Re: Review: Pokémon Legends: Arceus - One Of The Greatest Pokémon Games Ever Made

EOTW

@Tchunga agree to disagree on that one. Gen 7 also introduced significantly more linear level design which was a big deal to me. I felt the story (like in any pokemon game) was nothing to write home about. And I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I don't think HMs are that big of a deal. It's just a move slot. In general, the cons outweighed the pros for me. First pokemon game i played that slightly disappointed me.

Re: Review: Pokémon Legends: Arceus - One Of The Greatest Pokémon Games Ever Made

@Dilly-Mick Obviously it's popular. But we can't use popularity to determine its quality. If we did, then that means Pokemon has only ever gotten better since each new generation sells better than the last. But I don't feel that that is true, so I'll wait for the hype to die down. Even with how positive reviews have been, I've seen nothing that makes this look like a good open world game. Samey fields, sparse trees, and the only gameplay is sneaking and catching pokemon. Even so it looks like it could be fun for a while, but not more than 10 hours. Pokemon has always enjoyed zealot level hype for new releases. If that holds out into mid February with minimal complaints, then I'll be more inclined to believe it.

While I generally respect NLife's reviews, I'd just like to point out they have strong bias with pokemon. Sun/Moon got a 10/10, Sword/Shield an 8/10. This game may be good, or it may be overhyped by initial reviews the same way previous games in the series were. I'll wait for people to finish the game and see user reviews before making a decision on this one.

@JasonLee99
@Action51
Fair enough.
@Stargazer Exaggerations aside, I do expect a reviewer to give a game a chance. I will say, though, that if you don't enjoy a game in first hour or two then I doubt you would start liking it halfway through.

Re: Review: Twisted Fusion (Wii U eShop)

Why should the reviewer have to complete the game to determine whether they like it or not? If the game doesn't hook them then that's that. Like, I never beat the final boss of Sticker Star, but I doubt doing so would change my opinion of it. Sure, maybe the game has cool features further in, but if the game leading up to that isn't fun for you then what's the point?

Re: Hands On: Painting a Clearer Picture of Paper Mario: Color Splash

EOTW

@MussakkuLaden I'm one of the fans you are referring to, and I think this article and your statement are misleading. I never loved the series because it was an RPG, I love it because it is Paper Mario. I like SPM just as much as the original because they had fun and unique stories, characters, and had fun gameplay to match it. If Sticker Star had been even remotely engaging I probably would've liked that one too. I could have looked past all of its flaws had I been invested in it, but I wasn't. The game has no character, it is very pretty, but it has no character. I made it all the way to the final stage of the final boss, ran out of stickers, then stopped playing. It wasn't even a rage quit, I just asked myself "Why am I even playing this?" I'm no game designer, and I won't pretend like I understand any of the fundamentals of game making, but if a player puts down the controller like that, especially when they love the series, that is a big problem.

Re: Paper Mario Colour Splash Coming to Wii U

EOTW

I feel like maybe Intelligent Systems has two distinct groups of people for the PM titles: one group for art direction and the other for game design. Both are good, and art crew just keeps outdoing themselves. Game design crew thinks that they need to keep mixing things up to stay relevant. Why they think this I will never know; it isn't like the formula turned stale after two games. Heck even SPM was good but they just couldn't stop altering and gimmicking up the system and now we have... card flinging. Sigh @TheLastLugia is right though. We should wait till we have more solid info to pass judgement, but I'm not optimistic.

Re: Paper Mario Colour Splash Coming to Wii U

EOTW

It looks really good, like the aesthetic is absolutely fantastic. Unfortunately the last time I said that about a Paper Mario title it ended up being really terrible. I'm excited but at the same time I feel like this is going to be too much like Sticker Star.

Re: Poll: What Do You Want From Nintendo's NX Platform?

EOTW

I don't see why people want a unified system so badly. What benefit is there to that? I feel like concentrating and making a good one or the other will be superior to mashing them together for no reason. A unified system would be mediocre IMO.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of Nintendo's E3 Digital Event?

EOTW

Well I'm excited about Star Fox, Fire Emblem: Fates, and Xenoblade Chronicles X. I want to be excited about Mario and Luigi: Paper Jam, but after playing the slightly disappointing Dream Team and the abysmal Sticker Star, I just don't have any faith that this entry will be good.

Re: Games Consultant Believes Nintendo NX Could Be "The Defining Video Game Controller Of The Smart Device Age"

EOTW

That's a little far fetched, but I think he is on the right track with his thought process. I don't think that that is what the NX will be like, but I have no doubt it will be revolutionary.
@LavaTwilight It should also be argued that he was shoehorning in the QoL platform as well. He seems to think that all of these projects are going to materialize as a single entity, which is almost definitely not the case.

Re: Japan Weekly: Bravely Second Jobs Revealed and Theatrhythm Dragon Quest Reviewed

EOTW

@DarthNocturnal Yes it really is that good. It is far superior to 4 heroes in every way and doesn't suffer from those design flaws, though it does have one really big flaw of its own. I can't really say what it is without spoiling anything, but I can say that despite the second half of the game being practically ruined by it I still love the game to bits and wholeheartedly recommend it.
