CoroCoro has revealed three new Mega Evolutions for the upcoming Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire games.
The three monsters in question are Sharpedo, Gallade and Camerupt, all three of which started their evolutionary line in the original Ruby and Sapphire versions.
Mega Sharpedo has the ability Strong Jaw whilst Mega Camerupt will have the ability Sheer Force. Mega Gallade's ability is currently unknown.
That's not all, both Primal forms of Kyogre and Groudon have new abilities, namely Sea of Beginnings for Kyogre and Land of Endings for Groudon. Although it is not clear what effect these will have on the game, they apparently initiate effects known as Strong Rain and Strong Sunlight respective to each monster.
Has this set you raring to get this latest re-imagining of the classic third generation? Let us know in the comments below.

I really like how all three of these mega evolutions look like.
I really like Mega Camerupt
Hopefully mega Sharpedo doesn't become too strong with the combination of speed boost, protect and then mega evolving. All of these pokemon do deserve their mega evolution, but it is especially nice to see that they gave Gallade a mega evo too. Not too surprising, but nice
I really like how Mega Gallade looks. I'm more drawn to megas that don't look too different from the original design.
Mega Gallade rocks, I rather like how mega sharpedo looks threatning (even though without a tail) but I'm not abig fan of mega camerupt
It looks like Wally will play a more prominent role in this game with that Mega Gallade.
Mega Camerupt looks happy? Mega Sharpedo looks threatening and Mega Gallade well...
Not a big fan of the Mega evolution phase GameFreak got going on.
Loving all the new megas. IM still happy for mega salamence lol. also love the designs of M.Gallade and M.Camerupt
People were saying there won't be a Mega Galade, so no Mega Slowking along with the announced Mega Slowbro.. Eat your words now. Mega Camerupt looks like a Macargo evolution..
I'm not a big fan of the whole mega evolution craze. I feel like these Pokemon just become OP when they mega evolve. Of course, this is coming from a guy who builds teams based on those he thinks are cool, regardless of stats.
Camerupt gets sheer force? Whoa, that's one of my favorite abilities, on one of my favorite pokemon!
I'm gonna breed up some heavy ball numels with a ton of egg moves. Fingers crossed for a lovely shiny baby! I'll transfer it to AS and have it as a main party member if I hatch one.
Ooooh! Awesome!
Gallade is alright, still waiting on some of my faves to get a mega. Lanturn, Carracosta and Pangoro are the ones I'm waiting for.
It's nice that Sharpedo gets a Mega Evolution since I always loved it despite it being kinda weak.
Meh
Reads Mega Gallade in title Get rid of the frisbee gut. Get rid of the frisbee gut.
Get rid of the frisbee gut. Sees frilly looking Gallade... with a frisbee gut. Sighs
I think it makes more sense for Wally to have a Gallade. I like it.
Sweet!
abiut time!
Yes! I predicted that there would be a Mega Sharpedo and Mega Camerupt what with them being Archie and Maxie's mains. They both look awesome. I find Sharpedo especially good, as it incorporates elements of a saw nose shark and a submarine. Mega Gallade also looks swell. It'll be very fitting for Wally.
So, Sea of Beginnings and Land of Endings? Oh, this is gonna be good!
Love all three designs. Initially I was kind of bummed that Mega Sharpedo doesn't have Speed Boost, but it can be worked around before with Protect. And I'm hoping they don't give Mega Gallade a pointless boost to Special Attack like they gave Mega Gardevoir more Attack. GameFreak trolling at its finest.
Mega Slowking is next along with Mega Rayquaza!!!! I am too hyped for the games, I want to play them now!!!!!!!!
Already had Numel and Carvanha bred for my playthrough team.
So, so happy they got Megas!
Getting ready for Mega Hypno and Mega Magcargo!! ... if only.
Oh my god what have they done to you Camerupt you look terrible. And Sharpedo looks fine for me Gallade, well i guess if Gardevoir gets a mega he should get one to.But i''m still waiting for a mega for Cacturne and Ludicolo.
Can we please stop it with all these mega's. I am not a fan of this direction at all.
I still worry for the durability of Gallade. I assume it doesn't lose Fighting type which doesn't help it live priority Brave Bird.
The others reek of version exclusive, sadly (I hate version exclusive stones, either I waste my time trading with someone or waste my money buying a cheat tool to get them...guess they want you to buy the other game...and a second system)
repeating what I said in the ORAS thread
Not really sure what to think of this.. well mega gallade is awesome, that needed a buff for sure. Needless to say, sharpedo and camerupt too needed megas.. my concern was how could they make them any different than now?
Maybe strong jaw is good with sharpedo.. it only needs a single speed boost nonmega. However they might require protect wasting a moveslot.
