Re: Feature: It's Time to Vote for Your 2017 Nintendo Life Game of the Year Awards

3DSWiiUFanatic

Mostly wanted to come and cast a vote for XC2 because I think it's great so far. (Also voted Odyssey and Breath of the Wild because I've played those a ton, obviously both brilliant, and I voted Disgaea 5 on behalf of a good friend of mine who has been playing it.) For 3DS, I voted Ever Oasis and Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows Of Valentia — both games I absolutely loved this year and bought and played ASAP.

Really excited to play this in the future, looks great. Just sinking my teeth into XC2 and still have a ton to do in Odyssey, so those games are going to take all my time for the foreseeable future. Nice to see another unique entry for the Switch library of games.

Re: Grezzo Is Hiring Programmers to Help Make a “Legend”

3DSWiiUFanatic

Legend of Legacy is a really cool game; I assumed it was by the Bravely Default team because it looks similar artistically. I like it because I find it challenging for its genre (I would classify it as a traditional, classical, or "retro" style RPG) but it has cute chibi style characters (including an anthropomorphic Frog)

So anyway, my guess is Legend of Legacy. The first game was not a huge commercial success outside Japan, I don't think, but maybe that resulted in Grezzo having the rights to develop a sequel (i.e. Furyu transferred or forfeited their rights to the IP — this is total speculation on my part, mind you)

Re: Talking Point: The Case for Super Mario Odyssey as the Greatest Mario Game

3DSWiiUFanatic

I agree with pretty much everything this article says about Odyssey, and quoted it/shared on Twitter a little. The game is very accessible, while also still posing a challenge at times for more advanced players. And it's so pretty. I'm reserving judgment until I finish the game, because I do think it has some areas that could have been improved (Metro Kingdom's explorable area should be bigger. I assumed from early trailers it would be huge and act as a sort of hub world. The lack of a big hub world seems like an oversight.)
Also, I think 3D World offers some unique advantages over Odyssey: 4 player co-op, selectable characters with unique jumps or playstyles, while also possessing a lot of the beauty and variety of gameplay that makes Odyssey so outstanding.

Re: Talking Point: An Era Ends As Nintendo Continues to Ignore 3D on the 3DS

3DSWiiUFanatic

I enjoyed the article, and thought Mr. Whitehead brought up excellent examples that used 3D well. However I don't have a problem with them dropping the feature, because personally I don't use it, and it seems a logical step in extending the console's life (with the 2D XL models) and maybe reaching new demographic of younger players who don't want the old 2DS. It's such a great system, the games are fantastic even without 3D.

Re: Talking Point: The Nintendo Switch is Modernising, But Has a Long Way to Go

3DSWiiUFanatic

Odyssey will vindicate the Switch for many, and I'm eagerly awaiting Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (I'd be shocked if that game's not utterly amazing). I don't really have a problem with the slow rollout of features (or arguably new 1st party games) on Switch, since I also have a Wii U and Playstation. I bought the Switch for the eventual Fire Emblem game, and to lesser extent Shin Megami Tensei (which I'm sure will also be amazing)

Re: Limited Run Games Will Publish Physical Copies of Indie Titles On Switch Next Year

3DSWiiUFanatic

Oceanhorn is the one I'm interested in. I've held off on buying any Switch eshop games because I have so many Wii U digital games already.

Would really like to see Earthlock: Festival of Magic come to Switch too. It was great fun on Wii U, technical issues aside. I just made it to the boss but my party wasn't set up right to handle it. It's a bargain for $10, though you're virtually guaranteed to have some freezing, possible corrupted saves or general lost progress. I'd like to see them correct those issues and they could charge their normal price of $20 for the game.

Re: Review: Miitopia (3DS)

3DSWiiUFanatic

I was wondering how the save data transfer from the demo works for this game. Other comments seemed to indicate the game saved to the cartridge, but I was curious if I could import a save from two different 3DS systems' demos, or play the game on two different systems and save to the SD card or something like that.

