Wow, I was completely blown away by the demo. I'm incredibly impressed by all the detail in this game. A nice show piece for the Wii U. Getting this day one for sure.
Maybe these companies need to stop aiming for sky high budgets. How many smaller budgets games could Capcom have released with the budget used for Resident Evil 5 for example? What I'd give for a nice hi-res 2D Castlevania on the Wii U for example. I honestly believe developers are shooting themselves in the foot with these huge high budget, 100+ hour games. It's great when it hits but when it doesn't it hurts, and hurts allot.
I don't know about you guys but I've had many systems in the past and the Wii U is by far one of my favorites. In fact I've grown to accustomed to the gamepad I'd have a difficult time playing without it. I'm glad I gave this system a chance and I'm looking forward to all the great games yet to come. It's just a shame to see such a great console struggle. It deserves better.
You know what I really think is a major problem across major western developers? Stuck up developers who only want to support the latest and greatest tech. I believe the developers distaste for the Wii U is actually impacting the overall business decisions of the organization they work for. Time and time again I've seen tweets by developers putting down the Wii U. Just one problem among many.
I just couldn't care less about Watch Dogs at this point. I just really hope people end up supporting games like Bayonetta 2 in order to prove Ubisoft wrong. That will be a day one purchase for me along with Hyrule Warriors.
I honestly wonder sometimes if there are back-room deals going on to ensure Sony and Microsoft get the title first. The handling of this game for the Wii has gone so badly I honestly have to wonder.
It's a shame really. Ubisoft makes great games and I'd love to support them. The problem is they keep on bashing the Wii U and releasing negative news. Telling me they won't support a game before it's even released doesn't help. They then turn around and blame us for their games not selling.
Unless Ubisoft now makes a commitment to release the DLC I won't be buying this game. I already got shafted by WB with Arkham Origins. I won't let that happen again.
It's amazing really how Ubisoft shoots themselves in the foot. First they make me feel like I'm getting a cheap port by releasing this game late. Doesn't help that all the hype is dead by the time it does come out. Second, by telling us there's no DLC content coming makes me feel like a 2nd class citizen. I was excited about he game originally but have since then lost all interest. So they shoot themselves in the foot by taking these actions which help lead to poor sales and then tell us they don't want to bother with our platform. Companies should help push systems out the door. I honestly am starting to feel that some companies are on a mission to destroy the Wii U. I know that's not true but damn they just keep putting their foot in their mouth.
@nprtmn4evr As SCAR392 said, it would be nice if you could somehow physically remove your virtual library from your console. I`m sure the they`ll figure this all out in time. I envision 3 components. The console, the removable media containing your library, and possibly a SIM card identifying you. Something along those lines. That way you could have multiple backups of your library and the SIM card would prevent anyone else from using it. Just thinking out loud =)
@nprtmn4evr Actually you're 100% wrong. The system is most likely to die in the long run. Especially one with moving parts. As to the disc, a collector such as myself will take care of it. I can also easily sell the game at any point in time giving it more value than a digital copy. Not only that but if one disc does happen to start failing, I still have my other games. You lose the console 20 years down the road, you can kiss your entire digital library good bye.
However I do believe the future will go 100% pure digital someday. Hopefully they'll have all these issues resolved by then. Until they do I'll stick with my physical copies.
I'm somewhat of a collector and always tend to pick up a physical copy. I want to be sure my game will still work 20, 30 years down the road even on a replacement system.
I am starting to get very worried in regards to Nintendo's marketing efforts. Wonderful 101 is just right around the corner and you barely hear anything about it. When a game looks that great why can't they start promoting on TV with short teasers at the very least. It will be a real tragedy if they don't promote W101 properly in my opinion.
This game has incredible potential. I could actually see a movie being made from this. Nintendo NEEDS to pump this game hard. If I were in charge I would already have teasers on TV with the upcoming release date. Nintendo, please for the love of God don't let this become another cult classic.
@Linkstrikesback "Yeah, Smartglass and Vita support say otherwise. Cheap? Not at all, but they both have the ability to support dual screen gameplay if a developer wants to."
The Wii U tablet is part of the system and feels completely natural. Smartglass is utter garbage and having to buy a vita on top of the PS3 is not an option for me. So yes the Wii U does have an advantage there.
"Well yeah, no duh. There's also a ton being missed if you don't have a gaming PC, or are planning on not getting a PS4 or an Xbone. The only way to not miss anything is to get all the consoles, everyone has great exclusives."
I have a PC as do most people. You may miss a few exclusives on the other consoles but most of the good stuff comes out on PC. Nintendo's system in my opinion is the ultimate complement for a PC. I'm always shifting back and forth from my PC to my Wii U and don't feel I'm missing out at all. And no you don't need a "Gaming" machine to play the good games nowadays. Games nowadays scale very well with what's out there. They have to if they hope to move games in high volume.
