I love the game, and although they left it unfinished missing 2 whole worlds from the map, still I much prefer it to Runner3. However, knowing how busted Runner 3’s framerate was for months on end until they finally patched it, and that if I had waited instead of getting it day1 I would have saved 50% off what I had paid, I will 100% wait reliable impressions on performance
@Znake you’re kidding right? Dread is on MercurySteam’s internal engine (Mercury Engine) while POP is on Unity, apples to oranges. And in what made-up fantasy would a dev/pub lend their own engine they’ve been building on from the past 10 years to another dev/pub… this ain’t Kojima getting Decima from GG to build a Sony published exclusive.
My experience with Visco collection doesn't reflect at all that of this review, in my experience lag is quite awful especially for some games. Feels like ice-skating, most games you immediately feel something is way off. Luckily, Neo Drift Out it's mostly ok because it was never super responsive and it feels comparable to the arcade MVS' experience imo. But hopefully a patch is coming. Or maybe I'm wrong, let's see if someone does proper lag testing. As it is, I wouldn’t recommend it, in MY experience. Also I understand the licensing issues ($$$) but dang the new stripped-out sprites for the cars in Neo Drift (once a Celica, Impreza, and Lancer) are sooooo bad. Could’ve made it a bit better imo.
@ShonenJump121 it’s not really similar to other collection, because here the only things on the cart are MG (not MGS!) and MG2, that’s it. I heard that other consoles also basically have download links in them for all MGS games, if true that’s absurd.
The fact that MGS2’s framerate on Switch doesn’t even match to the PS2 original, or the PSVita (mostly 60, some of it at 30) release, let alone the PS3/X360 collection, can’t be excused
Go to the eShop and buy Nintendo Voucher.
Redeem 1 ticket on Mario Wonder.
Leave 1 ticket for another Nintendo release. = PROFIT!
Comes off as less than 35€ (30£ / 37 USD) per game. It would’ve been even more of an incredibile deal if I hadn’t bought TOTK already.
Or straight up get 6500 ¥ of eShop credit off Amazon.jp and use it on Mario Wonder (40.50€ / 35.50£ / 43 USD). This way you won’t even need to use a different account on Switch, since the game costs exactly 6500¥ you’ll be able to top-up only that credit and use it all (you can’t switch eShop region when you have credit left in your wallet).
Awful take. It’s a different world now, it is expected, it absolutely needs it to leverage its predecessor’s success, and it will have it, zero doubts on that.
@Tirza it’s mentioned in the article., translated via Google. And it’s not a machine translated “piece”, it’s a machine translated Twitter/X post, that’s it. So no, it’s not unprofessional in the least. @RetroGames oh, you’re one of those people, ugh. Stop using lazy to refer to something you don’t like and expand your vocabulary, it’s so freakin disrespectful, there is nothing lazy about game development and definitely not this project.
@Paraka not really, because this entry doesn’t exclude others being in dev, Nintendo was never going to come out with a big budget new game in the series at this point. F-Zero 99 is absolutely FANTASTIC, it just pains me to think this game might disappear in a year or so. We’re probably going to see a GX remaster DX soon, Nintendo is clearly not done with Gamecube’s remakes/remasters. Sure, I’d prefer an entirely new game with new tracks, and hopefully that’s on the horizon.
Yes, I would have paid double to have Prince of Persia included even sans remake but with every version ever released (or close, since there’s actually dozens lol) and the same extras and care Karateka’s material has gotten).
Damn, now I want [i]this[i] version instead! Sigh, Ubisoft sitting on a mountain of legendary videogame content that they’re doing nothing with. At least most others put out retro collections, but Ubisoft? Nada basically.
@Serpenterror you don’t know what you’re talking about mate. Sorry, inform yourself better because you’re just putting misinformation and nonsense out here.
The media (DVD) dictating the framerate of games and what a console can reproduce it’s some crazy theory haha
Btw, all consoles from Pong till PS5 can output games at 60fps (XSX/PS5 can output at up to 120 fps, and it’s the first time a console is able to do that, bar some that were castrated in their PAL version and thus could only output at 50 fps maximum (and 50Hz) unless modded or using an accessory to play JPN/USA ntsc imports.
