Nintendo has confirmed today that it is releasing a new Wii U premium bundle which contains two of the console's most critically-acclaimed titles, Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon.
The pack - which will be a limited-time offer - contains the standard black premium Wii U console with 32GB of storage and all the usual accessories, as well as a pre-installed copy of Mario Kart 8 and a download code for Splatoon. It launches across Europe on October 30th.
MCV is reporting that the bundle will cost £239.99.

Sweet bundle! Shame I bought mine on launch date for full price.... Oh wait, no! BEST PURCHASE EVER!!!
If they price it right - 300 € max - it might sell well!
@G0dlike same here
Awesome bundle! But I already got my standard premium pack Wii U.
nice bundle, but a bit to late for me
Hopefully it will be priced the same as the previous 32GB bundles with 1 game,or ideally even cheaper.If they end up adding 20 or 30 pound on top then there's no point.
A strong final push to anyone who might have still been fence sitting or maybe couldn't afford a Wii U when those games first came out.
I think after this holiday season and this bundle, can probably definitively say anyone who was ever likely to get a Wii U will have already got one.
Watch it be like €350.-
The unfortunate thing about these bundles is they'll launch at RRP. You've been able to get the MK8 bundle at around £180 for over a year now, and Splatoon is frequently sold for under £20, but this will be £250 to begin with.
The MK8 bundle is £249.99 at the Nintendo store,what's the bet this will be £269.99 at least.
This would never shift in large quantities at that price as you can get an equivalent cheap by buying things separately.
@Lycidas I say €249 is the sweet price around now for this new bundle since its a limited time offer, for now. I can get a ps4 with MGS5 or PES or Fifa (or 2 of said games) included now for €329 in Ireland.
@readyletsgo
I agree on the 249€ price point. 299€ just don't sell.
@Splatburst yeah, most people see it as a last gen system at the end of the day. Time for Nintendo to bite the bullet bill and sell the system at €159/199, get the system into homes around the world, promote the cheap price and the games will sell themselves, profit! But they won't do that. Keep it at a sky high price no one will pay (except for the small hardcore (prob about 6million of us) fan base).
But again, they have given up on the WiiU (quite rightly too) and are now focusing on the NX behind closed doors for a possible launch late next year, just hope they get the pricing right.
I haven't turned my WiiU on all summer, Splatoon and Mario Make just didn't hold my attention long enough, now waiting on Project Zero and XCX and that's kinda it. I'll get Star Fox and Zelda on the NX at launch ;p .
If they included Super Smash Bros as well at this price, that bundle would be a killer. Right now it's priced too high
Hmm, methinks I'll hold out till GIR#FE gets its recently-announced-for-Japan bundle in Yurop and THEN get that and whatever games I've missed in the interim.
Just curious how Nintendo confirmed this today - tweet, Facebook, press release, YouTube vid? I'm guessing it was NoE since this is a Europe deal. I doubt it was an in store ad 3 weeks in advance, wouldn't be doing current Wii U sales any good.
Glad to see them making the effort, nice package. Has any body purchased Splatoon recently? I'm wondering how long it would take for Callie and Marie to go over every weapon and stage added since launch, or if they skip that these days?
I'm still shocked that the Wii U is selling for little less than PS4 and XBox One. The GameCube was an advanced console with better capabilities than PS2 and at the end it was sold for €99 including superb games like Double Dash!! or The Wind Waker, because it was not as successful as PS2. The Wii U is still young but very underpowered and commercially is a failure. Plus, NX has been already announced by Nintendo (don't mix announcing with presenting). I bought the Wii U two months after it was released, it was the first Nintendo home console that I didn't get at launch. Actually, I got the Wii before launch because I had a close friend working at the right place, so it's not like I don't appreciate Nintendo consoles, but the Wii U has been surrounded by daft decisions from the very start until the end of its days.
Wow that is totally awesome !