Camerupt.. probably mega ampharos v.2 with worser typing and only running (for sheer force) fire blast, flamethrower, earth power, and that's it. Going to be tricky to use reguardless, atleast not any better than specs eruption trick room+sun teams..
Gallade definitly needed a mega, but sorry fans who begged for it.. it's still terrible because it's gallade's typing thats bad.. turning resistances into neutral hits and weak to two different, very common prioity. Unless it gets 130 speed (which is all it needs) and has a couple sword dance's with shadow sneak.. I can't see it being that useful.. lucario could atleast live a brave bird.
I'm pretty sure it's going to get the same boost as gardevoir when mega.. just special/physical reversed.
Atk: 165 +40
Def: 135 +20
SpD: 65 +0
SpA: 85 +20
Spe: 100 +20
Adverage at best.. doesn't give me a reason to use over lopunny or some other physical attacker mega with similar speed.
@Stomatopod17 That's assuming whoever is using Mega Gallade doesn't have a clue on what its on the team for. An intelligent and calculative mind could easily find a way to balance out his weakness. He won't be the only Pokemon with a slot in a competitive team, mind you.
@BlatantlyHeroic
That's not the problem.. the problem is, is it fast enough? Is it still too frail? Does it have high base power moves? Is it strong enough to compete with choice band/life orb? Well.. 100 base speed is something you'd want to scarf so not that impressive.. improvement definitly as seen with mega garde but not enough. Volcarona and slower things get away with it because they have a boosting move or have priority/are tanky. If gallade got huge power or even pure power I can see it abusing SD+shadow sneak but other than that, fake out, drain punch, mega medicham brings more to the table.. if I'm going to run a team of 1 mega and build around it.. (head smash aggron paired with it for talonflames?) wouldn't I want that mega to be my best choice? Or is it going to be outclassed by something else with the same niche only stronger in general.. and that exactly describes gallade vs. medicham..
Medicham has fake out to break sashes. Gallade doesn't.
Same speed tier.
Gallade could have 165 base power in attack, medicham has 200.
Gallade has shadow sneak for metagross and gengar, medicham has bullet punch for fairies.
Almost identical movepools with gallade having wider coverage.
Same typing and weaknesses.
They each have their similarities and that's what worries me..
I'm almost 100% sure that's be gallade's stat spread.. it wouldn't seem logical to reverse the pokemon's stats nonmega with gardevoir and not to when mega. The only way gallade can say it's different would be a new ability for it.. and that we have no clue yet. Either way just speculation.
@Stomatopod I see what you're saying. For me, I win competitive battles with an unpredictability factor. I rarely use Pokemon in OU, and instead opt for ones in RU or UU so that opponents less prepared for my strategy. Could a Pokemon in OU fill the role better? Of course! The thing is, I don't like being a copy of everyone else out there. I HAVE to be unique, and so I come up with my own strategies which almost always lead me to a quick or a nice drawn out victory.
@BlatantlyHeroic Same playstyle, I like it, (I still use aegislash so no smogon perspective here fyi) but like I said.. even if using gallade, what is the unpredictability difference between him and medicham? Sub-dance maybe? Could work (does he get focus punch?) but like I was pointing out they're very identical. If one has a different niche compared to the other like setup then perhaps it's just as good or better than medicham.. then medicham has competition trying to make sets to outclass gallade... this is why one of the two needed a type change or something so they can't be compared.
I can see gallade pairing well with heatran and galvantula.. galvantula can put up sticky web so after an SD=GG. Heatran is strickly for talonflame and stealth rocks. Galvantula can also deal with skarm and mandibuzz. Gallade has ice punch for everything else (gliscor specifically.)
Basicly..
Medicham vs. gallade=Sheer power vs. Setup+versitility.
I personally prefer clawitzer over blastoise since a mega slot isn't taken up. I even run sludge bomb on mine to surprise and lure azumaril.
Mega Sharpedo kinda looks dumb and in pain.
@Stomatopod17 I understand completely. Truthfully I just dislike that some Pokemon are nerfed like this. Gamefreak really should look at what they do to their Pokemon stat wise and try to balance everyone out instead of having this power struggle which has increased with mega evolution's introduction.
I was kind of hoping that Gallade's Psychic type would change into Fairy once it mega evolves. At least it would have a immunity.
Mega-evos look nice but what they really need is Mega Team Rocket!!
Mega-evos look nice but what they really need is Mega Team Rocket!!
Hm, Mega Gallade doesn't look that bad, but I was hoping for something more elegant. Mega Sharpedo is getting irritatingly similar to
Garchomp design-wise, and Mega Camerupt, while looking much better than before, still seems kinda boring to me. Oh well.
