Gates to Infinity was quite good. I finished the game, but didn't "catch 'em all". Still, it was a worthwhile time. I'll probably get this eventually, but I suspect that Gates to Infinity was just as good for the most part.
I'm in for Kirby Return to Dreamland, because I want them to continue to bring Wii games to Wii U for download, and I haven't played it yet. Rune Factory 4 also interests me, but Atlus has spoiled me with 9.99 full games on 3DS eshop lately (Devil Summoner, Devil Survivor, Etrian Odyssey) so I'm backlogged anyway.
@c1pher_c0mplet I own a ton of amiibo and Nintendo products, but I'm not crazy about their implementation in games either. It's silly to shoehorn stuff into just lock it behind amiibo. It's likewise silly to lock relevant challenges or missions behind amiibo. If they want to pull those kinds of stunts, then they should create a free download game that is compelling enough to make people want to scan in their amiibo. But locking features in full price retail releases just points to bad decision making.
This game is okay, I haven't fully dived into it. I'm not crazy about their amiibo implementation in the game so far. I'm confused why I can't use my special cards in place of their figure equivalent in the main board game mode. Amiibo is just a fad right now, it's on Nintendo to make the use of them compelling in the game, and placing arbitrary limits points to poor use of existing amiibo in the future. What good is your Isabelle amiibo festival figure, if they're going to make you buy a new one with slightly different outfit to use in the next game? Too expensive to be so limited in use. Maybe if the price drops or they put on the eshop for a discounted price. I don't see this game being a big hit.
Kind of cool to read some varied opinions on the series. Personally I liked the 3DS entry, and haven't dabbled much in any of the others. I've certainly heard about the story mode/RPG elements that have existed in the series, and I typically like those things very much in games. Like the Subspace Emissary story in Smash Bros Brawl-- for those who find value in a strong single player experience that builds on the base game in unexpected ways, these are so crucial once you come to expect them from a series. And when they are left out completely, it just feels lazy.
Well, I think this is a step in the right direction for NoA. I think it's unfortunate we lack an equivalent option to buying directly from Nintendo like in the UK, but this is at least something. It looks like mostly standard game and hardware offerings at their MSRP, and some refurbished options. Nothing to get too excited about. It'd be a cool way for them to sell some things that are not normally available in North America, like the Ambassador New 3DS or the Animal Crossing Amiibo series 1 collector albums.
There are also badges that actually function to open specific apps (Camera, Download Play, Mii Plaza, Activity Log, System Settings) with Mario characters on them... kind of a fun way to fancy up some specific icons, not just the folders. While I like the game, I'm not tempted at all to spend money on it, but I'm already hooked on Pokemon Shuffle, so the free to start model can work well.
Also, I invested in a lot of the amiibo cards, I have a full set of series 1, plus 85 cards towards a second set. I'm looking forward to amiibo festival if only to have something worthwhile to use them with, hopefully. They weren't really that useful in HHD. I'm not even really sure what they do besides calling the character, I tried saving to it but I haven't verified that the house design is saved to the amiibo. Maybe I'm the idiot for buying into this fad? I enjoyed HHD but the amiibo functionality was pretty tacked on and useless.
I have a pre order for amiibo festival, but I wanted a cheaper download option as well so that I could play the game and decide if it's worth it before opening the 60 dollar bundle (which I'd rather keep in nice condition as a collectible, I have Mario Party 10 and Chibi Robo this way, haven't played either because the reviews were terrible.)
So I'm not seeing any pre-purchase info for amiibo festival on the eshop. There's an option to pre-purchase the Mario tennis game which comes out on 11/20. There's a link to the E3 trailer in the upcoming games section, but no actual info page for the game, which leads me to think the rumor is true that the game WON'T be available for digital purchase. I think that's a bad decision. We've gone from the unconfirmed rumor that Nintendo would offer the eshop version for free (which almost made sense, but didn't really make sense) to the glaring reality that they may not offer an eshop version whatsoever.... ? What the?
