One of the highlights for many during Nintendo's E3 Direct last month was the announcement the Danganronpa series would be coming to the Nintendo Switch later this year.
Spike Chunsoft has now announced it will bring Danganronpa: Decadence - the four-in-one collection to the system on 4th November in Japan and 3rd of December in North America and Europe. There'll be a standard physical copy for $59.99 USD and a Collector's Edition for $99.99. In Europe, these will be published by Numskull Games.
There'll also be the option to purchase each game separately. The titles included are Trigger Happy Havoc, Goodbye Despair, and Killing Harmony, as well as an expanded standalone Danganronpa board game, Ultimate Summer Camp.
If you're not familiar with this series, below is a summary from the announcement post. Be sure to also check out the video above.
You'll be trapped in a school with a bunch of other students, all of whom are the "best" at things, until one of you mysteriously dies and you'll have to have a trial to figure out who did it. Rinse, and repeat.
Will you be adding this collection to your Switch library later this year? Tell us down in the comments.

That bear(?) face always creeps me out, and I've never played the games as a result.
That bear is horrifying adorable. I'll definitely get this game.
That release timing could end up being pretty good. Something to play over the holiday period where the release schedule dries up.
How do these games compare to Zero Escape (particularly 999 and VLR)? I absolutely loved the story and the escape rooms in them.
Are these game closer to Zero Escape, Ace Attorney or typical VN in terms of gameplay?
I've seen the anime based on the first game. I'd assume the game must be better?
Are all the games from the series represented in this collection?
@JoyBoy Not entirely. All of the visual novels games are accounted for, but this collection is still missing Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls (which is a third- person shooter).
@TsukiDeity it’s basically just slightly more fun ace attorney but with worse writing and a bear
Good thing the spin off are coming to the switch as well.
@Dizzymario exactly how I'd describe them from playing 1, 2 and chapter 1 or V3
Physical release - yes!
All my mates in uni have jumped on the Danganronpa train this year and I've felt peer pressured to get into the franchise. However something about the games has put me off. Maybe it's the character designs (which I personally find unappealing) or the story (which looks like saw if it was on a sugar rush). Hopefully the games prove me wrong and I actually manage to enjoy them in the future.
Great! I've always wanted to give this series a go. I'll play it after Shin Megami Tensei V.
Sweet. Finally gonna check these games out now that they're on Switch.
@BloodNinja It doesn't creep me at all, it just makes me cringe
@Dragwhite Keep at it with V3. That one gets pretty crazy.
This game is Phoenix Wright for kids.
The series was completely off my radar until it was played on GameGrumps.
After buying every game on ps4, I shall buy them all again!
I’m pretty sure it’s the same release date as advance wars, so I’m going to get that instead, but this is definitely on the Christmas list.
@TsukiDeity Gameplay is generally split into four parts: visual novel sections; daily life sections, where you wander around the environment you're trapped in, look for coins and secrets, and choose which characters to spend your time with, which can lead to unique social events and unlocking skills for class trials (think something like social links in a Persona game); investigation sections, which are pretty much like what you'd find in an Ace Attorney game; and class trials, which are like far more dynamic, gameplay-heavy versions of Ace Attorney trials (you'll have to shoot down idle chatter, aim and shoot truth bullets, complete a variety of minigames, engage in rhythm game head-to-head showdowns with the real murderers, etc.)
And yes, even though the first game is probably the worst one in the series, it's still eons better than the anime. Much like with Ace Attorney, the anime adaptation is the worst way to experience it.
As for the tone/style of it, it mixes AA-esque murder mysteries and absurdist humor with ZE-esque speculative and horror elements.
@NoTinderLife How is Danganronpa more for kids than ace attorney? I wish I could post some of the messed up deaths without spoiling it.
@Ralizah of course you're the one who'd explain this the best! It's great to hear the first one is the worst... I'd recommend the package for that one alone! (Just started 2...it's start is a bit slow to me, but I already love some of the characters! Waiting for the first murder to happen... Any day now! )
@Jasonmd the literal start of 1 is enough! To infinity and beyond! 😳😂
Ah a nice heartwarming series of games to see us through the winter.
Same day as Advance Wars means I won't get these at launch, but I will get them down the line.
@TsukiDeity you already got a pretty amazing description. I'd like to add that it's got that great atmosphere I loved in the zero escape games.
@BloodNinja That's kinda the point.
@Jasonmd Danganronpa is essentially
Ace Attorney + Anime + Among US + Persona
I can’t wait to get this. Looking forward to it if it runs well enough
It baffles me how they can leave out Ultra Despair Girls. It is absolutely necessary to play it before V3!
@GameOtaku Ultra Despair Girls literally has no connection to the plot of V3 whatsoever.
@garfreek The first game has its fans, of course, but even people who prefer that one readily admit the trial writing in DR2 is vastly better. Add in a more interesting setting, a fan-favorite cast, much needed world-building, and a better tonal balance between the horror and absurdist humor the series is known for, and you get one of the best games in the series.
V3 is a bit controversial due to the final trial, and some of the cast is not my favorite, but it also has some of the best trials in the series, and is thematically one of the most interesting games I've ever played. Without the extensive post-game content (that was expanded and integrated into its own game in this collection), it takes second place for me, but it's still really, really good.
@Ralizah @garfreek Thanks for the info, it's very much appreciated!
@SlySnake0407 december 3rd is still fall...
Looking forward to the series on the Switch. Ideal for the console.
So when does the digital versions of these games come out? Same day as the physical copy or no
@BloodNinja Monokuma? Yea he does look kind of creepy especially with the Two-Face kind of design a bit
@NoTinderLife HOW?????
If I remember correctly, Ace Attorney has an E rating or E10+ rating but Danganronpa has an M rating.
Ofc it depends on your region, I am in the USA so we have the ESRB system but still
Danganronpa has more blood than Ace Attorney and it is about students in a high school age killing each other
@anoyonmus More blood doesn't mean it's mature, you said it - it's high school kids killing each other, how juvenile is that?
Ace Attorney is a more grown up game without those teens yapping voices and lame jokes.
@NoTinderLife just look at the ratings for both games and see what you find out
@anoyonmus Rating means nothing - it's just legislation. Teenagers like blood and gore while adults have more fun with family games like Mario or Zelda. You will understand when you are an adult.
@NoTinderLife but have you even seen the content in Danganronpa? May too mature than what Ace Attorney had. Ace Attorney had more comedy and it’s better for kids. Heck even on internet, people say that people that are like 10 years old shouldnt play Danganronpa and instead or advised to play like Ace Attorney. But Danganronpa is more darker tone and plenty of language
@anoyonmus Kids these days have played violent games and even seen adult videos on the internet, Danga is not shocking to them at all. You should know. When you are older you will enjoy less violent games.