The MGS games’ framerate is as such:
MGS on PS1: 30 fps
MGS on Switch: 30 fps
(Bonus) MGS Twin Snakes on Gamecube: 60 fps
MGS 2 on PS2: 60 fps
MGS 2 on Switch: 30 fps
MGS 2 on PS Vita: 60 fps indoor / 30 fps outdoor
MGS 2 on X360/PS3: 60 fps
MGS 3 on PS2: 30 fps
MGS 3 on PS Vita: 30 fps
MGS 3 on X360/PS3: 60 fps
MGS 3 on Switch: 30 fps
MGS 1/2/3 on PS4/PS5/XB1/XS: 60fps
It’s frankly unacceptable and I delisted the Switch releases from my wishlist, sadly. But I won’t reward Konami for this sh**show and will stick to the HD Collection I own on PS3 for now.
@CharlieGirl Those were published by SEGA and priced accordingly by them not M2 which were hired as gamedev (like for the Konami collections and many others), this is published by M2 themselves, and it’s also going to sell a fraction of SEGA’s releases (well probably not Ichidant-R lol), and has much more content. Apples and oranges really, but yes the SEGA Ages/3D Classics games were really fairly priced and great versions of the included games, Out-Run especially. Too bad they weren’t deemed successful enough by SEGA to release more titles, I wish Super Hang-On had at least made it in
I appreciate the work Tom, because this would have been an excellent review but that mistake is too crucial as it is very off-putting for a reader considering the purchase, you really need to fix it asap with the correct info. As is it’s misleading and a bit unfair to M2, because in reality the physical includes everything, not only DW (in 3 versions) but all the home ports too. The digital version is 40%off the price of the physical, and extras come as DLC. I appreciate that M2 gaves us the option to pay just for the arcade releases because not everyone is interested in playing the home ports. Heck, I wish Tiger-Heli and FS had this kind of cheaper digital releases
Text in the news “there has been NO remastering for this release!”
Trailer above at 1’29” “IMPROVED GRAPHICS, UI and tailor made controls”. Err, that’s exactly what a remaster is, guys and gals at NL.
@Bunkerneath are you serious? Because if you are… to put it lightly, let’s say your take is way more silly than all of us people who might buy Gothic Classic.
@CairiB it’s crazy that Parasol Stars is called depending on the region/hardware, both “The Story of Rainbow Islands 2” and “The Story of Bubble Bobble 3”. But then Bubble Memories is also called “The Story of Bubble Bobble 3”! 🤔🤓
@NESlover85 it’s the best version by far and honestly I wouldn’t have bought it otherwise, it’d be cool having as en extra the Amiga’s and others soundtracks but with licensing I doubt it…
The title of the news seems a bit misleading to me? I was expecting a new game or enhanced og game a la Tengo Project’s Wild Guns / Ninjawarriors.
They’re releasing the og game emulated on modern platforms Then they tease something, might be a sequel (to Parasol Stars, not to BB4 aka Bubble Symphony)
Wait, no digital release? Haven’t grabbed it off JPN eShop simply because it became impossible for me to find decent prices for JPN eShop credit anymore (minimum of +10$ mark up) and Amazon Japan is now blocking my digital cards purchases despite making an account with japanese address etc.
@WaveBoy sorry but you have it totally backwards. If there is ONE genre where every frame of lag counts, it’s shmups. This is not even an opinion, it’s a fact.
@BenoitRen 6 frames of lag are absolutely perceptible, even by casual players (they’ll just say the game controls “ weird/wrong”). Batsugun Saturn Tribute is confirmed to have 6.5 frames of lag on Switch. While lag is always bad, it impacts a shmup way more than, say, a beat ‘em up like some of TMNT collection. This is a genre where reflexes, hitbox, and reaction are the definying aspects of the gameplay controls-wise: you’re going to perform much worse and frustrate you with countless avoidable deaths that are happening only because there’s too much delay (lag) between your input and the moment your ship or character moves, meaning the bullets you’d have avoided are going to kill you instead. It feels awful and frustrating, no matter how casually you play and if you’re aware of what’s happening and why.
And for reference, up to 4 frames of lag is fine. Even 5 can be “ok”. When you start to go to 6 and beyond things are messy, and 8 is unplayable.
Obviously if someone’s way to play these games is to just credit feed to beat them and never touch ‘em again… who cares about that.
More than 6 frames of lag is not a “minor latency issue” by any means. Especially since the game can run with 2 frames of lag on modded Switch with Retroarch. Considering this release’s asking price, we shouldn’t settle for the bare minimum.
