Re: Adorable Pikmin 3 Deluxe Coasters Appear On My Nintendo Europe

Cherkov

@RazumikhinPG I also ordered the coasters from the US MyNintendo site and can also confirm they are useless as coasters. My wife loves Pikmin though, so she wouldn't put cups on them anyways.

The coasters on the European MyNintendo site, however, look more legitimate with an actual description of the product you will receive. The US site does not have a description, probably because they are so pathetic.

Re: Random: Reggie Says Animal Crossing: New Horizons Should Give Out More Star Fragments - Do You Agree?

Cherkov

Animal Crossing has always been a game about the slow burn. If anything, this one seems extremely more generous than any previous outing. I have a wardrobe full of outfits. Sable has given me a new set of custom patterns for the past three days. Balloons are dropping tens of thousands of bells daily. I have more crafting materials than I want, really.

If anything, I wonder what Nintendo has planned for down the line. Now that they have embraced the idea of games as a service, I would hate to see them turn Animal Crossing into a DLC cash grab.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying the game is perfect. Crafting multiple items, crafting from storage, overly long and repetitious dialogue during events. Those are just some of the issues off the top of my head. How many star fragments you get per night isn't one of them.

If you spent hours wishing on stars and only got a few the next day, guess what? Don't do it again. You live, you learn. You don't get gold nuggets for every rock you hit either.

Re: Apocalyptic Farming Sim Atomicrops Explodes Onto Switch Next Month

Cherkov

Do not think Stardew Valley or you will be disappointed. This is more of an action shooting roguelite like Binding of Isaac or Enter the Gungeon.

It's fun but you die and the game resets. Permadeath is not Stardew Valley. The farming is fast paced. The crops are your currency for upgrades. Everything is trying to kill you. Dialogue is practically non-existent. You buy your spouse by growing roses. They give you upgrades until they marry you. Then they become extra defense on your farm.

Again, it's fun but what it borrows from Harvest Moon is not what people like about Harvest Moon. It's not even Rune Factory. It's its own thing.

Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons Version 1.1.0 Update Arrives Before The Game's Even Out

Cherkov

This might be great and all, but it has me worried about playing this game in the future. Part of the fun of the game is loading it up at certain times to partake in the special events going on. If these events are now locked behind DLC, that ruins that completely. What happens when the service inevitably goes down? How many events are currently planned before the devs decide that's enough support? Splatoon didn't get splatfests forever.

Re: Warner Bros. Reveals Full DLC Roster For Mortal Kombat 11's Kombat Pack

Cherkov

@Patron Wait? Are you trying to say that there aren't women that look or dress like that? Obviously people don't float and have magic powers and all that, but I know for sure I have met people that look that way. Let me be clear that I am not asking to be disrespectful. It's obvious that this is something that concerns you. I am just curious as to why you fell that way.

Re: Nintendo Bans Online Services For Prominent Hacker's Switch Console

Cherkov

@Jediheadband That's why if you want the whole story, you have to follow those links at the end of the article. The article this post is referencing states that it was hacked in the past. It was an update to the original post, so maybe that info wasn't available when the article was written, but those are the facts now.

Re: Nintendo Bans Online Services For Prominent Hacker's Switch Console

Cherkov

If you read the post in the link a little closer, they say that the console was hacked in the past. It just wasn't hacked anymore. This article should update yo point that out.

They aren't sure if they completely wiped any traces of the previous hack either. So all of the excitement over banning non-hacked systems can calm down for now.

Re: Feature: Waxing Apocalyptic With The Makers Of Dillon's Dead-Heat Breakers

Cherkov

My problem with the first two is that as Tower Defense games, they weren't very good. Having to run around to each tower to tell them what to build or when to repair was a slog. Why couldn't I just tap on the tower and pick upgrade? They even had an in game excuse to make it work with your partner that flies around in his helicopter doing not much else. The action adventure aspect was enjoyable. Racing around fighting, collecting power-ups, and upgrading Dillion were all fun, but the added stress of having to run around managing the towers ruined it for me.