That is an amazing bundle...put both of the games that have legs in one pack....Plus they are very opposing types of games to keep players interested. If this comes to the us I'm hyping it to my buddies.
The lead up to Christmas Nintendo will do well selling these bundles, I think if there are people thinking 'shall I buy a Wii-U? I don't know' I'd say now is the time to buy one and if you don pick one up you won't regret it. If the pack was Splatoon and Mario Party 10 I would have been annoyed as I recently bought a Brawl bundle with a physical copy and it's the white edition.I have two now one for the lounge and for the spare room.
Amazing combo =-o
No one in their right mind would buy a Wii u, especially now. The console is worse than the Wii and GameCube combined. Just get a ps4 and you can thank me later
And so very few will ever know about its existence... seriously, how could Nintendo not even manage to get 30% of Wii owners to upgrade to WiiU?
Sweet bundle! Both are amazing games!
@Nerevar
Watch out, the PS4 trolls are a trollin'
@VanillaLake They want to make money.That's why there's no price drop.If they sell it at a loss the make negative money.On a side note I wish people would stop it withe the NX is a hybrid thing.What if it turn out that it is a handheld and the Wii U is going to have to stay for a few more years?
Yes, it's a pretty cool bundle and at a decent enough price, but personally, I would like to see it sub £200*, and I also still don't think this is going to sell the Wii U to anyone other than a few remaining/straggling Nintendo fans at this point.
*Seeing as it's coming with digital copies of both the games, which makes it feasible for Nintendo to sell the console at this price with the two games included.
@NandN3ds Well, that could/would work, imo, if Nintendo did something like I'm suggesting: https://www.facebook.com/iNCEPTIONALSOURCE/posts/706543209491500
In fact, my whole idea/strategy for this new "NX" system is partly built around giving the Wii U a significant boost and keeping it alive for quite a few more years to come, via the various methods I detail in the linked article, without the need for a brand new dedicated home console at all.
Unfortunately, I don't think Nintendo is thinking anywhere near along the same lines.
Is there a reason why Mario Kart 8 comes preinstalled, but Splatoon is a download code? I've never understood these configurations.
@3DSWiiUFanatic Well, my thinking is that, first of all, both games are digital only to save Nintendo money. Second, pre-installing one of the games, Mario Kart 8 in this case, means there's something for new owners to play right out the box, without any hassle of setting up online accounts or downloading stuff from the store. Thirdly, making owners have to use the download code to get Splatoon means it encourages them to set up an online account and actually use the various online features of the Wii U. So, it's like a three-pronged approach.
@OorWullie I'm confused by your comment and the comments of a few others speculating on price. It clearly states in the sub-head of this article that it 'Launches this month, costs £239.99'.
Just sayin'. Hope that helps.
@Kirk I just read your article in that link, interesting idea! It would be totally possible and would also fit to Nintendo. Still I somehow doubt it will come to this.
@Tsusasi They must have updated it,earlier it said they were waiting on confirmation.
@OorWullie Ah. I see. Yeah, that's the only sub-head that I saw.
@shani Yeah, based on some of the things Iwata said, I doubt very much that the NX is going to anything like I said.
@Nerevar What's your measurement of worseness? If it's sales, then why did you put the Wii as an example, as it was the best-selling console of last generation. If its hardware power, then why was the GameCube listed, as it was the most powerful console two generations ago. If it's overall quality, then why was it the console of the year according to Forbes?
@NandN3ds Haha man, okay, who knows? Everything about NX is speculation, but we'll find out next year, won't we? In any case, I'm hoping for a new Wave Race and F-Zero game. Only Mario games is starting to get too obvious.
@Kirk
My thoughts exactly. Sub-£200 would have made it a very tempting impulse buy. Still, anyone interested should keep an eye on Hotukdeals as I wouldn't be surprised to see retailers do just that
Great value! But the price is still to high for the average consumer. This bundle at £179 would make an absolute killing! Ok it would cut deep in Nintendo's pockets but it would definitely push the sales sky high.
