Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (December 31st)

Haven't had much time to play games over Xmas (in a good way). Someone gifted me Devil May Cry 5 for Ps5 which was nice, I played the game ages ago so it'll be nice returning to it when I get the chance.
I should probably get back to Ringfit Adventure too cos Xmas ..... Or at least go for some very long walks 😅
And then there's my current playthrough of Xenoblade 3 and Pokémon Violet which I've almost finished.

I've really enjoyed X-mas this year. The X stands for Xenoblade 3
Happy New Year and I hope everyone has a joyous 2023 (Now Switch Pro rumours have been laid to rest, the first person to utter Switch 2 gets a slap around the chops!)

Signalis. This is the time of the year where I catch up on the great indies I haven't played in the year because of the holiday sales.

Signalis is my first survival horror game, tank controls and all (they're optional, might I add) and I'm having an amazing time. The atmosphere is top notch, it's incredibly tense, refreshingly puzzle heavy, the enemies are terrifying, the story very interesting, fairly open-ended level design, great aesthetic, great music, and a tough fight for survival.

It's been incredibly fun, and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in survival horror games like the classic Resident Evils and Silent Hill

I’m juggling finishing the Scarlet ‘Dex, Rune Factory 4 Special, and Xenoblade Chronicles 2. I got some games for Christmas, so I’m a little bit overwhelmed at the moment. I’m 60 hours into Xenoblade 2 still, and loving it more than ever. I’ve just arrived at Leftherian Archipelago, but I’ve playing Pokémon the past few days, so I haven’t been able to make much more progress. Filling the Rare Blade affinity charts out is so fun.😆 I still need to do one of the two final Hero Quests in Xenoblade 3 too.😮‍💨

Just completed XC2. Fantastic game and really enjoyed the story. Final Fantasy Crisis Core next. Picked up Baldo cheap. Hear it is good now. Switch Up did a good re-review.

I got a pretty nice game haul. fE3H, finally got groove coaster since it was on sale! Underrated btw. And I got guilty gear strive, I’m actually going to try and get into it, a fighting game, got the ultimate edition as well since that was on sale, wish me luck.

I’ve started life is strange true colours. Bought the physical copy. Been on the back log for some time. I love what I’ve seen so far.

New Year's Eve is usually a family celebration for me, but this one finds me alone (no, for no grim reasons, lest someone should ask), so what's a nerd to do? I've even dragged my PS4 home again for the occasion! There's a saying here that you'll spend the year the way you usher it in, so being busy with the bottomless Fiction well of impressions and memories in the things you like doesn't sound half bad. And not just games either - a few chapters' progress in the book(s) I've been reading and the show(s) I've been watching is on the table, too.

But when it comes to games in particular, I'm hoping to honour all of my platforms. FFXIII, Torchlight and The Witcher on the laptop; Horizon, NFS Payback and Nioh on PS4; thr usual FEH, a bit of Nikke and some finally started Alice Fiction on mobile; Gravity Rush, God Eater and Eternia on Vita; Valentia, Endless Frontier and Etrian Odyssey on 3DS... and then there's the one console to rule them all. The usual suspects like Xenoblades, RF5 and NMS to the frequented or recently dusted-off freemiums like Warframe, Guardian Tales and Gems of War, more of the newer stuff like Cris Tales, As Far As the Eye and Yonder, more of the older stuff like Terraria, Mary Skelter and The Missing... and who knows what else besides and/or somehow instead!😆 Well, this one weekend does extend into Monday here, so these plans may not even sound QUITE as crazy as they typically (and self-consciously) do.

What's guaranteed is a good time and a good mood to ring in the new year in. Like pretty much all of them, 2022 has been nuts in ugly ways and lovely ways alike, but regardless of how you spend this night, the one estimatedly global tradition is to hope for the next 365 days to excel in the latter. Have a fun hobby/holiday weekend, everyone - and a happy new year!

@GrailUK it's still kinda surreal that the most likely thing to shut the fandom up about "Switch Pro" rumours with blackjack and anonymous sources will be a Switch Pro cancellation rumour with blackjack and anonymous sources. But then again, the internet rumour mill has played this card for ages.😄

I'm almost done with Crisis Core, so I'll be finishing that this weekend and probably moving on to Dragon Quest Treasures as my next Switch game. On other platforms, I've got Ara Fell on my Steam Deck... and maybe I'll finally get back to The Quarry on PS5. Who knows?

