I’m just here to say that I LOVE Famiboards and its wholesome community of very decent folks!
@FantasiaWHT the game was completed months before release (Nintendo does this every so often, then waits for the “right” moment to launch when it makes sense for their release schedule; even if you don’t believe the game was completed and sitting there waiting, at the very least is was ready at launch because we know of people who were able to download it from eShop and played it (Nintendo removed the game from their account a few days later).
@justintabs again, it’s very real. I have no idea how it compares to the mock up video you mentioned because I haven’t seen a faked one and didn’t know there was one, but it didn’t differ at all from the videos going around and showing the dev room.
I don’t know many AUS websites besides Vooks but I couldn’t find no mention of the dev room being faked on there, but even then these websites you mention are clearly dead wrong.
Also, dev room is still there and accessible, just with changed dialogue. You can check it yourself in the game.
@Tom-Massey Fingers crossed! It wouldn’t be the first “important” shmup release lately to come out with no online leaderboards :/ I’m a bit worried because that is a huge deal for me (although reading your thoughts on the scoring system being disappointing and underdeveloped make it less enticing to battle on the leaderboards… and I hate when shmups have score farming “cheats/glitches”.
Hopefully they’ll put out a patch or two in the future! But I’ll grab it day 1 anyway, it seems great and looks incredible! Thanks for the review:)
First, it’s telling that you keep saying “PS5” version: There is NO specific PS5 release, lol. It’s just the PS4 version in BC. Considering all the stubbornness you’ve put on display here, you should get your facts straight first.
Also, you’ve heard it here folks, UK = the whole world. And even in the UK it is not cheaper at all, on the contrary it’s more expensive on PS5 at £25 while on Switch it’s £18.
Only if you decide to buy the (awful) DLC (that has nothing on the awesome World Ignition content for Crimson Clover) DLC then it costs 2 quids more on Switch, but on PSN you’re forced to spend more without having a choice. Furthermore, in the US the whole package costs the same, while in EU it’s 1 Euro more. Basically, you’re wrong, but there was no need for the name calling, profanity and meltdown, it’s just videogames mate. This will be my last reply, you don’t deserve another honestly.
@Satan lol the fevered Nintendo fanboy would be me? Hilarious cause I’m usually attacked by such fanboys. Anyway, sure everything I’ve said is easily verified, from the timed exclusivity up to sell numbers that are there for you to check on with financial quarterly reports and straight from the horse’s mouth regarding the choice to focus on Switch and Steam first because of finite resources. On the opposite I see you keep getting your facts wrong, I don’t want to flame, please just inform yourself better, Rolling Gunner is not cheaper on PS5, on the contrary, it is cheaper on the eShop where you can buy it sans the Over Power DLC and base game + DLC costs the same as the PS5 release that is $29.90. For the rest, I mean what are we talking about here exactly? That PS5 games perform better than on Switch with higher res? Well duh, such a discovery! 😂
@Satan has nothing to do with double-dipping and all to do with (paid-for or in exchange for marketing aid) timed exclusivity (GnG, Capcom Arcade Stadium) and with small devs prioritizing their finite resources for platforms (Steam and Switch) where they’ll sell the most. Also, Rolling Gunner on PS5 costs the same ($29.90) as RG+Overpower DLC on Switch (19.90+9.90$), but the DLC is awful anyway and at least on Switch you have a choice of not spending money on it.
Also, you say most people’s choices is to go Ps5 and have we NSW as their second platform, when we literally have plenty of evidence of the contrary, most people who own more than one console and/or PS5+NSW will still prefer to purchase the Switch version when that version is competent and all versions are day and date. We know that because the vast, vast majority of these titles have sold MUCH more on Switch.
Can’t wait to get it as soon as it’s up, but man am I super bummed about the scoring system and no online leaderboards (thanks for mentioning it!) ugh :-/
I applaud your choice here, NL editorial staff, bravo!
The original Wonder Boy (Arcade, SEGA/WESTONE) is one of my favorite games of all time, I waited 5 years for an Arcade Archives release that remained exclusive to Japanese PSN (PS4), finally got the Collection last year (after the awful Wonder Boy Returns and WB Returns Remix+).
