Re: Nintendo of America Launches eShop Indie Website

Dark-Link73

@VincentV I don't know where you got your info (that wasn't the reason disclosed by Ubisoft) but if your time table is correct, then most likely it'll be canceled by then. You're talking a year delay on the least supported console. Ubisoft is not going to spend almost another year of resources to finish the version of the game that is the least likely to give them much returns (if any) to their investment.

After all, as you mentioned, is the version that affects the last amount of people.

Re: Aksys Games Confirms 999: The Novel For iOS

Dark-Link73

@KTT Thanks. I've read carefully the article again and my main confusion derived from the lack of specificity, by the article's writer, in regard to the game from which this novel is inspired. I never thought the article was about the iPhone itself, per say, but about a game bound to be released on iTunes App Store. You see, when the writer mentioned the 999 game that inspired the novel, he never mentioned it was a title previously released on the DS (nor the year in which it was released for that matter) as a point of reference for those, like me, who are not acquainted with the game.

It was a simple and common mistake in which assumptions can interfere with the message conveyed. In this case, as aforementioned, it gave the impression that the article was about just a random game being made for iOS without any real connection to any Nintendo console, or handheld, beyond the mention of the developer's website having advertising for "...DS, 3DS... predecessors..."

My most sincere apologies for the confusion.

Re: Monster Hunter is Ten Years Old Today

Dark-Link73

@SphericalCrusher I agree with you. I'm not am RPG fan but I've logged in close to 100 hours of casual gameplay on MH3U. It is a great game that by now, if it hasn't "taken off", it won't. As an spoiled western consumer I'd rather have a Wii U version of MH4, but I'll buy the 3DS version without question if that's all we get.

We're indeed lucky to get it outside Japan.

Re: Aksys Games Confirms 999: The Novel For iOS

Dark-Link73

@therick112 Oic. Kind of like the "three degrees of separation" word game they have here in States. I bet I can make this video game have five degrees of separation with Kevin Bacon and make him relevant too, lol.

(please don't lynch me, I'm just being facetious )

Re: Aksys Games Confirms 999: The Novel For iOS

Dark-Link73

So Nintendo Life is now covering other "consoles/devices" besides Nintendo's? Just wondering because besides the small difference about the developer's "...official web page advertising the new game also promoting the DS, 3DS and PS Vita predecessors." I don't see what does this article have to do with Nintendo.

Re: Nintendo of America Launches eShop Indie Website

Dark-Link73

It's good to see that as the big dogs of the industry slowly decrease support for the Wii U, Nintendo is slowly increasing its support for the Indie developer. After all they (Indie) are the only ones who seem to have an honest and positive opinion of Nintendo nowadays.

Speaking of decreased support, yesterday I went to my local GameStop to pre-order Watch_Dogs and the manager told me that the Wii U version was pushed forward. I asked him if meant to say "pushed back", and he replied "no, it got pushed forward. The was delayed to July, but now it got pushed forward again to May 27th." After I questioned him again if he was sure it was the Wii U version he showed me the computer screen his computer showed indeed May 27th.

IF true, this can be good or bad. If Ubi lied about the reasons for delaying the game and it is completed, them it is good they are not afraid to compete with MK8 by releasing W_D at the same time. But, if Ubi was telling the truth about the game needing further development and they are just releasing the game on time just because the backlash from a few bratty gamers with immediate gratification issues, then this is bad.

I rather wait for a well tuned up game than a rushed version.

Re: Hardware Classics: Bandai WonderSwan

Dark-Link73

Do you guys notice something about the WonderSwan? It had TWO D-pad controllers. TWO! Just like the VB. Which means that if Mr. Yokoi had been alive and working for Nintendo by the time the 3DS was conceived, it would've had two Circle Pads instead of one.

Re: Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze and Pokémon X & Y the Last Nintendo Games Standing in UK Top 40

Dark-Link73

@CliffordB If you're referring to the XBOX achievement system, with all due respect, that's not even a "proper" achievement system. I mean, come on, you're telling me that getting an achievement for "playing the tutorial" or for "playing level 2" on a game is a "proper" achievement? I hardly consider an achievement doing something you're bound to do eventually by default.

Even things that can be considered achievements, like beating a level in under a specific amount of time or killing an opponent in a particular convoluted way, don't reward the player with anything but a "gamerscore". What can one do with that? Nothing! What does one get from that? Notoriety? As if! In game rewards? Yeah right! Make us feel good about our selves? Please! (if "people" need an achievement to improve their self steem then those "people" need to rethink their lives)

I think that individual achievement systems like on Mario Kart and CoD, or developer-specific like Uplay, are much better achievement systems because reward us with actual in game rewards like points to unlock new gear and exclusive skins (CoD/Uplay), levels (Uplay), and characters/vehicles (MK).

