The UK was a world leader in games and technology until the usual free for all meant it was all sold off to the highest bidder.

The question is what price will the Chinese extract for allowing Nintendo access to their market? Another recent story on here had some official or other saying he expected Nintendo to transfer game designing skills and even allow them to use their IPs. A dangerous situation for the company to say the least.

The usual Chinese modis operandi of stealing other countries' skills and technology. I hope Nintendo tell them to take a running jump.

What's with the worshipping of this businessman? I severally doubt he ever actually played any videogames.

Shame it can't be sued for being unplayable. If you're a new user there is literally no tutorial or matching of players by skill level, meaning nothing but endless slaughter takes place.

An essential update. The game is virtually unplayable in its current form to newbies.

Can't see the harm in this, I guess. Don't think anyone will put their Switch down to play it, so as such it's just an advert for Nintendo's wares to the casual crowd.

Why would Nintendo have left that as a possibility? The TV model costs nearly a third more, and I imagine they are quite happy to pocket that extra cash wherever possible.

Nintendo is timeless. They just need to buy out xbox now so they can recapture the young male market.

The game is garbage. The reviewer has every right to call it what it is.

Yoshi's Island. It came out late in the lifespan of the SNES, so I'd already moved onto other things when it was released. Great to be able to play it now.

Cheap and nasty. Much beyond things where not much can go wrong like carry cases or cartridge holders and I always buy official merchandise.

Why not? Xbox is going for a different demographic to Nintendo. As such I think it'd be complimentary to Switch to have it on there. It would all come down to what cut Nintendo got out of it. Make it large enough and it'll certainly happen.

@RazumikhinPG There's a lot to be said for a uniform block of red spines. Heck I even get anal over different typefaces being used on them.

SNES games, at least another couple of Tetris 99 style experiences and a MMO are needed for this service to become a must have purchase.

Taking a chance and bought it just now. I'm assuming no company would be so dumb to make the toys obligitory to play it. Absolute steal if that's the case.

A better approach would have been to drop the puzzling and just have a create your own model railway concept.

Playstation games depress me. They feature misery, death and destruction most of the time. Nintendo should take it as a compliment that Sony are not thinking about them.

The day Nintendo start to rush games will be the day they don't have a future. Their remorseless dedication to quality is why they didn't go the way of Sega.

Good IP choice for a smartphone game. Nintendo shouldn't cheapen its main franchises by putting them on devices for free. Doctor Mario fits the bill perfectly.

Irrespective of how real this thing is, there is still the need for a new dock. Looks ugly as hell having to slide your Switch into the clunky brick you're given presently.

Great to see Nintendo getting back on top. The power of gameplay over gloss.

I miss the big old chunky cartridges. Games weren't cheap back then and having them on something that size added to the feel you were buying a premium product. Looked nicer stored too.

@RadioHedgeFund You've got it in one. Apple and Disney are also both special companies with a creative heart. And there aren't many of them about!

How about a MMO? A new universe to explore that ties in with one or many of Nintendo's existing IPs? Sure that'd be expensive to produce, but I think the online service has to offer at least one experience with a wow factor.

With sales like that I'm surprised Nintendo aren't still selling the actual console anymore.

A puzzle game dressed up as an adventure. Give me proper point n click any day.

Easy to see now from these figures why the Wii was such a one off blip in its level of popularity. Most of Nintendo's usual evergreen blockbusters are well behind the Wii specific stuff. In other words all the brand loyalty was linked to that console, rather than Nintendo itself.

@VmprHntrD The nasty cable bills had already reached a grotesque level anyway, with good content being spread ever more thinly across new network after new network over time. For cable cutters I think the worst that will happen is that they end up with a duplication of that strategy and cost through streaming. There's no reason to think it'll reach a level of being greater though.

@andywitmyer I thought that'd be the whole point in making it this way. Some (albeit not the majority of) licensed games back then did make a decent fist of turning shows and movies into good games. T2 and TMNT being just two examples.

@SonOfVon Given winning is often chaotic and random, anything that rewards showing at least some skill has to be welcomed.