With having gotten Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and Shin Megami Tensei V for Christmas, I'm going to make the daunting choice of which 100 hour RPG to start first. I think I'll go with Xenoblade Chronicles 3 today, to ring in the new year. I'm hoping it's closer to 1 than 2, but I'm sure I'll enjoy it regardless.

Hades - finally managed to beat the stage 2 boss for the first time. Great game. A little bit of Splatoon 3.

Also playing Spiritfarer on iPad (free on Netflix) - great cozy game for a change of pace.

@GregamanX Trust me, as someone who loves the first Xenoblade Chronicles and is fairly critical of the second (I still like it though, but I do think it's pretty flawed), Xenoblade 3 very much felt like a return to the tighter design of the first game. I love it equally, it's literally a mash of 1 with 2's good parts that improves and adresses the critcisms of 2. In short, you'll probably like it, or you may end up loving it

Got What remains of Edith Finch thanks to the New Year's sale, so I'll be playing that. Also Souldiers! These two sales almost kill my wallet...

Despite it being the worst Sonic game I've ever played I finally completed Sonic Colors Ultimate today after owning it for over a year. Probably be playing Sonic 3 in Origins too over the weekend and Sonic Frontiers on Series X as I'm on a Sonic kick at the moment!

I've owned Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones since I was 14. I'm 32 now. Its time to knock that off!

Nothing has changed from last weekend… still playing through Ni No Kuni, but I must admit I’m starting to tire of it. Don’t get me wrong, the game is great, but I just sort of feel like it’s dragging now. I’ve been peppering in time on Ghost Song to help.

Meanwhile on PC, I've played a little bit of Rescue Rover, a game by Softdisk, in other words, the makers of Keen Dreams, and much of the team was made up of the iD Software boys who also worked on Wolfenstein 3D and the classic DOOM games.

Ever since Gungrave Gore got the full auto update I’ve been playing way more that and replaying some older levels on hard to grind for some upgrades. I wouldn’t call it… great, but it’s pretty fun and looks cool enough!

As for Switch stuff I have the biggest hankering to try to get into Kingdoms of Amular. Keep falling off that one and I really want to give that game a proper chance.

As for me, I’m currently re-playing Lego City Undercover, with my oldest son. I also have Monster Crown on tap, so maybe I’ll finally get around to starting that. Oh, and of course, there is also Devine Knockout via the PS4.

I got Sonic Frontiers and Crisis Core Reunion on PS5 for Christmas so will mainly be playing those this weekend. Already put 13 hours into sonic frontiers and I'm having a blast so far, so much to explore and do.

On switch I will continue with Bayonetta 3, I have mixed feeling about the story of this one but its the gameplay keeping me invested.

And if I get time I will play some more High on life or Somerville on my series S.

I finally beat Chained Echoes (Xbox Series X), and I consider the game to be an absolute masterpiece. It’s one of the best JRPGs I’ve played in a very long time. I have a feeling this will be a game I play annually, probably around the Christmas time.

What I find so fascinating about the game is how there are many characters in the game and many join your party; however, they all have fleshed out backstories and motivations. Hell, even a particular merchant that is an NPC - if you talk to him every new place you visit, you’ll discover his history. Furthermore, their storylines get concluded as well. The fact that one individual made this game blows my mind. I can see why it took seven years to develop. The creator, Matthias Linda, really took his time with the writing and it shows in spades. I can’t wait to see what he does next.

I’m not sure what I want to start next. I have a plethora of games to choose from: Prodeus, Crisis Core Final Fantasy 7 Reunion (say that five times fast), Signalis, and Marvel Midnight Suns. The latter is tempting and calling my name, but we will see. I don’t want to start a super lengthy game because I want my focus to be on the Dead Space remake when it releases.

Been on and off replaying Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies and Thousand-Year Door, might angle to wrap one of those up.

I think all the Christmas prep knocked me out of my game groove. I’m in the middle of vaca now with time to play but just feel a bit paralyzed by the stacks of backlogged games that came in this year!

