Re: Poll: How Many Of You Have Actually Visited 'Minus World' In Super Mario Bros.?

Crillan

I actually discovered the minus worlds on my own. I accidentally passed the place to get to the warp area and was trying desperately to jump up there and made it. I was so shocked I actually wrote in to Nintendo's game support line to see if they were aware of it lol (I was a kid at the time). They replied with instructions on how to do it and included pictures from a copy machine. I was super excited they wrote back.

Re: LEGO Super Mario Officially Unveiled, Features Interactive Mario And Fan-Favourite Characters

Crillan

Man, I'm glad I can form my own opinions about things. I watched the video on Twitter before coming here and thought it looked like an amazing new innovation for Lego. I think it's going to be a really fun set and look forward to which Mario blocks they add in the future.

I come here and read people saying it's ugly and lame etc. I really don't know what people are looking at these days to get these ridiculous opinions about things. It's like people just want to hate on something that isn't exactly what they expected. Learn to enjoy something for what it's worth and life is so much more enjoyable.

Re: GungHo President Says Ninjala Will Be Fun For Players Of All Ages

Crillan

Visually, I see the similarities with Splatoon, but I've played this game at PAX. It's nothing like Splatoon, so it's really not a good comparison. It's a new take on shooters, like Splatoon, but it's still a different type of game. I had a good time playing the game, and I also have a large inflatable bat at home from winning the match. I think it's worth checking out.

Re: Video: Here's How Mortal Kombat 11 On Switch Compares To The PS4 Version

Crillan

@subpopz You misunderstand completely. I'm on your side here. I like the DLC characters. You were saying they were cosmetic and I disagree with that. They're not cosmetic and they're also not micro-transactions. The conversation was about cosmetic micro-transactions, so the DLC characters don't really fit in that conversation. If the in-game micro-transactions are purely cosmetic, then I agree with you completely that they're not a big deal. I also just want to play the game and have matches against my friends. That's what MK is supposed to be about.

Re: Video: Here's How Mortal Kombat 11 On Switch Compares To The PS4 Version

Crillan

@majkti This is not the definition of micro-transactions. This is paid DLC. Micro-transactions are things you pay for in game for small amounts(micro). The Premium edition you're talking about is an extra $40. This is normal for most games these days and is not what people are talking about when it comes to micro-transactions.

Re: Starlink: Battle For Atlas Is Getting New Star Fox Content And A Free Splitscreen Racing Mode

Crillan

Love this game! Got all the ships and accessories and I was looking forward to this update. Gonna break out the game and put some more hours into it. So many comments above are so totally wrong in so many ways. Get all digital and you'll have everything you need and it's not much extra cost. You also don't NEED anything besides the starter set to finish the game. I wish people would stop misinforming about that. It's a very fun game with a decent amount of content and replay value.

Re: Soapbox: Nintendo's Excuses Regarding Cloud Saves Aren't Good Enough

Crillan

This conversation is silly. Who f'ing cares so much about cloud saves? I've never depended on cloud saves for anything and they're just a backup to your local saves. Do people's gaming devices break down so frequently that this is even an issue? I seriously doubt it. We've all been playing games like Splatoon 1 and 2 for a long time with no problem, but now it's suddenly a problem? Talk about whiney, entitled a-holes.

Re: Adding Fox McCloud To Starlink: Battle For Atlas Was Nintendo's Suggestion

Crillan

I played this at PAX last weekend and the toys look and feel great! The game was pretty fun and I'm looking forward to seeing more of what it offers. We only got to play on one planet taking out two objectives and didn't get to play around in space much. It starts with you in space but you immediately go down to the planet to get your targets. The toys are so light that you barely even notice them on the controller attachment. I can't wait to get this at home!

Re: Nintendo Announces Labo, A Range Of Interactive DIY Toys For Switch

Crillan

Definitely interesting, but I'm definitely not interested. I may get one or two cool sets if they make some, but not going to collect. It's definitely a niche product directed at kids and creativity, so if you judge it based on that, it seems pretty cool. I highly doubt they plan on this being a huge seller unless schools decide to pick it up for learning experiments.

Keep in mind, they didn't make any announcements or hype leading up to this. So if you're all disappointed, that's your own fault.

Re: Poll: Surprise! A New Zelda Is In Development, But What Do You Want From It?

Crillan

I'm hoping people are level-headed with their expectations. Botw was so great that it may give people unrealistic expectations for the next game and it will disappoint.