"The recent amiibo cards can be used to add residents to the board game's town or unlock mini-games, but figures are needed to play." I'm not sure that's an entirely accurate statement. From what I've read, the non-special amiibo cards work this way, but the special amiibo cards should function the same as their figure counterparts (i.e. the special amiibo cards are the characters who will get figures made of them eventually). Of course, I don't have confirmation of this, but if my Digby amiibo card doesn't function as a Digby amiibo in amiibo festival, then I will lose all faith in Nintendo.
My family has been watching playthrough by Zack Scott of this game on youtube. The game looks fun, and we will get it eventually. Like others, I'm more interested in getting sets of licenses I'm interested in (DC, LotR, Simpsons, Dr. Who, Back to the Future) than trying to get 'em all. I don't have spare time or money for Lego Dimensions at the moment, but some day.
So much of this seems so ill conceived. I live in a house where it's actually practical to play with 2 others local play pretty much anytime I want to, and I still find this game's gimmick unappealing. Especially when 4 Swords already existed, and they let us download it for that one day a couple years ago.... ? Shaking my head...
Just want to add my 2 cents: I used to strictly prefer physical copies, but since getting a cheap external hard drive for my Wii U, I much prefer downloading. It's just less of a hassle if I feel like playing a game for a few minutes, I don't have to switch out the game disc, and I feel pretty secure that those digital purchases will remain active for the indefinite future, and probably transfer over to the next console in some way, as they did with Wii to Wii U upgrade purchase for reduced price. The only major argument I could see against downloading games is the somewhat limited built in memory on the Wii U. But you still have to download a few huge games before you run out of space completely.
In the details above, it says Genre: Adventure, RPG
Does this involve RPG elements? This game has looked intriguing but the gameplay itself sounds a bit dumbed down. Needless combat? As only a casual viewer of the show, I'm in no hurry to pick it up. Looks like a fantastic 3D world to explore though.
Playing Persona Q (again) right now, just started Persona 3 FES and just finished Persona 4, so the game makes a LOT more sense now. And it's fantastic.
I was able to pre order two of these from Amazon UK for delivery to America for about 40 US dollars total (I think it was 28 or 29 GBP). I'll probably pre order a couple more from Australia if I can find them. They are sure to sell out.
This editorial is true. Sony has all the momentum right now. Their recent price cut on the PS4 combined with some interesting titles and exclusives makes it a pretty good value proposition. Personally, I have a 500 GB PS3 and love it, so I'm putting off buying the PS4 as long as possible. But if I didn't I would really think about getting a PS4 very soon.
I liked the demo, though I thought it was too short. I had finally gotten my party to a good place, and then there was nothing left to do. i thought it was fun to move the equipment around to the different characters to see how they would level up using it, so that made the focus on battle over story more palatable.
Picking up Chibi Robo tomorrow. Disappointed we didn't get Mario Sports Mix like Europe, but it's cool I can wait. As long as North America gets it eventually
I played SMT IV for a few hours and enjoyed it, but eventually was a bit difficult (boss battles, specifically) and I lost interest in the story. Recently played Persona 4 on PS3 and enjoyed it a lot more. I guess I found it more relatable, and the battle animations are so good (like Kanji hitting enemies with a folding chair, for example). Persona Q did a good job of recreating that while not being able to show all the characters on screen at all times.
I don't mind retailer exclusives, but toys R us is terrible at handling their exclusive amiibo. They never put up pages for them on their site. Lucario was never available online from them to my knowledge. Same for Bowser Jr, but I didn't check for that one after release day. Searching for said amiibo on their website would always bring up either no search results or something completely irrelevant. So I guess exclusives are good for toys r us, because otherwise I would never walk into one of their stores.
@Spoony_Tech In Persona Q, you have save slots on the cart, but you can also save to the system's SD card. Given that tech exists, it's kind of stupid that any game would limit you to saving on their cartridge, or limit you to one file.
I've got a copy of Zip Lash pre ordered because I think it looks fun, but I'm getting so much platforming in Mario Maker already. This is one of several upcoming 3DS games that I'm actually eager to try out, but after reading the preview of Tri Force Heroes, I'm bracing for a little disappointment. That's okay though.
