If you enjoy classic run and gun shooters, Contra Anniversary Collection is probably a release you’ve been keeping an eye on since Konami announced it alongside two other digital retro collections in March.
Of course, you can never have too much Contra in your life. Online German retailer NetGames recently posted a listing for a physical Contra game, due out on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on 24th September 2019.
It’s got fans wondering if Konami will reveal a retail version of the collection around the time of E3, even though the Japanese company previously stated it had no plans to release any of the anniversary games in-store. Others seem to think it could be a new game, remake, re-release or simply an incorrect listing.
What do you make of this? Tell us down in the comments.

LET'S ATTACK AGGRESSIVELY!
This could end up just being that Chinese mobile game, but still...
IT'S TIME FOR REVENGE!!
"A Contra game" or the anniversary collection? That's what it should have been since the beginning. And Castlevania too. The old arcade shmups I understand why they wouldn't take the risk, but Castlevania and Contra collections should sell well.
@Mach_Rider what chinese mobile game?
@manu0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OB4eVDGtg88
Is this not a possible e3 spoiler??? Did we not already agree rules about e3 spoilers on another thread?
@Stocksy there's no suggestion it is an E3 announcement, so we're still going to report on it. Closer to E3, we might try and be a bit more spoiler free, sure, but we're still a few weeks away. If you 100% don't want any spoilers for E3, you better stay off the internet for the next few weeks
Whenever I see the Contra NES box art on any gaming site’s article header I feel compelled to click. I would love to have that version on Switch!
I will be getting this, but when it comes to a day one purchase i'm all over the place. I'm up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, this will B, A hard decision to START for me.
Nah, it’s just confusion around the plot for the next Call of Duty, centered on Nicaragua. 😜
@BacklogBlues I understood that reference.
They say they have no plans to release the anniversary collections in stores, aka physically. But i think a Anniversary Trilogy Collection with all three anniversary collections released physically for $59.99 around the Winter Holidays is a no brainer, money maker. IMO
Contra Rebirth!
Would be a good deal for 20$.
@BacklogBlues : That would make the most sense, but I wouldn't call it a "trilogy collection", which sounds a tad awkward. Konami Anthology Collection, perhaps?
I definitely want the Castlevania collection (I couldn't care for the others) so I would definitely go all in on a physical release.
Ubisoft has released a few physical cartridges with multiple games on them (where the cart spawns a separate icon for each software title), so Konami could very well do the same here as well.
That Gryzor cover art always reminded me of Predator
So what? Can't say I trust stores on this. My local GameStops sold preorders of a switch release of Yooka Laylee in 2017, and theoretically I can still preorder that Worms game Super Rare released and a European release of Cave story
Imagine konami actually wanting to maintain interested in your series

What if it's a remaster of Contra Force?
There are classic run and gun shooters and then there’s Contra. Bring it on Konami and get me to the frickin’ choppa!
@Gerald
Well, at the end of Contra, Mad Dog & Scorpion do GET TO THE CHOPPAH! :3
@Shiryu
Konami needs to aggressively attack deciding what other four games to put on the anniversary collection, and let us know!
Fingers crossed for a brand new 2d Contra!
@Silly_G
It should simply be called Konami Collection Collection.
Hopefully it's a physical collection release of every Contra games known to man.
@Stocksy so you are suggesting they should stop reporting any rumor because it COULD be a E3 spoiler?
The Anniversary collection is supposed to release in early summer so I would bet this is something different. A physical release has me interested though. Maybe a reboot of the series possibly? I am a fan of the Contra series for its innate ability to perfect game play with limited graphics and plot. I still play my NES carts and have been waiting on the collection release so I can play it on the Switch.
@Mach_Rider
i just looked at the Chinese version and I like it. Maybe we will see this one in September.
@Zidentia Yup, it doesn't look bad at all. Frankly, at this point I'd take anything. Remember that teaser for a 3DS Contra we never got?
It would be weird of this gets a physical release, but not the Castlevania collection.
@Mach_Rider
yes I do. I hope this is not the same either way.
It's an autocorrect issue. I'm sure they meant Conker is coming soon. 😁
I'd be all for a Contra physical release!!
Any type of Contra would be good on the Switch. Hope it's all true for a release!
@John_Deacon
Never use that name around here! It doesn't deserve it. It should just be called "Force". No amount of remastering can make it a "Contra" game.
@Rockman55 HAHAHAAHAAHAHAHAAHHAHAHHAHAHA
To be honest, WE don't deserve that game but I just couldn't help it
Sorry for calling the devil out loud
Germany, you say? C o n t r a is a pretty odd way to spell “Probotector”, I’d say. 😂
Maybe they're finally releasing the korean arcade version from a couple of years ago ???
@robr came here just to say that its called probotector😂
I'm still waiting on Contra 3D for the 3DS., lol.
Huh. Knowing Konami it'll probably be a physical box with a digital code.
@tc-senzei Kinda sounds like something that aliens use on abducted people. Lol
If there's a physical edition that includes the best ones in the franchise (Hard Corps absolutely needs to be there), I will support it 100%. I'd like for Konami to reconsider releasing a physical edition of the Castlevania Collection as well and if the Contra one sells enough maybe that's not out of the question?
@Hordak it will be included with the collection. I don't know if the code will still work though. I'm guessing it will as it is a huge plus for the game.
