Here's the statement:
Regarding the PC Engine Core Grafx mini console and its peripheral accessories, the manufacturing and shipping facilities in China have encountered an unavoidable suspension due to the current Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. I stil plan to get one but later from the sound of it and early pre orders should get dibs.
I'll get one later, after some positive reviews come out and some months go by. Unless they release a really small number of units and prices start to skyrocket...
I ordered mine in time to receive it on the 19th. Somehow I feel this mini console will not be a huge success.
I'd forgotten all about this one, I'll definitely be picking one up after launch if not just for Rondo of Blood
@Gwynbleidd the price is what makes this the most interesting mini console yet.
@jobvd
Probably right
its almost entirely unknown, outside Japan.
@Gwynbleidd
It's cheaper then an actual PC Engine and all the games included.
I pre-ordered mine a year ago but I'm not worried if I don't get it this month. What I am still surprised and a little bummed about is that they didn't include Keith Courage in Alpha Zones. It's a weird little title that was a pack-in when I bought the TG-16 in the U.S. Was it good? No. But nostalgia is a powerful thing. Still, the TG-16 had some really enjoyable games and I'll be glad to have one of the Minis of my own at some point.
@AirElephant The Japanese version of Keith Courage was based on an anime, so I wonder if that's the reason why it's not present - they might not have been able to renew the licence?
@Gwynbleidd Considering the number of games present (and the stature of those games) I think the price is fine. And I'm sure wireless controllers will be released by a third-party (8bitdo, most likely) in the future. Nintendo and Sega's classic consoles came with wired pads, too, so it's hardly like Konami is slacking off in this regard.
I have been considering cancelling my pre-order as I guess I don't really need another mini console... Given the price it is possible to get burned on products like this as an early adopter (see Neo Geo Mini, PS classic).
This just complicates the decision!
@Damo it’s true! I’ve seen the show, all the episodes and the game is very very close to the source material. You couldn’t change things around, jack it and reissue it. The ending also has a copyrighted song in it. On the upside a new Wataru anime is coming soon!
Half price in six months
i think the price is very reasonable, if you bought the console and all those games.....it would cost an absolute ton! the cost of each game equates to £1.75 each.....thats including the console itself in the price. I think you would be very hard pushed to aquire even 1 PC engine game at that price
I preordered mine a week ago and I’m pretty new to this whole system. I love rondo of blood and the adventure island, military madness, and it has a good handful of shooters. I’m fine with the price but I could see this going down in price someday. With m2 doing the emulation I’m sure will get quality so it’s worth it to me. I do hope I can add some games to it. There’s a few missing games I’d like such as both legendary axes, bloody wolf, gate of thunder, and I’d like to try street fighter on this system. Dunno how it’d be with just two buttons but it looks good.
I'm curious but waiting for a price drop. Can't commit to a $100+ system when I honestly don't know how good the games are. (Didn't even know the Turbografx existed until the early 2010s due to youtube and I've been gaming since 1990 on NES.)
I was tempted but to me it’s just more unnecessary clutter that I’ll probably play for 2 days and that’ll be it. My SNES mini just collects dust.
Woo, this gives me more time to learn Japanese so I’m not teased by games—namely Snatcher—that I can’t play.
I’m still trying to figure out why Konami would include such a treasure of a game without a translation.
Oooh damn now all units are delayed.
Coronavirus effecting EVERYBODY AND EVERYTHING!
@Gwynbleidd Rondo of Blood costs far more on eBay, let alone insanely expensive ultra rare shooters like Sapphire (which is also on the mini).
As a value proposition, it's absurdly cheap.
I was actually looking forward to this release. Too bad I won't get it on March 19, but nothing to do about it besides waiting for it to be eventually released.
@Rodan2000
Same here, but I still intend to get it even if just to help decorate my room together with my other minis. I just get such a feeling of nostalgia out of every single time I look at those little machines.
I pre-ordered back in July....just hope they give us a heads up so I can make sure I have $100.00 in my bank account when it ships! Having all 3 16-bit mini consoles was too good to pass up. Just wish we had English patches for Rondo and Snatcher... : /
What is interesting is the Amazon listing (which is the exclusive outlet for this unit in the United States) says nothing about the delay as of 9 a.m. EST (UTC-5) on March 6.
However, the unit and its accessories — instead of being up for pre-sale — are listed as not available and Amazon is unsure when/if they will become available again.
And I just finished paying for the pre-order! I say Konami should just do what SEGA does with their classics: Release a TurboGrafx-16/PC Engine Classics Collection with only the Hudson/Konami Titles included. At least it can be put on the Switch Digitally! I never really bothered to resort to emulation for TG-16, but it looks like I'm stuck with the SEGA Genesis Mini, the NES Classic, SNES Classic and the NEOGEO Mini International for Mini Systems with games on them.
rondo of blood on its own costs a minimum of £165 on ebay, so I think any claims of this being too expensive are pretty unfair
@lemonjellydude Just buy the PS4 Version with Symphony of the Night. It's cheaper at $10. I'm gonna just buy CodeName: S.T.E.A.M. for 5 bucks to soften the blow.
@Gwynbleidd Yeak cause all the other mini consoles have wireless controllers???
TURBO GRAFX -16
I was wavering in whether to get the Core Grafx or the PC Engine mini (don’t like the size of the TG16 mini), but decided I’d rather play Salamander than Far East of Eden 2 and Tokimeki Memorial, so I cancelled my PC Engine last week. I do still have my TG16 preorder, so I guess that’s the one I’m getting. I don’t care much if it’s delayed, but don’t want to get stuck without one.
I pre ordered this last week. I’m fine with the delay. Better safe than sorry.
