"Switch owners love owning the games they buy in physical form (even if, in many cases, the entire game doesn't exist on the game card, and the perks of physical ownership are now almost entirely limited to a plastic case with an inlay)."
I would love to see where you can find Switch owners that love a physical game that needs to be partly downloaded. Because across several message boards and websites, I've only ever seen people unhappy about this.
"The game's trailer, which we won't reproduce here for reasons that should be obvious"
I guess I don't get the obvious reason, do you only show trailers that do contain explicit material? Because that Dead or Alive beach game trailer you did show has about 5x more skin showing, and about 100x more jiggle.
I don't understand why they replaced Blue Toad with Toadette. With Blue Toad still in the game, the game could be played as it was originally on the Wii U. Nabbit and Toadette should have been a 5th and 6th option for those that wanted it. Now, when playing 4 players, 1 player is forced to be one of the "easier" characters.
It sounds like all the old VC stuff will eventually end up as part of the subscription. I never bought any VC stuff on the Wii/Wii U since I could already play most of those games on the TV. Now that I have the Switch and those games can be made portable, I want to buy them and they won't let me.
@ViewtifulJotun I agree, I was very interested in this game until I saw it needed a download to play one of the games. Now, I won't be buying it (unless I see a copy in the bargain bin in a few years). Maybe they'll release a complete version some day.
@NEStalgia You're a little confused on your Final Fantasy history. FF1 on the Famicom was brought to the west on the NES. FF2 and FF3 for the Famicom were not.
FF4 on the Super Famicom made it to the west as FF2 on the Super Nintendo. FF5 was not brought over, but FF6 was as FF3.
Then FF7 made it over on the Playstation, and since then, they've stuck with the original numbering on everything, even when re-releasing the old FF1-6. But yes, the SNES FF2 and FF3 will be confusing to those that don't know they're actually FF4 and FF6.
Everyone keeps saying that you can preorder for a set amount of time. So did Yooka-Laylee only have a two minute preorder time? I don't understand how they sold out in a couple of minutes if they accept preorders for weeks. What am I missing here?
I think it's stupid how they do things. They should take orders first, then make that many. That way everyone that wants one can get it, no one gets upset when they run out in minutes, and they'll make more money overall.
But hey, I don't run a business, so what would I know in using basic common sense in a business plan.
My favorite is a gift my wife got me for Christmas: Super Mario Adventures. It's a collection of Mario comics that used to run in Nintendo Power magazine.
@Damo - Do you not get what people are upset about? They don't care that you wrote a guide explaining how to get to a hidden place that would be considered a spoiler. They're upset that you titled the article with the name of the hidden place that can be read from the main Nintendo Life page. I had no idea there even was a Tarrey Town.
And here's a little tip about the website: You can go straight to the comments section from the front page and bypass the article completely. So maybe you should learn how your website works before chastising people for clicking on an article that contains spoilers that they don't want.
Two weeks to a new console, RCMADIAX doesn't have long left to release those free Blok Drop U levels he's promised multiple times and have supposedly been finishing up.
I really can't wait for more of those Blok Drop U levels we were promised back a few years ago. It's not like he would tell us we would get more content just to get people to buy his game, and then pretend it never happened, right?
I'm not really upset about the choices of what we're getting, I was just expecting there to be more than 3 new characters and 2 new stages.
I know it takes time, but that's why I was really hoping for them to bring back Wolf and Snake, characters that already have realized movesets, they just need to be translated over (although I really would have loved for Squirtle, Ivysaur, and Ice Climbers as well to have the complete cast).
And I am very surprised that no more past stages are being made. I would think those would be even easier to bring over than characters. We're missing so many classic stages: Fourside, Kongo Jungle (Melee), Poke' Floats, Fountain of Dreams, Saffron City, Big Blue, Frigate Orpheon, etc.
I love what we're getting, I'm just bummed it's not more. It would be great if the Project M team could find a way to add more characters and stages.
I'm not a big fan of the costumes where the Miis are wearing the heads of the characters, like with Tails, K.K. Slider, Flying Man, and K. Rool. I much prefer where the Miii can become the actual character, such as with Ashley, Gilgamesh, and Takamaru.
I'm also surprised they never made an Ice Climbers or Snake costume.
@VanillaLake - There are demos to check out the physics. They're called Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, and New Super Mario Bros. Wii.
@rjejr - Did you unlock all the stages in the game itself? If you haven't unlocked all the stages yet, then it's possible that your Suzaku and Miiverse stage are sitting on the front page in place of the locked ones. Then once you unlock them, it will push the DLC stages into the second page.