Feel deceived, I didn’t care about a physical release but I was pretty bummed to see the Collection doesn’t even offer a paid upgrade/DLC to Anniversary Collection’s content.
Last but not least, to not have any kind of online leaderboards for the score based arcade releases is outrages especially considering the price.
@XenoShaun Ship has sailed for a Papers Please port, iirc the dev has deemed the port too expensive because the Switch does not support the engine it was made with and they’d have to basically remake the game in a different engine.
Anyway, Not Tonight is also pretty great and as similar mechanics, you work as a bouncer in a dystopian post-Brexit England, have to check IDs, immigration cards, terrorists and also sell drugs on the side (beware of undercover cops).
I’m playing 3 Houses at the moment (fifth time the charme, bought day 1 and hopefully this time I’ll make it past hour five LOL) but I wish I had this one instead because I don’t care about the extensive social stuff, much prefer a focus on combat and just a touch of social linking.
Although, I hate how Engage looks artstyle-wise and find the main character’s ridiculous with the “NSW Neon” toothpaste hair, it’s just the wrong kind of “anime” for my tastes. Honestly, my fav is still Path of Radiance, back when Fire Emblem was in my top 3 Nintendo series… I’m glad Awakening saved the series but it took it steered it a bit on the wrong direction afaic.
This is a huge bummer, especially since Blazing Chrome had them, and honestly I legit don’t understand releasing a true retro arcade experience and then skip on something so crucial to this kind of games.
Arcade games are short, as you point out in your review but you should’ve at least commented on the lack of any scoring mechanic whatsoever. See, for many like myself, the replayability comes from achieving 1 CC (1 credit clear) and highscore chasing (versus yourself, your friends or the world).
You get rid of that and the game is gonna be a one-and-done deal of a few hours and lacking such mechanics isn’t going to help elevate the experience and raise the skill ceiling by encouraging strategies; usually those features will shine a light on how much depth an arcade game has below the surface, something you couldn’t grasp before when playing “just” for survival, and it makes you enjoy (and last) arcade games much more.
Sometimes not having online leaderboards is already enough to make me think thrice and hesitant of buying an arcade game, but not even having score mechanics and local leaderboards? Dealbreaker right there. Not holding my breath that they might add it later. I was so looking forward to this release, sigh :-/
My game of December is without a doubt Arcade Archives BUBBLE BOBBLE if we include retro releases. It’s cheatin’ a bit because BB is in my top3 games EVER, it’s just perfect. If we exclude that, INSCRYPTION was fan-tas-tic!
@Lony85 it is, unless it’s multiplayer games like Mario Kart, since each digital purchase can be played at the same time by 2 accounts, while you’d need one cartridge for each Switch.
I really gotta try this game again, because I couldn’t gel with it on Game Pass (I basically use my GPU sub to demo games I want to get on Switch) but I wanna give it another go
@Vyacheslav333 because it’s a great game that made you feel like a ninja-like hanging onto stuff and pulling somersaults, with incredible graphics and boss designs in a time when that was going to turn heads. The huge boost in popularity came with the magnificent Mega Drive (Genesis) port back in the day which was one of the best games on the platform. Also, I don’t find the game that difficult at all, I was rusty at first but after 2/3 hours I could 1 credit it again pretty easily. The Megadrive port is super easy to beat, maybe try that?
Also Chōmakaimura (Super GnG) is p**s easy, so try to beat og GNG arcade or even Ghouls ‘n Ghost, they’re both on Capcom Arcade Stadium!
I’m super glad this is coming out, and I will definitely pick this up but, considering Inin’s usual work for emulated stuff (they’re not M2 you know) the price for the digital edition are crazy. So, I’ll wait for a sale (16,99€ is my sweet spot for this kind of releases (had no problem spending heavy for stuff like Esp Rade Psi but this ain’t it).
Just watch this not even having a proper high score mode with online leaderboards, exactly like AQUARIO and Wonder Boy Collection didn’t.
