Re: Report Suggests That June Could Be Crucial For Iwata's Future At The Head Of Nintendo

Dark-Link73

The moment Nintendo opens its characters it'll be the day the kill their own portable dominance. Doesn't matter how simple these mobile hanged might be, the only thing the inexperienced consumer will see is $3-$5 Mario game on mobile vs $35-$40 game on 3DS. From their point of view it'll be a no-brainer. It's basic marketing psychology.

Nintendo's investors need to understand that the Wii's success was a console anomaly for Nintendo just as the PS2 was for Sony two generations ago. The Wii U is a regression to the mean just like the PS3 was for Sony.

These investors need to understand as well that, just because Nintendo handheld have been successful and dominant for over 20 years is because Nintendo practically sits on the handheld market by itself. Sure there has been many handhelds released over the years by the competition. However, they haven't been strong enough to dethrone Nintendo yet. One day one will, but not yet.

I hope Nintendo investors come to their senses and keep Iwata at the helm. You are only as strong as the adversity you confront. If the investors succumb to panic in this first storm after their success from the last gen, and decide to scape the "rogue wave" of adversity instead of facing it head on, they'll capsize Nintendo.

If Nintendo is doomed, is not because the Wii U failed Nintendo; is because its own investors failed Nintendo.

Re: Review: Hello Kitty Kruisers (Wii U)

Dark-Link73

This game targets the 4 y.o. to 8 y.o. population. As such, I think this is perfect for those young kids (or drunk adults, lol). As for the price, I don't care if this game was $1 or even free on smartphone, you can't expect the developer to charge the same on a console! Comparing smartphone business environment vs that of console is comparing apples to oranges. There's too many different dynamics and variables between the two business models to expect companies to charge only $1 or $2 for a game on both devices.

I do think $20 is a bit pricey, but $10-$15 would've been a fair price to charge for this game.

Dark-Link73

@Superryanworld So I go from "many of your posts make sense" to "fanboy-conspiracy theorist" after only one post with which you did not agree? Dang! Tough crowd!

You ask if I believe that "...Microsoft cares if Nintendo throws a few games on the vc that are twenty years old?" Let me ask you something before I answer your question: Do YOU believe that a company is going to stop caring about a product they own (Rare OWNS the engine) that has the potential to bring them revenue even if it is 20 years old? Nintendo does, otherwise they wouldn't be releasing all these VC games, and certainly MICROSOFT CARES TOO, otherwise they wouldn't have re-released Perfect Dark on Live after 10 years. Do YOU realize how absurd YOU sound by asking such questions? M$ is a business looking to make money, and if a property can make them money, old or new, THEY'LL CARE.

Listen bud, the business world is not so "vanilla", otherwise companies wouldn't sue reach other out for patents and intellectual rights of properties that are decades old. As for the "conspiracy theory", I love them as much as the next person but I don't embrace them enough to swear and live by them. My theory is just a theory (which I disclosed), backed by some research (links provided), that happen to fit the facts. It's just "food-for-thought".

If you like to think outside the box, take it and analyze it, tweak it if you want. I don't own it. But if you don't like to accept other ideas, that's ok too. Just don't get too worked up about it calling people names and making counter arguments that, within themselves, sound absurd. It's not worth it.

Re: Weirdness: First Zelda, Now Mario And Luigi Make A Cameo In inFAMOUS: Second Son

Dark-Link73

@SunnyShores Ahhh! The PS4 fanboys are coming out of the woodworks now!

Let's see:

  • Screenshots (check)
  • Post them on social networks (check)
  • Video. Ok, you got me there, but what are video capture devices for? (so half of a check)

Listen, besides some of the big third party titles and exclusives, the PS4 doesn't really offer anything I wish the Wii U had. If anything, it'd be..... Nope, I can't think of anything right now. BUT whenever I happen to buy a second console (in a couple of years or so), I'm leaning more toward the PS4 vs the X1. Not because I think the PS4 is better, but because the X1 appeal me less.