Re: Pokémon Shuffle Has Passed 6 Million Downloads on 3DS

3DSWiiUFanatic

Thanks for the heads up, I don't play Shuffle as much as I used to (daily) but still try to log in once a week at least and catch the special stages. They've done a good job of bringing back the special stages so people who missed them can still "catch 'em all". I've stopped tackling the main stages at about 350, because they take items/resources/coins to S-rank or catch. Overall I like a lot of the improvements that theyve brought to the game.

There was a time when my wife and son also played the game like I did, and Sunday/Monday nights were an exciting time to see what new stages were added.

I did spend money on jewels during their Buy some get some sale, mostly to support the devs because I played the game so much and loved it.

Re: Super Mario Maker Scoops Amazon Game of the Year Award

3DSWiiUFanatic

Pokemon Shuffle is my ipso facto game of the year. 330 hours logged... it's gotten a bit stale for me lately, I'm currently playing Xenoblade Chronicles 3D (about 40 hours into it, still feel like I've barely scratched the surface, but I like it more as I go) and Final Fantasy XIII.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo is Right to Move On From the Wii Family Name With NX

3DSWiiUFanatic

I just beat Lego City Undercover yesterday. I think it averaged reviews of about 8, or 8.5, which I think is right. But it's a really fun, well made open world GTA for kids with a ton of fun things to do. And it was made with the Wii U in mind, and used the Gamepad pretty well. I recommend it. Fantastic graphics, acceptable load times. The story is slightly less fun than the exploration, but it's a solid game. I beat it with 27 hours on my save, and only about 23% completion, meaning there's a lot more to do in my game.

Re: Circle Entertainment Claims That Nintendo of America Only Allows Up to Four Themes Per 3DS Game

3DSWiiUFanatic

Not that big a deal. As a workaround, I wonder if NoA would let them rotate the other themes onto the shop, so they never had more than 4 at one time, but could still offer them to the consumers eventually.

Now that we have badge arcade, whatever its shortcomings, you can easily spruce up your home menu for free. I've never liked the pricing on the themes. I bought one Mario theme. i bought a couple Atlus themes because they were 99 cents and looked decent. I'm good on themes unless they want to give one away to promote their game.

Re: Shigesato Itoi on the Mother Series' Popularity, Denies Mother 4

3DSWiiUFanatic

I think it's inevitable that Mother 3 will be released in the west, but it might be wishful thinking on my part. I assume it would be on the Wii U vc since they won't put GBA games on the 3DS VC anymore. I'd love a 3DS "remake" or rerelease. Anyway, this snippet is interesting, and kind of sad. I think a new Mother game would be awesome. He mentions the game setting and its similarity to the modern real world, it reminds me of the Persona series, which also does that really well.

I thought the images/video of the Nintendo 64 Mother game looked really cool, so I'd like to see a 3D version of the game, but I'm pretty sure that won't ever happen.

Re: Nintendo Badge Arcade Gets A Mario Kart 8 Turbo Injection

3DSWiiUFanatic

There's quite a few badges on offer now that are pretty lame. I like the idea of Nintendo Badge Arcade, so much so that I would probably buy like a 20 dollar unlocked version (where it wouldn't literally cost hundreds of dollars to collect them all) , but as it is I see no reason to spend money on this, and after getting about 40 badges over the past couple weeks, I don't have much motivation to keep playing. Some of the badges look great, but the Majora's Mask badges are not among them.

Re: Review: Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon (3DS)

3DSWiiUFanatic

@SushiGummy Yeah, it might be. But it sounds like they didn't fix any of the perceived problems with GTI, and just added a ton more content. GTI had the difficulty spikes that he described, but they sound worse in this game. GTI got tedious at times, and repetitive, sometimes the dungeons were just a few floors too long. But it was really polished in terms of the graphics, and was pretty satisfying story-wise. After finishing GTI, I didn't think to myself "I wish I had an even longer version of this."
