Here's an interesting title coming to the Switch eShop - Golf Story. It's an RPG with pixel-based visuals that, naturally, revolves around the most genteel of sports; it's the debut release from newcomer Sidebar Games and is due in the Summer.
You can see a trailer and game summary below.
Play the story of a golfer, forced to give up all that he holds dear for one final shot at accomplishing his dream.

But all is not so simple in the world of golf. To best today's players you have to be able to keep up with them not just on the course, but also outside of it.
Here are some of the things you can do in the game:
- Tee up anywhere! You’ll be surprised by how many problems can be solved by hitting a golf ball at them.
- Explore 8 unique environments, each with their own courses, towns, people and secrets.
- Play through a dramatic story with a diverse cast of characters.
- Upgrade your golfer by completing challenges, solving puzzles and buying new equipment.
- Round out your skill set with long driver tournaments, disc golf, mini golf and wee links. Then go beyond golf with extra challenges like races, mowing, drone flights and geocaching
Dramatic stuff - will you take a swing at this in the Summer?

Its like old Mario Golf/Mario Tennis game then?
I wish they kept the RPG element for Mario Tennis/Gold 3DS.
Looks like it could be like Inazuma Eleven, only with golf. Which I think would be great because I liked Inazuma Eleven enough but never got around to finishing it just because I'm not a big soccer (sorry European friends, football) fan, but I like golf a lot better.
I wish it wasn't pixel art (just feeling personally burned out on that style right now) but this looks right up my alley otherwise, so I'll definitely keep my eye on it come release! I think sports games combined with RPG elements is a great thing, as displayed in the old Mario Golf games Camelot used to make.
RPG? yes! Golf? yes! I will surely be wanting to get this on release
I like the mix of sports games and RPG elements, usually makes for a pretty fun experience if done right. Interested in this one, looks fun from the trailer.
Maybe I missed it, but it would be nice to know how a swing is done, via a swing meter(Nes Open Tournament Golf, N64/GBC Mario Golf), or predicted landing point(Toadstool Tour/Advance Tour)? I prefer the predicted landing point, though programing the inclusion of both would suit fans of both styles.
Yeah, it was disappointing the character transfer, & rpg elements were not in the recent Mario Golf/Tennis games, if I recall correctly.
I'll be watching this.
wont lie, it looks interesting
I wasn't expecting much before the trailer but after I watched it I came away really impressed! I typically don't like golf games but this looks like a hole in one to me!
What a unique looking game. Definitely on my radar.
Return of the RPG Golf game. Cool!
I am very interested in this.
Looks like the Stardew Valley of golf. Impressive.
This looks good! Like Mario Golf on the handheld used to be before Camelot stopped trying.
Oho this looks so cool!!
...all these indies are nice appetizers but I am still looking to sink my teeth in another epic rpg...
I always wished Nintendo and Camelot developed the RPG/Golf and Tennis genre beyond what they did on the GBC. I wonder why they dropped the RPG elements from all future entries?
Yes please! Mario golf better make an appearance on the Switch. I'm talking N64/Cube Mario Golf! 3ds wasn't bad just not as epic!
Sounds fun!
I usually don't care about golf but call me charmed on this one.
Didn't Steven Universe have a joke about a golf themed RPG?
SOLD...
Man, this looks like a fantastic little game. If the price is right, this could be an instabuy!
This ... looks actually really awesome. Golf may be something that always gets my blood boiling but this is so charming, I think it'll push me through my anger. Putting ain't just my thing, you know?
im sold
Tee up anywhere ?
Hm... it reminds me of this.
Oh my God I want
If the price is 7.99 or 9.99 it's a must as it's golf (and I remember the old school golf on NES )with graphics that reminds me of the Kairosoft .story games on cellphones.
This looks really fantastic. Sounds like a funny combination that just might work!
@derty
Exactly my thoughts.
Trailer was great and the game and idea are nicely refreshing in their approach.
Absolutely worth a try, hopefully it won't be 39,99€
I'll take it!
Looks posi-tee-vely fantastic. If they price it like a chip shot, the actual golf is on par, and you can take it with you on long, straight drives; it seems like a... hole in one to me.
@snailkid Stephen Universe immediately popped in my head when I saw this. There's no way this is a coincidence. Still looks great though
An RPG/golf mix? Count me in! Just when I thought Puzzle Quest would remain the most unexpected RPG crossover I'd see.
@bimmy-lee Your comment was a little rough.
This looks way more fun than it should. Most definitely keeping an eye on this one.
Will probably get. I loved Mario Golf on the GB/A
Will probably get. I loved Mario Golf on the GB/A
@PanurgeJr - You're right. I should have done everyone the courtesy of calling "fore" before I chip in with a comment like that.
Sooo it's classic Mario Golf with cringe-worthy "humourous" dialogue? That's still worth a buy in my books, to be honest.
I'm certainly tickled by the elevator pitch here
I'll get this day one! Mario Golf and Mario Tennis GBA are some of my favorite games! I hated that they dropped the RPG aspect in recent entries, Camelot really dropped the ball with that. This will scratch the itch for a good sport RPG!
I'll be honest: I'm on the fence for this one. I mean, I'd like another Mario Golf RPG (preferably with lesser human characters and focus more on Mario characters), but the game hasn't shown enough of its features for me to consider. Sure, being able to shoot your ball anywhere and having mini games is nice, but as for everything else, I need to see more.
I'm sticking with Mario Golf: World Tour on my 3DS in the mean time.
This looks great fun !
Whoa, that came out of nowhere!
Every quirky RPG with pixel-based visuals instantly reminds me of Earthbound. Meaning I'm instantly interested.
Can someone resurrect Pangya on Nintendo Switch already ?
I'm not a werewolf. I'm just a bearded man. Who's your caddy?
Looks excellent!
Another indie title I will be buying. This summer should be called Pixel Fest! Im getting....Cave Story, heartForth, Retro city Rampage Hawaii, Celeste and now Golf Story. All we need now is Kairosoft to announce its Juggernaut of sim Games.
Looks pretty nice. Could be something!
Pokemon Golf!
Really like the look of the trailer, let's hope it turns out to be as good as it looks.
Never cared much for golf games, besides a little Pangya
But I've got to say, those graphics, promises and writing got me hooked. Surely looking foward to it
Well that's a delightful surprise!
@Timppis omg lets hope its not lol if its more than 20 I may have to wait haha
@Saintseiya911 man I hope your right but im thinking they price it at 12.99 to 19.99 the eshop has crazy prices on Switch