Re: Weirdness: First Zelda, Now Mario And Luigi Make A Cameo In inFAMOUS: Second Son

Dark-Link73

@Hy8ogen Yeah no kidding. I don't care how many Wii U's Yamauchi might own, or how much he praises Nintendo now; Sony would never allowed the PS brand be sold to Nintendo. It'd be like publicly admitting "defeat" and saying Nintendo is a better gaming company.

As for buyers of Sony, are you kidding me man? MICROSOFT would be the first in line to buy them! M$ HATES Sony. I remember reading an article about M$ making the XBOX just to bring the PS down. The PS goes, Sony goes down with it.

Re: Game Boy Classic Donkey Kong Land Is Coming To The Japanese 3DS Virtual Console

Dark-Link73

@DestinyMan I can't tell you for sure why the trilogy made it to the VC, I was shocked back in 07 when it happened; but I can tell you that because Rare owns the engine is the reason the trilogy is no longer there.

My best guess is that when Nintendo put the trilogy on VC, they actually came out with an agreement with M$ After all DKC is a Nintendo IP so probably M$ didn't mind getting some money out of it; besides, it's not like Rare would be making a full game for the Wii, it's just a ROM. So when M$ tried to bring GoldenEye 007 to Live, sources close to Rare started that Nintendo and M$ couldn't agree on a deal (GE007 for Love was just going to be a port using Nintendo's code), SO when it came time for Nintendo to renew the license with M$, as vindictive as M$ is, they asked Nintendo for more money and Nintendo said no.

Here is are a couple of links:
On Rare "changing platforms" but still making games for GBA
http://m.ign.com/articles/2002/11/07/rare-still-on-for-gba

And on the possible reason of goldeneye not making it to Live
http://m.ign.com/articles/2002/11/07/rare-still-on-for-gba

As for the theory by some that the Trilogy got removed from VC in anticipation of the Wii U release, I seriously doubt that because Nintendo hasn't removed any other big games from VC, on the contrary, Nintendo is being releasing some of the same titles "double-dipping" the sales on both, Nintendo Wii Shop Channel and the eShop.

Re: Weirdness: First Zelda, Now Mario And Luigi Make A Cameo In inFAMOUS: Second Son

Dark-Link73

@Hy8ogen First of all, such merger would never happen. If SEGA, who probably had less assets than Nintendo when they left the hardware market, never allowed any company to absorb them or merge, I seriously doubt Nintendo would ever make a company merger or buyout with Sony. Sony would be just more of a liability than an asset for Nintendo.

But if talks for such deal would every happen (nothing is impossible in this crazy world) I'm sure Sony would try that. There's just too much competition between those two Japanese giants.

Re: Weirdness: First Zelda, Now Mario And Luigi Make A Cameo In inFAMOUS: Second Son

Dark-Link73

@SkywardLink98 I never said the Wii U was better than PS4, what I'm saying is that for all the flare the PS4 and X1 get, at least this screenshot, doesn't look all that. It looks like a screenshot from a PS360 game.

Btw, do you even own a Wii U and/or any games for it fir that matter? Because the Wii U has some gorgeous games. Just because they don't use a realistic engine like inFamous, it doesn't make them any less beautiful than inFamous. The ones that do use a realistic engine like NFS and Splinter Cell are amazing. How you seen Pikmin?

There's no shame in having ugly first-year games on PS4, it's natural. So relax dude, I'm sure they'll get better.

Re: Weirdness: First Zelda, Now Mario And Luigi Make A Cameo In inFAMOUS: Second Son

Dark-Link73

@MamaLuigi Are you kidding? After the way Sony wanted to make a deal with Nintendo with the CD attachment for the SNES where they (Sony) wanted to keep most of the revenue because it was "their hardware and medium", you are "wishful" for a Sony-Nintendo merger?

Sony would probably try to absorve Nintendo, close the hardware R&D division, and make them a second-party programmer for Sony.

