From a character perspective, I’d be totally fine with most of the echo fighters just being skins and voices while keeping the same move set sans dark samus- as it literally flies. The koopalings are a great example of that.
The crossovers were incredible, and I think having maybe even just one representative from each game would cut a large portion of character balancing.
I’d also be fine with like, half the roster if there was a really good online infrastructure. Smash’s online is objectively a**
I really just want a better online infrastructure. If the Wii U was a failure the one thing it did right was offer some sick options for communication with friends. Both video chat and miiverse.
I want to talk hot trash while playing smash.
Let me be toxic, Nintendo. The kids gotta learn
But seriously landing with friends over communication in a private arena or something without having to use that stupid Nintendo app would be ideal.
To be honest Activision/blizzard were already sinking and fast at that. I’m sure their games were Making a lot of money but I don’t think it was showing longevity regarding Diablo, wow, overwatch 2 and how all of those games losses of their respective community.
I had the first one and now have an el gato hd 60x.
The latency on the shadowcast was so bad I couldn’t play anything semi competitive,
The hd 60x I can play first person shooters but not smash or street fighter. I really want a device that offers just pass through. Just use obs to screen cap
@HammerKirby to be clear, a 2d Mario is totally fine. By no means am I saying replace a 2d side scroller with an open world- Im just expressing that because 2d Mario has been so similar over the course of like, 40 years now, and having played every single one up to this point, I find it difficult for it to wow me as a game of the year contender…
At least with Zelda the experiences feel like completely different vibes and moments.
Compare the couples quest of majoras mask to visiting sunken by rule for the first time in wind waker to climbing the typhoon in tears of the kingdom.
Innovation in Zelda has been wayyyyyyyyy beyond Mario.
@SBandy1 that’s where we’ll disagree, but that’s ok. The level design behind creators covered a huge spectrum of challenge, creativity and skill. Sure. The screen isn’t transforming in a trippy way but the Mario charm was there and then some considering the added assets.
@martynstuff I don’t really feel like wario land was a metroidvania. It had less linear design and backtracking sure but I’m talking more of… idk put the Mario bros in bowsers castle and explore the entirety of that. Then end off by him escaping to an airship and having a final battle in space or on a star. It’d be sick.
@SBandy1 open world games haven’t been around since 85, and objectively offer a lot more gameplay variety than a Mario 2d platformer. I also never said I think totk should be goty…
But if we went that direction totk had several moments that were incredible (wind temple entrance comes to mind).
the only thing that worries me about this is I believe team 17 published blasphemous, right? just leave them alone. let them cook. they’re doing amazing things for the community
@AlexHarford cross code does have some rpg elements but it’s more of a Zelda kind of game with a huge emphasis of puzzles and logic rather than a turn based rpg. I’m almost done with crosscode and it has definitely been worth the ride.
So I hate to be that guy because I love MEGAMAN x as much as anyone but the gacha mechanics are horrendous in this game and the lack of social activities pretty much ruins the only good thing it had.
You might like it when you first start out. And then you start hitting them walls like any free to play, and then you realize that they do everything they can to corner you into a purchase.
My mistake was being super competitive in the pvp and I got up to the best meta characters at the us time of release, super bass, dive zero, etc and every character after that was just another power creep. I hate what nebula joy did to this game, I’m salty at the money I put into it and I’ve learned my lesson.
TLDR I would not recommend supporting this as it’s not even a cap on game, they are licensing it to nebula joy and have been constantly criticized for unfair odds.
You also don’t get the coop, pvp, guild, chat, etc
eh, I like the idea but that means the game is going to be slow for multiplayer. I love momentum in sonic, even if there are a bunch of tricky platforms throughout. this is like… new super Mario bros but a little faster
Baby park is absolute garbage. Conceptually it’s cute but they could’ve imagined a toddlers adventure kart course way beyond an oval. Mechanically you can barely tell what’s going on or what shells are targeting you and the cross fire is like the constant brawl you run into from starting a race from 3rd to 8th place. You know what I’m talking about; That cut throat traffic jam crab in a bucket clammer to compete for a chance to beat second lol.
I just read through the comments... I know one of you out there is going to say 7.8 too much water... come on, Show Yourself!
Edit : that was fast.
I think that black/white 2 was honestly the best as the sheer amount of content it had.
hg/ss is a close second for the same reason,
then all of the originals up until the gba in any order
by the time d/p came out it kind of lost a charm for me with those. It's not a bad game I just didn't feel the magic. That was also during a really hard time in my life. I'm willing to give the shining games a chance though
@RiasGremory the problem isn’t the games, it’s that the online service they offer for multiplayer games is whack. No parties, chat, messaging, achievements, bad online experience with lag (smash bros) etc. their fundamental is what’s weak, not necessarily their offering for retro games
@DomGC It's the VoiceOver and mixing of audio. the voices don't match the energy of the trailer and there's some weird side chaining/ducking happening. It's like they made the trailer with music and someone overdubbed a VoiceOver
This should be renamed hot take. I’m pretty sick of games trying to be like movies with “epic” orchestra and what not. As a music producer and someone who grew up with the incredibly 90s/2000s music in games I miss it. This was one of the biggest complaints I had with castlevania: lords of shadow. Ruined the entire cultural vibe
@shgamer i was really nervous to hear mercury steam was working on samus returns as I hated mirror of fate and what they did to castlevania as a whole. I was happily surprised with samus returns but I do not want to see them develop anything castlevania related ever again lol.
I don’t like that people usually have to turn to Roms to access legacy content. I just don’t get why these companies are so reluctant to give a platform that people can enjoy their old school games.
How many times have Star Wars movies been re released on every single media platform out there? They know people will buy it just to keep updating their modern library. I get both sides and only come out disappointed either way at what’s become. I just want to have all my games in a single system that will transfer over to new hardware when it becomes available

@anoyonmus I was under the impression that it was like a shadow drop as it just appeared on the App Store without any headlines

Resident evil 4 for Mac iS supposed to release before 2023 is over. Wonder if it’s that

@SBandy1 Super Mario maker 2 doesn’t count?
I could understand the re releases of the Older games but if anything Smm2 was a HELL of a game in comparison to what we’re getting
Re: Mario Producer: Sonic's Same Week Release Is "An Interesting Coincidence"
@HammerKirby Mario has been in almost every single genre of games. Zelda has been in very few by comparison. Not a good analogy
Re: Mario Producer: Sonic's Same Week Release Is "An Interesting Coincidence"

Re: Mario Producer: Sonic's Same Week Release Is "An Interesting Coincidence"
Sonic looks like the better game, although likely to be shorter. I don’t believe Mario is going to be a goty… it’s a 2d mario…
Kind of wonder why there was never a Mario platforming metroidvania with character progression/abilities.
