Update: Nintendo has confirmed in its E3 2019 Direct that the date leaked by the Amazon Japan listing is indeed correct - the game is coming on 20th September!
Original story:
Potential release date spoilers ahead! While we can't verify the date below, you might want to look click away if you wish to keep today's Nintendo Direct entirely spoiler-free. You have been warned!...
Retailers, eh? Can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em - well, at least not until the inevitable all-digital future. For the moment Nintendo and every other video game company has to maintain good relationships with retailers, keeping them sweet and providing them with advance info on upcoming games. Gotta get those product pages up during the Directs!
According to Japanese Nintendo, it seems that Amazon Japan may have jumped the gun this time, publishing a now-deleted listing for The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening on Switch with a previously unknown release date. Again, this date is not confirmed, so take it with a pinch or two of salt. If you don't want to see the date below (but still clicked the article link and ignored the warning at the start!?), this is your last chance to click away. If you can't wait, scroll down past Wario for the potential date...
The date on the listing was 20th September 2019. Consulting our calendars, that's a Friday. Again, this is from a now-deleted Amazon Japan listing, so don't take it as gospel just yet. If it does turn out to be true, though, that's earlier than you might have been expecting, although Nintendo could be keen to get the game out as soon as possible - with all the other games on Switch, not to mention the huge releases on other consoles, no one wants to clog the holiday season with too many must-have games.
Do you think this date is plausible? Will you be picking up this remake? Let us know below.

Sounds good, seems like a perfect date for it!
Yay! That’s my daughter’s birthday. Now I know what she’ll be getting. 🤣
Let me take a wild guess: something around $60?
Totally plausible, it's basically what I expected.
Lots of September kids eh? Well, Christmas is a romantic time..
September is as good a time as any to be releasing a remake/remaster. The quieter the period the better.
Why is this a spoiler? It's not like being told Bruce Willis was dead all along, is it?
@Lordplops Isn't he?
@Lordplops He was alive throughout all of Die Hard!
Nice! Two weeks after my birthday, and as I like to stretch my birthday out for a good month this would still count as a Happy Birthday to me 🤣
@DanteSolablood got to keep warm in the winter! me my wife and our kid all born in mid-late September!
Ooo thats soon! Can't wait!
I expected it to be available straight after Nintendo Direct tonight as a download-only title.
There's absolutely no way they can justify this as a full retail release after BotW set the standard, surely?
Whoopie-ding
@Subtle24 They can, and they will.
@Subtle24 is this sarcasm? People have been begging for this this of Zelda. Do you really think it will be download only or budget priced?
I believe that Luigi's Mansion will be the first big game that will release. So that means LM3 will be sooner than 20 sept??? I can't imagine....
I was thinking about a september release for this game, so if it is, I'm very pleased!
@DanteSolablood Xmas is a romantic time.
Theres also a lot of alcohol consumed...
Welp. Guessing they're not changing the artistic direction for it then.
Was nice knowing ya, Zelda remake.
Nice for people who don't mind the art style, or just love all zelda games no matter what I guess.
I would like it noted that I called that date! Now just gimme an October date for Luigi's Mansion and December for Animal Crossing and I'm 5 for 5 this year...
Seems like a good time. So you put this one in September, Luigi in October, Pokémon in November, and Animal Crossing in December. Btw if any Nintendo execs are reading this, I have more great ideas. You call me any time you need advice, for a price of course. Obvious deductions like this don’t come cheap.
@Blizzia Not only do I not mind the art style, I think it's absolutely thematically brilliant given the context of the game. But yeah don't let the door hit you on the way out
September was a date a few people were throwing on the message boards lately. It totally makes sense. June-August have a bunch of games already but the fall isn't flushed out yet.
Sept. - Link's Awakening Remake
Oct. - Luigi's Mansion 3
Nov. - Pokemon Sword and Shield (confirmed)
Dec. - Animal Crossing
SWEET! That's only a few days before my birthday! I know what I'll be asking for.... (or gifting to myself if that doesn't pan out; I know there will be a couple of 3DS games already. XD)
@Nintendofan83 Great minds must think alike.
@Subtle24 Nostalgia bro ...They may make it $49.99 like some games have been. Actually, the Switch has a wide range of prices from $29.99 - $59.99. Hopefully this one is a bit cheaper but people are still gonna buy it in droves. Will likely sell 1-2 million copies.
@NotTelevision haha yup.....September Direct will likely be for "what's a head".
I think you could see Final Fantasy VIII and Crystal Chronicles in the fall, too.
I played the original so many times and the DX version a couple times. I probably won't get it if the retail price is over £30
Could be a pre order for sometime in the next six months.
That's about a week from my birthday! I am only a few years older than the original...
I hope it's true. The sooner the better.
@TeslaChippie Dw, I never entered.
You're entitled to your opinion, like I am entitled to mine. I think the art style sucks incredibly much. Unfortunately, that ruins the game for me.
It's a game I'm wanting to play, but I am not at all digging the idea of it being a 60 or even 50 dollar release.
It’s that rumored Link to the Past remake that I’m curious about... Can’t wait for Link’s REawakening, though!
September honestly felt like the most obvious month to release. I knew it was a few months off but there's no way it would compete with Pokemon. Also, for some reason, I feel like Nintendo likes to release remakes/remasters in September, a month that is usually extremely slow for releases.
at least they are not lazy and putting yet another game in march/april.
september 20th is 2 days after my friends birthdays so that is cool.
@Blizzia Why would they ‘change’ it... it’s not like this is ‘Sonic Movie’ =P Looks great to me.
If true then Animal Crossing's probably a 2020 game.
Don’t know exact date but September is month given to me when preordered at local store, two months ago.
Wait, people now consider release dates spoilers? Oh brother.
@FTL They would change "it" because it doesn't look like a Zelda game at all artistically.
I guess you could compare it to the Sonic movie actually. Nice of you to freely hand me a valid argument there.
@NintendoByNature I think our bday month is making out like a bandit this E3. XD
Wow was not expecting this. Still wonder what the December game will be if not zelda?

