VR with a 720p LCD display? Thanks, but no thanks.
Then again, if Nintendo comes out with a new iteration of the Switch at some point (which I'm convinced they will), we could have the exact same chassis, only with a 1080p OLED display and lighter weight. That would be perfect for VR.
To continue on that subject, this is what I love about the Switch. Nintendo can easily bring out a Switch 1.5/Lite/whatever that has the exact same chassis, but a larger/sharper screen and more powerful innards. By using the same chassis though, you can keep on using your controllers, docking station, etc.
@AirElephant Already following that crew on Facebook and everything. Would be fun if they get to finish it, but would obviously prefer a more professional port on my PS4/XB1/Switch.
@AirElephant I never even considered that and now it's all I can think about.
I honestly don't get it either. Crytek could just put a handful of employees on porting TS2 & TS3 to HD consoles and collect some easy money, but they just won't...
"Once you’re in the middle of creating it and someone were to say, ‘No!, that’s not a Pokémon,’ and the design process gets killed? That doesn’t really happen that much. [...] For this reason, ideas for new Pokémon rarely get thrown away."
@ThatNyteDaez What in God's name are you referring to? Xbox 360 backwards compatibility is available on every Xbox One, Xbox backwards compatibility will be too.
@Anti-Matter Well, yeah, but it's software emulation, so Microsoft has to tackle every. single. individual. game. That's a lot of work and the games you mentioned are pretty niche/outdated.
But hey, new Xbox and Xbox 360 games are added to the BC list all the time. As opposed to, you know, Nintendo's Virtual Console. Or the PS4 where you can only play PS3 games by streaming them (via a paid subscription) and PS1/PS2 games by rebuying them.
@Anti-Matter Yeah, your information is four years outdated, but sure.
Also, if anything has been admirable this generation, it's Microsoft enabling backwards compatibility at no extra price. One console to play most of the manufacturer's titles on? Now that's impressive.
We haven't seen anything on that scale since the first generation of PS3's.
@AugustusOxy I.. didn't know I felt this way until I read your comment. I mean, I love the Switch. Got it day one and already have 15-20 games for it; use it at least as much as my PS4 (and way more than my XB1).
But I do get your point: there's a certain Nintendo magic... missing. Be it weird sound effects, apps or design, something's off. In that sense it reminds me the most of the Gamecube; also a very straightforward approach, but at least that one came in purple. :')
The Nintendo since the Gamecube was just... wacky. The DS, Wii, Wii U, 3DS, they were all pretty weird, with over-the-top sound effects, stuff like Mii Plaza and Wii Sports, stylus/mic controls, et cetera. The Switch might be innovative and really cool, but it's also almost something that could've been designed by another company.
@Jacob1092 If their E3 presentation is anything to go by, Microsoft is working its ass of to catch up. Thing is, when you're lagging this far behind a virtually identical competitive console (PS4), it's hard to convince publishers/developers to come on board.
I mean, they showed a huge amount of games, but system selling exclusives? Almost none of those. Microsoft really should start focusing on more in-house development. It's doing wonders for Sony (Spider-Man, God of War, Uncharted, The Last of Us, etc.). Forza, Halo and Gears are simply not enough.
I personally feel like the new art direction is a step back compared to the first Xenoblade, but that doesn't mean it isn't stunning. Incredibly hyped for this one, most definitely will be my most played game of '17.
I'm not sure, I could see this happening, but aren't expecting it at all.
It would kind of make sense though: use the slight re-doing of Sun & Moon as an exercise to get to know the Nintendo Switch as a team. No building up everything from scratch, but just re-doing some textures, draw distance, getting to know the system's architecture.
Release on the 3DS to have access to dozens of millions of fans and at the same time release on Switch to keep those early buyers happy...
Hahaha, I'm well aware. I've been thinking about getting a Dreamcast for... well over 10 years by now. Thing is, I'd simply be buying it for a handful of games and with the backlog I already have (and can't seem to get rid of), it just doesn't make much sense. But believe me, there will come a day it'll stand besides my other consoles.
(Also, love the analogy, but I actually prefer I to III over IV......)
Well, I currently own all major consoles from the last 25 years, the Dreamcast being the exception.
He's not wrong though; the Xbox One was more of a fun little extra (GWG, EA Access & backwards compatibility being major USP's for me), but it's the PS4 and Switch (Wii U before that) that really take up most of my gaming time. Great little combo.
@Darkhound1999 Nope, that IP is still with Capcom (as demonstrated by Okamiden, back in the day). A shame, as I'd love to see the actual studio return to it.
Still my favourite game to this day (along with Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door).
@Anti-Matter Actually, seeing how it's sold somewhere around 4 million by now, Nintendo needs another 16 million in the next 10 months.
