We were excited to hear that the long-awaited retro platformer Clive 'N' Wrench would be finally hopping its way to Switch in Europe in February 2023, and we are now pleased to hear that our friends across the pond will be able to experience all of it's 90s-inspired goodness in physical form on the same day.
The game has been in development for a while now. Beginning back in the days of the Wii U, it is fair to say that the 12 years of waiting has been a long one. Fortunately, Numskull is here to confirm that all is still well in the world, and it has even shared a new festive-themed peek at the game in the above trailer - because every platformer needs an ice level!
If you need a little reminder as to what Clive 'N' Wrench is all about, check out the following details and brand new images from Numskull:
A Time-Bending Tale – Your adventure will take your all the way from the prehistoric ice age in Iceceratops, through ancient Egypt in Tempus Tombs, and even all the way through to the Wild West
Space-Defying Locations! – Explore 11 distinct levels each with its own boss battle. Brilliantly crafted platforming paradises full of challenges, collectables and charismatic characters.
Flowing Hare – Years have been spent perfecting the feel and animation of each move in Clive and Wrench’s diverse moveset, tailored for both experienced players and newcomers alike.
A Work of Passion! – A project from sole developer Rob Wass started in 2011, Clive ‘N’ Wrench is a real work of passion from a genuine fan of the genre
Aside from announcing that Clive 'N' Wrench will have physical copies in the US at the same time as it does Europe, Numskull confirmed that the collector's edition will be making its way to the States too, containing a fridge magnet, cards, game manual and the original soundtrack as extras. Well, 'tis the season, after all.
The physical release is now available to pre-order both in Europe and the Americas.
Will you be picking up a copy of Clive 'N' Wrench next year? Let us know in the comments!

I have this on my want list, it looks like it could be a fun little 3D platformer.
Other than the rather generic character designs (why am I playing as the Nesquik bunny?) I've been super excited for this game. Between this, Return to Dream Land DX, and SpongeBob: Cosmic Shake, the beginning of 2023 is already pretty stacked for me.
Heck yes. Cannot wait to play this. I have been randomly checking up on it for a couple years with anticipation.
Looks promising. The name is giving me “Bootleg Ratchet & Clank” vibes though…
This one looks right up my alley
It looks cute, like a cross between Jazz Jackrabbit and Reader Rabbit.
But I'll wait to see some reviews first as this seemed to be in development hell for so long.
Can see inspirations in this from all the best platformers spyro , crash , mario , ratchet & clank , Banjo & kazooie
Wow. It's been a long itme coming, but it does look super elaborate and peppy now!
@ATHFjman18
Wasn't Ratchet & Clank already "Bootleg Banjo-Kazooie" when they first showed up? ^^
Yooka-Laylee tried it and pretty much failed. I am already bias and this one.
Its so hard making a fun non-frustrating 3D platformer these days. Theres a reason why everyone but Nintendo gave up on it. I hope this turns out well.
It looks like fun but those designs/names look like someone made a parody of what 3D platformers want. Anyone else here about "Scrimblo Bimblo, the Lovable Scrunko?" Getting those vibes.
It might be a fun game. Looks kinda uninspiring to me though. I miss Jak and Daxter days (and Ratchet and Clank, PS2 and early PS3 iterations as well). Oh boy - I am old!
Wow look nice, seem to have a Christmas theme to it too but why it choose to miss the holiday release?
This looks fantastic 😍
@SwagaliciousJohnson
Your pessimism is well-justified, though I hope this one surpasses that game in every way, and from the looks of it, it could.
@SwagaliciousJohnson Yooka Laylee failed only because Playtonic are a bunch of disingenuous pandering has-beens that don't know what made Banjo Kazooie so good to begin with. Did you know they gave this dumb excuse as to the reason they never made Banjo-Threeie because they thought there wasn't an audience for it on Xbox... because Grabbed by The Ghoulies didn't sell too well. They then made Nuts and Bolts, talked about how proud they are of the project only to turn around during the Yooka Laylee Kickstarter about how much of a bad idea it was :/
I had this preordered on shop4ca.com for years and then this year they suddenly closed. Not sure if it's possible to get my money back at this point.
So is the Nesquick Bunny and Curious George going on an adventure together, sounds like it could be fun lol
But for real though, I am getting some really strong Banjo-Kazooie vibes from this game, I think I will definitely give this one a try! 😁
Awesome! Thanks for this update. Just got my C.E. preordered at GameStop here in Canada (in case any other Canadians are looking for this as well).
It's got a Christmas themed world and it's coming in February ? oh that's a bummer , how about a demo before Christmas so we can play the Christmas level at Christmas
A good review and I’ll get it
Now this looks like an awesome game!
I can see myself grabbing this.
@Chibi_Manny my thought exactly in character designs; when do Nestle and PBS sue these guys lol jk xD
Are the people that are excited for this being real? Sounds like bot accounts but I know you're real people so it's throwing my brain off lul
@Pod Considering the developers of Ratchet and Clank pioneered the buddy platformer with Spyro. I don't know how much of an influence Banjo had. Probably not much.
@Hungryluma
That's a fair counterpoint. However, the first Banjo-Kazooie released several months prior to the first Spyro the Dragon, and it was MUCH more developed in terms of utilizing the buddy-dynamic for gameplay. So I'd be pretty surprised if Insomniac wasn't taking notes at the time.
@Pod "several months prior" was in the same summer. The buddy dynamic in Spyro was developed enough that Clank ended up being a logical progression from Sparx. Perhaps Insomniac may have taken a couple of cues from banjo later on but considering Spyro was one of the best-selling platformers that gen, Banjo-Kazooie being sole inspiration for a new IP from a studio that has been developing buddy platformers since 1996 is a reach.
@Hungryluma
Same summer was still before, meaning that Banjo Kazooie "pioneered" buddy platformers to the same if not larger degree than Insomniac. I'm not saying the fiurst Spyro was in any way inspired by Banjo Kazooie. But to the public, Banjo did it earlier and better.
Meaning that when people see Ratchet carrying around Clank as a backpack in 2002, only two years after the huge sequel to Banjo Kazooie, people are not in the wrong for making comparisons.
@Pod "Huge sequel"? It sold just half of the lowest-selling entry in the spyro trilogy. And this was after they greatly expanded what Sparx could do.
@Hungryluma
I'm not talking in terms of sales.
