for Smash. They surely would've been announced on Final Fantasy Direct!

Re: Video: Lots of Characters Just Won't Make It Into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

EvilRegal

I have so many NES-era wants that I know won't get in. Some would have great echoes too. Bill & Lance, Billy (Bimmy) & Jimmy Lee, Bionic Commando (Rad would be interesting with the whole no-jumping thing), Wart, Birdo, Mr. Sandman/King Hippo/Bald Bull, Starman (Pro Wrestling).... I could go on and on, being an NES guy who loves his nostalgia glasses!

I even got to wondering about Rygar, with the arcade version coming tomorrow. #Rygar

Re: Square Enix Announces Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition HD For Nintendo Switch

EvilRegal

"Reclaim your throne, Nintendo!"

I know there are people unhappy about this, and I'd have loved the full FF XV experience on Switch, but it's a start... A fresh start for numbered Final Fantasy on a Nintendo console (console/handheld, but whatever ) after over 22 long years.

I still remember wasting time at a convenience store, flipping through the May 1996 issue of GamePro Magazine (RIP), and reading about Square jumping ship with Final Fantasy to PlayStation. This after I'd read about that Final Fantasy VI tech demo for the Nintendo 64, and was so looking forward to what the series would have to offer on the new console. I was a Nintendo-only gamer at the time, so it was personally devastating!

Even if it's "Pocket Edition", it's also FINAL FANTASY with roman friggin numerals, on a Nintendo console... and it's been a long damn time! The teenage Nintendo fanboy in me is excited as can be!

Re: SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy - A Sexy Street Fighter That's Perfect For Beginners

EvilRegal

I'm on the fence about this. I may get it to compete an SNK year, because I'm getting 40th Anniversary Collection. And, I'm a red-blooded male that likes hot gaming ladies. Not sorry, Reese's! May be cheaper for me in the long run than buying up costumes for the Street Fighter V ladies!

It may make this a must-buy to have female versions of Ikari Warriors' Paul & Vince... Paula & Vincenza, if you will... as DLC. :3 Marian from Double Dragon would be great as a "guest character" too!

Re: Has Nintendo Accidentally Revealed The Entire Cast Of Super Mario Party?

EvilRegal

Poor Wart... As a big SMB2/Doki fan, I'll look to see if he's included in the roster of games like this. Alas, after over 30 years, he's still stuck at SMB2, and a Link's Awakening cameo. I wonder what the problem is, when other characters, like Birdo have crossed over? Too similar to Bowser & King K. Rool? Maybe one of these decades, Nintendo will dig him up for something.