Re: Hackers Get Linux Running On Switch And Claim Nintendo Can't Patch The Exploit

Cherkov

@Radbot42 I am no expert but my guess would be that it is hardware related. They can probably update the firmware to patch holes in the code, but the hardware exploit remains. That can only be fixed in future console revisions.

Same thing happened with the Wii. Initially, there was access to the boot rom that just couldn't be patched through firmware updates.

Re: Ghost Town Games On Why Switch Is The Perfect Platform For Overcooked

Cherkov

@SLIGEACH_EIRE Like I said, just get the facts right. You don't like using a single joy-con. That's fine. Other people do, and that is an option while you stated it wasn't.

And as far as Street Fighter II goes, my friends and I loved playing it on the SNES and that used a similar setup minus the d-pad. So, yeah. People will enjoy playing with just a single joy-con each. Some won't. It's still an option.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of the Splatoon 2 Global Testfire on Nintendo Switch?

Cherkov

I loved Splatoon on The Wii U, and this one held up well in comparison. Having to press a button to use the map will take getting used to, and I'm not sure it will ever be as intuitive as the touch screen was on Wii U, but it works.

Content is king here. To me, there needs to be enough new stuff to justify itself as a sequel, but having some old maps return is necessary, too. Expanding on everything that made the first one great is the obvious solution. Putting that into action will be the difficult part.

Hopefully they roll it out with more content out of the gate than the first one. The periodic updates helped keep the hype rolling, but the game felt a little slim at launch.

I'll be waiting to see what they announce in the coming months.!

Re: Interview: Image & Form Gives Us the Full Lowdown on the SteamWorld Heist: The Outsider DLC

Cherkov

The inventory was probably my only complaint when I first started playing, too. The problem was that I just wanted to collect it all, like in most other games. Just let my hoarding instincts take control, but they didn't design the game for that.

So I adapted my play style and found there was no need collect everything, which allowed me to sell more things and make more money to purchase more inventory slots. Profit!

Re: The Falco amiibo Unlocks a Special Black Arwing in Star Fox Zero

Cherkov

@Vandy You should watch yourself, son, and not go making assumptions about people you don't know. All I did was point out how your 2 examples are not opposing points of view, then backed them with examples of my own. Just because trends are changing doesn't make them changing for the better. I don't feel entitled to anything here, but I do know what I am willing to pay for, and this ain't it. Episodic content? Cool. New campaigns? Awesome. Texture changes and a "cool" statue? No thank you.

And almost every game in existence? You should learn to check your facts a little better there. I will be enjoying my old game of Bayonetta 2 and dress as Samus without buying anything else for it.

Re: The Falco amiibo Unlocks a Special Black Arwing in Star Fox Zero

Cherkov

@Vandy You do realize that those aren't differing opinions, right? I don't like the fact that they lock things behind Amiibo that would have been considered a bonus reward for completing an achievement in the past. I would like something more substantial from an Amiibo before I would consider purchasing it. A new skin and difficulty change NEVER required a physical purchase in the past.

How much is it to unlock all the costumes in Mario Kart 8? Costumes! What is substantial about that?

Super Mario Galaxy allowed you to play as Luigi after beating the game as Mario. It brought a whole new challenge to the entire game due to Luigi handling differently. Now imagine having to pay extra for that bonus. Disgusting!

Imagine having to buy all the figures in the Zelda series to unlock the 2nd quest in the original Legend of Zelda. Ridiculous!

Saying I don't like the Amiibo unlocks and would like something more substantial is not two different views.

Re: Rumour: The European Version of Bravely Second Only Has "Good" Sidequest Endings

Cherkov

Wow! That word censorship gets thrown around so easily now that people seem to forget what it's really all about.

Censorship goes on everyday. If you don't believe that, here's an example. Whenever you think something but don't say it, that's a form of censorship: Self-censorship. It's what helps keep society civil.

Anyway, this sounds pretty far from censorship. It could just as easily be a balancing choice. The developers could have received feedback from too many players complaining about the sidequests that the developers decided to tweak these things before the international release. Maybe they even felt it would be too difficult for western gamers to understand, so it was dumbed done. These things happen all the time in game development.

You don't have to like it. I personally don't like it, but that doesn't make it "Censorship!". This isn't Fahrenheit 451 everybody.