Unless it gets gyro aiming down the line, no buy for me. The controls (at least on Switch) are awful, tried it at a friend’s for 10 minutes and I hated it. Great review btw, these are the kind of useful in-depth impressions we need more of.
It’s still wild to me that this review doesn’t mention the audiovisual side of the game AT ALL. Not even talking details like pixel and framerate, there is no mention of the video part about of a VIDEOgame at all, and you wouldn’t know if there are licensed songs or a an og soundtrack, etc. It’s like if a whole paragraph went missing when you hit “publish” the this review.
Lol it’s already on sale and at 40% off!
45 days or so after release.
What a rip-off, had they’d priced it this much from the beginning I would have purchased it day 1 post-reviews, now I’ll wait for an even bigger price drop instead, just because I can see them doing crazy sales like 70%off soonish
I love KD and enjoyed the first Reroll but man 30fps for this kind of game (and release) is very disappointing and impacts on controls, smoothness, lag... kiiiiiinda important since the whole game is based around movement. I’ll still buy it but dang what a bummer.
Should’ve gone with 900p/600p and an unlocked framerate, so by the time Switch 2 releases the game would run in BC at full 60fps.
Yes I do own other consoles, no I’m not interested in playing the game (and most other games really) in anything but handheld mode.
These all looked pretty great! Basically all of them will make it to the west, but we get an official announcement asap about World of Horror, it looks incredibile.
@Serpenterror way to steal money from devs.
Congratulations. It’s one thing to refund something that you don’t like or doesn’t work, but to cheat them out of a purchase and still plan on completing their game… wow.
@Jireland92 No it’s not and even if it had been there’s been plenty of bad “standards” in the world that have been subverted and changed later; and this issue been brought up plenty before, it seems you weren’t paying attention?
Do I seriously have to explain why the “I’m an X at this X job and don’t get or need a credit to my name for making X” is an idiotic comparison to make? I can’t believe people say it out loud.
@B3RTAY don’t tell me you know nothing about games industry practices, NDAs and how curricula work, because you already did.
Can’t believe you seriously spelled that out and decided to post it anyway, honestly, a tad embarrassing imo. It’s not an ego thing you know. I mean, evidently for you videogames are not art, for me they are. A painter signs his art, as does a sculptor, a cinematographer, make up artist, game play designer, an art director, or what have you, their signatures are in the credits.
You’re a freelance illustrator? I look forward hearing back from you and how it’s all well if an illustration you’ve made gets picked up by another artist, straight up rotoscoped and then embellished with bells and whistles effects, new coloring, and you don’t get any credit for the original art, just the guy who made the “improvements” gets full credit, where the new illustration would literally not exist without your work. Crazy talking, the reasoning here it’s appalling to say the least.
NL comments section is on par with YouTube’s.
It’s a fix, the doors are not “new and much better”, they are very similar (and Zoid not talking about those changes) but they do have messed up alpha channel values (e.g. say that the azure “texture” has alpha at 80% instead of 10%* *made up numbers). To be fair, most alpha effects in the remaster are busted (charge beam too), but that’s MY opinion. Irritating as usual reading kids here extrapolating with the misfired hyperbole shots “it’s unplayable now!”, who said that? Nobody and definitely not Zoid, who praised the amazing work of Retro and Iron Galaxy (among other support studios). Back then the doors in Prime were a really cool tech and artistic achievement, he spent hours and hours refining them because, well, doors are kiiiinda important and omnipresent in Metroid games, you’re going to look at them plenty, and I can understand his disappointment, he’s entitled to point that out. If you say that “doors weren’t visible enough” you clearly didn’t play the game. It’s a simple fix, nothing needs to be remade and Zoid didn’t “ask” for that, only the door’s effect just needs tuning of some transparency values, yet this is somehow offensive to most people here. As usual.
Can’t wait, hopefully as good as Subsurface Circular (Quarantine was also very good but I like Subsurface way more).
Thomas Was Alone is not for me (great voiceover tho!) but Solitaire Conspiracy is also fantastic (if a tad unbalanced -too easy- on first play through).
lol so much crow served around these parts will all the insults Grubb and Nate had to endure from kids who understand very little about how this industry, leaks, announcements work and are moved around constantly. Now enjoy your Game Boy /GBC / Advance games, your Metroid Prime remaster, Baiten Kaitos 1+2 etc… looking forward (not) to the usual comments at the next leak…
It’s a very, very shallow game with paper thin combat. Visuals are the only thing to carry the game but even on superior platforms they are not consistent in quality, character models especially can dip into mediocrity pretty often.