@MIDP - A disc with New Super Mario U and New Super Luigi U was sold as part of a Wii U bundle (at least in North America). But the disc was never sold on its own without a system.
4 Samuses, how odd! ::Goes back to playing an 8-player Samus vs. Samus vs. Samus vs. Samus vs. Samus vs. Samus vs. Samus vs. Samus match in Super Smash Bros.::
For you Steamworld Dig players: I hope you went back to the old cave rooms when you got your upgraded powers. There are some cool secret areas to unlock that you couldn't get to earlier in the game, including an awesome homage to the underground level 1-2 of Super Mario Bros!
@Bushido_Fai I can afford plenty. I'm an adult with a professional job, no student loans, the cars are paid off, etc. I don't say that to brag, but to give you an idea of where I am coming from. I prefer to get a more value for my money than what an Amiibo provides. $13 to unlock a costume that provides no additional gameplay? No thank you. And I'm certainly not looking to put a bunch of figures on a shelf. But maybe that's where others find their value, because they collect or play with them outside the game?. But that also boggles my mind. As a kid in the eighties, my action figures had moving parts and all kinds of attachable weapons. A non-moving figure, especially one that had a big blob of plastic to support it's pose would be very disappointing to me.
I love the way everyone loathes pay-to-play models and options in games, and yet everyone loves Amiibo. There has not yet been a single gameplay option in any game that HAD to have an Amiibo. All the games with unlockable weapons, costumes, hidden Toads, etc. could all have been implemented without needing to buy $13 figures.
I mean, for Mario Kart 8 it cost $12 to purchase 16 new tracks, 6 characters, new vehicles, and alternate colored shy-guys & yoshis, yet another $130 worth of figures to unlock 10 costumes that offers absolutely nothign gameplay-wise. Even Smash Bros. could have just let you put your characters on an SD card (which are much cheaper and can hold more information) that a figure that allows a max of one custom character.
This whole Amiibo craze is just ridiculously priced DLC (as is Skylanders and Disney Infinity) and everyone just loves it. It completely boggled my mind when Skylanders became huge as everyone paid ridiculous amounts of money for what is basically on-disc content. This whole craze is awful. It's making Nintendo a ton of money, but it's certainly keeping me away. I have way more things I want to spend my money on than expensive little toys that unlock the most basic and mostly unnecessary gameplay options.
Did we not get the new Zen Pinball tables? Or is this just another case of the report not mentioning it?
I know there have been weeks when Europe had Zen Pinball table discounts, and it wasn't mentioned in the NA report, but they were still available in the NA eShop.
I think people are upset for the reason given. This is a perfectly working character on the Wii U that is being removed purely because of a completely different game on a completely different system. They can have different modes, different stages, different music, but because one system can't handle a character, the other loses out.
I just don't understand why some people think having less characters is better than having more.
It sucks that they couldn't get the Ice Climbers to work in the 3DS version, so the Wii U can't have them either. I also wonder if that's why they cut transformations out completely (Samus, Zelda, Pokemon Trainer). Maybe they weren't working well on the 3DS, so that's why they were all separated out as their own characters.
As for anyone missing, we can only hope the leaked roster picture wasn't a complete roster, so maybe Lucas, Wolf, and others still have a chance to be in there somewhere. Barring that, there's always the hope to bring them back with future DLC.
Not so sure you can call The Legend of Zelda as Impa's first appearance. She was mentioned and drawn in the instruction manuals for The Legend of Zelda and Adventure of Link, but is never seen or mentioned in the actual games. Her first actual game appearance was Ocarina of Time.
I'm not buying anymore tables from them at all for full price. If they have another sale for half price, then I will look at picking up some more tables. They still need to fix the glitches and problems that have been around for over a year now before I'll be spending full price on anything else.
No obligation to support the Wii U any further? They most certainly do. When their scoreboards have problems, and you can't even run the tournaments that they themselves advertised as a selling point, then they better keep supporting to get these fixes in place. They certainly don't have a problem taking money for the Wii U version, so they better not have a problem with us wanting these problems fixed.
Only 100 levels doesn't make this one worth it. Can't say the original was ever maddeningly difficult though. I beat all 460 levels and my playtime for the game shows just under 7 hours. That's less than a minute per level. The really easy ones take only a few seconds, so the few hardest maybe took 2-3 minutes tops. I was a little disappointed at how easy it all was.
I wonder how this kart will work on the selection screen. Can it have other tires put on, or is it stuck with these? And can these tires be used with other karts? And lastly, will this also include it's own glider?
I'll be on in a couple of hours as DoomTurtle. I'll be none other than the Turtle of Doom himself, Bowser in his sweet ride, the Prancer with Azure Wheels and the Peach Parasol. Oh yeah!
