Re: Poll: Would You Buy Grand Theft Auto V On Wii U?

EvilRegal

I'm undecided on GTA V, and there other things that are higher on my wish list. However, I'd like the OPTION of getting it. And other 3rd party games. The arrival of PlayStation 4 will ironically also mark the 4th generation that I've had to buy a second console to have all the games and franchises I play available to me.

It would be wonderful for a generation to come along where I'd only have to buy one console. But, I guess if that happened, it would mean Nintendo left the hardware business, and became a 3rd party themselves. So, I better be happy buying the current Nintendo and PlayStation console (I'm not an Xbox fan).

However, I wish Nintendo would solve whatever problems that makes 3rd parties seemingly hate them. Be cheaper and less space-consuming for me.

Re: Over 61% of Q2 Game Sales in the U.S. Were From Download Products

EvilRegal

@XCWarrior
I was actually going to continue with President Whitmore's immortal speech, but did not in the end, to avoid sounding silly on a serious topic. 😝

I've been thinking more and more lately about even buying used copies of old games from the past I've missed. It takes forever to see new offerings on VC, and more and more I don't want to aid the takeover of digital. But, I have a thing about owning things brand new, and I'd not be supporting Nintendo at a time when it's struggling. So, I'm kind of torn. :/

Re: Over 61% of Q2 Game Sales in the U.S. Were From Download Products

EvilRegal

@XCWarrior
That's exactly how I feel. I remember the days of glorious gold Zelda cartridges, instruction booklets with beautiful artwork, and helpful maps.

Now, not only are those bonuses a thing of the past (we get water-thin instructions that barely instruct), we're quickly headed toward a digital-only gaming world. I know this is what companies want, to avoid all the costs of production, but as a gamer who only buys physical if he has an option, I won't go quietly into the night! I don't care if Nintendo releases The Wind Waker 2 MONTHS early! I'm not going to be pushed to digital, with nothing tangible to show for my dollars, that are so hard to come by.

And isn't it lovely how we live in a world increasingly about getting less and less for more and more, whether its groceries or video games? Yeah, you're paying the same price, and have nothing you can put your hands on. 😑

Re: New Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy Release Hinted at in Trademark

EvilRegal

That's great, for those interested. However, it would be nice, when the 3DS has been out for over 2 years, to see a traditional Final Fantasy.

I'm not sure about anybody else, but I've waited since FF IV DS to see V & VI remade! For some reason, I thought we'd see them on 3DS. With Square's iOS obsession, I guess I shouldn't hold my breath. I was at least hoping for a FF: Dimensions 3DS port.

Anybody else hope we see a regular Final Fantasy entry on 3DS and/or Wii U (guess the latter is highly unlikely)?

Re: Nintendo Download: 22nd August (North America)

EvilRegal

I wish we'd see something not previously released in some form a half-dozen times. I know Dreamcast isn't on the Wii U VC roster (heck, right now only NES & SNES are), but if an old Street Fighter title is going to be released, how about something that's only seen the light of day once: Street Fighter III: Double Impact (New Generation & 2nd Impact). In the absence of many releases and much excitement, it might generate more interest in Wii U to see more than the same old titles.

Look at all the excitement EarthBound generated! Wii U needs more of that, but releasing the same old same old all the time isn't going to do it. There must be 5 or 6 versions of SF II already in Wii VC.

Nintendo even could've made a killing if it motivated Capcom to put an arcade-perfect SF II version on Wii U e-Shop. And, think how mind-blowing it'd be for a Nintendo fan to play the original Street Fighter Alpha arcade game, after that whole series being on PSOne! Instead, it's the same SF IIs, and we still don't even have Dungeons & Dragons yet. 😑

Nothing is going to change for Wii U if Nintendo refuses to do any more than the status quo, and I consider these re-releases of games already on Wii VC (and 3DS VC) to be status quo.

Re: Review: Turok: Dinosaur Hunter (Nintendo 64)

EvilRegal

This seems to be one of those "love it, or hate it" games. Personally, going by my memories of it (I own it, but haven't played in over a decade), it was an excellent game, filled with creativity, and its own personality.

This is one of the creepiest, most nerve-wrecking games I've ever played. I remember how scary it was venturing into a new area. Huge enemies would burst through the wall right in front of you. Not knowing what was next made it quite suspenseful. The atmosphere was enhanced by the fittingly spooky soundtrack!

The heavy fog was even criticized back then, but I thought it fit well, for the sake of "the unknown." For March 1997, just 6 months after the N64's debut, the graphics looked great! There was nothing like the appearance of a dinosaur appearing to take a bite out of you, up close and personal!

The platform jumping, however, was a major flaw. One only made more infuriating with the death animation of Turok falling into oblivion. Plus, environments could become repetitive.

It doesn't hold up in comparison to one of the greatest games ever, in Goldeneye 007, but it's quite good on its own merits. I personally give it 7/10

Re: Nintendo Wanted To Take A Different Approach To DLC With New Super Luigi U

EvilRegal

@undead_terror
I was surprised (and disappointed) that they didn't go the level editor route. It may've NSMBU more of a "killer app" to sell systems at launch. It really could've been a tremendous LittleBigPlanet competitor aside from the standalone game that we got, and increased replayability infinitely!

