@FX102A That's correct. E3 was opened to the public in the beginning. I don't know when exactly they made it industry only.
Now, OMG!!! Why does it have to be this year when the Switch lanches!?!? I would go if it was it for the Switch and the $100 copy of BotW. I can't afford both! 😳😳
Being a "custom" version of the game means that EA is allocatating extra resources to make games for Switch. Which in turn most likely means that this will be the first and last EA title for Switch because EA can't or won't port PS4/ONE versions of their games to the Switch. So they won't spend extra money on making many "custom" versions of their titles.
@OneBagTravel Same here. He's trying so hard to make the series his, that he is ruining the essence of what Zelda is about, and adventure game with RPG elements in which the player can become immerse in the adventure and imagine he/she is the main protagonist.
Everything from Toon Link, to the Minish Cap, to Demise, to the Triple Timeline; are crazy ideas that distort the series, not only aesthetically, but in story as well.
I know that Aonuma has being the Director/Producer of the series for about 10 years or so, but I think he's getting a bit carried away with making the series "his". For starters, his obsession with using cell shaded animation as supposed to realistic graphics. I remember an interview with him after the Wind Wakes came out in which he wondered why people didn't like the art style. Then Skyward Sword with adding even more RPG elements to the gear and potions. Now he's breaking the "Zelda conventions" and removing Zelda staples like the hearts in favor of a good preparation system.
One of the things I loved about the LoZ when I first started playing 20 years ago, is that it was an adventure game with RPG elements. Now, since Aonuma took over, LoZ is becoming more an RPG/Adventure game. If I wanted to play an RPG game, I would grab pokemon or Mass Effect.
Aonuma needs to remember that, even though he is the current series director/producer, he was not the creator and ultimately the creator, most likely (sarcasm) has a better understanding of what Zelda is about.
And don't get me started with the stupid triple timeline!!!!! (another Aonuma creation)
While the portability aspect of the Switch will be render useless by the battery dying, the console itself would still be viable as a home console. So not a total loss.
@buildz @TossedLlama @PsylockeRules World of Goo was amazing and Little Inferno was fun and challenging. However, Human Resources Machine became a very frustrating experience after only a handful of levels.
Starts extremely easy in a tutorial sort of way, but then it goes from easy to extremely hard in 2.5 puzzles. The game demands you solve the puzzles with one specific answer; which it wouldn't be a big deal if it wasn't for the fact that a lot of the puzzles, if not all, can be solved with multiple answers. The game recognizes your effort but demands the puzzle to be solved in one specific way.
Even worse, if you try to use an online guide or playthrough, that won't work either because, apparently, the game generates a different answer to each person. So if I solved the puzzle with answer X, you might need to solve it with Y regardless of how many times you try.
I just discussed something similar to this with a friend of mine. To me, the Switch is a home console and the 3DS is rather viable as portable device as long as Nintendo, and third party companies, keep in releasing games which can be focused on the budget and younger demographics.
So far the Switch has been targetting, based on the trailers, the adolescent and adult deographics. The it is realistic to assume that the 3DS will become the younger children gaming device. Just like the 2DS is now for the 3DS.
Besides, if you really think it over, the Switch is not as portable as the 3DS. So it is more likely for someone to pull out a 3DS out of their pucket, in their daily commute, to play and pass the time; than a Switch out of their backpack/purse/suitcase/etc. during their commutes.
So people are firing at Nintendo for downloading their OWN IP from the internet to sell it? An IP that most likely was pirated from Nintendo in the first place?? Wow, why is this an issue?
As a huge Zelda fan and collector I'll be buying both versions on day one. However, I'm so disappointed they removed features on Wii U to accomodate the Switch. 😳
@Sinton I also rather have physical copies and I try not to buy online only games like Splatoon and Destiny (which I own both) because once the servers are down, your gameplay is over. I like to keep my game collections. I doubt I'll be able to play Destiny or Splatoon 20 years from now like I do still with GoldenEye007 and Wayne Gretski 3D Hockey.
Mitch opened with an interesting point that I've been saying for the last few weeks. The creation of the games, consoles, and the running and maintenance of these services; cost a lot of money! That's why Nintendo prices their consoles and now is in a position to charge money for they're online services.
People never looks at the other side of things and want things their way. Sure we're paying for a game, but Nintendo doesn't get the entire amount of a game. There is so much money spent on the creation of a game that it take tens of thousands of copies sold before the game becomes profitable. I used to work at Wal-Mart and the mark up for videogames was anywhere from 20% to 50% percent! Which means that Wal-Mart would get that much for software and the gaming company, or companies, would split the rest! Only in the consoles, Nintendo would see a 99% return because consoles only have around 2% mark up.