Re: Game Boy Classic Donkey Kong Land Is Coming To The Japanese 3DS Virtual Console

Dark-Link73

@readyletsgo @DestinyMan @readyletsgo @ricklongo @Zalbet @robaLEX

Sorry to burst your bubble guys but that's not going to happen as long as M$ has a console on the market. Rare, and M$ by proxy, own the SNES game engine but not the characters. Doesn't anyone find it peculiar that the only games Rare releases for Nintendo since the buyout are for portable only and the few that got put on console were removed?

Re: Game Boy Classic Donkey Kong Land Is Coming To The Japanese 3DS Virtual Console

Dark-Link73

"This news comes as a surprise considering Rare’s involvement with the original game’s development, and the removal of all three Super Nintendo Donkey Kong Country games from the Wii Virtual Console library in 2012."

Not to me. This only confirms what I've been saying all along: The Wii VC versions of DKC were removed because it was a console and the Rare buyout deal allows Rare to make games for Nintendo handhelds because M$ is not in that market.

This is a good game, I still have the original but I'd consider buying this one from the eShop if it makes it to NA.

Re: New Watch_Dogs Trailer Highlights a Living, Breathing Chicago Game World

Dark-Link73

Who knows what's going with the Wii U version (rhetoric)? After Ubisoft announced the delay of the U version, the following preview didn't show the Wii U. Then when I went to Gamestop and I was told the game was moved forward again, the previews stated showing the Wii U logo again. Now Gamestop told me yesterday that the game is indefinitely delaid again (with Dec 31 as placeholder date), but the new preview still shows the Wii U version along with the rest with the same release date.

I guess we'll know for sure two months from now if we're getting it on time or not.

Re: Feature: Looking at the 3DS Revolution on its Third Birthday

Dark-Link73

I saw what you did there Thomas (perhaps inadvertently) with the cover pic:

You used the 3 DS that features the Tri force for the article that celebrates the handheld's 3 rd anniversary. Bringing emphasis to the three 3's, you created a trio which, in turn, can revolve back to the Triforce, lol. I know, I'm stretching it a little.

Re: Review: Pure Chess (Wii U eShop)

Dark-Link73

So, let me see if I got this right... the game doesn't "refresh" the match to see if your opponent made his/her move; thus one needs to reload the game every time one wants to set if it's our turn? Wow!

I was planning to wait for this game to go on sale before I'd buy it. Now? I don't think I'll buy it at all.

Re: Game Boy Advance Games On The Wii U Virtual Console Are Single Player Only

Dark-Link73

@King47 I don't agree that it is "half donkeyed". If you really look at it, at the core, the Wii U's backward compatibility with the Wii is not much different than the Wii's backward compatibility with the GCN. the Wii's backward compatibility only takes GCN controllers to be able to play GCN games, one cannot use the Wiimote nor the Classic Controller and Pro. People praised Nintendo for their ingenuity in making it possible straight out of the box. Nobody complaint that they could only used "GCN" controllers.

Now, if you look at the GCN games that actually use the Wiimote as input, they are all remakes (Resident Evil 4, Mario Tennis, Pikmin, Metroid Prime, etc.) that took development time in order to map the buttons and other Wii features. So, in reality, you're not asking Nintendo to make the Wii U backward compatible with the Wii, you're are asking Nintendo to REMAKE ALL of the Wii library for the Wii U. That's just ludicrous.

If you feel that Nintendo's backward compatibility effort is so "half donkeyed", why don't we compare it with what Sony and Microsoft are offering on the PS4 and X1 respectively... oh wait, their consoles don't offer any!!!

Re: Preview: Mario Golf: World Tour

Dark-Link73

@Evenmoresteven @Nintenjoe64 Exactly my thoughts in both of your comments! I think Nintendo wasteda golden opportunity on the Wii (and now on U) by not releasing Mario Tennis, Sluggers, and Golf with full (not just simple waggles) Wii Motion Plus support.

To me, doing so would be the most logical course of action.

Re: Industry Veteran Peter Molyneux Warns The Indie Craze "Won't Last"

Dark-Link73

I think he's being realistic. Let's face it people, most (if not all) Indie developers are making games out of their garage/small studio, not because they love being independent; they do it because they feel they are talented and they want the exposure so that one day they can get the opportunity of working our being funded by one of the big ones and make big money.

