@Bass_X0 I was thinking mostly of the 2000's, and honestly it depends on the game/franchise. Tekken 1-4, soul calibur 1-3, melty blood, guilty gear xx, and most anime fighters from those days generally didn't have dlc that I can recall and if they did it was like two bonus characters. now it's insane. There should never be several dlc packs of characters for any game IMO, and that's what every single fighting game on the market today does mixed in with season passes.

To be fair each of the six sf alpha/3 games were different from their previous incarnations. (stages, sprites, characters, balancing)

Can't wait for this to go on sale. That being said though, i miss the days when fighting games were released with full rosters without any characters locked behind a paywall. Maybe I'm just old.

@TechaNinja devs almost always do this. I'd bet good money the ps5 games revealed yesterday won't look as good as they did in the trailers either. All of that being said though, maybe the switch pro will be able to handle more graphically intense games?

I find it very hard to believe that street fighter didn't break this milestone first.

I was going to say that people are overreacting and this looks nothing like Botw... but after seeing the clips this legitimately looks like botw. I'm fine with things taking inspiration from other things and adding original flair, but this seems like a reskin of botw. They didn't even try.

@Benji80 @JimmySpades I think the point is general parody? I also think there are a lot of people who are just bored of normal sports games... especially people who don't really like sports in the first place. I'm one of them and I'd much, much rather play inazuma eleven or golf story than FIFA or PGA 2021 for example. Outlandish elements make it exciting. I've always thought realistic sports sims were some of the most boring wastes of technology and manpower in modern history. I'd rather play farming simulator 2020. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion though.

Am I the only one who thinks f-zero is better than Mario kart(except for the multiplayer aspect) and that the star fox franchise is overrated in general? I also think Kirby should be top 5, metroid should be number 1, and the soundtracks for earth defense force and brawl brothers are underrated.

The reviewers on this site have rated some bad games fairly well, so I'm actually impressed that a game was rated this badly. That's an accomplishment.

@Incarna have you looked on GameStop's website? During a sale last year I got one ds eo and the millennium girl for $10 usd each. The shipping wasn't much at all.

I mean, this is interesting and I do think it's a good use of resources. It was just wayyyyyyyyyy overhyped. Good for sega though.

There are so many different shows that I probably won't watch any of them? I'm not sure why everyone didn't just get together and stream one extremely long video package on YouTube... most people would watch that.

Maybe I have a dirty mind but that ship looks like a giant phallus. It looks so phallic that I'm a bit confused as to why the box art was green lit in the first place. The NA version is attention grabbing to the point of amazement, so that gets my vote.

@Benhop07 tomb raider(Alicia vikander version) and detective pikachu weren't awful imo. They weren't... great, but they were better than mediocre.

If you include 2d animated movies the last two Pokémon movies were surprisingly good.(I admit I might be biased bc I'm a Pokémon fan, but still)

@Max_the_German I agree, it feels like Sony has just given up for the last few years. Part of me feels like they're just saving a lot of wide appeal titles for the ps5 launch/era though.

@Max_the_German I can't think of any new AAA PS4 exclusive titles that appeal to more than one demographic, and in my experience that's what moves consoles.

Honestly, I forgot the app was a thing that existed. I might consider downloading it for mk8d... for the people that do use it for Mario kart, are the people in chat mostly racist/sexist or mostly nice?

@NEStalgia wait, so you won't get a game if you hear about it after the first ad was released, but if you hear about it on the day of reveal you'll buy it?? Also ppl of all ages (mostly 11-35) use twitter and instagram, and mostly boomers use facebook now. Most people are hooked to social media one way or another. I would call the comment threads under articles here a sort of social media.

@NEStalgia tbf I feel like the vast majority of people that actually care about new video games either have a social media account or they frequent websites like Nintendo life/ign/etc. If it's an AAA game it'll probably get a tv ad, if not most people who aren't "glued to social media" wouldn't buy it or be interested anyway.

@Andymad If they did that people would just complain if it isn't a game they wanted and eventually lament the whole countdown drop scenario. That's what's been happening to Nintendo directs for a while now. Everyone seems to have extremely high expectations.