People need to stop the entitled attitude and understand how things work in this this world.
Well, we kind of saw this coming. At least Nintendo games won't be a mandatory 30+/- GB install to play like on XBOX ONE nor will have a forced 30GB+ "update" (DLC) install like CoD games, again,on XBOX ONE.
@Kanbei @GameOtaku Yeah, I did know about the GB line, but I didn't know about the DS. Also, I remember now that the N64 was "region locked" physically by adding a simple plastic tab on the slot where the cartridges went. If you removed the tab, you could play Japanese games on an NA N64.
@Wolfgabe Exactly! I can see PS4/XBOX ONE fanboys being hateful like this, but all these NL subscribers whom it is safe to assume they're Nintendo fans??? Totally ludicrous!!! And don't forge about the comment that said they want the service to be only $40 or he/she won't pay.
First they wanted the Switch price to be $200-$250USD, NOW they want the online service to be only $40!?!? Stingy and haters.
I just want to know the release date so I can pre-order it, the price so I know how much to save, and the launch line-up so I know what to buy. Specifications are not primary to me. All I care is about having fun while playing my games.
@maceng You can't expect Nintendo to sale their new console for the same price as a 3DS XL. Not only Nintendo is not going to undersell their new technology, but also that would affect and possibly kill the 3DS, which, Nintendo has stated they plan to keep.
Also, yeah, the PS360 were cheap with "bigger" HDD capacity when the Ucam out, but they were already 7 years old! If course they are going to be cheaper because by then the technology used in such consoles was almost a decade old.
A $300 USD is a perfectly good price point for the Switch. It might not the full horsepower under the hood that the ONE or 4 have, but (according to some decelopers) it is comparable and easy to port games to it.
People needs to stop being cheap and save the money If they can't afford it right away.
@JLPick MSRP for ONE/PS4 is $300. If they are for $250, most likely, is because those remaining SKU's are from the holiday season or retailers are trying to move out old stock.
If the Switch price is $300, it is quite right and affordable. We can't expect Nintendo to sell new technlogy for cheaper price of 4 y.o. technology. Is simply ludicrous and unrealistic. Also, the New 3DS XL sells for $200, what on Earth makes peole think Nintendo would sell a newly developed console for almost the same price as their portable consoles, which use older and cheaper technology. The switch goes on sale between $200/$250, next thing Nintendo knows, people would start asking for a dramatic price reduction on the 3DS OR it would kill the 3DS all together.
I've been fortunate to attend almost every yearly Zelda concert series and I still consider the 25th anniversary concert the best of them all. Seeing Eiji Aonuma and Koji Kondo live in stage was an unforgettable experience.
@JubilifeRival But isn't a hypothesis after all to make an "educated guess" based on the information at hand?
I can attest that the game has encourage us to walk more somcd we got it. We have two gyms and two pokestops within a block radious in our residential area and we walk to them almost every day. Also I have 6 pokestops right outside work so I always go for walks during my lunch to keep my item bag full and get the daily streaks. 😊
@PlywoodStick @maceng I think you guys are missing the main point I was trying to convey. People, at the time of Wii U release, called the U expensive at $300-$350 when the PS360 were, as you pointed correctly, at $500-$600. People tend to forget rather quickly how more expensive those consoles were.
Now, as for the One/4, they only sold for a $30/$20 profit approximately each respective console. But if you consider the millions of dollars and years of work that go into developing consoles, it is unrealistic to ask of Nintendo to sell at a loss their consoles from day one, which again, they're big part of their income.
There are many business variables involved that people never convey. For instance, we can't compare the XBONE/PS4 prices against the Switch because, even though the prior two are older consoles, the business contracts Nintendo has made with all the logistics of the Switch are New contracts, which naturally will carry a higher price tag for Nintendo. MS and Sony, by now, have had years with their suppliers, this allowing them to renegotiate contracts for a lower, if not steady, business deals.
We never think of all the logistics involved in the business world. We can't simply look at it from a consumer perspective, but we need to look at it from a producer perspective.
@Frosty_09 You linked a good article. Nintendo can't afford selling the Switch at a loss. As aforementioned by me, hardware is part of their main income.
I never thought the Wii U was overpriced at $300-$350 when it launched. Specialy when the other console fanboys and the media criticized Nintendo for that price, but they seemed to have forgotten they payed $400-$500 for their precious consoles (PS360) 7 years before!
People always critics Nintendo for keeping the U at $300 but people then to forget that hardware and software is Nintendo's MAIN source of income. Nintendo is not a conglomerate like SONY and Microsoft that have many more business ventures and their gaming divisions are only a PART, and in Microsoft's case a very small part, of their operational income.
Either way, I'll be there in day one buying a Switch, whether is $250 or $400.
