@TwilightOniAngel Read the original post again. This wasn't the data from the card being installed to the console's memory (like the PS4 and XB1 do), this was the card not delivering all of the needed data (only 7-8 GB) and you being forced to download another 13 GB. That's something else entirely.
Honestly, they lost my purchase, at least for now. I might be tempted once it goes way down in price, but this is unacceptable.
If an actual installation were needed for loading times, I could live with that. I have a PS4 and Xbox One, I know the drill. But the Switch uses cartridges and the biggest plus about that is the way faster loading speeds. This is WB skimping on the more expensive/expansive cards because they're probably anticipating somewhat low sales and are trying to make money wherever they can.
I've gone pretty much full on digital with the PS4 and XB1 and am loving it. With the Switch, due to me using only a 128 GB microSD card, I was planning on buying every physical release in its physical form. It's these kinds of stunts that make that really hard for me.
Might want to rephrase some of this text. Deep Strange Journey is an updated version of Strange Journey, not a sequel.
Not surprised Atlus is going this route though. They have an enormous amount of fans in the 3DS userbase and with only 2 million Switches in the wild as of now, they aren't going anywhere.
Production costs are also virtually non-existent for titles such as these, making it a rather attractive business proposition for Atlus.
Based on the Destructoid review that just got released, can't say I'm all too hyped. That and the 25% price increase for Europe.
I'll just wait for Snake Pass, Lego City Undercover, Shakedown Hawaii, Wonder Boy, Mario Kart 8 and Puyo Puyo Tetris. All of those are launching in March/April and seem to be worth the money.
Weird that the Tomorrow Corporation games arrived later than in the US, but mostly annoyed by the fact that these years old games aren't available as a 3-pack for a discounted price. That would've made it so much more attractive.
As for Has-Been Heroes, I'm surprised by the fact it's $19,99, but 19,99 in the UK and 24,99 in Europe. For me, that's a tough pill to swallow. I'll just wait for Snake Pass.
This is such a huge oversight on Nintendo's part. It's always been a hassle with Pokémon, but at least somewhat understandable due to the whole trading and fighting nature of the game.
This though? I can't imagine the outrage that would've been out there if this had happened with The Witcher 3, Metal Gear Solid V, Mass Effect: Andromeda or Horizon: Zero Dawn. Just the thought of having to create another user account for a second playthrough is absurd, no matter how easy it is to create one.
Ha, surely you kid? In the Netherlands, Germany and most other EU countries it's €329.99. Also, add in taxes for that $299.99 and in most states you're looking at around $330.
Now I know that simply using an exchange rate doesn't tell the whole story, but that translates to Americans paying somewhat less and Europeans paying more than the Brits.
For the fun of it, let's take a look at how big a percentage these prices are of the GDP per capita. In the UK, it's 7.6% of your monthly income before taxes. In the Netherlands, it's about 7.7%, with Germany having to cough up 9.6%. And in the United States it's........ 7%
So this whole 'Woe us British' shtick is getting kind of old by now.
Already, Nintendo's off to a bad start on the digital front, if you ask me. A demo and 25 year old game as the only new additions to Switch's eShop in its second week? That's just bad form....
Yeah, this is puzzling to me. The Switch is very much capable of supporting such a title and, like you guys mentioned, most of the people who fondly remember these games are Nintendo gamers.
Here's hoping we'll get a version later on. Fingers crossed.
I'm not exaggerating when I say this is one of my most anticipated titles for the Switch. I was really hoping this would arrive soon, launch day is way better than I expected.
Honestly, I'm guessing this'll be my most played title after Zelda in the launch window.
Great news! Another day 1 title for me. It's totally getting out of hand over here now, though. Zelda, Bomberman, 1-2 Switch, Fast RMX, Snipperclips and now this? I should probably let I Am Setsuna slide for now, don't have time for any other grand scale game besides Zelda anyway.
@FX102A Regular tablets might have better screens, but there's not a lot of tablets in this price class that are this optimized for gaming and come with 4GB of RAM. I think the Switch is a pretty impressive substitute for gaming on an Android tablet.
@DanteSolablood Try playing a rhythm game like this with motion/pointer controls. I dare you.
Completely expected this. If you've ever played any game from this developer (or similar titles like Theatrhythm, Osa Tatakae Ouendan, et cetera), you'd know a touch screen is a must.
