Earlier this year in March, Square Enix announced a new "deeply strategic RPG" called The DioField Chronicle - created by a team of "veteran" strategy developers at Lancarse Ltd. It's set within a world of honor and political intrigue, requiring players to direct units through multiple combat encounters using a 'Real-Time Tactical Battle' system.
It's scheduled to arrive at some point this year, and now in an update, this upcoming Switch release has been rated by the ESRB. The game has received a 'T' for teen rating and contains blood, mild suggestive themes and violence. Here's the full description, which also sheds some light on what else to expect from this upcoming release:
"This is a role-playing game in which players control mercenaries battling rival factions in a fantastical world. From a top-down perspective, players engage in tactical battles against human soldiers and fantastical creatures (e.g., giant wolves, dragons, the undead). Players select attack moves from a menu as their party members move around the battlefield; characters use guns, swords, and magic spells/energy blasts to defeat enemies. Cutscenes depict further instances of violence and blood: characters impaled by swords; soldiers battling with swords/lances, amid splatters of blood; still images of characters lying in pools of blood. In one storyline, a villain kidnaps village women, forcing them to work in a brothel."

Sounds interesting! Will keep an eye on this one.
Looking forward to Fire Emblem: Three Houses 2. 😏
Very bold of Nintendo to reboot Fire Emblem.
I finished Triangle Strategy the other week and loved it. So hopefully SE are on a roll and this is great too (although TS is going to take some out doing...and the way the horse looks like it's running on ice as it moves isn't a great start.)
Dang. I read that headline as "The DinoField Chronicle" and got all excited before I read the article and was thoroughly disappointed. Don't get me wrong, it still looks like a good game, but where are the dinos???
I’m surprised they didn’t give it a more creative name like Pentagon Planning or Valiantly Plain.
It looks good, but it's just like another TRPG, which isn't a bad thing, but they just released Triangle Strategy, and this doesn't look very different, apart from the art style. If at least it was like a normal RPG with this kind of battle, such as the Shining Force series, I'd be more than happy.
I wonder why they don't just remake the original Final Fantasy Tactics as they are so focused on this genre now... That would sell millions! I never played it, and everyone says it's so good I would buy it day one.
That looks really cool, actually. First I'm seeing it, but definitely on my radar now!
Those comparing this to fire emblem have obviously never played a fire emblem 😂
It looks nothing like it and fhe gameplay is different, and stop pretending fire emblem invented Tactical Rpg's because they didn't.
This game looks pretty good and can't wait to play it, seems like it has some dark themes to it as well.
Hope this is better than triangle strategy because triangle strategy was a snooze fest.
Who is coming up with those names...
Looks nice I'll definitely keep an eye on it. I always enjoy a Fire Emblem game so this looks right up my alley.
It looks like a budget, watered-down Fire Emblem game. Which is not the worst thing in the world, as there's not that many quality TRPGs around.
Water Crest - Four Domiciles
and by that I mean "LOOKS GREAT DAY ONE BUY"
"You thought it was Fire Emblem, but it was ME! DIOFIELD CHRONICLE!"
All joking aside, it looks alright, but probably not anything stellar. I might pick it up one day if it goes on sale, but not on release date.
I'm just glad this isn't another live service game.
Why do all their games look like you're watching them from behind a widow's veil lately? Everything looks fuzzy and dark
Yaaaaas. I can't wait. Day 1 if this is physical!
Wish they'd stop with all the political RPGs... it's just a boring topic and we have more than enough political nonsense in the real world. Give me fantasy to ESCAPE the politics.
Does look pretty good though, even though I'm sure the switch version will look like a blurry PS2 game.
@KingofSalvagers04 Was wondering if anyone would make the reference. Have a thumbs up.
Another Tactics games From Square with chibi style ? come on i need Action JRPG Games Like
nier automata and Kingdom hearts True Port
The past two years have been really great for tactics fans. Keep em coming!
@SearchingS this had no chibi style that i saw. Normally proportioned characters.
It looks fantastic, i hope it ends up being that way. They screwed us on FF VII remake & took turn based away, we don't need more action RPGs instead of turn based. If they want to make them in addition to, fine, but they have already screwed turn based fans enough. It's about time we get something that looks decent & not "retro".
@twztid13 my bad is not really chibi, trailer looks cool but in eshop Square enix most of the game was RPG and Tactics there isnt have any single Action games inside. They recently Release the Triangle Strategy is great and i was playing it. But next title another Tactics again.
kind a bit .............. not saying is bad just, look they going to Release Remaster Front mission is another Tactical games.
maybe FF Tactics Remaster. what i want to say is just give me some of my Favorite game on Switch From Square not bunch of Tactical or RPG
East Field, North Field, Central Field...
Well, the silly naming conventions didn't translate from titles to world building, at least...
This probably has more in common with Growlanser than it does Fire Emblem, especially with the way movement on the map is handled.
Fire Emblem Squeenix Edition then? Ha.
TBH, I am very interested in this
Square Enix must REALLY love that logo font.
thematically, sure, this is a bit like an FE game (which is to say, it's thematically similar to the vast majority of tactics games... FE doesn't own that type of story)
but mechanically, this looks nothing like an FE game... mindboggling that there are so many people here comparing it to that
@SearchingS i hate mech games, & retro looking games, so neither of those games were for me. With this game, a tactics game lover can finally have a decent square enix tactics game, ao i think it's a great move, personally. Way too many companies have no tactics games, so I'm glad someone is finally releasing a few. You can get action adventure games at every other developer.
