The Count Lucanor mixes lush cut-scenes with striking 2D visuals, and has previously been confirmed for release on PlayStation 4, Vita and Xbox One, with physical releases planned for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita.
However, at the recent Gamelab event in Spain, Ratalaika unexpectedly showed off the Switch version:

Once upon a time, there was a poor boy named Hans who lived with his mother near the woods. On his birthday, the boy had no presents nor sweets. He got so upset he decided to leave home for good. Before he left, his mother gave him his grandfather’s cane, some cheese and three pieces of gold. Hans walked into the forest in search of adventure. Soon it was night and the boy was really scared, so he tried to go back. But then, a quaint kobold happened to cross his path and Hans decided to follow him to a castle. The kobold told him he would inherit great wealth if he passed a simple trial… guessing his name. Trapped in the castle, Hans will live a spooky mystery, fantasy and horror adventure to become the new Count Lucanor.

Whoa. Totally will get this. Anyone play the other versions?
"A mix of Zelda, Silent Hill and Dark Souls"
Watches video
Thanks for sourcing!
@SLIGEACH_EIRE that pretty much sums up my feelings too.
I mean, it looks interesting, but it clearly a reach by referencing those other series to try to make a comparison to this game.
Looks like it could maybe be okay...
Wasn't impressed by the gold pooping horse.
Looks interesting
@SLIGEACH_EIRE LOL true same here
Enough with pixels games ... I need real games not this
To be honest I'm starting to get a little tired of all these "retro" indie games, but I'll probably give it a shot.
not a fan of walking sims but maybe...
To be honest, the whole "retro, halfway-between-8-and-16bit style" thing comes off to me as an excuse to not have detailed sprites. There's nothing wrong with using 16-bit graphics, but you still have to put in the effort to make them look nice. That town square scene for instance looks significantly worse than the similar area in Chrono Trigger, released more than 20 years ago.
I like the music and artstyle.Keep these adventure games coming please !
This one looks really interesting to me. I'll be keen to check it out.
People need to not be so negative immediately on seeing these games. I've seen above it being called a walking simulator, which it certainly isn't, and criticising it for the Zelda/silent hill/dark souls . I would say Zelda x silent hill is pretty accurate. It's a creepy little gem, that is certainly worth it's price on steam. It's definitely something different for the switch as well, as there isn't much horror wise available.
Totally thought that was a girl till I read the synopsis.
Seems interesting
Did that donkey poop gold?!??
It seems that every game claims to be dark souls-like these days, but to be honest, to me it just seems they try to hard to copy the atmosphere. I remember when Soul Sacrifice was showed on Vita and everyone was assuring it was a Dark Souls portable experience, when it didn't even look alike gameplay and aesthetic-wise.
"striking 2D visuals"
HAHAHA!
No.
I like the idea of this (a gothic 3D adventure game), but those graphics are killing me. The characters look like something out of ""Shower With Your Dad Simulator," except that didn't even pretend to be anything other than a zero effort meme game.
Also, I don't see any Silent Hill in this.
I'm cool with indie horror games with a retro appearance so long as some effort has been put into them (Lone Survivor, for example, was a very cool game, and you could actually see the Silent Hill influence in that).
Looks right up my street. Kind of game I'd be happy if it's around 5 hours in length.
@bluedogrulez what a gorgeous pup 😍
@HeroponRiki
this is how Retro Art should be handled... Crazy Visuals

I'm not against retro styled games, but the art is awful. Can't they take inspiration from actual works of art. Ffvi, chrono trigger, terranigma. I'm sick of these games looking like poo
Nah, this will get lost in the sea of good games already on switch or coming
Very 8-bit looking but interesting
Owch. Bad trailer, bad! On an unrelated bitgame note, if you haven't played it yet, get Shovel Knight. I finally played it recently and it was awesome! The expansions are good too.
Love the art style of this!
Hmm kind of interested but this raises the point that the switch could do with some horror titles ! But I want something resident evil styled I may still get this too
I've had this on my Steam wishlist for quite a while now. Looks like it could be good.
So maybe I'll pick this up when I get a Switch.
First Breath of the Wild, now this. It's the year of gold poop in video games, lol.
So Commodore 64 ist back in Switch-form now? Neat
Looks interesting.
Seems like a great game that I'm very interested - but something tells me I wouldn't be able to get to the end unless I had a guide of sorts to hand. And I'm not fond of using guides...
@Ralizah Yes, even snes games has better visuals. No excuse to give us this garbage graphics in gameplay though
One of the best retro-styled horror adventures I played in years.
Glad to see it coming to Switch. I replayed the game until I found all 5 endings and all achievements.
The story, setting, characters, puzzles, and music are great. Right from the start and throughout the game you make several decisions that will change your playthrough in minor and major ways. Even though the graphics don't look like much at first glance the game is full of detail, charm, and awesome Studio Ghibli-like anime cutscenes. But beware. It's one of the creepiest games you'll ever play in your life.
I like that the story is losely based on a book that was locked away in a tomb for several hundred years, plus it has mature content and a unique story that Nintendo fans have never experienced before. I bet most of you will love this game.
I don't love the in-game graphics, but a series of solid reviews could persuade me to overlook that. I usually love pixel art, but something about the in-game graphics just rubs me wrong. The cut scene animations have wonderful personality but the in-game art looks extremely generic.
@Vegeta937 Weak trolling dude
EDIT: Nevermind, I misunderstood you, sorry!
Looks like my type of game
@HeroponRiki I totally agree with you but I feel like they balanced it out a bit with some really nice looking animated cutscenes using good pixel art in at least those parts.
I had to click on this when I saw 'inspired by Zelda, Silent Hill and Dark Souls', three of my favourite series. Not sure I see the Souls influence (or LoZ for that matter besides being top down) but definitely a hint of Silent Hill in there and the pixel graphics also remind me of Lone Survivor. Looks interesting, will keep an eye on it.
@AcridSkull : Thanks! He's 13 years old, but we still call him a pup too. He's a great dog.
Looks more like Zelda x Hide'n'Seek but with sufficiently Lovecraftian adversaries to evoke some Silent Hill parallels. But impressive nonetheless.
@bluedogrulez I have a 2 year old, red, long haired mini. She'll always be a pup!
@roy130390 He wasn't trolling. There's a gold poop item in BoTW. He wasn't calling the game bad.
Looks interesting.
@Xaldin Oh, my mistake then, I'll correct it. Thanks.
@roy130390 Haha, no worries. I was really scratching my head on that one like:
"But, but, I was just trying to make a funny..."
@AcridSkull : love the reds! Enjoy her...doxies rule!
Looks cool, at least an indie that has charisma.
I don't understand how can people be happy with **** like Isaac and doubtful about this.
Hope the game is interesting to play. Certainly it is charismatic by this trailer. It's been well received too in steam.
