Re: Did Nintendo Just Spoil Fire Emblem: Three Houses' Killer Twist?

-Green-

Hah, one of their ads on twitter literally already spoiled who one of the big antagonists was.

I can kind of understand this revelation though. A lot of people were hesitant with this installment because of the similar designs and all the new focus on the school, micromanaging, etc and that it wouldn't be what was custom for the series. This definitely helped quell many people's concerns with that.

@BlackenedHalo Perhaps for 3ds games, but even then I personally disagree. The models especially looked terrible imo. Echoes was the least notable in that case, and I’d argue largely due to that game not having cutscenes with the game’s models in them and instead filling them with the beautiful art done by Hidari.

Re: Splatoon 2 v4.8.0 Update Keeps Things Fresh Behind-The-Scenes

@Itzdmo I partially disagree tbh. Splatoon use to have rather large updates to the weapons and gear in the game frequently. Adding in a lot of elements and has shifted constantly in meta since the start. Right now the game is ending in updates so the patches are generally just small fine tunings.

Re: Splatoon 2 V4.8.0 Update Keeps Things Fresh Behind-The-Scenes

Very nice changes. You can definitely tell what they were pushing for and addressing in this patch. Dualies and Inkjet especially have fallen out of usage largely due to the dominance of midline/backline weapons and the Brella class as a while shutting many weapons down. Inkjet also just loses out terribly in long range metas and the other specials shut it down fairly well.

The Splash wall buff is both for generally utility and also a further nerf to Brellas, since it’s a great counter to Tenta especially. Which also unsurprisingly got nerfed because it’s a bit too unstoppable. Overall this patch just screams encouraging more counters to Brellas and buffing struggling classes.

The Splatoon devs are honestly really good at balancing their game over time. Sometimes they may take longer in some cases (which is for the better) but they always address the main issues and balance for both the meta and casual side.

@gcunit hard agree there. Graphically speaking, it’s probably the worst out of all the big Nintendo games coming soon. If it wasn’t for how good and complex the new systems and mechanics seem to be in this game and that Fire Emblem games have basically never been visually impressive (quite ugly most of the time actually) I’d honestly be super disappointed.

Re: Game Freak Is Trying To Create Something "More Exciting Than Pokémon"

@Kalmaro I’d say that’s largely due to poor and/or uninteresting writing. Your friends in Gen 6 for example were basically characterless for the most part, except slightly Shauna and your Rival, and even then they had no real drive. Hau from Gen 7 was better in USUM, since they made him more driven near the end but was a very slow boil. I think a lot of the issue comes from how boring some of them are and how they really lack any competitive drive.

It’s like you said, they’re so passive. Kind of my issue largely with Cheren from Gen 5 in BW. Blue from Gen 1 was just a jerk but tbh I found him to be boring all the same, he’s just a lazy archetype put there to be a rival. Similar to the friends from Gen 6.

Re: Game Freak Is Trying To Create Something "More Exciting Than Pokémon"

@Kalmaro I’d also like for Gamefreak to improve with their writing but I do question a few of your points. Jerk rivals for example are not inherently better than friendly or silly rivals, I’d argue. They can be just as lazy or poorly written, and it’s really the execution that matters most. Like Barry was a friendly yet good rival and Bianca was as well. Silver was a great example of a an antagonistic rival and developed well as the story went along.

@MegaVel91 Yeah, hard agree on the Ghetsis point. He basically ruined the attempt a lot of what I felt was building up with N.

Re: Game Freak Is Trying To Create Something "More Exciting Than Pokémon"

Strange that they’d be prioritizing their new project more over Pokémon (Gen 8).

I’d imagine a large factor into this possible burnout for them is Pokémon’s release schedule. Gamefreak isn’t that big of a company, and while Pokémon is incredibly popular, a yearly release schedule must be awfully demanding. Meaning that they’re constantly focusing on one project after another, after another and another. Probably serves to explain why they don’t change as much in between gens, that and Gamefreak isn’t the best when it comes to actual modernization and optimization.

Re: Nintendo Reveals The Last New Stage Set To Appear In Splatoon 2

-Green-

@BigKing I think it was a problem tbh. As once a team settled down in several of the maps, it was basically impossible to get back in. Splatoon 2 is a more varied game in terms of weapon balance. As you can run a greater amount of weapons and do reasonably well.

You’re definitely right about the ranking system in Spla2n though. It’s really not well done. Splatoon 1’s system was tough as nails, because it really wasn’t forgiving. The newer system is the polar opposite. It basically gives you a lot of freebies and in general means you can cruise If to the higher ranks by getting carried by better players.

Re: Nintendo Reveals The Last New Stage Set To Appear In Splatoon 2

@BigKing Flounder Heights is really cool in terms of visual design. The whole apartment theme is unique. The problem with it and a lot vertical maps like Moray Towers that revolve around distinct higher platforms is that they tend to be fairly unbalanced due to how big a difference a height advantage means in Splatoon. They favor weapons like Chargers, Sloshers and Rollers, and makes them an absolute pain in a more competitive aspect.

Dynamo absolutely dominated Flounder, Chargers were undisputed in Moray. I guess a newer example is Shellendorf which has a unique upper layer on top. Which makes it a nightmare to deal against longer range weapons, especially heavies and such.