I don't know if indies will die down because they are a "fad", but if they die down it'll be because they were absorbed or hired btu the big ones and the rest that weren't hired went the way of the dodo. However, I'm sure they'll be others taking their place.

Re: Hardware Classics: SNK Neo Geo Pocket Color

Dark-Link73

If there's one thing that gaming history has taught us is that if consumers aren't ready for innovation and/or change, they'll be reluctant to accept it no matter what.

The Jaguar, Lynx, Game Gear, Dreamcast, Virtual Boy, Nero Geo; are good examples of gaming devices that boasted features and/or technology that was ahead of it's time but are now common part today's gaming culture or are being introduced as "the future of gaming".

Re: Nintendo Passing on PAX East 2014

Dark-Link73

@allav866 Under what rock have you being living? Nintendo has mentioned a few times on Directs Yarn Yoshi, just because they don't shove it down our throats as often as they did DKC:TF and they do MK8, Bayoneta 2, and others; it doesn't mean they "never" talk about it as you claim.

Re: High Voltage Software Developing 3DS Version of Amazing Spider-Man 2

Dark-Link73

The Conduit. Such a personal example of how a voiced character can either make or break a game. One off the things I loved about the game was Michel Ford's voice acting. His voice matched his role as a secret service agent. It seemed believable. The Conduit 2 however, agent Ford was voice by the same actor from the Duke Nukem series, so instead of sounding like a Secret Service agent, he sounds like rugged cowboy who just got off the house and has a severe case of hemorrhoids.

I couldn't get over that. It was so annoying I didn't even finish the first mission. I was disappointed because I really wanted to play the game. I think since I had just finished replaying the Conduit in anticipation of the second game, I couldn't get over the drastic change in voice actors.

That's why when I read comments from people begging to have the LoZ voiced I say "No!" I think voicing Zelda, Ganondorf, and Link in particular; would tarnish the series as we know it.

Re: Crytek Confirms a "CRYENGINE as-a-service" Subscription Model for Small Developers

Dark-Link73

@rjejr I completely empathize with you. I know that Indie developers are the ones really supporting the Wii U right now but I don't feel we need to hear every little news regarding Indie/small developers. Next thing I know we'll have news article about Indie developers sneezing over their Wii U!

Maybe is just me that I'm frustrated with developers doing Wii U support but still story X1 and PS4. Unfortunately for me most Indie games out and coming don't look appealing to me. So I'm stuck with whatever little Nintendo and make third party might offer. To top it off, the latest Assassin's Creed game is not coming out for Wii U.

Re: Unepic Gets a Fresh Update for Wii U

Dark-Link73

Thanks to everyone who gave their opinion of the game. I'm going to get it but I'm going to wait ONLY because I have so many games to finish yet, that it'd be best for me to beat a couple of them before accruing another.

Thanks again!

Re: Pure Chess DLC Will Be Available Day One, And Won't Cost As Much As You Think

Dark-Link73

@arkady77

A. Mercantile - relating to merchants or trading. merchant - a buyer or seller of commodities for profit.
Malpractice -instance of negligence or incompetence on the part of a professional.

You said that the video "does not support the assertion" of being misleading or deceptive; therefore, the developer was NEGLIGENT when he failed to stipulate some of the themes featured in the video required additional purchase. Were SOLD SEPARATELY from the main game. Ergo, "mercantile malpractice". Just because a term has never been used it doesn't there's "no such thing". Thank you for reinforcing my point that the developer is at fault.

B. After paying $10 for the "bare bones" basic set, paying $1.65 for just making my pieces look different and almost $3.00 for a theme, seems a bit overpriced. Specially of the packs, as you stated, are only for cosmetic purposes and nothing else. But that's besides the main argument that the video implies they were included.

I'm not the only that feels this way, others have stated that they thought the game included what was shown in the video and/or that the DLC should've been included since it was done therefor giving a feeling the game sold is incomplete.
