Re: Treyarch Isn't Working on Call of Duty: Black Ops III For Wii U, Though Activision is Noncommittal

Akira_1975

Nintendo wants to be the family friendly system that everyone can play. The problem is the mainstream gamer is more interested in mature titles such as Battlefield, Call of Duty, GTA, Mortal Kombat, Final Fantasy, Resident Evil, Street Fighter, and so on. Those games have mainstream appeal and there's simply no interest at all in bringing them over to the Wii U. It's a shame really.

I don't know how Nintendo is going to pull themselves out of this. How do you promote yourselves as a family friendly console and still attract mature mainstream game development? Not only that but Bayonetta 2 sales have only helped to scare of 3rd parties. If that game didn't sell then why should 3rd parties take the risk with any other mature title? It's just not worth it for them. The lack of sports titles is also a huge issue for many people out there.

Nintendo did not promote this system properly from the start. That's my opinion. Those first family oriented TV spots were absolutely atrocious and quite frankly, embarrassing. Nintendo needs to take a page out of Sony's marketing play book.

Prediction: When the time comes Nintendo fails to promote this game in any meaningful way leading to lackluster sales.

How cool would it be if Nintendo started promoting this game months before release with short TV teaser spots? Some dramatic short teasers would go a long way in drumming up some hype around this game. This game deserves it.

@JaxonH To be clear I'm as big a Nintendo fan boy as anyone else on this site. I love their games and will continue to enjoy them for some time to come. My biggest concern is that established 3rd parties will keep mature game content off this system (which is currently happening) and that is a problem for me. I mean we're not even seeing sport games being released for the system. I suppose the reality is I'll have to own multiple systems to really satisfy my needs. I wish that wasn't the case but so be it.

Re: We Have Shigeru Miyamoto To Thank For The Super Stable 3D Of The New Nintendo 3DS

Akira_1975

@AVahne Based on my experience I find it underrated. It's incredibly stable and I play in the dark all the time. I can lay in bed in a perfectly dark room without issue. In regards to people with thick glasses, well you can always turn it off. Better to make make a majority of users happy than none at all. I think it's a great and innovative feature. I'd have a very hard time going back to the older model at this point.

Re: Masahiro Sakurai Discusses his Thoughts on Virtual Reality

@shinokami I completely disagree with Miyomoto in regards to the future of VR. I don't believe for a second it's just a fad. I believe Oculus Rift will take the gaming world by storm. I think people are vastly underestimating how many others like myself are waiting for this tech to go commercial. I personally believe the Oculus Rift will bring back that initial feeling when you played video games for the first time. I think it's going to be revolutionary to be honest. As always time will tell.

Keep in my I will ALWAYS remain a Nintendo junkie regardless of what happens. =)

Oculus Rift will be a day one purchase for me. It's one of those things you need to try to fully understand how immersive it is. It's full on 3D filling up your field of vision that gives you an unparalleled sense of depth. It's not the same as simply sticking a screen in front of your eyes. People really need to stop making that comparison. You can't compare it to anything currently on the market.

Just imagine taking part in a space battle with full field of view in your cockpit or exploring some fantastic place with a group of friends. If you're playing a horror game you can't just turn your head and escape the world, no you're still in there. In fact people have been known to rip off their headsets out of sheer fear. Personally, I'm looking forward to it.

Try it before bashing it. That's all I'm saying =)

@elekid I agree completely. They made too many and the waves were too close together. At least that's my opinion. In regards to money Nintendo may enjoy all the cash scalpers are spending on their toys but in the long run they may actually be losing money. If I spend $80 on one rare Amiibo, that's 60+ in the scalpers pockets and that's $60 less I can spend on other regularly priced Amiibo's. Not only that but they're also frustrating the people who really care and that's never good.

Re: Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Facing Potential Error Code Nightmare

Akira_1975

Is it possible we're all just over reacting? =) Its very common for rage quitters to disconnect or power off their system during competitive matches in order to avoid a bad ranking. I don't think it's a coincidence we're seeing this only happen during "For Glory" matches. Honestly, I'm not worried at all. A game will not break your system. If there was a serious problem with the system firmware then we would have already seen this issue with other games.

Re: Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Facing Potential Error Code Nightmare

Akira_1975

@ACK You're probably right, this most likely has something to do with the underlying API used by all apps to save files. I very much doubt this is a problem with SSB. I'm going to continue playing and just be sure to power down safely when I'm on the title screen. I'm still willing to bet rage quitters, prematurely disconnecting or powering off their system is behind this mess. Nintendo may simply end up patching the game to display an appropriate "save in progress" message and that's about it.

Re: Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire Enjoy Biggest UK Pokémon Launch Ever

Akira_1975

I love my Wii U, I really do, but I'm extremely frustrated with Nintendo's horrendous marketing campaign. I live in Canada and I haven't seen one, not ONE Bayonetta 2 TV spot. I actually had to hop on youtube in order to watch the B2 North American commercials. This isn't a new problem either. It's been a problem since the Wii U day one launch. In fact the Wii U launch commercials were absolutely atrocious. The cheesy family oriented commercials were a huge fail and completely scared away the serious hardcore gamers. I'm starting to wonder if Nintendo has all but given up on the Wii U behind closed doors. Just feeding us enough to keep us on board until the next system release. Keep in mind I'm just frustrated because I love the system so damn much. =(

Re: Feature: The Wii U is Two Years Old, But How's it Doing?

Akira_1975

I'm still convinced the lack of decent commercials plays a much bigger role here then Nintendo is willing to realize. There are still allot of people out there who don't even know the Wii U exists. I know this is hard to believe but it's true. Sony on the other hand has had a killer showing on TV. Honestly, it's almost infuriating how badly Nintendo has screwed up on the marketing front. Just look at Bayonetta 2 which is a runner up for game of the year. Where's the advertising?!?!?! Not only that but why aren't they making it clear to existing Wii owners that the Wii U is new system and not an add-on? People out there are STILL confused by the whole thing. I love Nintendo, and I love my Wii U, but Nintendo has taken some huge missteps when it comes to marketing. They should fire thier entire marketing division and start over. Seriously. The only things that makes me feel better now is knowing that I'm getting a PS4 shortly. That way I'll have the best of both worlds. I just wish I didn't have to own 2 consoles for that to be the case.

Re: Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS Claims Second in NPD Charts

Akira_1975

I love my Wii U, I really do but I'm becoming extremely concerned with the lack of mature titles and the lack of interest in Bayonetta 2 is really concerning. I'm now considering getting myself a PS4. I just don't feel it's a Sony vs MS vs Nintendo situation any more. I'm starting to feel it's a Sony vs MS decision with a possible Nintendo system as a secondary console.

Re: Bayonetta 2 Falls From UK Charts After One Week

Akira_1975

@rylo151 @Link41x You're 100% right. I know a few casual gamers who don't bother with gaming sites and they haven't even heard of Bayonetta 2. When it comes to mature themed gaming Nintendo needs to take some notes from Sony and MS unfortunately.