@justintabs mate there’s no big secret to solve here, I linked you a foto upload that has nothing to do with tendog. There was never a mockup/fake video, I don’t know why you’d think that, it took me literally 20 seconds to follow the instructions and enter the game dev room myself so you can verify it for yourself because it’s still there even with the game patched. I assure you, it’s real …and it’s probably the part of the game I enjoyed the most, hahahahah… sigh what a bummer this game was 😭

Go to the eShop and buy Nintendo Voucher.
Redeem 1 ticket on Mario Wonder.

Amazon.es has it for 46EUR, here in Italy it’s 60€ everywhere ugh.

Re: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom amiibo Goes Live On Amazon UK, Pre-Order Now
@Smug43 lol that’s Amazon’s price, way to jump the gun
Re: Review: Blanc - A Perfectly Pleasant Co-op Experience With Gorgeous Visuals
@Serpenterror way to steal money from devs.
Congratulations. It’s one thing to refund something that you don’t like or doesn’t work, but to cheat them out of a purchase and still plan on completing their game… wow.
Re: Review: Blanc - A Perfectly Pleasant Co-op Experience With Gorgeous Visuals
Such a letdown Was really looking forward to it, dang.
Re: Metroid Prime Engineer "Let Down" By Exclusion Of Original Credits In Remaster
@Jireland92 No it’s not and even if it had been there’s been plenty of bad “standards” in the world that have been subverted and changed later; and this issue been brought up plenty before, it seems you weren’t paying attention?
Re: Metroid Prime Engineer "Let Down" By Exclusion Of Original Credits In Remaster
Do I seriously have to explain why the “I’m an X at this X job and don’t get or need a credit to my name for making X” is an idiotic comparison to make? I can’t believe people say it out loud.
Re: Metroid Prime Engineer "Let Down" By Exclusion Of Original Credits In Remaster
Re: Metroid Prime Engineer "Let Down" By Exclusion Of Original Credits In Remaster
Infuriating, so disrespectful.
Imagine Bluepoint leaving out Studio Japan’s credits on Shadow of the Colossus.
Original dev team should always come first in cases like this (not a fundamental remake a la FFVII) and then the remaster team
@B3RTAY No it’s not.
And it’s also how our work gets recognized to be hired for other jobs, plenty of times.
Re: Random: Metroid Prime's OG Engineer Isn't Happy About The Remastered Doors
As usual.
Re: Derezz And Detect In Bithell Games' TRON: Identity, Out On Switch In April
Can’t wait, hopefully as good as Subsurface Circular (Quarantine was also very good but I like Subsurface way more).
Thomas Was Alone is not for me (great voiceover tho!) but Solitaire Conspiracy is also fantastic (if a tad unbalanced -too easy- on first play through).
Re: Round Up: Everything Announced In The February 2023 Nintendo Direct - Every Game Reveal And Trailer
lol so much crow served around these parts will all the insults Grubb and Nate had to endure from kids who understand very little about how this industry, leaks, announcements work and are moved around constantly. Now enjoy your Game Boy /GBC / Advance games, your Metroid Prime remaster, Baiten Kaitos 1+2 etc… looking forward (not) to the usual comments at the next leak…
Re: Exclusive: 'Tiny Thor', A Gorgeous 16-Bit-Style Platformer, Announced For Switch
I mean, Henk Nieborg would probably be among top3 if an imaginary award for Best Pixel Artists Ever was going to be handled.
His latest projects Xeno Crisis and Battle Axe look AMAZING (especially the latter, although XC is the better game and legit great).
On top of that we have LEGENDARY videogame composer/musician Chris Huelsback, wow.
On my watchlist!
Re: Review: Akai Katana Shin - One Of CAVE’s Very Best Horizontal Bullet Hells
@romanista it’s coming https://twitter.com/claricedisc/status/1604820121457131520
It’s going to be 30€ for the digital release, and we don’t know how much for the physical LRG release.
I’m bummed that they got rid of the tutorials but at least I still got my X360 L.E.
Re: Mini Review: Trek To Yomi - Arrestingly Cinematic, But A Trek All The Same
It’s a very, very shallow game with paper thin combat. Visuals are the only thing to carry the game but even on superior platforms they are not consistent in quality, character models especially can dip into mediocrity pretty often.
Re: Sports Story Blocks Access To "Secret Dev Room" In Latest Update (Version 1.0.4)