I rather not get a "proper" achievement system if is only going to give me a gamer score without real rewards for something I'm going to do anyway (beat the game).

Re: Electronic Arts CEO Discusses The Company's Plans For Virtual Reality At SXSW

Dark-Link73

A great number of gamers hated motion controls, what makes EA et. al. that those gamers (and others) will embrace VR? Let's be honest, anything that makes this gamers get of the couch in order to game, they detest. Any controller input that feels slightly different than their precious XBOX/Dual Shock controllers, they detest. So, unless they fall into total famboyism and buy the clunky VR headsets just because their precious gaming companies made them, they'll detest VR sets as well.

Re: Soapbox: The Nintendo Wi-Fi Disconnection Reminds Us Why Local Multiplayer Still Matters

Dark-Link73

I bought Battlefield 4 for the 360 for only $25 back on Black Friday, but when I found out it doesn't have local multi I returned it. One reason is because I refuse to pay for online access on my console; but most importantly (maybe because I saw and experienced the beginnings of console gaming), because to me local multi is far more valuable and fulfilling than what online multi will ever be. I rather play local and be with friends and gamily in the same room than play with bunch of strangers that at the end of the say end up being nothing but rude, annoying, hackers, glitch abusers, rage quitters, spoiled rotten brats.

Of course most players (at least on the Nintendo Network) are not like that, but I prefer actual human interaction than speaking through a mic (if that, most people don't).

Re: Video: The Top 20 Wii U Games So Far - Part Two

Dark-Link73

@TheRealThanos When I read your comment through my email, the body of the email didn't show the breaks nor the message to the other person so I thought your entire party was directed to me alone. I was like "wth! What did I say that elicited such response!" It was until I came to write back that I noticed that you wrote the latter part in general and not directed to me (I hope), lol.

But anyway, I'll give the game a try again eventually. I'm focusing first on all the other games I haven't finished.

Re: Video: The Top 20 Wii U Games So Far - Part Two

Dark-Link73

@GuruOfGreatness Funny story behind this one: When it was first announced, I was actually excited about this game. It reminded me of the arcade games from the 80's which I grew up playing. However, when I DLed I was really disappointed of the game. To me, it was just too chaotic and without any coherence, and I grew up playing 80's games, so I've seen my share of chaotic games.

Best Buy had it for $25 on special so I bought it to support Platinum Games. I'll do the same with Bayonetta 2. I bought the first one and it's just too over the top for me.

Re: SNES Classic Super Mario Kart Is Racing To The Wii U Virtual Console This Month

Dark-Link73

@andreoni79 Along with a Billy Bullet T-Shirt and a keychain. Yep! That's the one! OR you get this discount I'd you prefer to DL. OR you get a MK8 Wii Wheel. You guys get plenty of promos from which to choose.

So far here in NA all we might get is blown away by the blue shell, followed by being hit by a red shell, then getting run over by Billy Bullet and finally getting dumped in the lava from being pushed by somebody using Browser. Yes Sir! (I hated when that would happen to me, and it happened rather often too, lol)

Re: Nintendo of Europe Confirms Mario Kart 8 Limited Edition Software Bundle

Dark-Link73

The next time I hear another Euro gamer crying over how we get all the cool stuff in NA, I'm gonna smack them silly! You guys got an awesome bundle with A Link Between Words, all we got was a digital copy of Oracle of Seasons from GameStop; and now this awesome Blue Shell and T-Shirt! Probably all we're getting here in NA (if that) is that lame plastic Wii Wheel. Pffft!!!

Re: Feature: Games That Almost Were - A Look At Cancelled N64 Titles

Dark-Link73

@TwoTheNines I still love mine. I have two N64 consoles along with a 70 game library. All of them still on their original boxes and wrapping. I simply made an incision on the wrapping, by one of the flaps, long enough to open the box and then taped it with scotch tape to secure the wrapping. They look like new after almost 20 years.

Re: The Next Batman Game Is Arkham Knight, And No, There Won't Be A Wii U Version

Dark-Link73

@QuickSilver88 Yeah, that's another thing. I remember when the Wii U name was announced. As you mentioned, Iwata and Reggie stated that they wanted the "core gamer" to return to Nintendo; however, they don't seem to know what the so called core gamer want.

I know I'm going to get a lot of heat for this but, the "core gamer" is a brute who is not interested in innovation beyond better graphics and raw power. The core gamer Nintendo is trying to appeal doesn't want a double screen nor motion controls. Today's core gamer wants a big hard drive, more ram, more than 1080p graphics (even if the human eye might not be able to see much more beyond that), buttons, and dual sticks.

The core gamer is like the American Football fan. If you ask them what they want for the Sunday game, they'll tell you they want beer, chips, and streak. They don't want wine, caviar, and sushi for the game! Sadly, the core gamer is just like that.