I think River City Girls 2 will keep me company tonight for the ball drop, but I’m not sure yet which game to main as we begin 2023.

My New Year’s Game Resolution will be to beat Spelunky so I can finally try the sequel.

The final day of 2022! I plan on spending 2023 the same as 2022…living life 1 day at a time and remembering to appreciate my experiences and moments in time!

Currently my wifey is playing BOTW for her 1st time and she’s completely enthralled..it’s been a lot of fun to relive the experience through her. I still think one of its biggest reveals is the fact that Link was dating a fish! Hyrule was very progressive for its time lol! Would his daughter be named Lipha? 🤔

I’ll be ringing in the new year with some exquisite BBQ and gaming with family and friends. Like @nhSnork…I’m just going to try and play as many games as I can lol …as soon as I defeat Time of course! If Covid has taught us anything it’s that the true pandemic is our Backlogs!

I got Metroid Dread a few nights ago. I’ve been having lots of fun with it! I already defeated two EMMIs and the first boss. This game, along with Kaze and the Wild Masks and Persona 5 Royal will be my games as the ball drops tonight. Happy New Year, everyone!

i finished my 100%playtrought of Bayonetta 3 and now i doing the on the same on the expert diffculty, also trying to beat Rodin(he is hard as hell), i finished the game on standard diffculty

I've actually just started Hollow Knight for the first time (I was lucky to find it physical at my Best Buy a few weeks ago). Figured it was time to play this game after I enjoyed the Ori duology and Metroid Dread in 2021 and my itch to play Metroidvanias has never been greater. Also good timing as Silksong will release in 2023.

Started Xenoblade 3 after getting it for Christmas, the first bit is a bit of a drag but once you can do the hero quests it gets a lot better. Also, Nier Automata and Under Night In-Birth arrived in the post today so I might play them if I can drag myself away from XC3.

For singleplayer, I’ve jumped back into Breath of the Wild for Korok hunting. I think I’m finally going to be able to make a final push over the next couple of days to officially finish off the game before Tears of the Kingdom. I may also do another run of Bowser’s Fury as a nice change of pace from Zelda.
For multiplayer, I won’t be able to play anything until Sunday, but my friends and I have been mostly playing Smash Ultimate and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe lately.

Bayonetta 3. Got it for Xmas and I’m absolutely loving it. I still have no idea about the story, all I know is that it’s over the top fun!

No gaming this New Year's Eve...evening as I have visiting family in, but I'll pepper in some of this amazing hobby at other points. I'm halfway through my third and final Ys Origin run on the canon route; The Claw's route is different from the other two in many ways, but it's still Darm Tower. XD I also intend to start the slightly controversial Paper Mario: The Origami King this morning to see what all the fuss is about. I've only played/beaten two PM titles so far - the excellent Super Paper Mario and the sorta decent Color Splash - and also want to knock a shorter RPG out of my backlog. Maybe a bit of Pokemon Go this evening while out and about.

Sports story and Astronite on switch. For xbox, I've been playing RE2 all week, but I made the decision to put it down. It's a high amount of tension, and more so than the original game. Stressed me out a little too much lol. So I moved onto halo infinite campaign.

Bubble Bobble which shadow dropped on the e-shop 😁 nice little surprise before the New Year. Really in a retro mode at a the moment. Also playing Astral Chain again, great game.

Well, I thought I’d be playing GRIS, but instead threw myself a curveball and decided to fire up the original Yooka Laylee. I was suffering from a bit of JRPG exhaustion, and jumping around in a colorful, goofy world was just the remedy I needed before jumping into Xenoblade Chronicles 3 in the new year. I also am trying my hand at Nuclear Throne and a bit more Dead Cells (currently 50+ hours in).

I really am loving it, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is my game of the year, but man, I did not expect Signalis to give it competition at the last minute. I hope you give it a try! It's absolutely worth it in my book, to survival horror fans and newcomers alike

I finished a “good guy” run of Infernax and it was cool. I don’t think I’ve played any other game that is so clearly inspired by Zelda 2. I’ll go back to it for completion soon.

