Nintendo has announced in its latest Nintendo 3DS Direct that in honour of the franchise's 30th anniversary, a "special series" of classic Legend of Zelda amiibo figures are set to hit the shelves on December 2nd; that date is for both North America and Europe. The figures will work as standard Link and Zelda amiibo respectively, but are also to have "special functionality" within 2017's The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but what that is exactly we can only speculate.

The four amiibo figures showcased are:

  • 8-Bit Link (The Legend of Zelda)
  • Link (Ocarina of Time)
  • Toon Link (The Wind Waker)
  • Toon Zelda (The Wind Waker)

It's certainly a welcomed announcement, as the idea of an amiibo lineup surrounding the Zelda universe has been talked about since the figures' arrival in late 2014. Sure, we've got our Super Smash Bros. and Twilight Princess HD Zelda amiibo representatives, as well as more upcoming NFC figures from the aforementioned Breath of the Wild entry, but fans of the franchise (or at least this writer) have been longing for a set of figures focused around the series as a whole for quite some time now.

The 8-Bit Link figure is certainly a great counterpart to either of the two 8-Bit Mario amiibo, although this writer personally adores the Ocarina of Time one. Will you be getting your Golden Gauntlets on any of these bad boys? Sound-off below!
