Re: Splatoon 3 Becomes The Fastest Selling Nintendo Switch Game In Japan

AnnoyingFrenzy

@HeadPirate "Japanese people love Splatoon is the new Germans Love David Hasselfhoff" I get what you're trying to go for, but the "Germans Love Hasselhoff" trope is for media that's more popular OUTSIDE of its home country, which Splatoon certainly isn't. I don't believe its a trope for a piece of media to be more popular in its country of origin than elsewhere, but I could be wrong. That said, it is staggering just how much more popular Splatoon is in Japan than anywhere else. Puts Yo-Kai Watch to shame really.

Re: Nintendo Direct Zelda Announcement Rumours Intensify

AnnoyingFrenzy

Things that are "definitely happening":

1. Nintendo Direct in September
2. TP and WW ports
3. Metroid Prime Remaster (remember when it was a Metroid Prime Trilogy remake that Nintendo had fully completed and was sitting on?)
4. GoldenEye Remake
5. Star Fox Grand Prix (Pepperidge Farm never forgets)
6. Switch Pro

Re: Game Journalist Doubles Down On Zelda News At Upcoming Nintendo Direct

AnnoyingFrenzy

I will never get why these leakers get clicks and such. It's not like they leak anything particularly groundbreaking, and most of the time they get it wrong anyway. Even if they are right its news that the public is going to learn anyway, usually within a few days even. Seems incredibly selfish to me to risk somebody else's career within a company to leak such useless info. If I were them, I would try using my internal connections to try to expose terrible internal policies and practices the public wouldn't normally be aware of, like what that one journalist did to BioWare with Anthem if anybody remembers that.

Re: Nintendo Is Apparently Not Involved In The New Switch DRM Initiative

AnnoyingFrenzy

@ThePizzaCheese I mean something like this:

Anti-Pirate: I can't support emulation because piracy is bad.
Pro-Emulation: Emulation is not piracy. You can copy the game you bought legally yadayada
Anti-Pirate: Can't believe you'd support literal theft.

And then they go on like that. Obviously a very paraphrased discussion, but this is essentially the brass tacks of most "discussions" on the topic I see. Neither side in this conversation actually was discussing the other's points. Most obviously with the Anti-Pirate, blatantly ignoring the legality of emulation. However, the Pro-Emulator side ignores the point of the Anti-Pirate. Emulation is most commonly used to pirate games, even brand new ones, but they ignore this in favor of attacking the generalization of the statement. Really discussion should be about how companies or emulation sites could encourage the purchase of the media being emulated in question, but that will never happen. So instead both sides will take their own moral high ground on the issue and restate what is essentially a pro-con list. It's especially funny imo, because both sides actually agree that piracy is bad.

Re: Sega Announces Space Channel 5 And Comix Zone Movies

AnnoyingFrenzy

As a concept, I think Comix Zone has actual potential, don't think Space Channel 5 has much of a shot though honestly, unless they really rework it, but then what's the point?
What bothers me most about the description for the Comix Zone one is that they describe the comic book creator as "jaded", a personality trait, but they describe the writer as "young, queer and of color". Those are not personality traits unless they are saying that IS his/her/their personality, but I think it's clear they threw those in there for the buzzwords. It becomes even more apparent when they mention that they must "put aside their differences" later. That line would have worked better if maybe the writer was described as "new, optimistic or high-spirited" to play off the jadedness or if the creator was described as bigoted. It could play off the queer/of color part (although not sure Comix Zone is the right movie to have a major focus on the overcoming of bigotry, but more power to them). Using it for marketing is one thing, but I just hope they actually flesh the character out in the movie instead of just making them another diversity plug-in that only exists to be the token minority representation.

Re: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Maintenance Is Due Tomorrow, And Fans Are Speculating

AnnoyingFrenzy

I really don't get the people hyping this up or complaining about the wait personally. It's not like these are big new releases. There are plenty of other larger, newer experiences to try while you wait for your 8 new courses that, as history shows, you will inevitably complain about anyway. That said, if this is the experience you are pining for, more power to you, I just personally don't get it. Coming from someone who adores Mario Kart 8.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Duel - Metroid Prime

AnnoyingFrenzy

@AstroTheGamosian I did some digging because I was curious to figure it out and I discovered that the background is an official render of the Frigate Orpheon, so not a room used in-game. I've tried a couple of times to post a picture of the room, but whenever I did it would just show up as a blank line with no text or image, so I'll just post the link to the site. It's in the Gallery section scrolling down as the third image. Compare it the image HammerGalladeBro posted above and you can see its the same room, clearest with the orange lights coming from the floors and walls. https://metroid.fandom.com/wiki/Frigate_Orpheon

Re: Mario Strikers: Battle League Update Adds Daisy, Shy Guy, And More

AnnoyingFrenzy

Can't say this is my preferred release model, but it does make a lot of sense from both a business and consumer perspective to release content updates after launch for high-profile multiplayer releases (as far as I am aware, Mario Kart and Mario Party are the only two that didn't have significant content updates after launch). I wonder though, if the game did launch with everything these updates will bring and then no updates after, will the sales be more significant? In my opinion, its hard to say. Aces, Golf, and New Horizons are already, or on the way, to being the best selling games in their respective franchises so clearly this model isn't hurting Nintendo in the slightest. Then again, Super Mario Party became the best selling game in its franchise and had the equivalent of the color beige for content compared to something like Mario Party 2's rainbow. So compared to that I would easily take this. Just don't start charging for it Nintendo. This all coming from a guy that wouldn't have played the game anyway, so no lost sale here.

Edit: Also Daisy is the best Mario Princess.

AnnoyingFrenzy

@Dinglehopper "Nintendo doesn't take risks anymore." Sorry, but I'm going to disagree with that statement even though I agree with the overall message you're sending. I'd consider Labo, Game Builder Garage and arguably Mario Kart Live to be risky ventures made in house that didn't really pay off. I wouldn't call any of those "safe bets." I will personally agree that Nintendo isn't focusing on the right areas to take risks in though.