Or, perhaps that's what Nintendo was worried about, a game so fulfilling long-term, that people wouldn't buy other Wii U games! Only problem is Wii U games have been few and far between anyway. If they had a level editor, with thousands of user-created levels out there, I think there'd be more new Wii U owners out there, and happier early adopters.

All in all, a missed opportunity, in my opinion.

Re: Consumers Go Crazy For Wii U Following Xbox One Reveal

EvilRegal

LMAO! Thank you for your EA-like stupidity and greed, Microsoft! As a almost life-long Nintendo fan, it is greatly appreciated. Nintendo should hire Microsoft. Microsoft is doing a better job selling Wii U than Nintendo is. :/

I hope this is a sign that gamers are fed up with the shady practices of this Internet-connected era of gaming. I even read a RUMOR at IGN that the Xbox One could have visual DRM, scanning the room to determine if there are too many people there to be watching a movie, and shut it down if there are! Imagine your family members having to hide behind a chair to watch Iron Man 3! I found myself outraged by aspects of the reveal. I'm happy to see that others feel the same, and will vote for Nintendo and high quality, honest gaming with their wallets!

In case I didn't make it clear, there are viruses I'd want to get before I'd get a Xbox One.

Re: Super Mario Bros. 2 Hitting The North American Wii U Virtual Console Next Week

EvilRegal

So, how often are we going to get Wii U VC games that aren't already available? Once every few months? The "2" Nintendo should release is Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. It would build excitement for their newest VC service to have such a huge title available for the first time on VC! Instead, it's all titles already available, in some cases, on Wii AND 3DS. Oh well (shrugs shoulders).

Re: Disney Interactive Suffers Financial Loss in Q1

EvilRegal

Maybe they could help turn it around by making the awesome Once Upon a Time game that there's the potential for it to be! It could really set itself apart from Kingdom Hearts by being less cartoony, and much darker! I can't believe there's no OUaT game, here at almost the end of Season 2.

Re: Japanese Wii U Virtual Console Launches With 14 Titles Available To Download

EvilRegal

Following this batch, Japan is getting only 3 Wii U VC games that are already on Wii VC? What does everyone else get? One? If it's as slow building up Wii U VC library as I fear, I wonder what percentage of the already-available Wii VC library will be available when Wii U's successor is announced? 30-40%? Remember, when Wii came out, there was a FLOOD of VC games, for months.

Re: First Impressions: The Legend of Zelda 3DS

EvilRegal

Yesterday was one of the greatest days of my gaming life! ALttP is my favorite Zelda. I hoped for a true sequel one day, but didn't imagine it ever happening. So, this brought happy tears yesterday! I love the merging of old and new here. It's what I imagined a ALttP sequel to be!

One thing: When you already have the map and dungeons from ALttP set in stone, how do you extend it enough to make it feel like a new experience? Unless they extend the world map, I'm not sure how it could feel like anything but a "second quest" remix to ALttP. And I'm assuming this may be the Tower of Hera in the trailer. How do you explain changes to the environment.

Believe me, these aren't necessarily complaints. Just mysteries and concerns. I think the original ALttP world will have to be expanded somehow, though. This is now number 1 on my most wanted list!

Re: Feature: The GamePad - From Waggling Remotes To Dual Sticks and a Touchscreen

EvilRegal

I love the GamePad, and the possibilities it presents!

Here's the problem, and it's the same problem Nintendo's had with past innovations: Third-parties really don't want to deal with it. I think it's one reason third-parties constantly skip Nintendo systems. When Nintendo has something special like the GamePad, the Wiimote, etc., third-parties feel forced to somehow utilize it in their game. They actually have to use their brains to figure out something new to add, which wouldn't be present on other systems. So, they'd rather just program a regular old game requiring nothing extra, for Sony and Microsoft.

It becomes a situation where about the only games utilizing special Nintendo technology are first-party games. Then, people feel like it was a needless "gimmick", because it's rarely used. So, sadly, it could be said that Nintendo shoots itself in the foot by innovating! That doesn't, however, mean I want them to stop innovating.

Re: Talking Point: The Downside to Delayed Releases on Wii U

EvilRegal

The aggravating thing about it is this: When sales for the Wii U version of Rayman Legends are in the crapper, Ubisoft won't place the blame where it should be, on themselves for the lousy treatment of Wii U owners. They'll place the blame on Nintendo, for not moving enough Wii U systems; and gamers because, after all, Nintendo fans only buy first-party titles. Then, they'll say "we told you so", and there'll be another third-party giving token support to Nintendo, if any.

You don't even need a crystal ball to see how this all plays out. Just knowledge of the dynamic between Nintendo and third-parties.

Oh, I may've gotten Legends before the delay, but now I'm saving my limited gaming dollars for Zelda Oracles, and Wind Waker HD. Guess Nintendo gamers do only get first-party titles (eye roll).

