Remember when we reported last year that Australian studio Tantalus - which handled the Wii U port of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess - was working on Switch content? We now know what some of that is, thanks to an interview with Tequila Works, the creator of RiME.
Speaking to IGN, RiME's devs revealed that the Switch port is being outsourced to Tantalus and they're very happy with the progress made so far:
The Nintendo Switch version is being developed by Tantalus, the studio behind the HD version of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. We worked side by side with them to ensure the Nintendo Switch version is absolutely true to the original vision we have for RiME, and they are doing terrific work indeed! We are really enthusiastic about Nintendo Switch and we are immensely happy about releasing RiME on that console, but it's too early to discuss future developments. Let's finish RiME first!
There is still a lot of development to take into consideration, but we're working hard to get the Nintendo Switch version ready for release at the same time as the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC versions in May. We'll have more info to share in the months to come.
Tantalus' CEO Tom Crago previously stated that his company was working on "games" for Switch, so presumably there are other projects in the pipeline, too. How do you feel about this news? Leave a comment to let us know.

I don't know what to think. I loved Tantalus job with TPHD, but now...Rime? This game looks good to me but nothing really exciting or to cheer for. Only time will tell...
YES YES YES YES YES!!!! NEED THIS GAME!!!!
They are also developing the Switch version of Sonic Mania. That's 2 games from our friends down under
They did an excellent job with Twilight Princess HD so I trust them to do RiME justice, with any luck it will launch alongside the other console versions as playing it on the go could be a big selling point!
Also I wonder if Nintendo have trusted any other games for Tantalus to work on, I wouldn't mind a HD Skyward Sword on the Switch 😉
Great to hear.
They did a great job on Mass Effect, Deus Ex and TP on Wii U.
Have nothing but respect for these guys.
Will be getting this asap.
Just make the other game Deus Ex Mankind Divided Director's Cut for Switch please and not Funky Barn 2.
@Untempered-Link Can't wait for Skyward Sword HD! Especially knowing now that the Joy Cons work perfectly using motion controls for the game. Hopefully it will see a release in 2018/2019, as a way to ease the wait for the next true Zelda.
I'm confused- I thougt the Switch was easy for developers to work with? Hiring another studio to port a multiplat game doesn't sound particularly easy to me.
Worrying.
Keeping some of my own Australians employed, I like it.
Hopefully they do a great job with the port.
I was excited for Rime before I found out Tantalus was involved - as long as they do as well without Nintendos supervision - it will be an excellent port.
Not a big fan of TPHD (the original Wii version is better in almost every way imo) but I am really looking forward to Rime nonetheless!
@Oubie yes, but, SS utilised Motion PLUS. Not sure if said Joycons are fitted with this or just the bog-standard Motion.
Could just be me, but of all Switch titles due over launch, this game quite possibly looks the least interesting - particularly with ABOTW launching alongside it. I mean, going toe to toe with Zelda...good luck.
@Equinox @HappyMaskedGuy most likely has to do with the development studio. So close to release and only being a small dev, most likely wouldn't have had the time to port it in time.
Passing it to a studio that's already got a dev kit and more resources (and who has worked with Nintendo) ensures a quality port and fan also produce to release aside the other consoles.
Ease of programming has very little to do in this case.
@Pazuzu666 From my understanding the Joy Cons are far superior than even the Motion Plus technology. Arms and 1, 2 Switch showed some tech that's better than the Motion Plus. We'll have to wait and see, I can't really see the Joy Cons being behind the Motion Plus technology.
This title looks so very promising got my eyes on it .
@Oubie here's hoping.
@GoldenGamer88 How is the Wii version better?
The HD version has better graphics, smoother mechanics, slimmed down Tears of Light quests, amiibo support, Hero Mode, the GamePad quick select, and gyro controls.
@GoldenGamer88 And how dare you call the Wii version of TP "the original"? Obviously the GameCube version is the original
They did a good job with Twilight Princess port so yeah good news, even if the game is too my taste much.
Tantalus is the studio that can bring the 3rd party games to Switch.
I guess nintendo already knows how valuable this studio is for the success of their new console
I didn't understand what all the fuss was about over this game... until I saw that trailer.
It looks fantastic.
@Mega_Yarn_Poochy Graphics are hardly improved, if it wasn't for comparison videos I couldn't even tell the difference, never had any problems with the Tears of Light, too, and I felt the item menu with the Wii controls were a lot faster than managing stuff on the Gamepad. I think graphically TP overall aged way worse than Wind Waker ever did as it tried to be all realistic looking so the remake should have changed a lot more. Well, maybe it's also because I didn't like the Wii (and @Snader GC version ) originals all that much. Way too dark and gloomy for the sake of being adult and serious without featuring dark themes. I know it's a Nintendo game but turning down the light doesn't make a game more serious.
Also, I don't care for amiibo functionality (only for the figurine itself), Hero Mode idc since I play for fun and not for a challenge and between gyro controls and Wii motion controls, I honestly couldn't tell you which one I'd prefer. Overall, it just changed too little for me to play it a second time.
@HappyMaskedGuy,
That's what I was thinking. Sounds bad!
I want this but I doubt I'll get it without there being a retail version.
@GoldenGamer88 But how is the Wii version better "in almost every way" beside your weak point about the menus?
@Mega_Yarn_Poochy Yeah, I gotta correct myself there. The WiiU version is better than the Wii/GC version ... by a little bit. Though I wouldn't recommend a second dip if you already have the originals.
Rime looks great
@HappyMaskedGuy I agree. I am.cautious about the Switch.
Go Tantalus!
I don't want RiME, I want Twilight Princess!!
