In just nine days' time, Nintendo will be launching its latest, shiny, gorgeous looking console – the Nintendo Switch OLED. We've been lucky enough to go hands-on with the system, so we thought we'd share our thoughts with you lovely lot ahead of its official launch on 8th October.
Our video team, made up of the also-lovely Alex, Zion and Jon, have gone over plenty of questions that Switch owners are likely to have in an attempt to answer them once and for all. We couldn't share any side-by-side footage unfortunately, making it hard to give you a proper verdict, but it's safe to say that we came away rather impressed with what the new system has to offer.

Pre-orders for the Switch OLED are still available at a number of stores if you're interested, and we'll make sure to share our full review of the hardware right here on the site at a later date. Until then, let us know if you're tempted to pick one of these up in the comments below.

Has anyone tried sticking one of these in a Flip Grip yet? I know it won't lock into placed properly due to the lack of vents on the back but I'm curious to know if it fits okay besides that.
The Switch OLED looks so premium at first glance, yet it's just another model of the regular Switch.
The bigger screen is enough of a selling point for me. The screen becomes a blur in tabletop mode due to how fine the pixels are even from a short distance, plus greater immersion in handheld mode is always a good thing. I don’t even know what to expect from the OLED display itself, but I hope to be impressed.
I want that Switch OLED.
Gimme one, so i can make 2nd island for ACNH.
Does it taste of cherry chap stick?
@ModdedInkling,
Which is what they usually do, release a console and improve it's build and quality around three years down the line.
My Switch became pretty much unplayable due to overheating, fan noise, and big bits melting off of it since April, so I’ve been borrowing my Mum’s Switch. Excited to return it back to her and upgrade the screen, internet connection, and battery life at the same time.
@Anti-Matter,
Those benches will have been delivered, sorry I was not on yesterday, will go online later and drop them off.
Not too interested tbh, my 2017 model is still doing just fine
@Gwynbleidd,
Same here, getting everything prepared for the swap over, getting pretty close now.
For those that getting the oled. Enjoy. Looks great. I want one but I already have 2 switches and a lite in the family and personally play docked most. One to get for the future.
@johnvboy
Oh, thanks. 😀
For me, I’m doing just fine with my regular switch, but it’s nice to know there’s a modified switch if it dies unexpectedly. If you’re getting one though, I hope you enjoy it.
I only play handheld, and considering how Doom games can go as down as 360p, I think bigger screens is only gonna add to frustration.
@MrGawain really?! Got mine on launch day and it’s still looks and performs like new
@FatWormBlowsASparky ummmmm big bits melting off is not normal. I would keep your switch away from children or fire hazards
@johnvboy
Yeah, the DS Lite and 3DS XL come to mind, just to name a few. I just wish people tampered their expectations over this.
Can’t wait to get mine. Using the Hori split pad pros on it will be handheld gaming nirvana
@BenAV I hope we can still use it even if it’s not a perfect fit.
@AG_Awesome That's what I'm hoping too. I've put 460+ hours into Groove Coaster with the Flip Grip and it'd suck not to be able to play it like that anymore with my new Switch if I do upgrade.
I canceled my preorder. At the moment, I'm not willing to pay the full price for the same console with a better display. I'm playing 80-90% in Docked mode. So I'm skipping for now.
I love to play only in portable and preordered this Oled! A question: may i use old 2019 switch case for this Oled? Thanks
Guys, did you also touched steam deck ?
@Razputinman i was saying the same thing myself, but the battery life is really starting to suck, or maybe i'm just paranoic
@Nintendo4Sonic Oh man, but if you're mostly docked would you not like to uPdAte tHe nEw DoCk?! (i doubt it will even change anything)
Another day and another video to NOT to watch.
But they like so that will do for me.
@MrGawain Sounds like it could do with cleaning out, not sure how easy a switch is to open up and clean but worth looking into
As a replacement for a broken device or when getting your first Switch it makes sense. As an upgrade it doesn't. I'm sure, however, it will sell, same as new smartphones sell every single year, which make even less sense as an upgrade.
I'm glad I PRE-ORDERED My OLED Switch! Theses are going to be so hard to find during the Holidays!
I can't wait! I'm so excited to play on my Nintendo Switch OLED!
Is the joy con drift fixed?
Im getting one for my bedroom tv. I will probably unplug my WiiU to plug it in...the only question is should I wait until I get it for myself Christmas to play Metroid or just go ahead and play it on one of my kites or launch switch...
@ModdedInkling
Just another Switch, but better, is fine by me!
@My_ultimate_is_ready sadly, no. same joycons, just with a white color.
@Deerock69
If I could trade in my Switch for full price and pay $50, I wouldn't complain.
Did it give consent first?
Actually holding off on playing some new games to experience them on a better screen. Tried playing Diablo 2: Resurrected on the old switch and it’s pretty rough looking outside docked mode.
@BenAV I forget the name of my mine but I wonder too since my current one slides tightly in. I guess I could mod it by making some cuts and filing it down to make the bigger one fit if needed
I'll wait till they make special versions of this before buying it. You know they will
@Ketsumeishi I couldn't imagine playing D2 without keyboard/mouse
and the clicking... the endless clicking in that game. My wrists would break like an old halloween prop
OLED good for first timer but those already have a v2 Switch you only benefit a bigger portable screen and 64gb storage but beyond that you paid more but not much in Performance return. As I said before if it came with newer or upgraded GPU to do DLSS then I be happy but as anything a shinny screen only good if portable but once Docked is all the same.
Good time to replace my 2017 V1 that has seen better days
I would buy if I actually had the chance to pre order one. Smh
Q: Will it be possible to buy the dock and the white joycons seperately?
Will it be easy to swap everything across from my old switch
Dang you switch folk must be financially challenged . Both of my switches are docked to lge8 and e9 55”….. this oled switch isnt a upgrade. Sad ya’ll support nintendo bs gimmicks. Im serious to, you want to upgrade because of a more colorful vibrant screen?
Im reading through alot of ya’ll post and you gents/ladies are making real bull corn excuses to upgrade…. “Oh a bigger screen”.. really?… its only a inch or two.. “The stand on my og switch is crap”…. That justifies spending $350?..
if we wouldn't support nintendo with their bs gimmicks we’d have a very good handheld/console made correctly.
I say we because ive supported them as well. We need to demand better. Theres no excuse as to why nintendo could not have upped the power so we could get 90min max120fps in all their games at 720p-1080p. Their art style in most games does not require 4k so there's no need.
Lets try to do better and make nintendo do better.