As for the direction of the series, I'm pretty sure it was said in a video or article that they plan on using the Botw open world model as the new standard going forward. I'm guessing we'll see more traditional games on the 3DS until that dies. Who knows after that.

Re: Forthcoming Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Update Brings Gardening And Crafting

Crillan

I'm level 41 and have yet to get any requests for the rare bugs or fish. It seems they're just for bells to help with your camper loans for now. Maybe the animals request them when they get higher? My highest is only level 11 right now. Still working on the high end amenities.

Just like all the other AC games, collecting all the furniture is a big thing for me, so I'll be playing this for a long time hehe.

Re: Animal Crossing for Mobile is All Set for a Nintendo Direct Reveal This Week

Crillan

@moroboshi "As I said, they were dumbed down to the point of being basically unrecognisable. Since when has a Mario platformer not allowed you to actually control Mario? It's beyond idiotic."

Was the original Super Mario a platformer? Did it have all of the same type of levels and characters and music? Did it involve running and jumping? Obviously, the answer to all of these is yes and the mobile game is exactly like that. The one difference is you don't control Mario, but who here played the game without holding the B button and running non-stop anyway? Either way, you said it doesn't resemble the original which is completely false. Also, endless runner games are a normal thing on mobile and that's what they were going for here. Nintendo is always changing how we play Mario, and that's a good thing.

"As for Fire Emblem, it's a deep strategy RPG/visual novel hybrid with large battlefields, many units, tons of depth and masses of story. The mobile version was the polar opposite of that. It's was a strategy game for idiots with an attention span measured in seconds."

Are the original Fire Emblem games turn-based strategy, with all the same characters and backstories? Do they have the same style of maps and abilities? Yes, they do. Yes they shrunk it down to fit a mobile experience, but again, you said it doesn't resemble it at all. That's completely false.

You have valid arguments about why they're not as good as the originals, but you have to understand they didn't intend them to be exactly like the originals. Criticize the game for what it is, not what you wanted it to be. You should look at them as a mobile experience intended for short bursts of time, to get you interested in Mario and Fire Emblem, to maybe pull you into the larger console experiences. They've been pretty blunt about their mobile intentions, but that's not the frame in which you seem to be judging them.

Re: Nintendo Made Us A Better Developer, Says Metroid: Samus Returns Studio MercurySteam

Crillan

I played Metroid: Samus Returns last weekend at PAX. It was pretty awesome! The melee counters were fun to use but also not guaranteed to hit. You need to know the right timing for every enemy. I played the original on Game Boy and completed it, so to play this new upgraded version was pretty awesome. I made my own map on grid paper back then, but having the map on the bottom screen is perfect!

I also played their Castlevania game and completed it. It's definitely worth picking up if you haven't played it yet.

Re: Feature: Exploring The "Switch Tax" And Why Nintendo Was Right to Use Game Cards

Crillan

You get what you pay for. Other consoles have the large hard drives, but you also pay a lot more for their consoles because of the upgraded hardware. You also can't take those console on the go like Switch, so you get the luxury of console games on the go. You just have to pay a little extra for the microSD card, and that's only if you need it. So far, I don't have any games that need it and I don't plan on buying any that have indicated the larger size yet.

Re: Video: Take a Good Look at the Heroes of Fire Emblem Warriors

Crillan

I played this at PAX last weekend and I loved it! I played hundreds of hours on Hyrule Warriors and loved it, but this game adds a few more mechanics. It utilizes the combat triangle familiar to Fire Emblem games, so the enemies you fight will have indicators that they're strong or weak to you. It also allows you to swap between heroes on the battlefield like the traditional warriors games. Another aspect taken from the Fire Emblem games is you can pair up with another hero to create different combos. When I was using Camilla, I selected to have Robin pair up with me and when I activated my special, Robin went first to do some magic, then Camilla finished up with some awesome melee devastation. I foresee spending hundreds of hours on this game.

Re: Ubisoft's Starlink: Battle For Atlas Isn't Just For Kids, You Know

Crillan

I'm not sure how they can say Skylanders and Disney Infinity were spectacular failures when they made billions of dollars. It died after a few years, but not until after they both made crap tons of money.

I'm definitely interested in the collectable space ships. I think this will be different in that you will only need one ship with several parts to upgrade instead of 50+ main figures. Even if they release like 100 ships, you would probably just need to pick a few favorites and some upgrades to fit your needs/style. I'll be keeping my eye on how this game will work.