Personally, I'm glad that Nintendo isn't forcing developers to use both modes of the Switch. I can do without awkward, tacked-on controls in docked mode.
Is there any word on the size of this update yet? The promise of popping in Zelda and start playing immediately, sounds great, but I'm pretty curious as to how many MB/GB my Switch needs to download before it's fully functional...
Honestly, this is getting out of hand for me. I am now at: Nintendo Switch, Pro Controller, extra Joy-Con Set, Travel Case, Breath of the Wild, Super Bomberman R, 1-2 Switch, Snipperclips, I Am Setsuna, Fast RMX.
I don't think I've ever gone this all out on a console launch....
@arnoldlayne83 That's what I said in my post. I have that on my PS4; my PlayStation is a friend's "primary console", his is mine. We can play each other's games, but after the first few weeks I already stopped using that possibility.
Not at all surprising. Truth be told, I can 'share' my PS4 and Xbox One with friends (and do so in the case of the PS4), but after the first few weeks I already stopped using that feature. When I really want to play a game, I'll just buy it for my own console and be done with it.
With the Switch though, this would be a way more tempting feature. Being able to buy my girlfriend a Switch and then only having to buy each game once? Now that'd be something.
@Ernest_The_Crab Not surprised as to why'd they compare them, confused as to how they obtained both versions. NintendoLife is a UK website, so I figured Nintendo would only send them a PAL version. How the NTSC version ended up here, is the mystery to me.
Zelda, 1-2 Switch, I Am Setsuna and Snipperclips for me. Will get Fast RMX once it's released and will probably get Bomberman sooner than later. I'm still convinced it's not that great a launch line-up, but I do know I'll be entertained until Mario Kart 8. Can't wait.
EDIT: Aaaand I caved. Just pre-ordered Bomberman and another Joy-Con set as well. When I go in, I go all in.
The presentation is pretty subpar, but it could be a diamond in the rough. Too early to tell. What's up with the gimmicky split-screen layout though? That just looks annoying.
I have to admit, I succumbed as well. I'm getting Breath of the Wild and I Am Setsuna on the 3rd, Snipperclips as soon as it's available and Snake Pass at the end of March. Wanted something more than Snipperclips to play with my girlfriend though, so there you go. I caved.
Not that surprising a size for a 2 game package consisting of titles that originated on PS3 and PS4. I'll wait for confirmation that it's coming to the West, but if it isn't here before the end of April, I'll probably just import the Japanese version. Not exactly a narrative/dialogue heavy game to begin with.
Not at all surprising. If you've ever taken the time to watch one of the trailers, you'll see it's a puzzle platformer set in a single location.
If anyone was expecting an action adventure title with dozens of hours of playing time, they haven't been paying attention. I'm getting it day 1, for what it's worth.
@FGPackers Ah, thanks! To be fair though, it is huge in relation to the other parts, but I conveniently forgot that the Switch isn't as tall as most 5.5" smartphones. So yeah, this size does work out with such a capacity.
My god, that battery is indeed gigantic. What's the capacity again? Because I know that more and more smartphones have capacities of 4,000 mAh or more and take up way less space...
@retro_player_22 Like @River3636 said, I'll believe it when I see it. We didn't get Theatrhythm, never got X, and it's been more than a year since the original release of Joker 3.
I'm not ruling it out, but it just feels very unlikely at this point.
Man, how I'd love for that game to come to Switch. It's not going to happen and I competely understand that, but it's getting harder and harder to dust off my New 3DS XL with the Switch so close to release...
@Eric258 I'd start with Dragon Quest VII and VIII on 3DS then, if I were you. Those are actual main games in the Dragon Quest franchise.
Warriors I & II are 'merely' spin-offs by the same developer as Samurai and Hyrule Warriors. Ridiculously fun spin-offs, mind you, but still spin-offs.
@NEStalgia I'm guessing it was a perfect example of cognitive dissonance. I enjoyed Just Cause 2 so much, I desperately needed to tell myself 3 was just as good. As it turns out, I'm only human. :')
Though I admit, I'm a sucker when it comes to season passes for the more 'epic' of games. For racers, shooters, et cetera, I usually don't care, but for open world titles and RPG's such as Just Cause 3, Final Fantasy XV and something like this, I just can't help myself.