@BlatantlyHeroic I think there's a misunderstanding here.
Game Freak doesn't care much for competitive balancing, so they also don't involve it much when designing Megas.
I think I've read somewhere that Masuda (development head of Game Freak) and Sugimori (Pokémon and character designer) decide on this stuff according to the Pokés environment and behaviour, finding stats alterings that compliment their style, not necessarily enhance them in the stricter sense. That means they probably look for fitting Pokés to add Mega evolutions to, instead of looking for a balanced metagame.
But I also think that's the right approach. Pokémon wasn't designed with competitive balance in mind, so shoehorning it in this late in the series would be more irritating than beneficial. It's all about environmental and natural authenticity.
Actually sharpedo seems like it's going to be broken..I mean c'mon.. Speed boost prior to mega, and it has destiny bond taking out anything it's guarenteed not to OHKO. Sword's dance is also an option. However four moveslot syndrome is a problem.. aqua jet isn't strong enough as it's a weak move and it's not strong jaw boosted.. however mach punch will murder you otherwise. Power vs. survival and this is were it may be terrible..
Mega Gallade looks cool.
I don't know what to think of Mega Camerupt and Mega Sharpedo, they're alright I guess. I've always been somewhat mixed about Mega's, not so much the concept. I love the idea, it's just most of the designs look like they're fan made or something.
"Strong Rain and Strong Sunlight "
Perhaps they will create a rain dance/sunny day that last forever like drizzle and drought originally did?
Mega Camerupt is pretty cool, I like how they got rid of the blue, and competitively it needed to happen. Mega Gallade mostly looks the same, so meh. Mega Sharpedo looks ridiculous, sorry.
Not bad, but how about a Mega Flygon now?
@Gridatttack
Well probably include additional effects;maybe burns on pokemon that aren't fire type for the sunlight?
@Yorumi That's not really the same. They acknowledge the competition built around the metagame (they created it, after all), but that doesn't mean they care about actual competitive balancing - quite a few of the Pokés in post-game challenge modes would barely ever find real use in tournaments, to begin with.
Game Freak more or less reacted to the increasing demand of tournaments, but their Pokémon designs mostly happen without much consideration to balance.
Annyone noticed M in the front of Camerupts face?
It's Pokémon so I will not be able to resist it. It's basically always the same, but just that much more polished and refined that you want to buy it again every year.
But where's Mega Flygon?!
I already saw coming that Wally's male Gardevoir (as it was set to always be male) would be changed to a Gallade but this still saddens me because it decreases the chances of Gardevoir getting new moves (like Quiver Dance).
How horribly predictable, every bit of info this month was stuff that people saw coming a mile away. Pretty boring reveal for something so close to release. ORAS really needs more of a surprise factor, something new and exciting that makes it worth buying to someone who's already played the originals. Fancy Mega Evolutions aren't going to cut it.
I am quite happy that they decided to go with Mega Gallade for Wally though, that really needed to happen.
Ok I have to get this game now... I've always wanted an excuse to use Sharpedo
My problem with most Mega evolutions is that they end the Pokemons evolutionary stages. They really should have been saved for Pokemon who have three evolutionary stages already.
I want so bad in the US. NOA make it happen!
Mega flygon or riot!
(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
They all look pretty awful, honestly o___o
Dat Wally tho
I just realized that Wally's pose looks like he's holding a mic. They should put him in the contests, it'll be great.
I hope we can battle 3024 6674 5919
hopefully they have a mega legendary Pokémon beside the two we know
Zomg Mega Gallade? Mega Camarupt?! Heck yeah! That Sharpedo looks stupid but if they make him useful I won't complain.
I wouldn't complain
Mega Camelrupt is really baller
I like Mega Camerupt hahaha. Pretty cute.
While I do like these designs I don't see why Camerupt and Sharpedo couldn't just have some legitimate evolutions... I think megas should be reserved for Pokemon who have already reached their third evolution...
mega camerupt looks like magargo fused with gogoat or something xD but eh they look good compared to the last announced ones and see these guys do deserve one unlike audino -_-
@Captain05crunch Keep in mind that Mega Evolutions have a locked in hold item, so they can no longer hold something like Life Orb or Leftovers instead.
@Stomatopod17 Serebii has confirmed that Mega Gallade's ability is Inner Focus. Yikes. So yeah, unless they give him a base speed higher than base 100, you're pretty much dead on.
@LtAldoRaine If your biggest problem is M. kangashkan.. M. gallade over M. medicham then!
Thats all I got.. neither can live a return.
Mega Sharpedo looks really cool. He needed a boost. Gallade barely looks different but she needed a boost too.
Does anyone has a demo code