This is amazing for me since I wanted one and cannot afford it now lol.
@YANDMAN My Genesis mini has wireless controllers , 8bitdo for the win!
@Jokerwolf yep, and you bought them. Do those things actually work now then? As i know the initial ones released although stated, did not work on the system. 8bitdo megadtrive conytroller is without doubt the best one ever made.
@YANDMAN Ya man, I absolutely love the M30, feels amazing and works amazing. 8bitdo updated all their controllers firmware to make them compatible with the Genesis mini, and will very likely do the same once this one is out since it uses basic USB connections like the Genesis Mini.
My mom thinks I shouldn't order anything coming from China, because of the risk of Coronavirus. If I cancel my pre-orders on all the stuff, I'll be left with $266 in Gift Card Balance, that I'd end up forcing myself to buy an XBox One S with Rare Replay. SHOULD I?
This has Ginga Fukei Densetsu Sapphire on it.
I haven't looked but I'm pretty sure the hardware alone to play that game costs more than this, never mind what the game itself costs!
@Gwynbleidd yeah fair point. Im just thinking the shambolic ps1 mini & rather good megadrive ones are still out there with good discounts👍
@Damo I've been told it was exactly for that reason.
@YoshiAngemon Keep your orders and if you're really worried about it just dont open the package for 2 weeks.
@Blister Well you picked the two worst minis so far. especially the PS Mini.
Well, that sucks. I've been trying to order a PC Engine for months.
@Beatley82 Yeah, but truthfully, they won't ship it until the Coronavirus is not an issue. So I have to wait a lot longer, like until July if that. Anyone know of a good emulator?
@Gwynbleidd
But I son;t want the original gear
I just want an official way to play, all these games in one spot with out paying an arm and a leg for them.
Because whether you agree or not, this machine is far cheaper then buying an actual PC Engine and all 58 games seperate.
Christ, people really are overreacting to this whole Coronavirus thing imo.
A handful of old foggies have died from it (yeah, I know it's actually a handful of handfuls, and maybe a handful of the deaths weren't even old foggies, but the gist of my point is true), yet the flu kills like 650,000 people every year and we don't go shutting down entire industries because of it--so why exactly are we making such a fuss over the Coronavirus.
This is just starting to get annoying.
@impurekind Remember the Osaka Flu? Well, of course you wouldn't! But the fact that it is more serious than the Flu itself would be why it would be enough to delay, even cancel events due to the Coronavirus! Honestly, I don't know.
@YoshiAngemon I do remember: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hqCVB0tOSVQ
@YoshiAngemon
Not really needed. If you want you can buy a used turbo duo r for like 200 pound or slightly more. Then you'll need just a an everdrive for the cartridges and some blank cds... A nice CRT old TV will cost you no more than 30 quid. Let's say with 250 you'll have a real system with potentially all the games you'll need.
Looking at the official site it seems like the PC Engine mini preorders made before today will ship on 3/19. The TurboGrafx and CoreGrafx will not. Now I’m really kicking myself for cancelling just 3 days ago.
This is a shame as I pre-ordered mine June or July last year, I've been looking forward to it. If I get one on time that will be nice but if it gets delayed then fair enough. The world is going crazy over this nasty illness and it's a shame but hopefully it'll be yesterdays news soon.
@Joekun I doubt you'd be kicking yourself, because any pre-orders are put on hold, and everyone has to wait a while for their product, due to the CoronaVirus. If what you said was the case, then I wouldn't have these thoughts of cancelling my pre-orders in favor of Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
@YoshiAngemon There are 3 models, the TurboGrafx Mini, the CoreGrafx Mini, and the PC Engine mini. The official site says that the TurboGrafx and the CoreGrafx have been delayed. But on both the official site and Amazon Japan it says (in Japanese) that PC Engine Mini orders placed on or before March 5th are planned for delivery on March 19th.
Actually I just realized that if you read the tweet from the story carefully it says exactly what I am saying: “For those who pre-ordered "PC Engine mini" by March 5, 2020, the product will be delivered on March 19, 2020. If you purchased TurboGrafx-16 mini, PC Engine Core Grafx mini, and peripheral devices...it will be delivered on or after March 20, 2020.“ The update to the story is only in regards to the CoreGrafx, but the writer incorrectly says that all models have been delayed.
The guys who bought this are screwed.
Oh I missed that, so if you preordered the turbografx 16 mini before the 6th you still may have to wait? It appears the pc engine buyers are the only ones that could maybe still get theirs on time. Am I right about this? I ordered the turbografx with the power brick and an extra controller.
I'm just glad I hadn't uploaded my rerun episodes for the month on my podcast yet. They were all gonna be TG16/PCE/CGFX themed in celebration of the release. I'll think of something else, I'm sure!
Here's to hoping the delay isn't too long, though. I'm a HUGE fan of the system, and was very excited to get my hands on this!
@kuliddar I'm not salty. I got the PS classic for £13 and with Retro Arch it is an amazing arcade machine.
@Blister Oh yeah for sure. One of the easiest mini to add games to it. For that it's top notch, especially when you get it really cheap.
I really want one of these but I don't want the grey model that will eventually be for sale in the UK. The original white one is the one I used to see in Mean Machines and desperately want as a kid. Importing won't be an issue, the only annoying thing is that they're not packing the Japanese model with a turbo pad. I see they are selling white turbo pads separately though, so I guess I'll get a white one with one normal pad and one turbo.
@kuliddar They are all just as easy to add games to from what I can tell. I honestly kind of regret getting the the Genesis Mini, only becasue the Nvidia shield does everything way better with more power. I do love the minis but they are limiting if you are hacking them.
This would be great to have once its hacked. I can give my real library a little break!
