The 3DS HOME Theme shop in Japan has plenty of additions every week, a number of which will never make it to the West. Some feature boy and girl bands, amazingly, while others are for titles that haven't been localised yet, but can sure be pretty to look at.
This is an example that we think will make it to the West though, as it's a reproduction of the awesome original Super Mario Bros. artwork. It's pretty much the perfect theme to have on your 3DS for the 30th Anniversary celebrations.
We'd put decent money on this one coming to the West; will you pick it up if it does?

The classic art work is a little confusing but still looks great
For free? Yes. 2€? No way.
Themes to me are just something that should be given away for free or purchased w/ coins or as pre-order bonuses in Club Nintendo, if only the US had a Club Nintendo. How do they not have it up and running yet? Why did the close the old one so early?
Theme is nice, I'd take it, but won't buy it.
This looks amazing, I want it!
@KirbyKirbyKirby What's so confusing about the artwork? It's just classic Super Mario lol
i will be getting it but i have a feeling it will be about 2.49 with tax. It's a bit too expensive for my tastes, hence why i've hardly downloaded any themes lately. I stick with the third party themes because usually they are cheaper.
@Murduskull I think they mean they'd find it a little too busy with all the icons and game info swirling around too... Maybe.
Ahh... good times... good times...
@rjejr I made the same argument when the themes first started coming out and someone (don't remember who specifically) here attacked me saying that I didn't know how much work goes into programming the themes. You bring up a great point about Club Nintendo too.
I think the free themes act as the best advertising and more often then not, gamers want the themes to games that they already spent $35-$60 on. Also, since there is no Club Nintendo anymore, the least they could do is reward us with free themes!
I doubt I spend the money, but I will say that this theme is one of my favorites so far.
@dkxcalibur I always get that reply as well, hasn't stopped me from constantly posting my opinion though. And this particular theme just screamed out to me - Buy SMM on Wii U, get this theme on 3DS. I don't think Nitneod does enough cross promoting the 2 systems. Charging 99 cents to use your 3DS as a controller for SSBU is not the way to go about promoting the two. And charging $20 for Mario vs DK Tipping Stars when the previous iteration was $10, and then saying it's a "buy 1 get 1 free" offer, wasn't much better. I don't mind their "buy both for $19.99" advertising, I just don't like the use of the word free when I have to pay. They use both versions on the webpage, even they don't know if it's 2 for $20 or B1G1 free.

I heard it is releasing in the NA territory today, I will gladly fork over whatever amount of money for it.
I was thinking of getting it until I saw how different Bowser looked in the top screen image. He looks terrible. It also doesn't make sense that Bowser in the bottom screen is his current design. I guess I'll never get a decent Bowser theme on my 3DS.
I like the art style, it's definitely different from what we expect now after years of evolution. It reminds me of the cartoon series that aired on the Super Mario Super Show, but more so the cartoons made from Super Mario World and Super Mario Bros. 3
It's a shame they only let you shuffle up to 10 favorite themes, so really, at this point, I'd have to remove one from rotation to buy any new ones, making me less likely to get new themes...
@bofis this is true but you have tha thome menu saving thing whatever that is, maybe that will treet theme managment differently?
I own all Animal crossing an pikachu themes to this date, as well as all free themes and a few others.
are there any other themes that do the SMB theme? Not really kene on this one but might pick up a different one if this song is offered in it...
@Freelance There's always custom themes that will cover your needs
@rjejr You are right. And the DSi Ware Mario vs. DK was even cheaper (€8).
If Nintendo is celebrating its 30th anniversary I don't mind paying €40 for Super Mario Maker, because it's proper software which I was expecting Nintendo selling at €60, but these goodies (themes, etc.) should be free.