Re: The Next Batman Game Is Arkham Knight, And No, There Won't Be A Wii U Version

Dark-Link73

To all of you claiming that it's because the Wii U's lack of power, I am starting to believe that it has nothing to do with the console's power (or lack of) nor even the sales. It's about the console's architecture. Allow me explain my theory.

As you all know (and in case you don't) the Wii U has a different architecture than the PS4 and the X1. The Wii U's architecture is like the PS360 which allowed for all those ports to be released during its first year of release. This allowed developers to create games for all three consoles with minimal variation for the Wii U (let's face it, off tv play and map/gadget display on the Gamepad is not much of a different to work on U vs.the PS360). Unfortunately, what Nintendo didn't count on (or knew but decided to ignore for the sake of having an affordable console) was on the PS4 and X1 using different architectures than their predecessors, thus making it hard (once again) for developers to simply port their games on Wii U.

Today's business model is about making the maximum return with minimal initial investment. The Wii U requires developers to have a dedicated team making games for it. This goes against today's business model. Now, you might say "but the Wii U is not selling, that's why developers aren't making games/DLC for it." That is partially true, however, let's take a look at the last generation of gaming.

The Wii was last generation's undisputed champion with over 100 million units sold in seven years. That's over 14 million consoles a year! Yet, the Wii didn't get the high profile titles like Batman, Assassin's Creed, Mass Effect, and others. Not because the Wii didn't have HD graphics, after all Activision brought the CoD series to Wii without a problem, but because the Wii has a different engine than the PS360. If you think about it, Activision always had Treyarch making the CoD games while IW made the other consoles. That was because Treyarch created the modified CoD engine for Wii on WaW, so it was cheaper for Activision to just have Treyarch do it than IW start from scratch. The other studios/developers didn't want to invest extra money and resources to modify their game engines for the Wii. If Activision did it, there was no reason Ubisoft couldn't bring Assassin's Creed to Wii, or EA bring Mass Effect. It was about the extra time and money used to work separately on Wii vs PS360.

So unless Nintendo starts making consoles with the same architecture as its competitors, Nintendo is always going to be lacking full third party support generation after generation.

Re: Let's Gaze With Admiration At Five New Courses for Mario Kart 8

Dark-Link73

I only voted Toad Harbor because it reminds me of San Francisco where I went on vacation last year. I fell in love with that city. Otherwise you guys need to add a "I can't decide/All of them" voting option because they all look great!

On a different note. Instead of killing their own F-Zero franchise by adding some of its elements to Mario Kart (wall and twisting tracks), Nintendo and Miyamoto need to create the next installment of F-Zero. Both games belong to completely different subgenres of racing games and they can coexist on the same console.

Re: Platinum: Nintendo Has Been The "White Knight" Behind Bayonetta 2's Development

Dark-Link73

"...'Why isn’t on PS4 or Xbox One?’ So then it’s not about buying a piece of hardware, it’s just that you didn’t want it on the Wii U.'... "

I think he nailed it right there. I just bought used the first Bayoneta and even though it was fun, I wasn't to impressed with it. However, even though I'm not rich or have a lot of money to spare, so unless reviews and gamers alike say the game isn't worth it, I'm going to buy this game to support Platinum Games. I like PG and I think is a great developer. I'm going to support them whenever I can. Who knows! I might get into this game.

Re: Video: What Could Super Mario Galaxy Look Like In HD?

Dark-Link73

@Technosphile Which GoldenEye? N64 version or the Wii remake? N64: Not happening as long as M$ owns Rare. Wii: Not happening because it'd be a remake of a remake. This is Nintendo we're taking about here, not CAPCOM, lol! Besides, Activision already made an HD version of the Wii version for PS3 and 360 and it didn't do nearly as good as the Wii version. Activision doesn't even wasn't to make DLC for U, I doubt they'll make an HD remake of their remake.

Re: Video: What Could Super Mario Galaxy Look Like In HD?

Dark-Link73

@ajcismo While you and I would see it as a golden opportunity, many others would see it as Nintendo milking the cow because they are lazy.

I'd love to see SM64, Sunshine, Twilight Princess, MM, all the Prime Trilogy and Other M (YES I went there! LoL!), and many other games remade in HD.

Re: Retro Studios Talks Up Wii U And Has Been Working On A New Title Since November

Dark-Link73

Wait, do Retro it's been done with DKCR:TP since November!?!? So what's with the "...we're delaying DKCTP until February next year to resolve some minor issues..." Or something like that excuse that Iwata gave us on the Nintendo Direct back in October/November?? So Iwata lied to us because he knew they would have another game drought this year and that's why they delayed it!!!!

WTF! Didn't Nintendo learn anything from the near failure experience they had with the 3DS two years ago and the bad first year of the U!?!?

I'm sorry but two AAA titles (by two different studios) in five months is not going to cut it! Iwata's business moves are really going to make of the U the next VB or DC!!!