Hopefully in the future the PS4 JPN exclusive ACA Wonder Boy (Sega’s/Westone’s Wonder Boy arcade game) will make it to the west and ported to Switch, because the Wonder Boy collection doesn’t have online leaderboards
GF’s best game uh? Pj is awesome but it’s no HARMOKNIGHT please port (and give it some score based online leaderboards while at it)!
Also, ugh, AA exclusivity means that if it’ll ever come it’ll be 6 months/1 year from now… IF (even TEMBO was never ported to a Nintendo console and that one’s also great!)
On my radar, I was waiting for a possible Switch port after playing a couple hours (although it honestly has zero resemblance to Lucasarts’ output, but I understand for some that is the only name they are familiar with for point-and-click adventures). Anyway, yay!
@Serpenterror thanks for the reply, but you’re off base with this one, check the posts below yours to understand what I meant. Sega Genesis collection has awful emulation, it has nothing to do with og hardware and its revisions.
@Serpenterror yeah sorry that’s the collection I meant. Stuttering, lag, sound issues, borked music… the emulation has a plethora of issues that would definitely impact my personal enjoyment. :/
NSO still missing MD/GEN secret best game: FLICKY.
I know it’s on the mediocre SEGA GENESIS CLASSICS Collection, I’d rather have it in the NSO since I’m a subscriber.
Also, Combat Cars and Mega Bomberman please.
@Yellowgrenade Selected 1st party games get 30%off a couple times a year. A big Black Friday/CM sale including Nintendo’s games just ended a like 3 weeks ago (EU).
Famicom Detective had never been on sale tho! 30%off wouldn’t even cut it for me (unless it was physical), 50%off would be my personal tipping point.
@shake_zula look again, there are proper links to Gematsu and the article. In fact, you can say NL articles might have their own issues but if there’s one thing the NL staff have always done well and never failed to provide is to give proper credit to og sources. Unless those links weren’t there before (but at least it was swiftly corrected, if that was the case)?
@Ryu_Niiyama it wasn’t about addiction, it was about gambling and ties to the mob (lol). For Pinball, Sharpe (one of the best pinball players and designers of all time) had to demonstrate, by playing a game of pinball how it was a game of skill and not a game of luck.
Everyone saying bad parents and dismissing Epic being at fault, both statements can be true you know? The parents surely have failed intervening to help their kids and at the same time the game can be made to purposefully be addictive, and to children in particular. Nowadays there are many many games built on the same predatory allure and features that casinos and gambling venues/products have, hiring people with tailored toolsets and knowhow on how to build an addictive interaction which is going to be much more effective on the youngest.
@nessisonett you’re trolling right? Why would you even entertain the idea that the players will be flown to the tournament each with a private jet instead of paying for their tickets on commercial airlines? LMAO! do you think the guy’s made of money?
@Stubborn_Monkey actually, the article is right and you got you wrong, Rogen owns one.
Seth Rogen: "I have a PlayChoice-10 in my house, which is like a stand-up Nintendo arcade machine that has 10 classic games like Contra, ExciteBike, Rush’n Attack, Double Dribble and the...[…]”
“Sifu’s smooooth combat” not on Switch it ain’t 😂 @Deepdoop it’s a VERY significant downgrade, in handheld mode it’s even worse, visually the complete lack of any shadow destroyed the comic-book artstyle, while performance is just abysmal, mostly 20/25fps (originally a 60fps game).
Games sold 1.5M digitally in 3 days, debuting with 4.05 Millions total and thus becoming the fastest selling game ever in Japan (Splat3 was previous holder). This is something extraordinary.
And people here were saying Ragnarok would stay 1st for 2/3 weeks and calling me a debbie-downer for stating it wouldn’t even pass Tactis Ogre. PS4+PS5 combined first weeks sales are LESS than GOW 2018 PS4 (46k) despite being on two platforms.
@Not_Soos I have an incredible tip, it’s kinda a secret buuuut… do you guys want to know what I’d do every time I don’t care about something? I move on.
Article not for me? I skip it (Gasp!)
I know it’s really hard to avoid letting the rest of the world know how you DON’T CARE about something, but you can do it too!
