With the start of another week we have the European Nintendo Download Update, letting us know what download goodies are on the way this week; it's a corker, too. The most high-profile arrival is likely to be a freebie on 3DS, though there's also a retail release on the portable that'll be worth a look. There are also some 'Nindie' gems to consider, and a huge number of discounts both Halloween themed and otherwise; let's get to it.
Wii U eShop
Pirate Pop Plus (13AM Games, €4.49 / £4.09 or free if you own the New 3DS version on the same Nintendo Account) - The title takes inspiration from Mitchell Corp's classic bubble-popping title Pang; with Game Boy-style visuals and an excellent chiptune soundtrack, it certainly looks the part. The gameplay involves popping bubbles and blasting enemies, but at certain points the gravity changes, placing you on the sides of the screen or even upside down on the ceiling. We enjoyed this in our hands on impressions and will get working on a review right away.
Fire: Ungh's Quest (Daedalic, €9.99 / £8.99) - From a developer and publisher revered for its puzzle adventure games in Germany, particularly, this 'puzzleventure' promises plenty of personality and quirky environments and puzzles; we'll get cracking on a review.
Super Destronaut 2: Go Duck Yourself (Petite Games, €1.99 / £1.79) - Looking very much like a clone of Taito's seminal Space Invaders, the game involves blasting oncoming enemies, collecting power-ups and grabbing coins to boost your score multiplier. Classic, Time Attack, Hardcore and "Invaders" modes are promised, and there's a multiplayer option as well.
Wii U Virtual Console
Project Zero 2: Wii Edition (Nintendo, €19.99 / £17.99) - A Wii retail title that was at the heart of a North American localisation storm in the last generation, this sees twins Mio and Mayu Amakura exploring a creepy village full of poltergeists, all waiting to be snapped on camera. We gave this a recommendation in our Project Zero 2: Wii Edition review.

3DS Retail Download
Rhythm Paradise Megamix (Nintendo, €29.99 / £24.99) - It's taken a while to get to Europe, but the region will finally have the latest entry in the wacky rhythm-based series. This incorporates some minigames and content from past entries on GBA and DS, along with some all-new levels; it's a 'greatest hits' or sorts, as a result. We gave it a strong recommendation in our Rhythm Paradise Megamix review.
3DS eShop
Ping Pong Trick Shot (Starsign, €1.99 / £1.99) - Slightly odd, as this is a video game version of throwing a ball into a cup. There are different modes (Score Attack, Time Attack and so on) and promises of wacky things like portals that'll shake this up.
New Nintendo 3DS eShop
Pirate Pop Plus (13AM Games, €4.49 / £4.09 or free if you own the Wii U version on the same Nintendo Account) - As per the Wii U iteration, but handily on the go and perhaps fitting the Game Boy aesthetic even better.
New Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console
Super Castlevania IV (Konami, €5.59 / £5.00 until 3rd November, normally €7.99 / £7.19) - Some would argue that this is near the peak of the Castlevania franchise. This Super NES title is held in particularly high esteem for good reason, and is sure to tempt some download fans on the portable; you can see what we thought in our Super Castlevania IV review.
Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts (Capcom, €5.59 / £5.00 until 3rd November, normally €7.99 / £7.19) — A SNES classic arrives on the New 3DS; it's a gruelling action game ready to test your skills and patience in the best possible way. With terrific sprite graphics and excellent music to help you along, we suspect most will make frequent use of save states on the New 3DS. We gave it a big recommendation in our Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts review.
3DS eShop Demo
Pokémon Sun & Pokémon Moon: Special Demo Version (Nintendo, free) - Pitched as a unique adventure to complement the upcoming games, you can get familiar with the Alola Region alongside a special Ash-Greninja that you'll be able to transfer into the full game. We'll have impressions and coverage of the demo with you soon. Available 'late morning' on 18th October.

Maybe Pirate Pop Plus for me; definitely the Sun and Moon demo though. Hopefully that Gunman Clive 2 discount comes to NA!
So many discounts. I have no idea what I'll be buying. And then there's also Pokémon demo and Rhythm Paradise.
Wow. What a great week for wii u.
Luigis mansion 2 on sale. What a joke. Guess how much this is on retail. I hope Nintendo know
I had so much fun formatting and doing all those links
Great week though, I'll happily drop about £30 on Rhythm Paradise and Pirate Pop Plus. Plus a few discounts are tempting.
I HIGHLY recommend Year Walk for the discounted price!
Hope this same sale hits the USA, wow!
Thanks to Pokemon, Rhythm Heaven, the Wii games and all the discounts, that's actually a pretty good week.
Hm all the castlevania games and aeterno blade since i keep waiting and waiting now i will take it even thou i have it on different console but meh it has to be done.
Also lord of shadows is still way to expencive even with physical copies they keep it high strange.
Well the Pokemon Sun/Moon demo goes without saying!
I'll certainly pick up some of the Castlevanias on the Wii U as well!
Also, for those who haven't played Lone Survivor, I can highly recommend it. It's a fantastic little horror game and at that price is an absolute steal!
