Re: Talking Point: What Does Google's Stadia Mean For Nintendo And The Future Of Gaming?

Given the parasitical nature of most of the tech giants I suppose this was to be expected. Become the de-facto distributer of all content in a chosen area and then skim off your cut from every transaction without adding anything creatively. Luckily for us the flaw in that strategy is Nintendo will always keep its triple A stuff on only its own platforms. Google can therefore take a running jump!

It's a fact that if you tuned out of the gaming scene in the 90s, the plethora of sticks and buttons that came afterwards
that you often have to get your head around does put up a barrier to re-entry. This and the unpleasantness that can come from online play now. When it was just the computer or your pal sitting right next to you, such things couldn't happen. Is good that Peter is thinking of these people.

I was always more of a "Bad Influence" person myself. Their approach was much more in line with the best of the UK games mags at the time - ie even though a lot of their readers/viewers would only be teenagers, they never patronised them and kept the tone informative and intelligent.

GamesMaster by contrast was naff, unfunny and assumed its viewers were all obnoxious little spotty herberts with too many hormones.

Disney is definitely the template here. With IPs which have huge child and family friendly appeal, the sky's the limit for TV, movies, merchandise and theme parks, if they so wish it. The only surprise is why they have teamed up with Comcast/Universal to do this (which they have for anyone unfamiliar) Surely if they hired the right people they could keep all this, and the resulting profits inhouse?

Re: Review: Prison Architect: Nintendo Switch Edition (Switch eShop)

Played this on PC and thought it was great, up until I shot too many escapees and the game abruptly ended as was and turned into some sort of weird prisoner simulation, with me then expected to try to break out of the place I'd created. There was no warning however in the tutorials that this could happen and 70 hours of play went down the tubes. Very bad design in this regard. The best strategy games would never punish you so instantly and totally.