Fantasy Life multiplayer was a big hit in our house. 3 players is how many we have, so I'm sure I'll pick this up eventually, but not super hyped for it. I'll probably wait for the further details in the forthcoming review. Excellent preview though. The cute cartoony style of the menus is fantastic!
@Nerevar I feel Nintendo's done a decent job of avoiding the negative trends of the gaming industry (up until now, and the sucess of amiibo), specifically microtransactions and overpriced DLC. They definitely have strong mascot brand recognition, so it's hard to pass up making a lot money cashing in, selling trinkets and whatnot (look at Angry Birds/Rovio, that stuff is everywhere). Konami isn't even going to make non-mobile device games, other than metal gear online. The times they are a chaingin. I don't think it's all bad though.
Yeah this series is too good to let it vanish into obscurity. Game & Wario wasn't even half bad, I got it for my annual elite platinum Club Nintendo reward that last go around, because I had all the other full games on offer. Gamer is hilarious, but I enjoyed several of the other games as well. I can understand the complaints that it wasn't as good as previous Wario entries, so maybe it should have been like a 29.99 intro price and then 19.99 eshop game with occasional sales. Still, it's alright. I liked Smooth Moves a lot, and even the old GBA Mega Microgames gets a lot of play to this day on our 3DS virtual console. No reason not to make another Wario game eventually.
Whether or not this is a copyright violation, whatever the intent of the creators even if it was "homage", this just seems like an industry no-no. It just reeks of desperation, which doesn't even make sense since Disney Infinity is an established brand in its own right. Squid Wars? Seriously? "Ink Wars" or "Paint Wars", those would have made sense... Squid wars just makes it a slap in the face, since there seem to be no squids involved.
@SomeBitTripFan "User generated content for a free game doesn't really bother me, but when developers are doing it without any known consent and plastering if up on their Twitter" Yeah, this. If a user had made it, I would be more open to it, since it would be a non-interested party infringing on Nintendo's I.P. Disney has a reputation for being a copyright troll so this seems very hypocritical. However, I doubt this was even okayed by anyone in upper management at Disney, but I assume someone from legal would have looked things over.
This game was alright, but disappointing for the series after the GBA games. I would definitely still buy it if it was released on Wii U eshop in NA, since I sold my copy a couple years ago.
Not sure if it's been mentioned, but this particular title had a counterintuitive mechanic where you would get replacement units if some of your units died, and the replacement units were actually better than the original units, so it's kind of in your best interest to purposefully sacrifice your characters early on to get the hidden secret characters. It kind of annoyed me at the time when I discovered that on the walkthrough. It's just so counterintuitive for a Fire Emblem game.
Bought the game this morning (physical copy) and we've been playing it all day, only working on a few levels, but playing many different creations. Very curious to see how successful this is in terms of sales, because I think they hit a home run. The best is always yet to come.
I like the art style, it's definitely different from what we expect now after years of evolution. It reminds me of the cartoon series that aired on the Super Mario Super Show, but more so the cartoons made from Super Mario World and Super Mario Bros. 3
I bought this yesterday and have enjoyed the first few levels. It's exactly what I thought it would be, but if it really is 20 hours long then it's a great value for the buyer. I like the graphics a lot, but I wish there was a way to zoom in (like you could in FF Tactics) to see the detail when the characters are crowded together. Or to rotate the battlefield 90 degrees to get another perspective (like you could in FF Tactics).
I'm waiting on this for now because I have the previous two Etrian Odyssey 3ds games still to play, as well as Persona Q. This definitely looks good though. Still looking forward to making more progress in the demo.

Re: Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold is Out Now in North America, and Sure Has a Lot of DLC
I'm waiting on this for now because I have the previous two Etrian Odyssey 3ds games still to play, as well as Persona Q. This definitely looks good though. Still looking forward to making more progress in the demo.

" anyone funding their futures in the weird underbelly of Cubic Ninja sales will be out of luck." Hahahaha, brilliant sentence here!