So glad that we're finally getting Rhythm Paradise. Getting the physical edition (take that NA ) and the Ringside theme.
wow a lot of great stuff for the 3DS either new or on discount! I'm a happy gamer ahah
Hope NA has some cool discounts love me these!
Will try the demo version of Pokemon Sun /Moon.
Well, i try to engage the game first before i chose either of them.
Wow! Fairly big week after months and months of nothing.
At £24.99, Rhythm Paradise Megamix is cheaper than I've seen it online. Plus it's the sort of game that I'm more likely to play if I have it loaded onto my system for a quick play, rather than having to swap carts.
Pirate Pop Plus looks pretty good too. Think I'll get the New 3DS version and download it for free on my Wii U too, but it looks like a game that's more suited to handheld.
Virtual Console-wise I'm torn between getting Super Castlevania IV and Super Ghouls and Ghosts for the New 3DS and paying £10, compared to £7.68 on the Wii U (actually, less because I already own Castlevania on the Wii VC), but I just find that I prefer to play SNES games on my 3DS these days...
And I was actually thinking about The Binding of Isaac last night, but couldn't for the life of me remember what it was called, and trying to search the eshop is a joke! I remember there were lots of bugs with the 3DS version on release, but those got fixed right? Well, the discount is on until the 10 November, so I might wait on this one...
Also, Pokemon Sun/Moon demo too!
Devil Survivor 2! Sweet, getting that....
Wait, Europe gets an Atlus discount that isn't SMT IV or Conception. Witchcraft!
If you're in Halloween mood (like i am), get Project Zero: Maiden of Black Water or Project Zero 2: Wii Edition! Love that series!
WHOA, now this is what I'd call a Microsoft-esque deal.
This time I'm really proud of these discounts here Ninty, I'll do my best to encourage your "discount-y" mood by purchasing some of these gems.
Project Zero 2 and Pokemon demo for me this week and I'll have a look at the discounts on both systems.
Best week ever. I knew to wait for Luigi Manson 2! Never wanted to play PAC man but at that price will get them both!!!!!
Woot, a discount for DeSu2! I was considering finally getting the 3DS version in retail instead of replaying the DS original, but with a discount for e-shop...
Some nice deals this week on 3ds. And some ridiculous ones too, as usual.
I'll pick up Castlevania 1-3 on WiiU, maybe even also on 3DS.....
Have 4 on WiiU but definitely getting it on 3DS.
Almost purchased the binding of Isaac on my 3ds last night. I am so happy i put it off 😂
This actually makes up for the disappointing week of nothing last week on the WiiU eShop.
Waiting for my Megamix cart from Amazon (21,32€, I'm looking at you Nintendo eShop), just this.
Looking forward to that sweet data mining from the Pokémon demo!
@uhhhhhhhh I would highly agree with you, it was a great experience.
And finallu project zero for WiiU will become mine! So sad there has never been a physical release for that (except for the few special Edition)
Wow, it's looking pretty good this week!
Btw, it's called "Luigi's Mansion 2" in Europe.
Not keen on Halloween, but at least there are lots of discounts.
It's a bit worrying. I got luigis mansion 2 in 2013 year of luigi for 30 pounds and now it's on sale at 2016 for similar.
Just wondered isn't this a select title.
@RainbowGazelle Yeah but I prefer Dark Moon, so I'm being a rebel.
That's a very decent week. I'll probably only grab the Pokemon demo. I might get Rhythm Paradise eventually, but I need to work on my backlog first.
@ThomasBW84 As do I, but isn't it technically misinformation?
@RainbowGazelle Good gracious, now you're getting carried away. I added a 2, is everyone happy now?
Yes! Good stuff! I've been waiting for Castlevania IV to get a discount for a long time... it feels good to finally have a reason to get that game! The other games I'm gonna buy are Gunman Clive HD Collection, Super Ghouls n' Ghosts (3DS), the Sun & Moon demo, Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon (maybe), Castlevania, Castlevania 3, and Gargoyle's Quest.
Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon (Nintendo, €31.49 / £27.99 until 3rd November, normally €44.99 / £39.99)
What a joke
@ThomasBW84 No, I'm never happy.
I'ts OK, i didn't want to have any money left anyway.
yeah the deals are kidna slim, but i will say this. i was complaining about the nintendo rewards thang, but at the start of this month, i got a greeting and a special offer from nintendo since it's my birthday month. not a single peep of an offer, discount, even a greeting, or anything else from either playstation or xbox, even after my actual birthday passed a couple of days ago.
@ThomasBW84 good work but i think nothing short of a blood sacrifice will appease at this point. good luck!
Very good NoE. Just PLEASE keep this up come the Xmas period. Last year's Xmas sale was just plain horrible. Just use an Xmas Sale to REALLY draw blood out of that Wii U rock before we all jump onboard the SS NX next year.
Quite a lot of stuff. Maybe i will buy one of those vanias. Circle or harmony or both.
So much stuff! I won't be getting SunMoon demo since it takes up so much space. Just going to wait for the game to come out.
Now THIS is a great week, even though I already own many of the games on sale. I'll be getting the following at least:
*Year Walk
*Castlevania: Circle of the Moon
*Gunman Clive HD Collection
*Pokemon Sun & Moon Demo
I'll also consider Rhythm Paradise and Majora's Mask 3D.