EDIT: Which, in the case of Just Cause 3, was obviously a bad decision on my part. :')
Alright then, apart from the 03:00 and 04:00 time slots very accessible. I'll most definitely be joining in on the fun.
I did participate in the testfires for Splatoon on Wii U, but never pulled the trigger and bought the full game. On Switch, I'll be rectifying that mistake and get Splatoon 2 day one.
@countzero Yes, you're right, should've been more clear about that. I meant when it comes to other developers/publishers. Apart from the fact that Nintendo counts Wii Sports for the attachment rate numbers, the best sold games for the platform are:
1. Wii Sports
2. Mario Kart Wii
3. Wii Sports Resort
4. Wii Play
5. New Super Mario Bros. Wii
6. Wii Fit
7. Wii Fit Plus
8. Super Smash Bros. Brawl
9. Super Mario Galaxy
10. Just Dance 3
In the Top 25, only 7 games weren't published/developed by Nintendo. That's bizarre. And anything but healthy for a console's ecosystem. That's only going to scare away publishers who think they can't compete with Nintendo. Were there amazing first party games on the Wii? Yes. Were there some astounding indies on that console? Most definitely. Did Wii gamers miss out on a ton of games in that generation? Wow, did they ever. From the bigger third party publishers we could only expect subpar ports, spin-offs, retro collections or in some cases borderline shovelware.
The top 30 best sold games for the Wii has Just Dance 1 to 4, Michael Jackson: The Experience, Zumba Fitness, Carnival Games, Link's Crossbow Training and EA Sports Active. That's horrifying.
EDIT: Looking at the best sold games for Wii U, it's even worse (though less subpar games, so that's something). The 17 best sold games are all published by Nintendo. In the top 25, only 3 games weren't published by Nintendo.
The amount of cognitive dissonance here is staggering. First of all, FFXV got rave reviews and financially broke even on day one. So let's not get all childish and scream that "it sucks" or "sold horribly" or anything like that.
Secondly, even if you would take the mature approach and simply say "Hey, I'm not that big a fan of FF anyways, so no loss for me", don't forget that for a console to flourish, it needs to appeal to more people than just you. I've owned every PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo console since the SNES, but will always be a Nintendo fan first and foremost.
That doesn't mean the last decade hasn't been incredibly damaging to Nintendo's position in the gaming industry. The attachment rate for the Wii was horrible and the amount of big IP's that have been skipping Nintendo is just beyond belief. Final Fantasy, Metal Gear, Resident Evil, Ridge Racer, Need for Speed, Call of Duty, Battlefield, Doom, Grand Theft Auto, Dishonored, Mortal Kombat, Bioshock, the list goes on. These are all million sellers that bring people to consoles, creating a healthy ecosystem, and none of these franchise have had more than one or two mainline titles on a Nintendo console in the last 10 years.
I simply buy every console that get's released and have no qualms about that. My favorite franchises are for the most part Nintendo's. But to see everybody yet again go down the road of 'Ah well, we have Zelda, so it doesn't matter if franchise X doesn't hit the latest Nintendo console', is just baffling to me. Nintendo is indeed by far the best and most consistent publisher on the planet if you ask me, but no console can thrive on one publisher alone.
EDIT: Just to make this clear, I've pre-ordered the Switch and am picking it up day one (along with 1-2 Switch, BotW, a Pro Controller and travel case). I know 100% that I am going to have a blast with this console and that there's going to be enough to keep me occupied. But it's not just about me, it's about appealing to enough people to make it a sustainable console environment. And honestly, I'm still not sure that Nintendo has learnt everything from the Wii U that it should. Then again, I am also not excluding the possibility the Switch is going to be a huge hit. It really can go either way right now.
@Henmii It's not that they can't, it's that they rightfully don't want to. When you have the consoles actually play games and use that footage in the commercial, there'll be fingerprints, glare, washed out colors, et cetera.
This is done for all phone/tablet/notebook/handheld commercials. By adding in the screen in post-production, you can truly show it off and don't have to worry about viewing angles, glare and all of that stuff.

Re: Nintendo Switch Developer Options Menu Appears In Unedited Portuguese Commercial
Re: Zelda-Inspired RPG Oceanhorn Re-Confirmed for Switch
Aesthetically and mechanically quite the rip-off, but a really good one. Enjoyed the PC port, will double dip for the Switch version.