It's up on Amazon US. 60 big ones
Day 1 buy for me.
@Tyranexx dude I knowwwww!! There's so much coming this September. I'm beyond stoked
One day before my birthday! That's the best present
Here's a pic of the new Link amiibo releasing as well.

As a massive zelda fan and I love the original links awakening something about the art style doesn't do it for me. Don't get me wrong I will still pick up the game and I do hope the art style warms to me quickly.
Looks amazing. Lovely music too. A pity though that the only new content seems to be the collectable dungeon rooms.
Is this just a straight remake with updated graphics? If so, and it's regular full retail price, I'll be passing. I'm not crazy about the art style. As far as playability, the gbc version is perfectly fine for me.
In addition to the amiibo, there will also be a Dreamer Edition of the game that includes an art book.

@NintendoByNature Either we or our relatives will go bankrupt! XD
Sept 19 - Genesis/Mega Drive Mini
Sept 20 - Link's Awakening
That's pretty good.
@PuzzleMaster7 I might get this Dreamer edition
I'm so excited for this!I love Zelda but I have to say I really couldn't get into Breath Of The Wild...I'd prefer it if all Zeldas were in this style.
I like what they've done with the music, sounds incredible.
Too many games coming in the fall. I wish this was out over the summer. This comes out, then a week later the new Dragon Quest comes to Switch. Makes it feel rushed.
@Blizzia If comparing bad design of a character to just an art style that you think doesn’t fit the setting, it would be two different things... so not really a valid argument. One would be unappealing regardless of where it was, the other just different to what you’d seen before.
Link's Awakening is one of my absolute favorite games ever, so I am thrilled to play this in an HD remake! Gosh, I played through it so many times as a kid, I could still probably speed run the game from memory (unless they've added new story content).
@FTL Actually, it still remains a valid argument. Both destroy the setting. That's the whole point.
They're both unappealing.
Includes the windwakerHD remake?
The day before my birthday 😊 will make a nice present for myself. Also, this came out the year I was born! I feel a spiritual connection with this game lol. One of my favorite Zelda titles of all time!
I love this game but $59.99 is a steep price for a remade Gameboy game that is only adding a level builder.
At $39.99, I would have not hesitated, but there doesn’t seem to be enough at that price.
@Darknyht 100% agree with you! Let the people down vote as much as they want, $59.99 is too much for this game.
This is the next game I'll buy, and the last one was Yoshi. I'm ready to buy games but where are they?! 2019 is 2018 all over again and both will surely go down as a missed opportunity for Nintendo, even if Machina and Astral both do well (which I really don't think they will).
@Ryan_Again my little pony?
@BensonUii The U.S. eshop has it for preorder at $59.99! Way too high for a remake, imo.
@PuzzleMaster7 I don't even collect amiibo, but this is just too cute!
@vitelus Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and I promise you I didn't lose any sleep over the internet disagreeing with me. There is no sound logic to the US pricing of the game other than greed.
It is the same logic that will keep me from purchasing the Secret of Mana.collection. The established pricing for SNES games for years is $8 and GameBoy was $4, but they expect $40 for $20 worth of virtual console titles.