However Nintendo's secret weapon has been and always will be their exclusives. With the right release schedule they can really make hardware move.
I don't know about you guys but I really do feel there's something special about the Wii U. I didn't feel the same regarding the Wii to be honest. I love the tablet controller, the graphical interface, and am really looking forward to upcoming games.
@theblackdragon You're right. I had a moment of weakness. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. All the negative Wii U comments I've seen online recently wore me down I suppose. =)
It took 2 years for the PS3 and XBox 360 to gain their stride. It's much more difficult to judge a home consoles success solely on the first year. Let a couple of Christmas seasons pass and we'll then see how things are truly shaping up. I personally believe we'll see a Wii U turnaround =)
This is VERY GOOD NEWS!!! With the other triple AAA titles coming out later in the year, I have a good feeling we're about to witness a serious turn around. We saw it with the 3DS and we'll see it here.
@Peach64 No offence Peach but you're coming across as someone who doesn't like to see others in a positive mood. Doesn't matter if you're being realistic or not. Most of us are happy to hear this news. Why can't you just accept that and stop with the negativity already. At least try some constructive criticism instead of out right negativity. You're really starting to come across as a troll at this point.
If you really care about this system you should aim to stay positive and help to convince others around you to support this system. The negativity doesn't help anyone. As a huge fan of Nintendo I do what I can to convince people around me to support them and attitudes like your are a huge turn off.
I was on my PC playing online with a friend the other day and happened to mention Monster Hunter for the Wii U. He then replied with "Wii U? Is that different than the Wii?". Nintendo isn't just doing a bad job of explaining the appeal. They're doing a HORRIBLE job of getting the word out in the first place. They NEED TO ADVERTISE IN A CLEAR & CONCISE WAY!!! It's so frustrating to watch this epic fail of marketing. I'd take a commercial with a guy sitting on a desk verbally explaining the system at this point. Just tell people the system is much more powerful then the existing Wii, supports full HD, backwards compatible with Wii games and hardware, and it has an integrated tablet. Peak peoples curiosity and they'll learn the rest on their own. That's all you really need to do to sell this thing folks!!
Dear God, an organization will have a good and bad times. Nintendo will not always be on fire. The Wii U has only been out for 6 months and people are acting like it's the end of Nintendo as we know it. I like Iwata and I hope he never steps down.
That was great BUT they missed one key selling feature. Backwards compatibility with you full Wii library & accessories! That's a big one for allot of folks out there. It also couldn't have hurt to show a more adult oriented game as well along side Mario 3D. Either way the publicity can't hurt.
@GamerJunkie Hey, if you think $20 is steep, guess what, don't buy it!!! That's how you really get back at Nintendo. I'll personally wait and get the green box. I am a collector and I am thrilled Nintendo is giving me the choice. Thanks Nintendo!!! Oh and BTW considering how negative all your comments are, why don't you just go and sell your Wii U, move on, and be done with it?? You're just so damn angry all the time. Take a chill pill dude!
At least with my Wii U I know that I OWN my game library. I know that it will work in 10, 20, 30 years time. I'm not completely sold on this all digital revolution. The XBox one pretty much sums up everything I hate. I'm staying far, far away from that abomination.
If anything a less powered system forces the developer to focus on substance over style. And wow are the budgets for some of these games getting WAY out of hand. 1 game should never mean make or break for a developer. You really are seeing the most innovation coming out of the smaller indie developers.
I'm still in shock over the XBox one reveal. They've essentially turned the xbox into a rental service. Imagine never owning a single game in your library? Thanks Nintendo for sticking up for gamers everywhere!
@GiftedGimp Well some of us are collectors and for a collector a digital copy just doesn't cut it. What happens if my Wii U dies 10 years down the road? All my physical copies will work just fine on a replacement. How would you get your digital content back if the servers are down? If given a choice, I'll always get a retail copy for those reasons.
I'm so sick of this Nintendo bashing. The Wii was a HUGE success as is the 3DS. Things are a little rocky in regards to the Wii U and now all of the sudden Nintendo NEEDS to drop hardware???? I do however feel Nintendo needs to do a better job in terms of promoting themselves. I don't remember the last time I saw a decent commercial from Nintendo that didn't come across as being corny.
Nintendo is the last real gaming company making hardware. Sony and MS would love it if they left the hardware business. I really get suspicious when I hear big wigs like Peter making comments like these. Especially when competitors are just around the corner. Anyways I personally believe Nintendo's hardware and software go hand in hand. It just wouldn't be the same playing Mario on another machine. It will be a sad day if Nintendo ever leaves the hardware business. I'll probably stick with PC Gaming if that ever happens.
