Re: Fake Commercial for 'The Nintendo App' Stirs Debate

Dark-Link73

"...eShop purchases into an app are certainly not the worst ideas; after all, in each case it drives consumers back to Nintendo hardware..."

Actually that would be the worst idea from a hardware perspective because, if Nintendo were to make 3DS games available on smartphones, people's mentality would be: "why do I have to buy a $200 piece of hardware (3DS) to play Mario and Zelda if I can play them on my smartphone?"

Emulating full 3DS games into smartphones would hurt the 3DS market of portable gaming. Nintendo's struggles are in the home console market, not the portable market.

Re: 2DS CPU Update Looks Set to Adjust System Security

Dark-Link73

@Meaty-cheeky Is kind of unfair comparing the 3DS to an iPad, it'd be like comparing the gaming capabilities of an iPad vs an Alienware or any high end gaming PC.

It'd be interesting if you could test the 3DS Netflix/YouTube performance on a different wifi. Perhaps a relative's house to see if is your internet or the device.

The internet browser does suck. But I think it was built to rely on mobile sites vs full sites. Go to a website that has mobile versions and you'll see a difference. It isn't much still, but it's better than nothing I suppose.

Re: Nintendo Creating a New Console for Emerging Markets, Including China

Dark-Link73

@PorllM Is just that the way Iwata expressed his idea (or perhaps the way he was quoted in this article) makes it seem that in order for people in middle class to buy Nintendo products, such products need to be affordable to them; and that's why they are coming out with a new line of hardware (It would be difficult to enter those markets if we didn't create something new... For the mass market you need to provide something that most of the middle class can afford).

Therefore, Iwata is saying that Wii U and 3DS might be too expensive for the middle class. Based on that rationale, it seems he has a misconception of middle class around the world. In NA, the approximate salary range for middle class is $50,000 to $100,000USD a year. Clearly NA middle class can afford a Wii U and 3DS.

Instead of saying that they want to make as new line of products "...that most middle class can afford..." he should've said something in the lines of the region as a whole instead of an economic group. Perhaps he should've just stayed away from making any socioeconomic remark.

I'm just thinking from a PR perspective. You know how the press loves to take comments out of context and twist them in a negative way.

Re: 2DS CPU Update Looks Set to Adjust System Security

Dark-Link73

@unrandomsam True, it is too late for the 2/3 million 2DS handheld out in the market now, but when you have the potential of selling tens of millions of 2DS handheld over its lifetime, it's not "too late".

As for your broken DS issue, do they charge you for transferring your games from one 3DS to another?

Re: Pokémon Omega Ruby & Pokémon Alpha Sapphire Confirmed For Worldwide 3DS Launch in November

Dark-Link73

@Starwolf_UK The series has seen annual releases since 2009 in the West (Jp missed 2011). Before that, the prior games were released every 2,2,1,2,1* (this year Europe saw two releases in one year to catch up to NA),1,1 years-basis so the series had mostly being released annually in the West. Japan is the one that has seen the most biannual releases.

I'm not even taking into account the spin-off versions nor the console versions.

Re: Western Markets Vital For Nintendo Hardware Sales as Japan Gains Ground

Dark-Link73

If you look closely at all the console stats, you'll see that (statistically speaking) NA is just within a deviation of the normal percentage range of sales. This means that the NA market is on target of its proportional sales compared to other markets. The European market, on the other hands, has seen a decline of about 15% of proportional sales from the Wii generation.

If there's a market that needs to be targeted is the European market. However, the real focus here should be on targeting ALL markets in order to increase the RAW data. Not just the statistical data.

Re: Hyrule Warriors Set for Summer 2014 Release in Japan, Tecmo Koei Teases Another Major Collaboration

Dark-Link73

@XCWarrior @SilverArrow "Winter 2014" has a very small window because Winter doesn't start until Dec. 21, and since Nintendo usually releases its big titles on Sunday, that means that a "Winter 2014" release would be either on the 21st or the 28th.

I also hope is this year but realistically, probably January or even February because January is a terrible time to sell consoles after everyone is broke from the Christmas season.

Re: Mario Kart Month: Mario Kart 8 Character Profiles: Mo' Babies, Mo' Problems

Dark-Link73

@JakeShapiro I see. Again, nothing to do with the body of the article.