@JHDK You're right. This is the original design first released to the public. As the article memtions, a prototype. Thanks goodness it was changed to the design we all know because this is rather ugly.
Personaly, I really liked the design of the original DS. The DS Lite, to me, it see me cheap (specially the white model), like a toy that would come out of a cereal box, he he.
This odd time is a matter of perspective. For Asia and NA is a good time. Besides, this is a Japanese company so the event time is launch from their time zone. High noon.
I'm going to burn the sacred cow here, but I'm so glad they did away with Toon Link. I love the game's design, setting, and the amazing story; but Toon Link? He's an abomination. Such short, stubby legs and arms; and those oversized eyes!! WTF!?!? And don't get me started on the Darknuts, a dog??? Really!?!? Looks like they grabbed Jonny Bravo's body and changed his head for a Doberman.
Eiji Aonuma is obsessed with cartoon art (Wind Waker, Skyward Sword, Breath of the Wild). The only reason why we got TP is because a lot of people, including myself, felt disappointed by WW after being shown the GCN's tech demo. I remember reading that Aonuma said that he was so surprised by the crowd's reaction of the unveiling of TP. He couldn't understand why people liked it better than WW. Duh!!!
@DanteSolablood If that's the case, about the external battery trigering the extra power mode, then it would be a bad idea because without the extra fan on the dock to cool down the Switch, the console would overheat all the time.
I didn't even bothered watching the video. As Erik said, "But can this shrunk-down version compete with its HD counterpart in the visual arena? Of course not..."
I agree with the hybrid statements. The Switch is not just a home console that can be taken on the go not a portable tablet with the ability to be played on the tv. The Switch is both, a portable game console (for lack of a better term).
I don't mean to beat on the dead horse, but we know why EA stopped supporting the Wii U and it wasn't because sales were poor. So I don't trust EA on all these praising of Nintendo and the Switch. The only way EA can expect from me to believe they truly support and respect Nintendo, as the claim, is by making games for Switch beyond the launch window.
@JHDK 3DS version is better in regard to the updated graphics and interface. However, the original N64 version is the definitive one because there isn't so much "hand-holding" as there is on the 3DS version nor the N64 version is "nerfed" as its 3DS remake.
All that been said, our preferences are subjective.
@Jayronauron I totally agree with you, specially with the vaporeons been buffed. My daughter and were discussing that. One of her vaporeons is a beast the wreaks havoc when we fight gym and now it got buffed about 300 CPs, so it is more powerful. My Snorlax got buffed too, if anything, Snorlax should've been nerfed, not buffed.
@JaxonH I hear you. I own almost all of the games in this list, except Tokyo Mirage and Paper Mario (which I'll add soon to my collection). But I also have Deus Ex and Splinter Cell, among many others, and they definitely should've been added to the list.
This should've been a "30 Games" list, not only 25. 😉

I agree with the hybrid statements. The Switch is not just a home console that can be taken on the go not a portable tablet with the ability to be played on the tv. The Switch is both, a portable game console (for lack of a better term).
Re: EA Reconfirms That A "Major Game" Is In Development For Nintendo Switch
I don't mean to beat on the dead horse, but we know why EA stopped supporting the Wii U and it wasn't because sales were poor. So I don't trust EA on all these praising of Nintendo and the Switch. The only way EA can expect from me to believe they truly support and respect Nintendo, as the claim, is by making games for Switch beyond the launch window.
Re: Nintendo Attractions Confirmed for Universal Studios and Resort Theme Parks

Re: Nintendo Download: 24th November (North America)
@Don I know right? I hate being such a Zelda fan. Here is my money on another Zelda port. LoL!
Re: Nintendo Download: 24th November (North America)
@JHDK 3DS version is better in regard to the updated graphics and interface. However, the original N64 version is the definitive one because there isn't so much "hand-holding" as there is on the 3DS version nor the N64 version is "nerfed" as its 3DS remake.
All that been said, our preferences are subjective.
Re: Niantic is Rebalancing the Combat Power of Some Pokémon in Pokémon GO
@Jayronauron I totally agree with you, specially with the vaporeons been buffed. My daughter and were discussing that. One of her vaporeons is a beast the wreaks havoc when we fight gym and now it got buffed about 300 CPs, so it is more powerful. My Snorlax got buffed too, if anything, Snorlax should've been nerfed, not buffed.
I think Niantic got some of these changes wrong.
Re: Feature: 25 Essential Wii U Retail Games
@JaxonH I hear you. I own almost all of the games in this list, except Tokyo Mirage and Paper Mario (which I'll add soon to my collection). But I also have Deus Ex and Splinter Cell, among many others, and they definitely should've been added to the list.
This should've been a "30 Games" list, not only 25. 😉