Re: Talking Point: An Open Letter To Nintendo

EvilRegal

There are points I agree with, and points I disagree with. One thing: I don't think Nintendo intentionally lied, as they have no control over fair-weathered 3rd party support, but that promised support has turned out to be untrue. I feel they need to do what it takes to make it true, and get 3rd parties back on board. Something does need to change. It's looking like Wii U could be the least-supported Nintendo console yet.

It REALLY makes Wii U look bad when you look at a list of consoles some games like Battlefield 4 will support. Anyone has to admit that showing a list consisting of half decade-old consoles and unreleased consoles, but not Nintendo's brand-new console, just... looks... bad. With that noteworthy absence, possible Wii U purchasers have to be ask themselves: "Is there something wrong with this system that I don't know about, but game makers do?"

From where I sit, reading news at Nintendo Life everyday, just about the only ones supporting Wii U are Indies, and Nintendo itself. There's the whole, "well, Nintendo gamers just buy its consoles for 1st party titles" thing. But, you can't tell me that it would win many consumers "on the fence" to know that they can get Metal Gear Solid 5 along with their Mario and Zelda! And to me, it's not out of the realm of possibility imagining Nintendo deciding they should just stop making consoles when they have little support from anybody else, and it would be cheaper for them to just put their games on PS4/X720.

So, I believe this 3rd party abandonment of Wii U could have everlasting effects, if not changed.

In the near future, everyone will have an ever-growing knot on top of their head. Not because it's a tumor or some anomaly, but rather from repeatedly ramming each other head-to-head, whilst looking down at their smart phone. This article's picture is proof of our upcoming unicorn-like "evolution."

Re: Best Buy Employee On A Mission To Save R.O.B.

EvilRegal

This set was the one I originally got my NES with! I have my R.O.B. to the right of my TV, behind my NES.

Sad thing to me about this is the people who took it in for recycling. Some people don't know what they have. Nor do they have emotional attachments to anything. I don't believe in hording, but you can also apply some value to things like this that deserve it.

As for Best Buy, these big corporations are a load of laughs. They have these various "help the community" programs for no reason except helping their public image and attracting customers. If we knew the crooked crap BB and other corporations have pulled behind closed doors, people would riot in the streets and call for heads to roll.

Re: Capcom Having "Ongoing Discussions About Mega Man"

EvilRegal

What is there to discuss? Does Capcom think people would be so upset about all these cancellations and shabby treatment of the Blue Bomber if nobody cared about Mega Man anymore? I'd think that fact alone would prove to them that Mega Man is still a money maker for them. Does Capcom no longer like money?

Re: All New DuckTales is Coming to Wii U

EvilRegal

This news just blew me away, in a good way! All the feels! My childhood is jumping up and down on the bed, singing the Duck Tales song. ^_^ Duck Tales is one of my prized NES games, and it looks like this has many of the same mechanics!

I didn't know Capcom still had the rights to Disney games! Have to wonder if other Disney Afternoon games will come soon.

We need this (also doubling as my reaction to DT news)...

Re: Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara Coming To Wii U eShop This June

EvilRegal

Whoa. This, and Duck Tales, just came out of nowhere! I'm getting this Day One! I love the medieval, "Final Fight-style" Capcom games of the early 90s: King of Dragons, Knights of the Round, and Magic Sword (well, MS isn't FF-style, but still great)! I remember playing one of these in a bowling alley one time, and enjoyed it.

Finally, some HAPPY news from one of my old favorite third parties. Is CAPCOM back? Well, with them TALKING about a new Mega Man game to tease us wounded Blue Bomber fans, maybe not. But, today is a Helluva start down the road to redemption, if you ask me!

Re: Rumour: Capcom Developing New Strider Title For Digital Services

EvilRegal

I was hoping for this, as I remember seeing Strider mentioned on that Capcom survey from not long ago.

I've waited for a new Strider since the Strider 1 & 2 pack came out in 2000! Strider has gotten such little respect, they even had the games on the wrong discs (Strider 2 on 1, and vice versa). This was one of the best arcade games of the late 80s (I spent more than a few quarters on it), and I'd love to see the series revived!

Oh, and LOL at bad Genesis boxart "beefcake Strider Hiryu!" LOLWUT?
"All sons of old gods, DIE!!!"

Re: Castlevania II: Simon's Quest And Donkey Kong 3 Coming To Japanese 3DS eShop

EvilRegal

I personally enjoyed the exploration aspects of CV II, and it's one of my favorite CVs, despite the bad rap it gets. DK 3 brings up memories. I got it on my very first Christmas having the NES!

Those things said, wake me up when there are NEW games available on 3DS VC that haven't already been available for YEARS on Wii VC. :/ I'm STILL effing waiting on Castlevania: Bloodlines!

@DarkBlueEdge
Yeah, that's where I am. You consider the countless games that have never seen the light of day except for their original release, and we're getting previously available NES games (some of which have probably been on Wii VC since the very beginning).

Re: Super Metroid is 19 Years Old Today

EvilRegal

I will be thrilled to celebrate by getting it on Wii U VC, and playing through it for the umpteenth time. They just don't make games like they used to. Oh, what I'd do to get my hands on a new 2D 3DS or Wii U Metroid of Super Metroid's caliber!!!
