I would have taken this game over a game like Splatoon any day of the week. I was looking forward to playing this online on my Wii U. Argh!! I was convinced this was actually going to be released.
I'm sorry but I still haven't seen ONE advertisement in regards to Steam. How do you roll out a new IP with no marketing whatsoever?? Has anyone seen a TV spot at all?
This game has rubbed me the wrong way ever since it was first introduced. That commercial did not help at all. I have zero urge to pick this game up. Hopefully a demo can convince me otherwise.
Nintendo wants to be the family friendly system that everyone can play. The problem is the mainstream gamer is more interested in mature titles such as Battlefield, Call of Duty, GTA, Mortal Kombat, Final Fantasy, Resident Evil, Street Fighter, and so on. Those games have mainstream appeal and there's simply no interest at all in bringing them over to the Wii U. It's a shame really.
I don't know how Nintendo is going to pull themselves out of this. How do you promote yourselves as a family friendly console and still attract mature mainstream game development? Not only that but Bayonetta 2 sales have only helped to scare of 3rd parties. If that game didn't sell then why should 3rd parties take the risk with any other mature title? It's just not worth it for them. The lack of sports titles is also a huge issue for many people out there.
Nintendo did not promote this system properly from the start. That's my opinion. Those first family oriented TV spots were absolutely atrocious and quite frankly, embarrassing. Nintendo needs to take a page out of Sony's marketing play book.
Prediction: When the time comes Nintendo fails to promote this game in any meaningful way leading to lackluster sales.
How cool would it be if Nintendo started promoting this game months before release with short TV teaser spots? Some dramatic short teasers would go a long way in drumming up some hype around this game. This game deserves it.
@JaxonH To be clear I'm as big a Nintendo fan boy as anyone else on this site. I love their games and will continue to enjoy them for some time to come. My biggest concern is that established 3rd parties will keep mature game content off this system (which is currently happening) and that is a problem for me. I mean we're not even seeing sport games being released for the system. I suppose the reality is I'll have to own multiple systems to really satisfy my needs. I wish that wasn't the case but so be it.
@TwilightAngel Yeah you're absolutely right. Imagine if Bayonetta 2 had gotten this amount of attention? As a huge Nintendo fanboy, and more mature gamer, even I am starting to worry that Nintendo is becoming the official "kiddy" console. =(
@AVahne Based on my experience I find it underrated. It's incredibly stable and I play in the dark all the time. I can lay in bed in a perfectly dark room without issue. In regards to people with thick glasses, well you can always turn it off. Better to make make a majority of users happy than none at all. I think it's a great and innovative feature. I'd have a very hard time going back to the older model at this point.
How the Nintendo NX is presented will be the only deciding factor for me in regards to whether or not I should jump ship. If I even get the slightest hint that they've compromised their dedicated hardware then it's off to Sony I go. Looking forward to more NX details.
If you're boycotting this game over one voice over, GET A LIFE!!!! You've got to have some serious psychological issues to make such a foolish decision and quite honestly you don't deserve to play the game in the first place. What a shame!
We should all band together and avoid buying from scalpers at all costs. Let them sit on their stock. Nintendo will eventually replenish popular characters.
Here's what Nintendo needs to do. Announce a new limited amiibo. In actuality produce a ton and let the scalpers buy up a tremendous amount of stock. Just keep on flooding the scalper market until it no longer becomes profitable for them. And Nintendo couldn't be held liable as "limited" could mean 10,000 or 10,000,000.
@shinokami I completely disagree with Miyomoto in regards to the future of VR. I don't believe for a second it's just a fad. I believe Oculus Rift will take the gaming world by storm. I think people are vastly underestimating how many others like myself are waiting for this tech to go commercial. I personally believe the Oculus Rift will bring back that initial feeling when you played video games for the first time. I think it's going to be revolutionary to be honest. As always time will tell.
Keep in my I will ALWAYS remain a Nintendo junkie regardless of what happens. =)
Oculus Rift will be a day one purchase for me. It's one of those things you need to try to fully understand how immersive it is. It's full on 3D filling up your field of vision that gives you an unparalleled sense of depth. It's not the same as simply sticking a screen in front of your eyes. People really need to stop making that comparison. You can't compare it to anything currently on the market.
Just imagine taking part in a space battle with full field of view in your cockpit or exploring some fantastic place with a group of friends. If you're playing a horror game you can't just turn your head and escape the world, no you're still in there. In fact people have been known to rip off their headsets out of sheer fear. Personally, I'm looking forward to it.
Try it before bashing it. That's all I'm saying =)
I love watching all the scalpers desperately trying to unload their huge stock of Marth amiibos on eBay before the restock occurs. Nintendo has the power to really hurt these scalpers if they wanted to take action.
@STAGGLY "the early bird gets the worm!", sorry but you tell that to a young kid. Remember there are kids out there who also want these. Not just crazy collectors.
@elekid I agree completely. They made too many and the waves were too close together. At least that's my opinion. In regards to money Nintendo may enjoy all the cash scalpers are spending on their toys but in the long run they may actually be losing money. If I spend $80 on one rare Amiibo, that's 60+ in the scalpers pockets and that's $60 less I can spend on other regularly priced Amiibo's. Not only that but they're also frustrating the people who really care and that's never good.
@NinjaWaddleDee All Nintendo has to do is make is clear that they will restock sold out Amiibo's. That's all they need to do. Once the "limited" label has been removed from some of the Amiibo's, scalpers will stop buying them in bulk, and people will stop paying insane prices for them.
I was willing to buy the whole collection but now I'm just losing interest due to the difficulty in finding specific Amiibo's. It's just not right when they don't even show up on store shelves. My daughter was looking forward to Rosalina and I just don't see it happening. It's just becoming too damn difficult and it really isn't worth it to stress over these things.
I was excited until I realized the scalpers will buy up every single one in the first 10 minutes. Seriously, what's the point? Anything Nintendo releases lately in limited quantities is virtually impossible to get your hands on lately.
According to eBay: "Wii U sells 4,000 consoles in 17 minutes as eBay’s Black Friday deal". That's not too shabby.
"The Wii U, priced at $259.99, sold out 4,000 units in less than 17 minutes, with customers snapping up four of the devices per second. The $399 iPads sold at a rate of one per second, with 2,000 disappearing in a just over 30 minutes"
Is it possible we're all just over reacting? =) Its very common for rage quitters to disconnect or power off their system during competitive matches in order to avoid a bad ranking. I don't think it's a coincidence we're seeing this only happen during "For Glory" matches. Honestly, I'm not worried at all. A game will not break your system. @ACK You're probably right, this most likely has something to do with the underlying API used by all apps to save files. I very much doubt this is a problem with SSB. I'm going to continue playing and just be sure to power down safely when I'm on the title screen. I'm still willing to bet rage quitters, prematurely disconnecting or powering off their system is behind this mess. Nintendo may simply end up patching the game to display an appropriate "save in progress" message and that's about it.
I have a feeling this error comes up due to people rage quitting the game mid save. Either way, the system shouldn't turn into a brick after formatting the drive so that does need a fix.
So this sounds like a corrupted save data issue. Is it possible people are turning off their Wii U's during For Glory matches hoping a bad result doesn't get saved to the servers? I could see this becoming a problem if people are turning off, unplugging their systems mid-save.
I love my Wii U, I really do, but I'm extremely frustrated with Nintendo's horrendous marketing campaign. I live in Canada and I haven't seen one, not ONE Bayonetta 2 TV spot.
