Publisher Tate Multimedia has announced that Kao (pronounced K-O, by the way) the Kangaroo will be launching on Switch on May 27th, 2022.
First available on the SEGA Dreamcast in 2000, the series went dormant in 2005 after the launch of Kao the Kangaroo: Mystery of the Volcano on Windows. The new game looks to reboot the franchise with fresh visuals in Kao's biggest adventure yet.
Kaja Borowko, head of Tate Multimedia, had this to say:
“We’ve been blown away by the response we’ve had from gamers since we announced Kao the Kangaroo was making a return earlier this year. With this new chapter, we’ve set out to make sure the new Kao the Kangaroo both honours his previous outings and offers fresh, contemporary gameplay for fans new and old alike. This is a complete reboot for Kao, and we can’t wait to see how people take to it at launch!”
Kao the Kangaroo will release for a digital price of €29.99/$29.99/£24.99 and a recommended physical price of €34.99/$34.99/£29.99.

KAO !!! 😃😃😃
Come to Me, Handsome Kickboxer Kangaroo! 😍😍😍
Wait, he can change his elemental on his boxing gloves?
COOL! 😃
Awful trailer. I am a sucker for platformers, so I will give this one a go, but that trailer is not selling it at all.
Looks like Banjo Kazooie / Crash / eh... bit of Zelda ..?
Hmm, interested, but will probably look so much better on other platforms… the ones I don’t have.
Im excited Recently played through Kao Round 2 again and enjoyed just platforming around, hopefully this will bring Kao back with a big jump
I've been eyeing on this while having never played any of its games.
Dang, 2022 is definitely kicking off to something real purdy here.
I don't know...I've never been a fans of those AA 3D platformers, I think they are ok at best. Also, this trailer is awful.
Hmm I’m interested.
That logo and art direction really make this come across as a Crash 4 clone. Trailer left me pretty cold too. And why would you make a platformer about a kangaroo and not make the jumps super bouncy and boingy? God I’m ranting.
wow. this looks pretty good!!
This looks like a crash 4 clone. Gameplay looks to have that classic hallway system, artstyle is basically the same, the worlds look the same and even the promo art looks like they just took the crash characters and replaced them with Kao characters.
Looks like a good reboot, if the game plays well then I may pick it up once it's on sale.
@fenlix Mind if you explain what your problem with the game is? Not sure what exactly you find wrong about "those AA 3D platformers".

£25 sounds like a real bargain definitely looking forward to this one
@Specter_of-the_OLED I think £25 is already a very reasonable price it's not like Pokémon & mario that release for £50 - £60 & never get discounted
@Nintendoh They usually feel like lower-quality versions of AAA platformers.
@blindsquarel
As I have ever played Kao the Kangaroo Round 2 on Gamecube, Kao games are NOT Crash Bandicoot clones as both of them have very different way in 3D Platformer games.
Crash Bandicoot was like traditional 2D Mario style games but in 3D perspective while Kao games was like Mario 64 style with 3D environments and full camera angle.
Also, in Kao the Kangaroo Round 2 he has a Health meter unlike Crash Bandicoot that he will die immediately by one mistake.
But in Reboot version from I watched the Demo gameplay on YouTube, looks like the developer used multiple of Hearts instead.
Did anyone play the Marsupilami platformer game?
I'm glad to see these 3D platformers from the Golden Era get there return to the spotlight, I just hope they can stick the landing.
I've never played this series, but I might give it a shot just to support the genre.
If people care this much about Kao, think about what a new 3D Rayman game would be. I'm glad Kao's returning and it's nice that it's releasing in May, not later. Good luck.
@Anti-Matter
I am not saying anything about the old games as I have not played them. I am talking about this renew entry and how similar it looks to crash 4. The promo art is undeniably based on it. From the purple and blue background to having the main villains portrayed in crystals.
Played the demo during Steam Next Fest on PC and it was outstanding! So I'm keen for this reboot of a franchise I never played before.
Indeed. The trailer looks shet. Sadly. Also seems they've used some sound assets from crash.
