I would agree that the best one is either Super Metroid or Fusion. I would argue that Super Metroid has the more dynamic world and superior bosses, but Fusion has a better story and is more suspenseful. I also find it more difficult than Super Metroid, but that's neither here nor there.

What I've never understood is the argument that Zero Mission is somehow better than either of them. It's a good remake, sure, but it doesn't come close to reaching the heights of either Super or Fusion in any of the categories I mentioned above.

Went with Waluigi, but I would be happy to see Paper Mario or Alucard as well. (Or someone from Chrono Trigger.)

@Purgatorium Yeah, PS1 is probably my favorite. I still like it even after the negative association of it not loading my games once my console got old

For Nintendo, I'll just be a normie and say GameCube.

I don't know that I could do a single song for that long, but I could with the soundtrack of Chrono Cross or Castlevania SOTN.

Hmm, there's a surprising amount of hate for Extinction on here. I've actually really enjoyed the game, probably moreso than the past two generations of Pokémon. I think the writing can be legitimately funny and the characters feel less stale than those in Pokémon. I also enjoy not already knowing the Nexomon and their evolutions.

@GrailUK Yep, and "alternative rock" going mainstream with Nirvana and the like. The term meant what it says in the '80s when underground bands provided an "alternative" to the hair metal bands of the day.

@b-lay Right, the subtitle relates to the search for the beta, not a push for the game to be ported like the title suggests. It's not a huge deal, but it could mislead one to think that Fujiwara is somehow involved in getting these games ported or hunting towards a future project when he's not. It's just a bit click baity.

@pariah164 Illusion of Gaia is good! Just how good it is may have been enhanced by nostalgia for me as well, but it definitely isn't bad.

I'm just here to say that Zero Mission really wasn't that memorable. Not better than Fusion, and certainly not even close to Super Metroid as reviewers of NL implied. I also take issue with NL saying Fusion didn't bring much new to the table. The suspense in that game is palpable and the story expertly paced. I would argue that it has the best story of any Metroid game.

I appreciate this article. I do think it's a shame they had to have the "reward" of Samus undressing for doing well on the game. A simple face reveal would have sufficed.

I also enjoy articles like this (and the recent LGBT article) because it brings out the haters who I can then ignore, improving my NL experience.

While the "irreparable injury" is a bit daft, I can understand the desire to be the gatekeeper of your own product. The leakers got their just desserts in this case. An expensive mistake, to say the least.

I have a lot that I keep on because I have a decent amount of storage. I generally archive if that runs low. I only delete games if I really don't like them or if there's content I don't agree with that catches me off guard.

Growing up I thought the front artwork for Circle of the Moon showed Nathan with a whip arm (I thought his hand was his bunched up sleeve).

I was probably better as a kid/teenager with some multi-player games, but I'm still passable today. My kids are getting older and more competent at games now, with one being able to hold his own against me in Smash Bros (granted, he practices his craft and I don't, so it makes sense). I'm still the go-to for getting them unstuck in other games, though. Still, I'm primarily a single player gamer and generally get owned by other players when I go online. Not sure what all that makes me overall.

Actually pretty happy about Joe and Mac--it was in my collection growing up, and I was about to hunt the game down again on ebay. I feel like I've at least heard of Spanky's Quest. I'm unfamiliar with the others.

For all those who continue to make the argument that you don't need the vaccine because you're healthy on your own, please remember the following:

It's not all about you. Even if you're asymptomatic, you can spread it to others less healthy than you. And those you spread it to will spread it to others and on and on. You're also protecting those whose health will not permit them to get the vaccine.

If you're in a position to get the shot, please do. Johnson and Johnson has been the only shot to show dangerous side effects in a very small amount of people (as has been explained here already). But there are two other options. The FDA has already approved them for emergency use and a full approval is underway.

I realize this is all common sense, but with all the misinformation circulating, I feel it's helpful to lay these things out from time to time.

@ivory_soul SNL started in 1975, so that wouldn't be the original cast, either. I do agree that the 90's cast was the funniest, and the show introduced such actors as Bill Murray, Jane Curtin, Chris Farley, Will Ferrel, Tina Fey, and on and on. Still, I would agree that it's extra crass and unfunny now.

I liked buying cheap used rentals of games and movies from these stores. (RedBox lets you do this sometimes, but the selection is quite small.) Pretty much half of my N64 collection came from Blockbuster.

This game was my childhood! I'll have to track it down and replay it. I've been bummed to see that none of the recent ones have been great.

My wife will be happy-- she just completed her second playthrough and was saying that she wasn't sure what to get immersed in next. I'll be waiting for all 3 dlc to drop before I jump in again.

In all seriousness, it has been a bit disappointing to see how few games utilize the HD rumble to any noticeable capacity. I feel like Golf Story has used it best so far, and that came out ages ago.

@themightyant Okay, honest question about Final Fantasy Tactics: when does it get good (or even fun)? I ask this because I've tried to get into the game on multiple occasions--starting way back with the PSX version and more recently with the version on the Play store--and I always get bogged down by how clunky and slow it is. I know my problem isn't with the genre, because I absolutely loved Final Fantasy Tactics Advance and A2 (the former being the first game I topped 100 hours in). So what am I not seeing in the original?

As a latecomer to X, I wasn't terribly impressed. It wasn't bad, just okay. Played XII recently and felt the same. (It didn't help that I played Xenoblade Chronicles first, which improved on it in every way.) XV was fun until it just ended. Felt like half a game.

My favorites are still the PS1 games.

Edit: Also, don't understand the love for Zidane. Dude's a perv. Worst part of IX.

@VoidofLight I agree, the character model looks weird. To the point that I don't think I would want to play through the game even if it's good. (Which is a shame, because I love Middle Earth lore.)

Sorry, but Metroid Fusion is far superior to Metroid: Zero Mission (which I remember being underwhelmed by when I beat it in under 3 hours on my first playthrough). It's got atmosphere in spades and sets up a compelling story that was very well executed. It's also downright suspenseful. The mini-review on Fusion is also unnecessarily brutal, making it sound like a lightweight of a game when this is absolutely not the case.

No more games! We enjoy not being able to play a selection of winners, naturally.

I was a bit reticent on picking up Citizens of Earth back in the day, but I did end up enjoying it quite a bit. I've been holding out on the sequel due to some of the issues raised here, but I may take the plunge soon due to this being a combo of the two games and not having the first game on the Switch yet.

Wow. I remember seeing my first 3ds in a FNAC in Avignon at the time. That doesn't feel like 10 years ago.

I loved this game when it came out on the 360. Playing it now, though...it's so slow and basic. Xenoblade Chronicles really raised the bar for me on JRPGs. (Although I still like the PS1 era games, so who knows.)