This is the worst event theme so far. The music isn't exciting enough and it's harder to see who's attacking you/who you're attacking.

I think this title is actually worse than under night in-birth exe: late(cl-r). With that I can at least assume it's a niche series and something was just lost in translation. But reverse collapse: code name bakery makes just enough sense to sound like a cooking mama/over cooked clone, and if you've never heard of those games the title makes literally no sense. It's like they picked random words out of a dictionary.

@link3710 I feel like every other title on this week's list(other than brain training) leans more towards "escapism" than ac. Tending a garden and gaining currency to pay off loans seems more like "stressful normal life."

@Samwise7 You just made the game sound more boring lol. I don't see the appeal either. Especially 60$ worth of appeal. I'm glad that such a non-violent, non-sexual game is selling so well but I sincerely can't understand why so many people from the casual audience are buying it. No shade on the game or its fans at all. I'm not trashing the game, just confused.

@SalvorHardin Yeahh, I was thinking that. While better graphics are great they aren't especially necessary and this might just end up costing studios more time and money in the long run.

I've been a Pokémon fan since the first gen. The idea of a "poke clone" doesn't annoy me but the fact that they're basically ripping off Pokémon does. If they took the monster catching or strategic battling aspect and changed it in a new or novel way it would be on my radar, possibly to buy, but this literally just looks like Pokémon with another skin.

Only seniors with bad takes on racism can play? That's a weird mode- oh, the ball physics are changed and you have unlimited boost. That makes more sense.

@HammerKirby I think that's how a good portion of fans feel. Online the most polarizing groups tend to be the loudest and end up pushing narratives.

If people really don't like the direction game freak is going in they should leave and wash their hands of the series. I'm not sure why some feel the need to spread vitriol under every single Pokémon related news article and twitter post. Like... just leave. Find a new franchise. Not saying this to be inciteful or antagonizing, just saying.

@MortalKombat2007 Sometimes companies put out ports of older games to gauge general interest in the series and see if a sequel is financially feasible. If legends didn't sell decent-ish we might have to wait a while.

ITT: why minorities don't like white people.

The smartphone game market is absurdly lucrative, but if Nintendo wants to go that route they should create a new dev branch that focuses on making NEW officially liscensed smartphone games and release arcade ports on the switch instead. Maybe offer discounts or free smartphone games if you own a switch. But just releasing arcade games on phones is a stupid idea imo.

@Moistnado unless I'm missing something, yes. It's a box that holds n64 peripherals and cartridges. I could see people buying it for 10 or 15 usd but 50$ seems like entirely too much.

@kopaka No. I'm not sure why this game is so successful either. People are saying it has broad appeal but you could say that about games on all three systems. Also I didn't think AC was a well known franchise, and I've never seen an ad for horizons on tv or YouTube. I'm not knocking the games success, I'm just a bit confused.

And I see your point about celebrities, but most of them could give a million easily instead of raising a million. A million to them might be equivalent to 300$-500$ dollars for people with an average living wage. Also I think a lot of them have massive egos and only do "charitable" things so people will think better of them. The vast majority of rich people are entirely lacking of empathy and pr stunts like this are a result of that.

I think these stats have a Eurocentric bias. If you go by actual tournament winners and seeds it seems like Japan, Korea, and USA (usually) take turns dominating the fighting genre from year to year, but on the website they have Japan, wales, ireland, Canada, and Sweden? How many Evo wins does Sweden have?

EDIT: Looking at the methodology it says they only used speedruns. So this list isn't good for the more "competitive" aspects of games.

@Hippy_Pirate_89 A lot of professional critics of movies and video games are really out of touch. Even some of the ones that aren't part of big recognized publications push narratives in their reviews. I'm not saying every single professional critic is garbage, but a good portion of them aren't exactly great at their job.

About that last review, I don't think that Nintendo games are going downhill by any means, but I DO think that nostalgia drives the shopping habits/general attitudes of lots of people and modern companies shamelessly exploit that.