This is the problem, when making a pop culture reference, unless is completely related by being of the same medium as the topic at hand (gaming) OR it is known world wide (Star Wars, Beatles, Spongebob, etc.), it has the inherit issue with being lost or misunderstood by any audience who doesn't have knowledge of such reference.

That's why, when using puns or references on the title of an article, is better to make such pop culture references in the sub heading of the article and in between quotation marks. This implies that the sentence might be a reference ora pun, and not an original thought.

Re: Mario Kart Month: Mario Kart 8 Character Profiles: Mo' Babies, Mo' Problems

Dark-Link73

@midnafanboy If you're referring to my opening statement of Damo's incomplete sentence then yeah, I did think after I posted it that my comment was rather harsh. So @Damo I apologize for that; however, as a editor, I do think you need to be careful about your grammar.

You guys don't realize that, unless there's another Nintendo Life out there, NoA is starting to use your valuable input on their website. Over the weekend I was on Nintendo.com Wii U games page, and on a game (I don't remember which) it said "Nintendo Life says:...." And then a positive comment about the game.

So it is important for the writers and editors to show professionalism when writing articles and comments. Doesn't mater if you are getting paid or simply an unpaid intern. Your opinion and input is valued not only by us, the writer, but also by Nintendo.

Re: Mario Kart Month: Mario Kart 8 Character Profiles: Mo' Babies, Mo' Problems

Dark-Link73

@Damo "You being serious?" You call yourself an editor? Is it really that hard to type three characters more and the space bar to add "Are" to your sentence? (Does this answer your question? LoL!)

Look, the way the headline is written, "Mario Kart Month: Mario Kart 8 Character Profiles: Mo' Babies, Mo' Problems", gives the reader (or at least me) the impression that since they are "more babies, there are more problems." (Provided, of course, that "Mo'" is a slang term for "More").

So when I went to read the article to see why there was "Mo' problems" with "Mo' babies", there wasn't anything in the body off the article that built upon the statement expressed in the headline. Pardon me for I don't have a degree on journalism, but last time I checked, a headline served as an preview statement, a "taste" if you will, of what the article is about.

It's like The Legends of Zelda titles. They all have "LoZ:..." And the a brief sentence on which the story focuses. Since this article is party of a series, it is explained in the part "Mario Kart Month: Mario Kart 8 Character Profiles:..." and "Mo' Babies, Mo' Problems" is supposed to be the emphasis of this article, correct? The article talks about the babie's bios nicely, but fails to explain what is the "problem" with them. Thus generating confusion.

Re: Sleek Metal NES Analogue Nt Now Available for Preorder

Dark-Link73

@Agent721 True. However, Nintendo is both, losing AND gaining from this. Nintendo is gaining from this because it is getting for publicity and exposure for their brand as a whole. But it is losing because, since they're no longer producing NES games, this is incurring in their VC business by giving a second life to the physical copies that can only be obtain via used market, this possibly hurting future VC sales of the same games.

Re: Pokkén Fighters and Pokkén Tournament Trademarks Emerge in Europe

Dark-Link73

@Artwark People have a huge misunderstanding about e3, e3 is NOT fully open to the general public. It's mainly a press-only event. It used to be open to the public many years ago, until the GCN era, but it lost quality and appeal, so it became a press event.

A small sector of the "general public" can still attend if they are 18 and over and party the $500 (2012 price) admission ticket for the full event.

Re: Talking Point: What We Want To See From Nintendo's Next Handheld

Dark-Link73

@Haywired btw, i forgot to comment further. The 2DS is clearly designed for younger kids in mind. I have two kids and they've had DS's since the original. When they were younger, the first thing that would break are the hinges because younger children as not as careful as most adults. By removing the clam shell design on the 2DS, Nintendo made the portable much more sturdy and durable for younger kids.

Re: Talking Point: What We Want To See From Nintendo's Next Handheld

Dark-Link73

@Haywired oh yeah. I forgot in Europe you guys have an age rating for just about any gaming device. In the US the only Nintendo consoles I've seen with a warning age rating are the Virtual Boy and the 3DS family of devices (because of the 3D), and whenever there's an ESRB rating is because there's a game bundled in with the console/handheld.