For now I’m playing Inscryption on PS5. I made sure to avoid reading reviews on it. All I knew going in was card game, highly rated, and weird and at the point where I set down my controller, stared at the screen and said, “What the f is going on here?” I was beyond hooked.

Playing ACNH and Pokémon Violet. Finally beat the Elite 4 and champions & some aftergame stuff. Now just have to finish the rest. Am restarting my ACNH island in the New Year. Might also add in some Harvestella too. My New Year Resolution when it comes to games is to branch out more. I play AC all the time and want to start playing other games.

Mostly I’ll be playing the new games I got for Christmas: Pokémon Violet, The DioField Chronicle, Dragon Quest Treasures, Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, and Harvestella! Right now The DioField Chronicle has my attention the most. The story is a bit forgettable but the gameplay loop really is addictive. I’ll also probably continue chapter 9 of Triangle Strategy which is absolutely amazing.

Elden Ring, Mega Man X Collection, Evil Dead: The Game

No gaming for me this weekend. Just friends and family.

@TeaCatherine I don't know if you've played UNDER NIGHT IN-BIRTH before, but, I do recommend you to play and complete Chronicle Mode first. Events of Chronicle Mode takes (and starts from) 11 months before the events of Arcade Mode. But, you can complete Arcade Mode playing as Akatsuki and Eltnum without any problems, because they are guest characters and do not appear in Chronicle Mode. Chronicle Mode plays like a kinetic visual novel(Kinoko Nasu's A Magician's Night, for example). I'm started playing UNDER NIGHT IN-BIRTH from UNDER NIGHT IN-BIRTH Exe:Late[cl-r](latest revision of the game). I guess you were talking about that version. I haven't finished the game yet, but without any doubts I can say that the game is 9/10. Interesting story, characters, gameplay mechanics, good cast of good seiyūs. Also, game's localisation/translation is quite... Well... I gave it a C grade(3/5). RyoRca(game's translator) should do her work better. She's also going to translate game's future sequel, probably, and that bothers me. You need to hear what characters are saying(words, sentences, intonation). Why? Well... She did skipped some words during the translation of dialogues. And, very probably, even full sentences! At the beginning of the game I haven't noticed it, but after a few completed episodes and a few playthroughs of Arcade Mode... I began noticing that. After each run of Arcade Mode and completed episode, it's more and more noticeable... So, be sure to pay attention to what characters are saying and their intonation... Thankfully, I know and remember some Japanese words, so I can notice these things. For example, Waldstein is mistranslation of the name Wallenstein. Yes, Waldstein is also can be right, but not in that case. In rōmaji(?), his name is written as Warenshutain, not Warudoshutain or Warudushutain. I'm think that Wallenstein is named after a military leader Albrecht von Wallenstein. That's my guess. Well... I'm hope that you will enjoy the game. If you will have some questions, feel free to ask me. Or, take a look at the game's Wiki Fandom.

@Vyacheslav333 Jeez, you're really passionate about fighting games, aren't you, that's quite the wall of text. Thanks for the heads up though. I'm trying to get better at fighting games as right now I'm Z rank when it comes to them. So, do you have any advice for a fighting game noob?

@TeaCatherine Haha, yeah, I am fighting games fan, after all. What's about advices, well... Sorry, but I am fighting games noob player as well. My rank is F, probably... I'm usually playing games on easy and/or very easy difficulty levels... Including fighting games. I want to get better in fighting games, and want to get better at playing video games in general, yep...
But, I can try to say some kind of advice... Well, choose your favourite character(-s); try to learn their moveset; try to play as classic archetype character(rushdown, zoner, or grappler); learn game's basic mechanics; and last, take a look at the fighting games' Wikis(Dustloop and Mizuumi). They feature useful information about hitboxes, attacks' damage and etc. That's all what I can say, sorry. Good luck to you.

I’ve gone back to Disney Magical World 2 of all things, which I was playing heavily before Dreamlight Valley came out. Now that I’m up to date on that (for now), it’s time to finish up the last few quests. Pretty addictive game actually, though the missions get grindy towards the end.

When I finish up with that I’ll spend some more time on Dragon Quest Treasures which I got for Christmas and seems great so far, a few hours in.
