@5th313ment My point is that accessibility itself that allows for people who are not as able bodied as others to enjoy gaming is important, especially important to continue growing the medium. Closing doors is kind of an odd business decision. As for a person’s personal sexual exploits, I did not mention that topic in my original comment so… that’s a bit uncomfortable, not sure where that came from. Not sure if we’re discussing the same thing? On that note I guess, people who are different than you have the right to see themselves in media. I agree that shoehorning in diversity for the sake of diversity is in itself disrespectful to the concept of diversity, but there are loud voices that throw tantrums even when a piece of media IS designed specifically for those audiences.

Very happy to see most of the comments are well-intentioned and kind. I find that when matters of accessibility and equity in the gaming space are brought up, privilege and gross ignorance bubble to the surface.

Oh, and Nintendo has an obligation to do better.

There are some surprises on this list for sure that I’m curious how they’re hanging on, but the number 1 spot is likely not going to change next week either.

I’m actually glad to see him return in the flesh. It’s something that the BoTW/ToTK art style definitely needed to show off.

@Shepdawg1 I don’t see harm in Illumination having the keys to things like Mario, Kirby, and Donkey Kong but the “deeper” stories like Zelda, Fire Emblem, and Xenoblade belong elsewhere.

@Olmectron That’s 100% valid. There were moments that definitely hit that perfect nostalgia mark for me and boiled up some strong positive emotion.

8/10- Always happy to see a competent gaming adaptation. There is very little deep “lore” to go off of so I feel like they took just the right amount of liberties. Also Jack Black stole the f**king show.

I was really happy with how much screen time they gave Donkey Kong. I was also surprised at Seth Rogan’s performance. It wasn’t as stale as I expected.

He won me over a bit more with this comment. Understanding the impact of the character he is playing and being open enough to admit that is more than I would have previously expected of him. He’s never been my favorite for more than one reason, but this shows a level of humility that I am glad to see.

This comment section is harping on a strong Princess Peach while the real MVP is a damsel in distress Luigi.

Sounds like the neighbors next door in Redmond get along really well and Nintendo fully supports the transaction.

@Realness Going from God of War: Ragnarök on my PS5 to Pokémon Scarlet was too much. I couldn’t play the new Pokémon games because of it. I’ve -never- been one of those people but I guess I am now.

Despite FFXVI’s PS5 timed exclusivity, Final Fantasy has felt like a shared franchise for a while now to me. Yeah, mainline titles seem to have their initial break on PlayStation but the series has just seemed to thrive on Nintendo systems ever since the GBA. Also, Cloud is such a mainstay with Smash Brothers these days. The FFVII-IV days of it being just a PlayStation franchise feel so distant now.

Certainly aimed at kids, but it has gotten me emotional a few times so far. There is a sense of loneliness Sonic has to grapple with that does hit me some.

Honestly the nice whisky and Classic Coke is a great way to put it.

Good God, I think I blocked half the community from this thread alone. Predictably disappointing. Either way, representation matters, even if it makes those who do not understand it uncomfortable. Sitting in the stink of one’s discomfort has always and will always be how others are able to live openly. Nintendo is a company that really does play it safe at nearly every turn when it comes to social issues. I work for a company that does not but we operate in environments (read: very, very blue cities) where we have the space to do that. Nintendo very much allows the world to sort these things out before following.

TPC has always seemed a bit more bold than their parent company when it comes to putting their money where their mouth is. Yes this all qualifies for tax breaks, but that by no means indicates that corporations should just stop doing what they can when it comes to being responsible to the communities they serve.

Pokémon is a worldwide phenomenon that touches many young (and old) lives. Teaching kids to think before they speak and to have empathy before being reactionary and exclusionary is patently a good thing.

Honestly? I’m just glad they did it. As long as it performs. Really excellent to see it get love across PC and all three major console platforms.

Nintendo is brilliant but also exhausting.

I think it’s one of those games people wont have a solid opinion of until it’s in their hands.

Claiming to be “pro liberty” while exclaiming how little you give a crap and displaying an egregious lack of empathy is an interesting take. Not defending Nintendo, but I have little sympathy for this kind of attitude.

Likely coming to a Nintendo Direct soon, but Atlas does like to play these strange games with Nintendo it seems.

It needs to happen. This company has got to do a better job of making its back catalogue more accessible and that includes 2001 - present, not just their 80s and 90s content.
