First revealed in part through a leak by Famitsu and in full at BitSummit this past weekend, Mighty Gunvolt Burst is a promising new action platformer from Inti Creates. As something of a mashup between Mighty No. 9 and Azure Striker Gunvolt, the new game will aim to recapture that Mega Man gameplay in a format that expands beyond what was started in the original Mighty Gunvolt on 3DS.
Inti Creates CEO, Takuya Aizu, recently spoke a bit more on the game to US Gamer, first explaining that Beck and Gunvolt will only be the beginning of the game’s playable characters.
For playable characters, this time around you're starting off with two, Beck and Gunvolt. As you mentioned, there were three characters in the original. So, as for Ekoro [from Gal*Gun], we're actually working on her right now, and the plan is that... when the game comes out, you can absolutely play as Beck and Gunvolt. After that, we'll be adding Ekoro to the game as soon as we possibly can. And we have many more characters to come.
Mighty Gunvolt Burst will be featuring a lot more content than its budget predecessor, and part of this new content will be boss encounters with all the boss characters from the infamous Mighty No. 9. Naturally, one would be inclined to think this game is something of a continuation of Mighty No. 9, but Aizu was quick to point out that this is very much an original project.
The presence of the Mighty Numbers as boss characters might leave you with the impression that we're trying to create a connection to Mighty No. 9. But actually, it's more a matter of our director Ikegami having been involved in that game, too. It's actually been quite a while since all of our duties with Mighty No. 9 have been completed, and the truth of the matter is that we really love these characters. Ikegami probably more than anybody! We love these characters, and we want to give them a chance to appear in a game again. And the way to make that happen is with Mighty Gunvolt Burst. We made this game completely on our own, with no input from Keiji Inafune or Comcept. Basically, we said, 'We want to use these characters,' and they said, 'Go ahead!' We were happy that they gave us the OK to use these characters, for free. But in terms of the game itself, there's no involvement from Comcept. This is a labor of love by Inti Creates with characters we really adore.
It certainly looks to be shaping up to be a quality title, but then again, we’ve been fooled before.

Inti Creates puts out some really good stuff, so I'm looking forward to this one. I hope they can somehow get Sophia from Blaster Master to work, that'd be awesome!
Definitely picking this up, and I'm glad to see Ekoro getting added soon. Better late than never, I suppose...
@SwitchVogel Agreed. Even though the Azure Striker Gunvolt games weren't my cup of tea at times, I liked Inti Creates for going above and beyond in the indie world. Plus, Blaster Master Zero. 'nuff said.
The only other indie developers that I think could match them would be Yacht Club Games (Shovel Knight) and Inside System (The Legend of Dark Witch games, Fairune games, and recently Kamiko).
More characters? Sign me up. To any fans of the Mega Man series: This is going to be a must-play game. If this looks interesting to you, look up the original Mighty Gunvolt.
@PtM beck was in mighty gunvolt on 3ds as well
Can't wait for this game
Count me in. Nine times over.
This looks fun
Hopefully the characters aren't tiered difficulty modes this time around.
Also, hopefully there's more than MN9 stuff.
Sweet! The original Mighty Gunvolt was really fun! Gunvolt, Beck and Ekoro were so fun to play with. That final boss was kind of a jerk but still fun to fight!. XD
Definitely getting this on the Switch!!!
This game makes me forget about Mighty No. 9.
I'm in the minority that really enjoyed MN9 (just not on Wii U), so I'm glad they're not letting these cool characters die.
@nab1
Though the game failed utterly, I still like the characters too, and if anyone can do them justice, its Inti Creates.
I'm glad that Inti Creates made it clear that Mighty Gunvolt Burst is totally their own baby. It's been said in various posts and I've said it before myself that Inafune should have just let Inti Creates have at MN9 to begin with, but what's done is done now. What I'm hoping is, since Beck was supposed to be a spiritual successor to Mega Man anyway, is that Beck will STAY an 8 bit character, and perhaps this Mighty Gunvolt Burst can serve as a bridge to a future Mighty No. 9, retooled for continued, classic, 8-bit Mega Man goodness, powered by Inti Creates.
@MeloMan I think most people just didn't give MN9 a fair chance or even played it, just got caught up in the controversy around it which created an echo chamber of hate, more than it deserved. The fact that the Wii U version had the worst performance issues didn't help of course. But there were a lot of good things in it, the characters for one, but also the weapons and weapon system. I hope this new iteration also has the same level of great weapons as MN9 did.
Comcept giving away the license for free kind of makes them seem more apathetic than nice.
But whatever, this game might be what most people wanted out of Mighty No. 9.
Well, they have to do something with the assets of Mighty N9, since the game itself was so bad...
Think of classic Megaman, but with different sprites
Count me in!
I'll support this. Inti doesn't disappoint.

THIS IS AMAZING! I did enjoy M No.9 a lot despite its many flaws. So is really great that they are bringing the characters again in another game. The characters are amazing and deserve to be love.
