I'm another one of those people who just don't enjoy puzzle games that much. As such, I've started both games but never finished them. Happy for those who do enjoy puzzles, though, and get to experience these classics!

Honestly, even though MP is one of my favorite games of all time, both covers are pretty boring. I went with Japan just because there's a bit more going on, but I don't love that one either.

For any doubters, I tried playing this one when I was not in a good mindset and it was too much. I'll have to give it another try when times are less stressful. In short, the heavy content of this game is a real consideration here.

@a_brave_new_geek Ditto Dragon Quest 11 and Xenoblade Chronicles SE. I would also suggest Undertale based on your liking Earthbound.

I liked Hyrule Warriors DE quite a bit more than AoC, but they were both fun. I'm debating which one to get next, so this list will be interesting.

Edit: I was just thinking that Musou games are quite a bit like Lego games for me, as my enjoyment of them is usually tied to how much I like the franchise they're representing.

Can someone explain the tendency for Japanese games and animes to include a random letter at the end of a series title (like the "F" in this one) ? Does it have some meaning in Japanese that's lost in translation?

I was hoping for a bit of an asset improvement from the first one. The first isn't bad, but lacks polish. Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to address that.

I've got both the Deck and the OLED, and the Deck has won me over. Though it can't play everything in my library yet, I know that Valve will be working on this so the compatibility improves over time. I've also invested in Steam games over the years because (a.) I knew that even if I changed computers, I would still be able to play my games, and (b.) I imagined that some day there would be a portable option (this came faster than anticipated).

With my Switch, I love the exclusives and the games it plays well. But there's always that nagging feeling that my digital purchases aren't going to be carried over to future iterations. Nintendo's not always being super consumer-friendly doesn't help this worry. Having to settle for lesser versions of some of the more demanding games has also been a bummer.

So though I'll likely be supporting Nintendo in the years to come for their unique experiences, I'm expecting the bulk of my purchases will be going towards Steam from here on out.

@FishyS I'm put off by a lot of RPG Maker games because a lot of them feel generic, but this is one I actually played to completion. It's really well done and has a very touching story.

I'm not even that big of a grookey fan, but this one's quality.

My favorite childhood game! NA for sure, and not just for nostalgia reasons. As others have mentioned, it's surprising how bad Japan's is this time around, as they usually have good artists. And this was an established franchise, too!

With all the metroidvanias coming out, I try to reserve my excitement for only the best ones. This one looks especially promising, so I'll keep it on the radar.

I played the SNES game as a kid and couldn't for the life of me remember what it was until this was announced. I'll definitely be picking it up for old time's sake.

@sketchturner I understand those who are cool with endless metroidvanias coming out, but I would agree that I really only want to make time for the best of the best at this point as well. Still plenty to choose from even with this caveat, though.

I would need it to be a serious upgrade (like, a new generation) to consider upgrading because (a) I bought an OLED after my old Switch petered out, and (b) I'm getting the Steam Deck which will fulfill most of my non-first-party-next-gen-portability needs.

Very tempted by the new Lego game, but I know how quickly they get discounted/updated with dlc, so waiting really is the sensible choice.

West of Loathing is hilarious. And ditto to those who've brought up Golf Story. I actually lol'ed with that one.

I played Chrono Cross first back in the day and played Chrono Trigger when it eventually came to the PS1. Cross still had more of an emotional impact on me with one of my favorite game soundtracks of all time (rivaled only by SotN), while Trigger is just an excellent game overall. I love them both. To those wondering which to play first, the way that the stories are connected doesn't really necessitate an order imo, but others may disagree. The two games have a different vibe. It's like the relationship between Cloverfield and 10 Cloverfield Lane, to give a very off the wall comparison.

Gonna sell some games I'm not into anymore and pick this up for my 4 year old who's been on a recent Kirby kick.

The new songs are okay, but you can't mess with the perfection of the originals.

@HotGoomba Is The Good Dinosaur generally disliked? While not mind-blowing, it was a pleasant enough story in some really pretty settings. Seems solidly mid-tier to me.

@SoManyHaveDied Agreed in that I also liked it better than Dread.

Why can't they make the game look good? Many games on the Gamecube looked better than this. I'm not even a graphics snob, but if you're going to commit to 3d, put some love and polish into it. Here's hoping the final product will greatly improve what's shown here.

Ima just get greedy here and predict Castlevania DS collection + SOTN, a Silksong shadow drop, Metroid Prime collection, and Banjo Tooie on NSO. I only want everything.

So much cringe in these comments. First off, TikTok as a platform neither negates nor promotes expertise because it's just that--a platform that anyone can use. Second, the defending of a fictional character's bad technique is laughable. Lastly, anyone who comes to NL, clicks on an article, and comments to criticize the newsworthiness of said article on the website they voluntarily accessed needs to rethink their life choices. /endrant

I'm not a big multi-player person, so the news of this doesn't do much for me. I'm not here to yuck anyone's yum, though.

I can see why we haven't seen MK9 with MK8 continuing to do as well as it has. Still, Nintendo needs to show some love to the game with at least more DLC, as others have mentioned.

I tried replaying the third one recently and found its knockoff Austin Powers humor very cringeworthy.

It's funny how many commenters have taken this as a personal affront. I often hear about how toxic the Pokémon fan base is, and the inability of so many to enjoy this cool and light-hearted article demonstrates this.

For my part, I think this is really cool and that this would be a great tool for getting designers' creative gears going.

Looking through the whole list, I think Ender Lilies was my personal game of the year on the Switch. Not quite a 10, but a very solid 9.

The Monster Hunter series eluded my attention for quite some time because I got it mixed up with this series.

I would love a remaster. A remake would be cool, too, but only after a remaster.

Like many here, I was excited for the expansion, but I'm noping out of here with those prices.

I'll be upgrading to the white one shortly. My joycons are almost all acting up, so I would rather sell my old Switch and get the new console rather than pay $80 for joycons alone. (I know, I'm part of the problem.)

Coming from an academic standpoint, I kind of get where the companies are coming from here. For instance, while working on a study with multiple people, there comes a point where we need to decide who had contributed enough to be an author and in what order the authors should be presented (based on level of contribution). Sometimes those who don't quite make the cut will be mentioned in the acknowledgments section.

All this to say that it seems reasonable that those listed among full contributors should have contributed a comparable amount to the rest. If not, maybe they need to put those who don't meet that level in a "Special Thanks" section or something to at least have their name officially associated with the project in some way.

I know there's a lot of love for Kingdom Hearts, but as a latecomer to the series, it didn't really do much for me. Happy for those who were wanting this, though.