Extreme Exorcism!!! Because sitting round the TV with your mates to some multiplayer mayhem is exactly what Halloween is really about.
Also, will be dusting off my 3ds for the high profile demo, as it would be rude not to, and will finally get round to downloading the second instalment of Gunman Clive.
Based on the positive comments about it, I will also be spending the change from my tenner on Year Walk. Thanks guys!
I hope the hallowe'en discounts will apply to NA as well. There is a couple that are on my wish list but more then I want to spend right now.
That Fatal Frame discount better come to NA this week. If so, I'm jumping all over that.
Gonna download the Sun & Moon demo on November 18th because I know Nov 18 through 23 will be sour days for me. I still don't get how they manage to have a worldwide release date for XY but not for Sun & Moon!
Come on NoA, now is the time to bring Project Zero 2 over to the Wii U. Stop sucking at everything, thanks.
Rhythm Paradise definitely, but I will be constantly refreshing the eShop waiting for the Sun & Moon Special Demo tomorrow!
I can imagine the response but I honestly am curious... has anyone played those PAC-MAN games on 3DS?? For that price I thought they might be worth a punt.
@chansey Can't you get Luigi's Mansion 2 £15 boxed these days as part of the 3DS selects range?
Physical copy of RP:Megamix for absolute sure & if I can get my wifi to work on the 3ds, the Sun/Moon demo too.
Going to pick up Year Walk. It is said to be the definitive edition on the Wii U.
@polarbear That's on my list too
@davidevoid in America; but not in England as a Select.
I assume it's safe to say the Pokemon demo will come to NA on Thursday. I hope the Castlevania Lords of Shadows discount follows as well.
Please bring Fatal Frame 2 Wii Edition to North America, I want it so much!!! I don't even care if there is a discount on that game, I would pay full price! I'm okay with no "american english" translations, give it to me in it's raw and natural english!
..what?..no votes for ...
..the Halloween party game on the go, Ping Pong Trick Shot?..lol..
Such weird prices now and then...
31.49 for Luigi's Mansion 2 and MM 3D.
Would get RE4 if I could play it solely on the gamepad but last I heard you had to use a Wiimote - that still the case?
Obviously I'm gonna get the Pokemon demo, but man do I hope that sale comes over stateside. Bayonetta, Castlevania VC, Pandora's Tower...I'm gonna be buying big.
Wow, great week for once!! Nothing for me at the moment as I'm still clearing my back log, or should I say- playing more xenoblade x!!
Fatal frame is tempting though😉.....
Anyone says its NOT a good week and nothing for them NEEDS shooting.
Dude. I REALLY hope Ninty considers letting Fatal Frame 2 on the US Wii "Virtual Console". I get that they wouldn't release it here physically because it would be a bad investment, but if they're going to go ahead and publish it digitally for Europe, there's no reason not to do the same elsewhere, especially since it's translated. We can cope with UK spellings in the text; we got Layton vs. Wright in that format, after all.
Then again, the EU still has Devil World and we don't. Bleh.
I might get Project Zero cos the physical version is near impossible to find.
I'm definitely downloading the Sun and Moon demo, but I just hope eShop doesn't go down due to the many people who will also be downloading it. (thinking back to how PokeBank went) I guess I'll just have to keep watch for when it's up and see what happens from there.
Nice to see some VC discounts! Might get Majoras Mask, but I'm left wondering what will happen with NX and the VC, whether we'll get a discount like Wii to WiiU, or have to buy all over again.
It's a bad time to be a WiiU owner.
Rhythm Megamix or some VC discounted games... decisions! Too bad I already have ALL of those Castlevania games and got them at full price too XD. I don't have Super Ghouls n' Ghosts yet though. I don't get how all ghosts n' goblins related games get a discount EXCEPT for Demon's Crest though. I need that too, but that's one that doesn't get a discount :/.
@Shinnos
Binding of Isaac for the NEW 3DS is fixed for the most part. There was a patch. The game can still freeze, but only if certain criteria are met. I haven't had the game freeze up on me for quite some time now and still play it regularly. You should be fine.
Has anyone ever played the zombie survival game "How to Survive?" Is it any good?
I hope these discounts arrive for North America as well. I'm interested in Year Walk and also enjoying reading people's other recommendations. I'm steering clear of Project Zero, that ultra creepy ghost stuff will haunt your dreams for weeks afterwards.
@Hey-Cha-La "I'm steering clear of Project Zero, that ultra creepy ghost stuff will haunt your dreams for weeks afterwards."
C'mon, admit it, you're peeved there's no sexy lingerie. (I know I am)
@LemonSlice
LOL, speaking of 'ultra creepy...' do not bring up that controversy again!
It would be really nice to get Majora's Mask and beat the darn thing once and for all.
Considering NA never even got the Wii version of Fatal Frame 2, NoA should put the most recent release on sale.
Project Zero [Wii U]
Rhythm Paradise [3DS]
Year Walk [Wii U]
Nihilumbra [Wii U]
Shadow Puppeteer [Wii U]
