Played this on PC and thought it was great, up until I shot too many escapees and the game abruptly ended as was and turned into some sort of weird prisoner simulation, with me then expected to try to break out of the place I'd created. There was no warning however in the tutorials that this could happen and 70 hours of play went down the tubes. Very bad design in this regard. The best strategy games would never punish you so instantly and totally.

I'm still waiting for that iconic gold standard strategy game from Nintendo. Something along the lines of Civilization. There's probably as much chance of them making a genre beater in that sector as a MMORPG in all reality though.

The lesson: forget the hardcore and cater for the countless millions who just want some inexpensive first rate fun.

We need Nintendo's full back catalogue available before I think they have the right to crush all ROM sites. At the moment their seminal releases and select third party content get an airing, anything a little obscure though and you can forget it.

I remember Stunt Race FX being something of a let down for me. Maybe this would have been a better attempt to utilise the technology of the Super FX chip?

Endless re-releases of Wii U games will not engender good feelings from Nintendo's loyalist fans, who supported the company when it was at its nadir a few years back with that machine.

Shame they had to remove the music from the BBC's Casualty series that was in the early access version.

The amazing pool of talent that was the British programming scene back then. A sign of things to come though, all that genius and ingenuity ultimately utilised to allow big foreign companies to make a fortune.

@FragRed Given the choice if this is going to happen anyway, I'd rather Amazon was behind it. Prime has some quality control over its catalogue and Twitch is entertaining enough.

It is a great shame to see a developer being allowed to ride on the coat tails of demographics that Nintendo cater to with garbage like this.

@Dualmask, I agree. For music, TV and film anything stored exclusively in clouds, locking me into one company's website, or one company's software to access is an absolute no no.

I imagine they all have small print somewhere saying they could shut them down at some point if the whim took them. I buy cartridges if possible for the same reason.

That would be a shame as there's nothing quite like being able get that sense of visual satisfaction from looking at all your games on a shelf.

Nintendo should never have sold Rare.

So as an adult does this mean going forward I'll no longer have any new releases to look forward to?

What happened to Reggie saying the 2/3DS would also be aimed at the cost conscious market as well?

One of a handful of SNES games I always wanted, but never managed to get as a kid. So happy I've finally managed to download it now.

I don't get it, why would Nintendo have needed Panasonic in on the project? I can't think of anything they would have brought to the table that Nintendo coudn't do on their own anyway.

@Mew I'd forgot about the football one and didn't know he was in baseball and basketball titles. I wouldn't really call Mario Kart a sports game though, racing has traditionally been considered its own genre. Anyway, I still stand by my original point, there are dozens of sports still to explore while the same few favourites seem to be returned to over and ever.

Why is it always either tennis or golf that nintendo link with Mario? If they're going to attach their mascot in tenuous ways to sports, they could at least show a bit more imagination. After all, In most other areas nintendo has never been short of that.

They never should have sold Rare and we wouldn't be having these discussions about likely missing games now. Nintendo kept hold of Retro and Monolith, and I think most people would be hard pressed to say they are better studios.

@gauthieryannick, what I was going to say. And we haven't had an F Zero in quite a while either. Much rather see the hyper fast format of those games be resurrected before Star Fox is returned to in any genre.

@Faruko, erm, more like 13m and I was one of them. I will move over to Switch eventually, but not while Splatoon 2 and Odyssey are the only two grade A exclusives. Tropical Freeze is just more of the same.

When the Switch starts retailing for less than 200 it'll begin moving into the same market as the 2/3DS ie, younger or more cost conscious consumers. Only at that point will Nintendo start to put it out to pasture.

@Balladeer when used in that context "real gamers" usually means obnoxious teenage boys with an endless thirst for shooting things. Nintendo make great games for EVERYONE!

@Bondi_Surfer Publishers are getting greedier now as this period in gaming is starting to take on legendary status to more and more of the population with the passage of time.

Spain still has an official magazine? What gives? The UK had its brilliant one shut down years ago, supposedly due to low sales. And it has a population 20m higher too.

Super imaginative stuff. I wouldn't expect anything less though from the Big N.

GAME totally take the mick when it comes to prices. I've see them charging more for second hand titles than you would pay online to buy them new.

Then again, they are not alone in such practices, Grainger Games and CEX are almost as bad. I guess if people are stupid enough to let themselves be ripped off, who can blame them for trying their luck?

Be honest, they came up with the title first and game was an afterthought.

I didn't know if your online players came from just Wii U users or a mix of them and Switch ones - like with Mario Kart 8. Sounds worrying if all you have to play against is Wii U owners. Can imagine that's now be a small and ever decreasing circle of people.

Good to see more strategy on Nintendo hardware. The assumption by games companies that most console owners are dumb kids needs to be challenged as much as possible.

@Pod Yes and that's a good thing in my view. Nothing like holding a box and cartridge in your hand and knowing they're yours forever. Nintendo should be producing more deluxe special editions to cater for such collectors.

Nintendo need to be broadening out their consumer base. Obsessing over 8 year olds all the time is NOT the way forward.

@abe_hikura, 2ds' are now dirt cheap and durable. They won't bring out a mini switch to replace it until costs have gone through the floor.

God, I always kept my large SNES collection ultra pristine, back in the day (including the boxes). If only I'd hung onto it all!

There is far too much rehashing of Wii U stuff going on with the Switch if you ask me. This being just the latest example.

Nice link up with Universal. Between their theme parks and animation assets, this looks like a partnership that could deliver a lot of great synergies.

@Grawlog, That's a really great idea. Good way for Nintendo to keep up for those who want to use their switch as a more traditional console.