That's 1.6 million per month. With Splatoon 2 in the summer, Skyrim in the fall (it won't do all that much, but still) and then most of all Mario during the Holidays, it's not completely out of reach.
If you ask me though, for Nintendo to get to those 20 million, they'd have to
a) release a Pokémon game ('Stars' or a new title) b) add a browser, Netflix, YouTube, etc. (if only for the TV commercials) c) either bring out some of their mobile games for the Switch or deliver some cross-compatiblity fun stuff d) get a Monster Hun.... oh wait, they're already on it
18 million for the PS4 in its first year, 20 million for the Wii in its first year.
I'm not expecting it to get to 18, 20 million that quickly, but I'm not excluding that possibility at all. Popular consoles can move those numbers and the Switch has been doing really well so far.
@MarcelRguez To be fair, that was a Nintendo problem to begin with.
If you have an Android tablet/phone and 'console', you can use your one purchase on all of them. If you have a PS3/PS4 and PS Vita, a huge amount of the games are cross-buy.
Nintendo solved its own problem, not so much a problem
@beazlen1 Fair enough; let's say some of the PS4 Pro replies are people that also ticked PS4. Let's, for conversation's sake, turn the 15% for the Pro all the way down to 9%. Then you'd still have a whopping 30% vs 16% on the PS4 vs Switch front.
No matter how you look at it, if you take the 21% of the PS4, lose a bit, then add a part of the 15% of the Pro, you'll still end up with a way higher number than the Switch.
The Xbox One and Switch are a lot closer, but even then: the Xbox One has been known as a floundering system for years now. It's sold less than half of what the PS4's done. It has hardly any truly relevant exclusives (I own a PS4, XB1 and Switch, to get that out of the way). So yeah, the Switch doing comparable to the XB1 in these stats isn't all that impressive, if you ask me.
Honestly? I'm more hyped about the Alexander Brandon part than the Retro part. I simply adore the man. The work he did on Jazz Jackrabbit 2 truly shaped me. Really curious as to what they're working on.
How about support for anything else than CC and eShop cards? Both competitors offer PayPal support and local support would be welcome too (iDeal in the Netherlands for example).
Was to be expected. I'll mostly be playing in split-screen on the couch and singleplayer in handheld mode, but still a bummer for those interested in the LAN support.
I actually bought this game at launch, but have traded it in. Not that it's a bad game, but I simply can't find the time for extended multiplayer sessions.
Got Lego City Undercover, which isn't amazing or anything, but perfect for unwinding after work. Glad to see the people still playing Bomberman getting such a freebie though.
Wow, that is no way to answer such questions. Very unprofessional. Wasn't aware of these framerate issues, will most definitely hold out on buying for now.
@Anti-Matter And also more timeless, if you ask me. Most Nintendo titles hold up really well, even years later. Once you go for a 'realistic' art direction, technological limitations just show way earlier.
@manu0 You say "barely use any textures", I say "smart and efficient use of assets."
Nintendo might use "less" textures, but their unparallelled application of them makes for some timeless lookers (Paper Mario: TTYD, The Wind Waker, Super Mario Sunshine, Skyward Sword, etc.).
"Boasting a 2,000mAh battery which delivers 12 hours of battery life.."
I think this is a typo. 2,000mAh would never come anywhere near 12 hours. Isn't it 12,000mAh?
Anyway, even with the current 'discounted' price, I can't say I'm too bothered. I use it in handheld mode constantly, but in my own home. Not really the 'gaming on the train/in the bus' kind of guy. Still, glad for others a slick option like this is going to come to the market.
This is such a lovely and ambitious take on the subject. I don't have a CC, so Kickstarter won't be an option for me, but I'm keeping an eye on this project.

@Damo Perfect, I'll just wait for that one. I'm guessing I won't spend more than half an hour on this, but still somewhat curious.

No Android version? That's a shame.

Re: Game Freak Director Discusses Evolution of Pokémon Designs
@Kalmaro Well, I'm not hating on the games. Or the mechanics. Or the art direction. Or the soundtrack.
Just the design of several Pokémon that truly make no sense and for me don't match the philosophy Masuda describes here.
Re: Game Freak Director Discusses Evolution of Pokémon Designs
Wait, never mind.

Yeah, no, sure, that explains the ice cream cone, Pokédex and trash bag Pokémon...

@sillygostly Then you really need to start up your DS one of these days to refresh your memory.

@beazlen1 I'd rethink yours, if I were you. This survey wasn't about 'being aware of" or "being interested in". The question was very simple:
"How likely are you, or anyone else in your household, to buy each of the following game systems?"
They were asked which one they wanted to get. So yeah, you can add up those numbers.
Re: Nielsen Games Report Finds More Interest In Nintendo Switch Than Xbox Scorpio Or PS4 Pro
So, what it's really saying is:
Microsoft: 21% & 30%
Sony: 26% & 36%
Nintendo: 12% & 16%
Those numbers are.... not impressive. :/