@Teksetter Unfortunately those you’ve mentioned are either 3rd party or made by Atari Games and not “Atari”, so different licensing. I mean, no Paperboy, and especially Marble Madness… tho without a trackball I wouldn’t see myself enjoying it anyway.
I wish there were controller-add ons on Switch like there were on NDS, I LOVED playing Arkanoid, Puzzle Bubble, Space Invaders Extreme with the spinner (paddle) controller add-on. Playing Missile Command, Tempest, Breakout and such with a joystick… bleargh.
I have to say that the COMPLETE lack of shadows is pretty jarring, especially for an 3rd person action game, gives a bad disconnect between the game world and its characters.
Too bad they had to get rid of all of them and still the game has significant framerate issues in portable mode. I wonder if it hits 720p in portable mode because I’d personally prefer a softier 600p but locked 30fps, bare minimum for an action game like SIFU.
Hopefully there are is a patch coming to improve on the game’s performance.
Do the people above realize NSO doesn’t have 110 Million SUBSCRIBERS? It’s at around 35/38M subs (last number was 32M about a year ago), a far cry from 110M.
So, NO, it wasn’t downloaded from “just” 10% of people who could’ve done so. More around 25%.

Actually it’s been 4 years since it was announced to the public that it was restarted, which means it happened a good while before that.

Re: Smash World Tour Announces Cancellation After Notice From Nintendo
@KindofaBigDeal omg a sensible comment on a NL’s story/news, I almost have faith in humanity again
Re: Sifu Fall Title Update To Add Replay Editor, New Skins And More
“Sifu’s smooooth combat” not on Switch it ain’t 😂
@Deepdoop it’s a VERY significant downgrade, in handheld mode it’s even worse, visually the complete lack of any shadow destroyed the comic-book artstyle, while performance is just abysmal, mostly 20/25fps (originally a 60fps game).
Re: Random: No, Famicom Disk System Games Can't Be Used For Public Transport Payment
@KateGray like clockwork, every freakin’ time, people are forced at gunpoint to click and read every article, didn’t you know?
@vexx234 because they are annoying people who love to complain about literally everything that isn’t specifically aimed at them.
Re: Japanese Charts: Pokémon Scarlet And Violet Dominate With Over 2.5 Million Units Sold
Games sold 1.5M digitally in 3 days, debuting with 4.05 Millions total and thus becoming the fastest selling game ever in Japan (Splat3 was previous holder). This is something extraordinary.
Re: Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Surpass 10 Million Sales In First Three Days, Setting New Nintendo Record
Unreal.
4 Million+ just in Japan where it became the fastest selling game ever, smashing Splatoon 3’s record that was already unbelievable.
Re: Japanese Charts: Tactics Ogre Debuts Strong, Outselling God Of War: Ragnarok
Re: Pokémon Scarlet And Violet Join The 3D Video Game Billboard Trend In Japan
So cool. These are really well done, and I gotta say pretty hype even for me that I barely care about S/V
Re: Pokémon Scarlet And Violet Join The 3D Video Game Billboard Trend In Japan
@Not_Soos I have an incredible tip, it’s kinda a secret buuuut… do you guys want to know what I’d do every time I don’t care about something? I move on.
Article not for me? I skip it (Gasp!)
I know it’s really hard to avoid letting the rest of the world know how you DON’T CARE about something, but you can do it too!
Re: Review: Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration - A Painstaking Love Letter To Gaming's Pioneers
Re: Review: Sifu - Sloclap's Kung-Fu Epic Revives Itself On Switch
I have to say that the COMPLETE lack of shadows is pretty jarring, especially for an 3rd person action game, gives a bad disconnect between the game world and its characters.
Too bad they had to get rid of all of them and still the game has significant framerate issues in portable mode. I wonder if it hits 720p in portable mode because I’d personally prefer a softier 600p but locked 30fps, bare minimum for an action game like SIFU.
Hopefully there are is a patch coming to improve on the game’s performance.
Re: Switch Online Title Pac-Man 99 Reaches 9 Million Downloads, DLC Sale To Celebrate
