It's not a huge success : it's just "good". Or "OK".
Remember that when you buy a 10$ ticket, about 3.33 goes to the theater, 3.33 to the distributor (to cover the marketing, which cost about ... 1/3 of the budget) and 3.33 to the producers.
(Those are not the exact numbers but let's simplify it this way because that's the idea).
So if a movie costs 85M$ like Sonic does, it must make 3 times this number to refund its producing budget.
Sonic must make 255M$ to refund itself.
It has been released worlwide since 2 weeks, and is way far under what made Pokemon outside of the US.
So if you follow the tendencies of the worldwide market, it should make between 300-320 in the end. Which is good for a 85M$ movie. But not great and certainly not "a huge success".
When you know how things work in Hollywood, it's obvious that with Sonic and Jim Carrey on the poster, producers were expecting to make more money.
A sequel will cost more money mostly because of the actors who will ask a far bigger paycheck. So it's not quite sure they will greenlight it. Because if Sonic 2 makes 300-320 again, it might not be enough this time. That's a risk.
@Pichuka97 In the FAQ of the kickstarter page, they say Wonderful 101 will go on other plateforms soon after.
I don't believe Wonderful 101 will hit 60fps on Switch when it gets busy on screen (not a chance !) or even on PS4 Pro at 2160p. I really don't. W101 runs worst than Bayonetta 2 on WiiU and Bayonetta 2 don't hit 60fps on Switch.
I'll wait for the Digital Foundry analyze and if I'm right, I'll wait for the Xbox One X version.
Or maybe I'll buy the PS4 one when the PS5 release.
@iammikegaines Go read the comments under the last tweet of Kobe, published yesterday before the crash. It's crazy how much people can be that unrespectful.
So yeah, I understand the fear of bad comments even here.
@TurboTEF Yeah, I've played a little with my PS2 on it and a RGB cable : Gradius V is absolutely stunning. SF Zero Fighter's Generation too.
I've tried the Megadrive and the Saturn and it's gorgeous. I've yet to try my Dreamcast.
I love my OLED, its HDR especially, but man CRT are something different... and awesome too. And it's so good to play with no lag (I'm very sensible. The 21ms lag on my OLED is a nightmare for me)
Funny, I got my Wii out from a box in the basement... yesterday !
It was the first time I turned it on since... 2012 !
It was like seeing an old friend again.
I wanted to try it on my new 20" PVM with the official Nintendo RGB Cable I bought this week-end. And the result is... gorgeous.
I always had the memory of a machine with bad graphics, atrocious aliasing everywhere, fuzzy edges, but it was because I used it on flat screens, not CRT, with the poor composite cable that was sold with it.
Even later in 2008 when I bought a Plasma and YUV cables, it was not THAT beautiful.
Everyone should rediscover Wii on CRT with RGB : it's gorgeous.
Cherry on the cake : Virtual Console plays 100% like original hardware, which is amazing and impossible on hdmi consoles (even on Wii U)
Great list. But I don't get one thing : even in your review of the game, you never say that ORI AND THE BLIND FOREST is 60fps on Switch ... while it was 30fps on Xbox. The Switch version is BETTER than the original one. Which is unbelievable.
Does someone knows if there's some kind of cross saves between plateforms ? As it's a game that requires A LOT for the player to be online and keeps all its data on warner bros's servers, I guess it's possible no ?
I would love to buy it on the switch to play on the go but I don't want to start again from scratch all what I unlocked on Xbox.
I get the dream he had. But the result was three people akwardly speaking the words their PR's had negociate for months to have an equal importance each other.
It was so unatural, so "fake".
But kuddo to have try this. It comes from a good spirit indeed.
@angelus They finally made a movie with Vulture : Spider-Man Homecoming, the reboot of the reboot. It was meh.
If you like good movies, watch Amazing Spider-Man, especially the second which is a masterpiece. Brillant plot, brillant music, brillant actors and brillant directing. A lot of geeks and nerds and comicbook fans don't like this movie : don't listen to them.
I wonder if this rom has any clue about the story of the movie. Almost no details from the movie leaked, except the casting of John Malkovitch as the Vulture.
@tendonerd Because your eyes are adjusting to the expections you have from a movie or a video game.
Wonderful, gorgeous and glorious video games cinematics would be criticized as being "too cheap" in a movie. People won't connect to it because it's not what you expect in a movie. Like the Diablo 4 cinematic for exemple.
This list lacks today the Hori Split Pad Pro. I can't take my Switch for travel without this pad : it so much better than the joy-cons. It changes everything !
I've spent many many hours on Street Fighter Zero 3 back in the day on Sega Saturn and I loved the new characters (especially Dee Jay), musics and stages. Including the World Tour Mode that I obviously finished.
So Street Fighter 30th Anniversary, which includes only arcade releases, doesn't do justice to the lovely memories I have from my favorite episode. I prefer Street Fighter Alpha Anthology on PS2, which features Alpha 3 Upper with all the extras (except World Tour Mode - nobody's perfect)
So.. well... I'm glad to have it on Switch to play on the go. But I'm disappointed anyway. I hope Capcom will change that in a next release.
@PickledKong64 Hahaha ! It's a cult anime/manga from the 90's. It really did represent the dark side of anime : unaccessible for those who dreamt to see something so forbidden. And an easy target for those who wanted japanese anime banned from europe and usa.
It's soooo cult.
Fun fact : the movie Silent Hill (2006) pays hommage to this anime with its last action sequence.
@tourjeff I have a soft spot also for Real Bout Fatal Fury Special Dominated Mind on PS1, which is a very unknown entry but has cool gameplay, great graphics and musics. It had also two new characters : Alfred and White, who we never saw again in the serie, except as cameos in characters endings or stage backgrounds.
Alfred is the hero of this episode, White is the boss and is designed as Alex in A Clockwork Orange.
And I have a soft spot for Real Bout 2. Raaaah, such a lovely episode.
@sdelfin It was a pleasure and an excitment to discover each year the new KOF. I remember I was a little disapointed by 97 after having spent all those hours on 96. But I still enjoyed it A LOT.
By the way, I played on japanese PS1 at that time. And the soundtracks were the ones from Neo Geo CD. And it was a blast to listen.
@sdelfin I totally agree with you, 97 is a very good entry into the franchise for the newcomers. Even 96 if you want my opinion.

@Xansies I agree with that. I don't think a "Switch Pro" would present a bigger gap as the New 3DS did. And I think the more probable scenario would be that a "Switch 2" would be a PS4 with 4K ability in some way.
BUT. Never forget that the "probable scenario" in the Wii U's time, when it was obviously a failure, was that they go for a big technical leap for the next console, going back in the technical war with Sony and Microsoft. Everybody thought that they had absolutly no choice but that one. And... they went "the Nintendo way", with a whole new concept, the Switch. First reactions were "Oh no, they're doing it again, they never learn and that will be a huge failure again obviously !", which is kinda funny to remember two years later as the Switch is an enormous success

Re: Feature: Super Rare Games On 2 Years Of Switch Releases And The Future Of Physical Media

And that's a really sad reality.
So for me, it's physical as much as I can.

Re: Sonic The Hedgehog 2 And Puyo Puyo 2 Are Both Coming To Switch On The Same Day
@sleepinglion I agree.
Sega Ages on the Switch in portable mode, it's almost like the original experience : I don't feel the lag.
But I do in docked mode.
But the Sega compilation was way more awful when it comes to input lag.
