Re: L.A. Noire Is The Latest Game To Fall Foul Of The Dreaded "Switch Tax"

Davidv

Finding with a lot of third parties I can get elsewhere now because of the Switch tax (and fact that a few are released later) I'll go elsewhere. Was certainly the case with Rime and Yooka Laylee, think it will be here too. Shame the manufacturing costs impact digital too with them having to match what goes on the store shelves, could easily be convinced to download if it was the same as the other consoles that way.

Re: RiME Will Arrive on Nintendo Switch in November

Davidv

Glad it's finally got a release date, was going to pick it up on Switch but saw it's currently £18 on PS4 so will likely go there. Soundtrack does sound great from what I've heard but I dare say it'll pop up on Bandcamp or something later if I want to buy it.

Re: Persona Q2 is Confirmed for Nintendo 3DS

Davidv

Well that was unexpected, might be interested in this but need to go back and finish the first one at some point before that. Bit of a blowout for Persona spin-offs today as I saw two more rhythm games got announced for PS4/Vita based on 3 and 5.

Re: Cave Story+ Will Be Receiving Classic Graphics in a Free August Update

Davidv

That's a nice addition to go with all the options available with the soundtrack, like some of the others here I'm more excited for the multiplayer update though. I think I should've waited for the EU version but I imported on the cheap anyway from Amazon as I wasn't sure if ours would come with the cd or manual.

Re: Oddworld Creator Lorne Lanning "Has No Faith" In Switch

Davidv

@CreamyDream that's how I read it too, immediately obvious he's not saying that killed him in the literal sense. He's pretty blunt in interviews sometimes and could certainly benefit from choosing his words more carefully but arguably has some points here and is entitled to his opinions even if the more hardcore of the fanbase disagree. He doesn't speak for everyone in his dev team too, it won't stop me buying the Abes Exodus remake as New n' Tasty was great.

Re: It's "A Bit Sad" That Switch Isn't More Powerful, Says THQ Nordic

Davidv

Some quite defensive kneejerk responses here, seems they're not saying it's a bad console just they wish it was more capable which is fair enough really. I'd have preferred that over the portability but hey, hopefully if the popularity continues perhaps third parties will consider producing exclusives for it over having to try and compromise with ports.

Re: The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ Is Finally Getting Its Euro Launch This September

Davidv

Better late than never, eh. Intrigued by what the 'bonus trinkets' might be unless they just mean the stickers /manual. Will likely get this as even though I've got the game on a couple of platforms now there is new content and I don't own a physical copy. Ordered the US copy of Cave Story+ recently as I wasn't sure the European one would get the extras but may cancel that now.

Re: Random: Did PlatinumGames Just Tease Bayonetta For Switch?

Davidv

Obviously take anything like this with a pinch of salt but a port of 1/2 wouldn't be too unrealistic, I'd definitely be interested in 2 especially as I never bought a WiiU. Very much doubt a third game would be Switch exclusive after the re-release of the original on PC did well.

Re: Nintendo Download: 29th June (Europe)

Davidv

Quite tempted by Gonner, do like Roguelikes/lites and it's pretty cheap. Wasn't Binding of Isaac supposed to be out by now? Not in a desperate rush as I've got it on PS4/Vita and 3DS anyhow but may still get it for Switch at some point, especially if Europe gets a version with the manual etc like the US.

Re: Mystery And Horror Adventure The Count Lucanor Is Coming To Switch

Davidv

I had to click on this when I saw 'inspired by Zelda, Silent Hill and Dark Souls', three of my favourite series. Not sure I see the Souls influence (or LoZ for that matter besides being top down) but definitely a hint of Silent Hill in there and the pixel graphics also remind me of Lone Survivor. Looks interesting, will keep an eye on it.

Re: Nintendo Announces Super NES Classic Edition

Davidv

Presumably this is why VC has barely been mentioned recently then. Star Fox 2 is certainly an interesting inclusion (and will make it a real target for scalpers) as is Mario RPG. Definitely more tempted by this then the NES Mini. Hopefully they've learned from the stock issues for this time round...

Re: Reggie Fils-Aimé Defends Nintendo's Indie Support and AM2R Policy

Davidv

@jsty3105 I guess, just obviously it's out now and can still be downloaded (though not directly from the main site) so in terms of 'protecting the IP' and 'shutting down' the project it was kinda ineffective to wait imo. He was transparent enough about the development process for anyone to see it was going to get finished and I'm sure they could've contacted him earlier at the very least before engaging the legal team.

Re: Reggie Fils-Aimé Defends Nintendo's Indie Support and AM2R Policy

Davidv

It's understandable AM2R was hit with a C&D but what I don't get is why they waited so long to do so, surely they knew about it years ago. Don't really see how it was 'kind' of them to let the developer work on it for all this time only to attempt to shut it down so soon after release, if they'd stepped in earlier he could've changed it to a new IP but instead they let him put years into it before going after him. I get they want to protect the IP of course (and it's right to do so) but the timing seemed too much of a coincidence that it was getting more buzz than Federation Force at the time. Also AM2R didn't stop me from buying 2 again on the VC and hasn't stopped me being interested in the Mercury Steam remake, the developer even encouraged fans to buy Metroid VC games. Don't really think he was hurting Nintendo as much as people are suggesting here personally.

Re: Former Metroid Prime Designers Talk About What They Want From A New Metroid Game

Davidv

I don't think the BotW style approach would work particularly well for a Metroid game unless that is limited to the overworld and venturing below the surface retains the tight design the series is known for. I'm sure it's tempting given the success of the Zelda reinvention but I'd rather not see a 'X but like BotW' approach to a load of games now. Kind of like when Deadpool was a hit and loads of rumours popped up of other comic book films possibly going 18 rated to try and follow suit.

Re: The Metroid: Samus Returns Legacy Edition Looks Fabulous

Davidv

This looks pretty good, the steelbook looking like the original GB cart I had back in the day is a nice touch. As someone who will (hopefully) get this though I do still agree with the others that this should be available elsewhere. Region specific special editions shouldn't be a thing. I know Nintendo have to try harder here but that should be more in localising on time etc then exclusives imo.