Now as far as the skimpy, cleavage-bearing outfits on underage girls, and the gratuitous panty shots, that has more to do with American society and government views. That is closer to censorship. More like self-censorship,though, because Nintendo and Square-Enix didn't decide to remove it because they were told to, but because they knew it could cause problems with government (e.g. the ESRB which is the industry's form of self-regulation to appease government), and problems with the general public that sees sexuality as something to hide from the youth. And let's face it, videogames are still viewed as a kid's hobby rather than the massive entertainment market it really is.

My point is that you can't really blame the developers for their choices. It just makes good business sense. If you want change, it's going to have to come from somewhere else.

If you don't like it, vote with your wallet. While you get your titillation and your deep choice-driven sidequests elsewhere, I'll be enjoying some Brave Defaults.

Re: Get Messy in Splatoon's Latest Free Stage, Kelp Dome

Cherkov

@Mcollette It's funny how you blamed the media for calling it free, but turn around and defend Nintendo when I point out the fact that they said it first.

You make it sound like they were forced into saying that, but they didn't have to say that. They CHOSE to say that because it looks better from a uninformed consumers standpoint. They didn't say they would add ranked battle in a free update even though it was unlocked later for "free".

I'm glad we can at least agree that the Capcom analogy was bunk.

Re: Get Messy in Splatoon's Latest Free Stage, Kelp Dome

Cherkov

@Mcollette It IS completely different from Capcom. The reason being that Capcom did not hold back half of the monsters or maps and then announce that they would give them away for free because they are just that nice.

Secondly, go watch the Direct again. When they announce the content, they specifically say free content updates.

It's just being a little dishonest. I actually like that this content is "free". Paid dlc runs the risk of fragmenting the player base.

Re: Get Messy in Splatoon's Latest Free Stage, Kelp Dome

Cherkov

@Mcollette I think you misunderstood what I was saying. I don't have a problem with them unlocking content slowly, it's just by Nintendo using the term 'free content', they are being dishonest. I think that's one thing people are having a problem with. If Nintendo said that they were going to slowly unlock content as players get accustomed to the game, that would be different. It is acknowledging that the content is there but will be unlocked with time. The way it comes across, to me at least, is, "Hey! You know how you usually have to pay for DLC? Well we're giving it away! Aren't we nice?"

I don't know if you agree or not, but I feel like the game was launched a little light on content from a multiplayer standpoint, and knowing that they held stuff back makes it worse in my opinion. Also, what you say about whoever buys this game will always have this content available to them isn't completely true. I bought the game and I can't play it.

I'm just joking about that one. I know what you meant.

Re: Get Messy in Splatoon's Latest Free Stage, Kelp Dome, Tomorrow

Cherkov

My problem is with how they have presented these updates. They are being disingenuous when stating these are free updates, when in reality, the content was already completed and on disc. It's not free if you've already paid for it.

But that leads to another question. How much of the announced content is actually already on the disc?

One of the multiplayer maps, Camp Triggerfish, has been shown very early in the game's development. It has even been shown being played, but has yet to make an appearance. Is it because it's not finished, or is it on disc waiting?

The same goes for the new game modes they have announced, Tower Control and Rainmaker, as well as the new matchmaking modes for team lobbies and friend lobbies. Are these still having finishing touches applied, or are they just waiting to be unlocked?

While I can see the need and desire to want to prolong the user experience, I think it is a lie to frame it as free content.

So what is really on the disc? I'll have to wait to see what the data miners have to say about that. Until then, it's too early for me to pass judgement.

Re: Video: We Tackle The Dual-Stick vs. Motion Controls Splatoon Debate

Cherkov

Maybe there is a reason motion controls are better for newer players. It might mimic a players desire to move the whole controller to adjust movement. Kind of like when a person that has never played a racing game turns the controller to turn more, even though it doesn't help. Or when they flick the controller up when they jump.

Maybe with motion controls in Splatoon, it makes it more intuitive for newer players to aim, and that's why more seasoned players find it more difficult. They are already used to using two sticks that motion controls throws them off. Just throwing that out there.
